The store is clean and it seems to be well staffed- unfortunately the staff isn't very helpful. There were no other customers in the store and we had some questions about where to find items. The Groomers at this location are VERY skilled and knowledgeable! We have been taking our dog here for just over a year and we are always pleased with the aesthetic of our "little guy's" haircut! Moreover, the grooming staff is friendly, kind and professional. We are also impressed with the ease of scheduling appointments and the relatively quick turnaround time of approximately 90 minutes to 3 hours...not an all-day affair like we have experienced at other grooming salons. We are very pleased with PETCO's grooming service! Morgan recently took over as our dog's new groomer and she is extremely skilled and talented! To top that off, she has a wonderful disposition and great customer service skills! We would have to say that she gave him one of the best cuts that he has ever had! Maria at the Leesburg VA location is an excellent groomer. I hope this doesn't get her so busy, that I am not able to book her, but she deserves to get credit for being the quality job she does. Agree with Tharen's review...place is a bit off...limited staff, not bright and accepting, and crammed and crowded aisles. Only good thing is they have treats by the lb. that you can put in packages themed for the holidays (Halloween, Xmas, etc), which are great for pet gifts. read more

Maria is very fond of Gizmo and is very gental. She suggested a special shampoo for shedding. No fond of it, seems drying to Gizmo's skin. Marie does very well following my specifications for Gizmo's grooming. Except the tail was trimmed a little but think it will be ok and grow out more even. All is good and everyone loves her. read more

Would give 0 stars if possible I used to love to shop at this location on a regular basis, but recently it seems that customer service and animal well being have gone by the wayside. Visited this location and had a hard time finding anyone to assist me with questions and locating my items. Had to hunt down a cashier so I could purchase my items, and when I asked the cashier specific questions about my dog food, I was dumbfounded when I couldn't seem to get an answer. Stated that he was not sure and offered to get someone to answer my questions. Waited over 10 minutes for him to get his manager, but they never came. Not sure if he/she was too busy or just didn't care. Left the store frustrated and needless to say I will be taking my business elsewhere. read more

We have never had an issue taking our Border collie/Pyrenees mid age dog to a groomer prior to today. This location has managed to inconvenience us twice already, having to reschedule our appointment. When we finally brought our dog into the groomer, the groomer was obviously hesitant to perform the service claiming that our dog was stressful, irritated, and slobbering when none of those issues were there. She continued to go over how she will have to call us if she notices any stress. After the dog compliantly and obediently walked away into the back with a wagging tail, we received a call 5 minutes later saying that the dog was anxious, chewing, barking, and destroying their kennel, hence she would not be groomed. This dog is the most mellow and resides with two other cats peacefully. You would think any animal in a kennel would exhibit signs of anxiety at first prior to acclimating. read more

I take my dog to the groomers at this Petco. I've tried Petsmart and a high end boutique groomer, but I was dissatisfied with both their prices, grooming results, and service. The groomers at this Petco are amazing. They're always pleasant, always happy to see your pet, and more importantly, they do a great job at a price even with or lower than competitors. Actually, that's not the most important thing. The most important is the fact that my dog loves going there. She knows where she is the minute we park and she practically drags me in to the groomers. That's how great they are with her. She loves it there. I'm sure if she could, she'd be writing this review herself. While there, I've also shopped the store, and I'd have to say that the staff has always checked to see if I need anything. They've always been polite and helpful. You leave the place feeling good. I won't take my dog anywhere else for grooming. read more

Had an appointment to get a bath for my dog. Went to drop him off and once we were there the staff told me no groomer had showed up and so we were turned away. I understand things happen and we would have gladly rescheduled the appointment. They had time to notify us but no one bothered to call us and tell us this was the case. We won't be back. read more

The Pet groomers at Petco are really great. I have had Rosa groom my 2 Golden Retrievers each time. When my one dog, Hoover, was there last, Rosa noticed that her foot was bleeding and her little toe nail was missing. To this day, we don't know where this happened, before or after my dog arrived for grooming. The fact is, I was so impressed that Rosa called me right away and said that they were having the manager drive Hoover to the vet, which is about 20 minutes away and have the dog checked out by a vet at Petco's expense. They were with my dog every step of the way and showed great concern. They paid for all medication (and follow up visit the next day with the vet). When I brought my dog home Rosa told me to pick up the food I needed for hoover for the next few days. The manager & Rosa called me at home to follow up both that evening and the next day. I believe it was the regional manager in Springfield who also called me to check up on Hoover's well being. He even said that her next grooming would be on the house! Everyone was very caring and concerned. I would have no hesitancies of returning for additional grooming. They showed great concern for the safety of my pet -- and they will do the same for you. I went here this past Saturday. Even though it is in walking distance to my house I do not go here anymore. The reason I don't go to Petco anymore is because I have a young dog and when she was a puppy I noticed that when in Petco she only walked around smelling all the pee on the floor and I didn't want to encourage this bad behavior. When in nice small pet shops we don't have this issue at all and she gets to enjoy the actual store. On Saturday there was dried pee on the floor in the main walkway. My dog usually never pees inside anywhere we go and we go to a lot of shops. She smelled the dried pee and instantly pee'd on the floor. I told the girl employee that my dog never pees in the shop and I showed her the dried pee and told her she smelled it and then pee'd. The girl just laughed, said it happens all the time and never bothered to clean the dried pee on the floor. Well obviously it happens all the time as there is pee all over the store. So we will continue to stay away from this dirty place. read more

the store is generally clean, staff is friendly, but the animal care and knowledge of animal care is lacking. i've adopted a syrian hamster from here and had staff members ask me why i wasn't getting two. for those of you who don't know, housing two syrians together is huge no-no, and should never be done. this is basic knowledge that someone who works with these animals should have, yet they seemed extremely misinformed. i have also seen an employee tell a little boy that if he got a female crested gecko, then it might clone itself. this information is incorrect and i'm not sure where the employee got it from, since parthenogenesis only occurs in certain reptile species, and cresties aren't one of them. i've also seen quite a few sick/injured animals (mainly male mice), and even reptile enclosures that have been left open. overall, i've been pretty disappointed in their animal husbandry. it's a great place to buy animal supplies, but don't come here looking for accurate care information. read more

I cannot agree about the staff. The people we talked to were very helpful. My daughter wants some small rodent (hamster/gerbil/guinea pig), and not only were the staff members very nice to her, they suggested against buying several of the more aggressive species (which were also more expensive) and for buying a teddy bear hamster. But they checked and the ones they had in stock were aggressive, so they suggested coming back after they got a new shipment (today). Perhaps they've improved since the last review this past summer, but my experience of talking to 3 people there is very positive. read more

Do not buy from there! Got a Guinea pig there, it turned out to be sick, brought it back....they are trying to get it back healthy....the piggy was there for 6 days now, we go allot and visit. the kids are dramatized, and upset. Finally spoke there with store manager miss J. How come they do not check those piggies better before they sell them, pretty much they arrive on the triuck and few hours later they are on the store shelf, most piggies from that patch came back sick to the store..the manager explained it as common problem. well I asked for that entire inconvenience, what is the store going to do for me? A joke, the manager said she can give me a $5 gift card to the store? Are you serious? I spent more money on gas to drive to the store, not counting cage, food, toys, close to $150 plus thegunea pig, not even what I have to go thru with my kids that are devastated sitting home looking at the empty cage!!! Just because Petco won't evaluate the animals better when they sell them? So Petco believes $5 gift card will make it all good...... the worst customer service ever!!! read more

Honestly, I have had great experiences everywhere I have gone but last week I went to this Petco, which is my usual Petco (even though I drive from Ashburn). They are always incredibly nice there but last week I had an employee by the name of Robert spend over an hour letting my kids hold and touch just about every reptile in the store....and me too. My youngest came in excited to look at Geckos knowing she couldnt have one yet, but she had been researching. He knew we were only looking, but he not only let us see everything but also taught us a lot about different creatures. This was a weeknight evening and the store was not crowded but my daughters really appreciated this time. Meanwhile other staff members stopped by and petted our dog. It was actually a very great experience and we intend to return this weekend for the geckos...I wouldnt go anywhere else because of the personal touch this store has given us....and not just this time. We have gotten a lot of personal help in setting up our fish tank EVEN in busy hours when we had real problems. And the grooming dept knows our dog and she isnt even afraid to go there. I think she likes her grooming sessions a little. I have not had a negative experience at any Petco or at any Pet store at all, but this store is the only one Ive bothered to rate. My son bought some fish here for his new fish tank. They sold him "neons". There were many dead neons in the tank but we were assured they just arrived and some die during transport. Well, the next day one of his five new neons died. another died the next day and another the next. I stopped in on my way home from work to get replacements or a refund (I had my receipt) but was told that they needed a water sample first. All his other fish are alive so it's not the water. Most of the neons in Petco's neon tank are dead and/or gone. It's obvious that asking for a water sample is just their way of not honoring replacement/refund policies without giving the customer a hassle. My son will come back with the stupid water sample, get the refund or replacement and then be done for good with this not-customer-friendly establishment. We have a dog, a cat, fish and some small pets too....Petco will never get another dime of our business because they hassle 13 year old kids by selling them sick fish and then making it hard to replace. read more
