I bought some shrimp here, and before even starting acclimating, 3 had already died in the bag. Stupidly, I still acclimated them and added them to my aquarium. Within a week all my fish were dead from ich. Wouldn't recommend any aquatic life from this place. Or if you really want to, please at least quarantine and dose medicines. read more

Staff is amazing and helpful. The fish department is amazing!!!! Pet adoptions (mainly dogs) are on Saturday from 11 to 2 normally from KC pet projects and other shelters. No cats here!!! You can't hold the Guinea pigs, hamsters and rats unless you're interested in perching them. Understandable because it's not a petting zoo and the staff is too busy, helping customers, and stocking to watch you hold animals. Plus, there's a lot of liability on their end I bet. I ended up getting a couple beautiful, female Betta fish for my sorority and a ton of stuff for my tank. Super happy with my experience. read more

My son has a Miniature Schnauzer, who needs periodic grooming. We have used Petco several times, at two different locations. At the last visit, we were told that the hairs in the dog's ears must be plucked, and to do so, the dog had to be muzzled. We were a bit surprised by this, as the dog had never shown any aggressive behavior during any grooming visit before. We scheduled another grooming appointment, arrived early and purchased a muzzle for the groomer to use. During check-in, the groomer told us that they did not muzzle dogs, so he didn't need the just-purchased item. My son took the muzzle back to the same register (with the same employee) where he had purchased it less than 5 minutes before and was told that he could not return the item without a receipt. There is a great deal of misinformation at this location. First, don't tell us you need us to provide a muzzle for a particular procedure, then later tell us that you don't muzzle animals. Second, don't sell us an item, without providing a receipt, then 5 minutes later, refuse to accept the return of the item without a receipt. Because of this event, we are actively searching for another groomer for our dog, with hopes of never having to return to Petco again! read more

I am leaving this review for the dog trainer Michelle, she is absolutely phenomenal!! She worked with me and my sweet girl Ember through the adult behavior class and now through the AKC class. She has the best attitude and always is so excited to us and the progress ember makes. She handles every situation to perfect even when there are unruly dogs in the store. I cannot speak more highly of her she deserves so much credit and praise. I encourage everyone to go through classes with their pups here. read more

The store was decent. Staff was meh as any Petco I have been to over the years. But their reptile (specifically snake) care is horrendous. They are either not educated/trained for proper care or just literally don't give a shit and don't care they are selling sick pets on deaths door. Ball pythons are the easiest snake in the world to care for. The temps and humidity were off which is why these snakes had TERRIBLE stuck shed. This is not good for the snake. The skin should never flake off but come off in ONE piece. The worst of it was a severely emaciated snake. Obviously they Are not able to get the snake to eat. They should not have it on the floor and absolutely not for sale. read more

I bought a beta that died a few days later. I called the number for customer service as stated on their site and was told that I just needed to bring a water sample and my receipt to the store for a refund or exchange. I asked if they needed the fish and he said no just the water sample. So we did just that the next day and were denied any exchange or refund. I called customer service back and of course they denied that I was told that am now out $22 for a beta. Customer service is junk. I won't be back. read more

The atmosphere is wonderful. They have a small bar area where you can wait and have a drink which is nice. The salsa is phenomenal and while the plates are small, they are very very good and tasty. The beer is cold and the drinks are good. The only negative thing which I don't think it's a big deal, is While the selection choices were limited, they were very good. Very disappointed with Petco for not standing behind their product for more than 30 days. I purchased on Jan 18th and it broke March 7th. I took it into the store and was rudely told I would have to call customer service where I was offered only a partial refund. Due to their "strict policy" they wouldn't even replace the product. It was buckled on my dog when the clasp just broke off while still clipped in the other side. I would recommend the crash tested Kurgo harness it's is much easier to use and they stand behind their products for life against defects. read more

Their store is a little cramped when there is customers shopping and walking around with their animals which are usually dogs. I think their prices are a little high on some of their items when you compare them to other stores. I went in to buy a couple of mice or hamsters for my son along with another couple hundred bucks in purchases minimum. I waited 30 minutes while employees just looked at me and avoided customers like the plague. Doesn't help out the customers that the employee uniforms are a T-shirt and jeans that don't prominently display their logo either. It's like they hide from you in there and try to make you think they're not employees so they're not bothered with. Finally, I convinced my sons father that he'd have to go to the front to have someone paged if we wanted help. Which I totally understood and was fine with. The issue is that after being paged to help us, we watched three employees make eye contact and keep walking. Not helping anyone else or doing something that would have prevented them from having SOME sort of contact with us. So finally after someone was paged to the front to help with checking out, we decided to leave since it was obvious that no one worked there that wanted to sell anything to us. I am really disappointed. Izzy has an odor. Not sure what it is. She smelled the same as when I left her. I couldn't tell if she even had a bath. When we lived in SW KS I took her to Petco all the time. She smelled wonderful for a week before it faded away. A lot of what is charged extra here was included in the bath such as the scent spray, nails, ears, teeth were all included for the same price. read more

We brought in our 2 dogs for grooming. Candise J stated that one of the tails was matted and she might have to shave it. We told her not to at that point. We called back to reiterate no matter what DO NOT SHAVE HIS TAIL. We picked up our fogs and was horrified. They shaved one dog down to skin on his body (no matting). I tried a home remedy for getting rid of fleas and it was so bad that there was no helping it. We called an emergency vet clinic and they said they couldn't do anything for me and to call Petco. We called and the manager was very informative!!! We get there with 30 minutes to spare and talked to the manager, Eva, and she was so helpful!! Told us where to start, what to get, and how to use everything. We also told her we were on a budget and She told us that they price match off of their website and we saved about half of what we were going to spend! Thank you again Eva! I appreciate that this store works with area shelters and rescues in setting up frequent adoption events...it's actually in front of this store that we first met our beloved pooch. So I do harbor some sentimental good will toward the establishment on the basis of that alone. This is a serviceable pet supply store. It doesn't always come through, but it's very nearby, so convenience sometimes wins out over quality of service. We are there exclusively for dog goods, and they've really come through for us in terms of various durable goods-type equipment (if only they would stock replacement pans, preferably metal ones, for their house-brand kennels, I'd gladly throw more stars their way, but this seems to be something that commonly has to be ordered). In terms of toys and cleaning items, it's hit and miss if you can get a better deal here or at other suppliers...they undercut Wal-Mart and Target, for instance, in terms of poo bags, but you can get cheaper Nylabone products at Target. Their house brand treats are fairly priced and available in large quantities, and they often have nice stuff in sale bins. Their grooming is where I take off some stars, because it's very hit and miss. My pooch is a shorthaired beagle mix who doesn't require anything by way of coat grooming, but he's somewhat panicky about nail trimming, and we've found it to be less stressful to call in the pros. We've had perfectly fine experiences with groomers there who are obviously calm and patient, and we've had horrible experiences with ones who were rather panicky, cut into the quick, and then were surprised and upset when they were on the receiving end of my pup's very own, very smelly, yet completely harmless reaction to being manhandled. If you're a dog groomer, odds are you've been paid to to do, uh, gland expression before...this shouldn't freak you out when it naturally occurs...especially if you're gonna be clipper-happy and try to speed through a delicate process because it's close to the end of your shift. It can also be difficult to get customer assistance out on the main floor, because they don't always have a very full shift working, or so it would seem. I also have noticed that one of their associates in particular likes to editorialize on the product you are interested in, and not in a good way, in a personal criticism-type, oversharing about her particular brand of ethics, way. But as I've never complained about her, I'm hesitant to ascribe any fault here to the store...I just think she oversteps her bounds. read more

They had a pet rescue group setting up and I completely support rescue groups however , they were taking up so much room at the front of the store that it was hard to walk around it without being in their way. Mind you I was looking at toys.. And their set up was literally right up against the toy section.Then when I wanted to look at a nail dremel I had to searching for someone to get it out of the glass for me.. DO NOT BUY FISH FROM THIS STORE! 16 days ago, I bought 2 Bala Sharks from the Lee's Summit Chipman location. Today I discovered them BOTH dead! I recently tested my water 2 days ago, and the other fish (that i purchased from another store) that are in the same 55" aquarium are doing just great! I chose these two Bala's because initially they looked very healthy and vibrant at the store (more so than the other locations). They did great for the first several days. But i noticed in the past couple of days they were not as active. I made sure the water was good and everything was spot on. Today when I noticed they had died, I called the store to speak with the manager. I simply wanted to know what the warranty policy was (if any) on the fish. I certainly didn't want to get MORE fish from this place but just wanted to know my options. He was extremely defensive and arrogant in his response. The conversation quickly became a minor "pissing match" to the point i had to abruptly end the conversation by hanging up in anger. IDK....just seems like a no brainer that the only 2 fish I purchased from your store are the only 2 that died. The others that I purchased from the other store shows no sign of slowing down. I understand that you can't guarantee these fish after leaving the store, but when I call the store to discuss, have some compassion and understanding. read more

I shop there religiously, dealt with someone named pracilla. What a unprofessional associate. She had no clue about anything. Need to look at who they hire. I did get help from a young guy who was super and knowledgeable about dog food. Spoke to my kids and made me feel better about going there again. I wish I could remember his name. I recently took my dog to get groomed here for the first time. When I got home, I noticed his hair was cut super uneven. He has a mark on his chest where they nicked him as if they slipped and cut it too short. His face is an absolute mess. It just looks awful. I have had him groomed multiple times before by a lady back home and he never moves so I know it wasn't like he wasn't sitting still. I will definitely never be going back there!!
