We went to Petco today to get some neon Tetris for my daughter's tank. The sales associate did not seem to be very helpful or happy to be there. There were only three neon tetras so we asked for all three. The associate chased the three around with the fish net overturning plants in pursuit. To my daughter's horror, One died so we were left with two. We took the two home and within three hours one of them died. We tested the water on the tank using the test strips and it tested safe. They do have a policy to return your fish if it dies within 30 days. However, I doubt I'll return. RIP Finn read more

Update based on company response: I DID contact the store. I was offered a refund and told "there's nothing you can do" about my dogs being poisoned from food on your shelves. // Came here in a bind to buy my dogs' fresh dog food ahead of a winter storm and paid 2x the price compared to nearby retailers. My rating isn't for the cost, however, it's the fact that the fresh dog food I purchased expired two weeks prior. I routinely checked the expiration dates when buying their food from nearby Costco and got comfortable because the date was always several months out. Not paying close attention to the dates is on me, but their lack of remorse or concern for my INCREDIBLY ill dogs and selling batches of expired fresh dog food is on them. I couldn't get my dogs to the vet for days after they first consumed the expired food because of the snow. Avoid this place at all costs. It's disgusting inside. read more

If I had to describe this store in one word, it would be FILTHY. I almost feel icky that I walked in there with open-toed sandals. Am I going to get diseased? Probably. Either way, the floor hasn't even caught a WHIFF of a mop in what seems like years. The carpet by the door is COVERED in dog hair and dirt. Might as well be a shag carpet with how much hair is on it. What's worse is that the animals are kept in filthy conditions as well. It's clear that this store gives zero damns about the living breathing creatures it's peddling. The rodents? Have dirty bedding. The ferret? Is alone. The fish? Dirty tanks. The birds? Dirty cages. I won't even open my mouth about the poor bettas. Jesus on a bicycle, at least change their water sometimes, would ya?? On top of all this, there was a MOUNTAIN of boxes just... piled in the middle of the aquarium aisle this evening. So much for wanting to browse tanks; the impenetrable wall of cardboard and misery says 'no'. This is most likely the worst Petco I have ever had the displeasure of entering. read more

Had a family visitor who needed a dog sweater on short notice and Petco came through for us! The staff were super friendly and accommodating. Everyone we encountered clearly loves pets and understands how to deal with a variety of pet owners. They had a great selection of doggie sweaters and a good variety of affordable dog beds. A refreshing change from on-line shopping. We bought both a dog bed and a dog sweater to accommodate the need of our holiday visitor! read more

I use to spend a lot of money at Petco, but I will never give them another dime. Their return policy is HORRIBLE. You have to return everything, including canned dog food within 30 days. I have a 12 1/2 year old dog who stopped eating and I tried to return her food from March, so around 90 days. It's canned food with a ton of shelf life left. I was told, it's past 30 days so you are just out the $200. Zero empathy. I contacted Chewy to return and they said no problem we hope your dog is ok, etc. and made my life so easy. I had ordered the replacement food through Petco, but will never do that again. All my business will go to Chewy going forward. Petco is not an understanding company, especially with supply chain issues some food needs to be bought in larger quantities when dogs are sick and picky. read more

No thanks. Unfortunately this store is very dirty and I feel so bad for the poor birds in the back. They are practically hidden from all of the inventory around them and look very stressed. Also don't bother getting a gold fish if you have anything less than a 20 gallon tank...even though they have hundreds in one about the same size. They have a right to refuse sale of 30 cent feeder fish so you're better off going to PetSmart...much cleaner and better customer service. Probably the least helpful pet store you'll visit. I bought a fish tank and a goldfish for my daughter for her birthday here. It's been two years, the fish died, our house sitter over fed it, I go to buy another one. I'm asked 4-5 questions about what I'm doing with the fish by the teenager cleaning the cages, he then proceeds to tell me I cannot buy a goldfish. "What? Well the size of your tank is not big enough. But I bought it here, you sold it to me with a goldfish, same time. I'm sorry we can't sell you a goldfish. Where is the manager? She's on vacation." The place is a dump, dead fish floating in 30% of the tanks already. Proceed to PETSMART 3 mins away and buy said goldfish, no interrogation. Can I have the last 15 minutes of my life back PETCO? I called today to make an appointment for my dog to get groomed, and they told me to come in as long as I had his rabies vaccinations with documentation. Which I thought was kind of odd because every other groomer there was a wait list. So when I walked into the store, the first thing I noticed was a big puddle of urine and three employees standing there, talking and doing nothing about it. I went to the groomers area and it was absolutely filthy. My normal veterinarian always recommended that I give my dog a medication to help him calm down when he gets his nails groomed so it could be a pleasurable experience. I told the groomer that he was on that medicine and she said that she would not trim his nails if he was on any kind of medicine besides the grooming room being 90°, which is too hot for any dog or human I could not get out of there, fast enough. Avoid this place at all cost!!! I cannot imagine buying any toys here for my dogs or food or treats. read more

I have been to different Petco stores but this one has the WORST customer service. Since I was shopping at the outlet nearby, I decided to return something here that was bought at a different store. I gave them my physical receipt for the return. However, the guy interrogated me (when and where I bought) and gave me such a rude attitude since they couldn't find my receipt in the system. I pulled up the transactions in the my bank statement and offered to show him if he wanted to. He was unbelievably rude. We had scheduled for Friday. I had forgotten to bring the rabies records - this was my fault. One of the groomers had told me to get them and she will be able to fit my puppies in for grooming. I went to the car for 30min, got the records via email. By the time I came back, another groomer was there. This groomer had told they could not fit us in. 30min. Well, Petco lost a customer. I was planning to bring my puppies every month for grooming. Petco, your loss! read more

HORRIBLE STORE! Not only do they have dead fish in their tanks and ignore it once being told, but the staff is down right rude. I always take my dog here for grooming, food and toys, but after having a horrendous experience of being ignored, called a liar and dismissed I am done. The male manger could honestly care less and the ladies in grooming just do not seem to care. We had an appointment at 9am while the store was closed knocked on the window called multiple times and after 10 mins left because we have other things to do. Call back at 10am to be called liars. Rude customer service and should probably be more attentive and review call logs and cameras before accusing customers. Manager could care less and blatantly blew it all off when told. September of 2021 my family and I went into Petco to look at fish. After about an hour of talking we walked out with about $200 worth of equipment and a new beta fish. Over the next few months we researched and educated ourselves more. In December we decided that we wanted to expand our fish family and decided to purchase a new tank and three new fish. We went back and spoke with one of the managers there, Brian. While he did answer questions and help us find a tank he became noticeably irritated when we resisted his advice to wait a week to purchase our fish. While I understand that each tank is it's own ecosystem the reality is the beta fishes are swimming around in small cups, with no filters, no heaters and likely no water treatment. Based on our experience we felt confident we could bring the fish home, setup the tank and keep the fish alive and well. Upon informing Brian that we would not wait the week to setup our tank he rudely told us that he wouldn't be able to honor their 30 day refund policy if the fish died. We said okay, purchased another $250 in accessories & fish. Over the next few weeks we stopped in to buy things & seek advice. Unfortunately the advice seemed to differ based on who we spoke with. One of the associates informed us that neon tetras were okay to pair with male betas, and suggested that we buy 5 because they are schooling fish. A few days after purchasing our 5 tetras and introducing them into the male betas tank we noticed that one of the tetras was dead and that two were missing. Fearing the obvious we removed them from the tank only to find that our male beta appeared injured and was sick. We contacted Petco and they said that sometimes this happens. Fortunately we were able to nurse our male beta back to health. A couple of weeks ago we awoke to find one of our mollys dead. We sadly removed him from the tank and then a few days later we lost another Molly. This began a whole new round of questions as we had not experienced any losses in our short time of being fish owners. We took a water sample up to Petco where Brian tested it for us. After testing it Brian indicated that the water had nitrite and high alkalinity - but what came next was just rude. After looking at the water Brian looked at us and gleefully told us that "we won't sell you any fish because you have a lot of work to do to get your tank in order". It was almost as if he was still upset that we had taken the fish the month earlier - even though their death had nothing to do with not letting our tank run for a week. Over the next few days we purchased different items to treat the tank and continued bringing samples to test. Brian tested it again and told us that it still wasn't good and once again proclaimed that they wouldn't sell us any fish. Finally I called last week and spoke with Liz the GM of the store. I explained what was going on and that I was still seeing high nitrite and she kindly recommended some positive bacteria. We treated the tank and then finally got our nitrite levels down. Since our tank was good we decided to head back to Petco to pick up some new fish. They had told us before to bring a water sample. We headed out and when we got to Petco we found Liz, who was busy, but she asked another associate if she could help us - by saying "this is the family I told you about". The girl took our sample, tested it and then called out that our water was acidic. Bear in mind I tested the water myself and everything was good - the only issue was that our alkalinity was in the safe, but not perfect range. The girl turned around and told us we'd need to treat it for about a week and change the water every 2-3 days (which was contrary to what everyone else had said). It was almost as if Liz was upset that we were able to stabilize the tank in 2 days. It seems like Petco doesn't want our business, doesn't appreciate our desire to educate ourselves and become responsible fish owners, and is openly frustrated that we didn't follow some of their advice (when it wasn't necessary or we were able to provide better solutions) - to the point that they are refusing to sell us fish. For what it's worth we left Petco and called a local aquarium and asked them if our water was bad based on the numbers and they said that the person had no idea what they were talking about. Because of that we went to their store and purchased three new fish. Take a look at their fish tanks and see how many dead fish they have! In fact one employee told us that Dory was taking a long nap before her death, she was pretty much dead and we seemed horrified by the fact that he said that and just let the fish die while customers are coming in to make purchases. Are you really keeping up with your tanks? We have seen so many dead fish that it makes us wonder if the mollies died due to them not caring about the fish. read more

Recently started coming regularly to this Petco and have only met the nicest staff (store, grooming, and training). Our dog (lab) has weekly training sessions with Mark. Mark is vey gentle yet firm with our dog. He shares tons of insights with us and our dog has come a long way in only 3 sessions. She is so much better with the basic commands and is better about not jumping on ppl when she meets them. We are relatively new dog owners and we have lots of questions, so we appreciate the helpful staff. Our dog also gets grooming once in a while and it's always been a really positive experience. read more

This review is for the Poulsbo, WA location. First off, I have used the vaccine clinic for my cat and I was extremely pleased with both the vet and his assistant. They were fast, friendly, and on time, and they were very good with my cat. Alas, the same cannot be said for the fish department. The best thing about that is the sheer amount of ornaments and tanks available at this store. If you are looking for aquarium hardware, it would be difficult to find a better place. Unfortunately this does not extend to the fish themselves. Most of the tanks were under quarantine when I got there last Saturday, and I saw quite a few sick and dead fish. There was one display column which was not under quarantine and I took the chance of purchasing a particularly beautiful dwarf gourami and two mollies. It's a good thing I am a very experienced aquarist and have a quarantine tank, because the gourami died in less than 48 hours, most likely of a certain virus which some dwarf gouramis are known to have. The entire back half of the fish became discolored. So far the mollies seem okay, but I am medicating the quarantine tank as a preventative measure. So, watch out for the fish at this location and if you buy any, always, always use a quarantine tank. On the other hand I can wholeheartedly recommend their vaccine clinics and the wonderful decor and fish tank hardware in this store. read more

I walked in with no intention of getting rats or adding any more animals to our already zoo of a house, but we don't often find our animals they find us. 3 rats in a tank where already such a tight knit group with a hierarchy, I've been coming to this petco since I was 13, Now 31, I have never seen a group of rats so already taken with each other. That was rare, a unicorn. I couldnt stand the idea of them being separated or worse any of them precious ending up snake food, when rats bond like that the loss of one can kill the others, rat can die from heartbreak, they are extremely emotional creatures. Keeping these guys together was my goal at any cost. Rats are the pitbulls of the rodent world and they need people to fight for them. I started out asking the manager if it was possible to purchase them and inquired if need be if they could be returned and done as an adoption to ensure they stay together but dont end up as food, (future warning for any rat owners who need to put up for adoption,) The manager told me they cannot ensure that, they can put them up for adoption but once they leave the store they cant be sure, (understandable, and reasonably not their fault its not like they can follow them home or do home checks, but fair warning non the less.) This is when I made the decision, to take them myself, I would have taken all 4 that they had but the 4th was avoidant of the others very lethargic and 'puffing' this doesn't always mean they are sick but better safe then sorry. This is where things took a weird turn. I went to tell the manager (a different manager) I was going to take them, they informed me that if one is sick they had to quarantine them, which meant i couldnt take them, they then told me that even if they wherent sick they where already spoken for by the Sterling Store, that they had a shortage, and the transfer papers where already in order,I asked to speak to the previous manager and ask if there was anything she could do who then informed she, she herself had just learned of the transfer, and that it was already in the system. I asked for the number for corporate and if I could call them and see if they could approve or change this, since here they now had a guaranteed customer, they brought me the phone number to call, and I did I explained the situation, and the lady told me she would speak to her supervisor, she came back and said she had gotten permission from them to approve me taking them, and informed me she'd be calling the store and put me on hold, here my hope soared and I got really excited, this was happening, they came back on the line, and very apologetically told me something about the store policy and not being able to go against it. Which seemed a weird response to the context of 'transfer', I then spoke to the manager in store, and they informed me that because of my inquiry of the potential adoption return that they didn't feel like they could allow me to buy the rats, and that they where being sent to sterling anyways, and where going ahead with that, my heart sunk... I pleaded my case, in tears no less, and explained that if I only was going or thinking in terms of temporary I wouldnt be jumping through all of these hoops. Heart sunken I asked if it would be ok to try and get them tomorrow at the sterling store upon delivery, they told me that would be up to that store. As we where leaving, I called the sterling store in hopes to have them put on hold for me, at which point I was informed by that stores store manager, there was No Delivery from Leesburg. At this point I was very confused, I told the store manager everything that had transpired what they told me how they even helped me contact the cooperate customer service line, they took that lie that far... played me like an emotional yoyo, gave me hope pulled it away, gave me hope pulled it away, They should have been up front with me, If the animals best interest where in heart I can get behind that, but I can't feel confident that was they case here. They assumed things about my life based on snippets of conversations, made comments about how two previous great managers probably got fired for not 'following rules' (at least they didn't lie to customers and throw another store under the bus.) Just that though, I can't feel confidence in people who would so blatantly lie, and manipulate a customer like that, let alone toss coworkers under the bus. What really did it though, is the call to corporate (its no wonder I had no idea what corporate was talking about in context to why I was calling.)... That took it way to far. This was so wayward from professional behavior, nothing about this sat well with me. Yet it was my character they felt weary of... Disclaimer: though my experience was bad please any one reading this considering about going there, go anyways. My experience doesnt need to be yours, and those animals need homes and love, dont do it for the people, do it for the animals inspite of the people. read more

I have used them a few times... Initially I used them because I could get my dogs in quickly. The first time, I had nothing to compare them to as I'd never used a groomer before. I thought it was pricey, but the dog was clean. They said they couldn't cut the dogs nails because he tried to nip them but he was a rescue and big and new to me, and I had never tried to cut his nails. I had requested the deshedding treatment and it seemed not to make a difference, but again, I really had nothing to compare it to. The second time, I took both dogs. That time it seemed the deshedding treatment really made a difference and I wondered why the experience was so different. Anyway - I decided I'd definitely be back. Third time... um... NOT the same.... This time one of the dogs had a few knots in her fur and I carelessly said for them to just cut the knots out... the girl went crazy with the clippers. She cut WAAAAY more than just the few knots out. My pyrenees looked like a short haired lab when she was done. It was nuts. And the other dog didn't look so good either. And on top of that, the groomer complained and complained about what big hairy dogs I had. If don't like hairy dogs you should probably work in a different field, am I right? Anyway - why the heck I even called them again I have no idea... but I did. I called to make an appointment and this time I was told that I couldn't bring the two dogs together because BOTH of my dogs were "nippy" and had tried to bite the groomer the last time. Are you kidding me? OK, the one big guy - he's nippy about his feet sometimes. But the pyrenees girl? NO. She never nips at anyone anytime ever. So either your groomer is a liar or she was trying to kill my dog. Either way, you need to fire your groomer and I am not bringing my dogs back there again. No way, no how. I took my dogs elsewhere today - both groomers said my dogs were wonderful, my dogs look happy and beautiful. The only problem reported was the big guy kept trying to lay down. Whatever. He's kinda fat and lazy, and I walked him to the groomers, so he was tired when he got there. I am not surprised. At least I have found a new place to go. read more

I returned with fish and water sample and my total alkalinity was just on the low side, but all other parameters perfect. Took my elder dog for his first grooming at this location. It was a wonderful experience. I explained he doesn't hear or see well and that he has sensitive areas. The groomer listened intently and reassured me. She explained that she would take her time with him as not to overwhelm him and so she could get to know him. When I picked him up he looked and smelled fantastic! She did a wonderful job on him! She was very kind and caring of my lumpy, bumpy little old man. Upon checking out there was an issue with my email coupon. The staff was prompt & eager to help resolve the issue. The could've referred me to the 1-800 number, but they went above and beyond to help me right then & there. Everyone was kind, friendly & helpful. My daughter and I went to Petco to buy fish for our new fish tank. When we arrived we were immediately approached by Caitlyn who was full of energy and knowledge! After visiting another pet store where we were ignored it was so refreshing to meet Caitlyn. Being that this is very first aquarium she educated us on how we needed to set it up and test the water before buying the fish. She even took us to the aisle and helped us choose the products we would need. We could tell that Caitlyn loves her job and is very passionate about customer experiences! This was our first visit and it will not be the last! Customer interaction, education, and the smiles that I could see through the masks from Caitlyn and Cristiana are so very appreciated! I really like this store, the people who work here are super friendly and helpful. It's clean and they have everything in stock, I've never gone there and they not have everything in stock. The people are really patient with my son he has autism and they let him see every animal, they tell him about them and truth be told, he just jumps for joy when we say we are going, they obviously don't let him hold them, which I really appreciate how they answer him when he asks too never ever a cruel word. Zero stars is more what these heathens deserve . The grooming is awful. I got forced into the vital care plan so that I could get a percentage off grooming. Where the groomer didn't properly clean my dogs ears out causing a very bad ear infection that has been very difficult to clear up. I had to cancel the appointment because the vet said her ears can not get wet. Then I bring my pup in for when the groomer suggested and the woman comes out and man handles my dog after the poor pup has been at the vet a number of times for the ear infection that the groomer caused. The poor thing was terrified and shaking the whole time. They refused to take her and told us to get the vet to do it. I call the vet and funny enough the vet has never heard of referring people to the vet for a hair cut. This place sucks. If you love your pet, never take your pet here. They are horrible. The place is dirty, and a disgrace. It should be shut down. read more

This is actually the best Petco I've been to. Some feel dirty, but this one seemed well kept and had a great selection of dog food. Food can be expensive, so you want to check for the Pet Pals on sale stickers. I didn't find the store to be crammed or unorganized as other people have noted. Compairing Petco to Petsmart, I really think it depends on the day. Food will be on sale at both places at different times. Staff will be helpful and nice at both places at different times. I have now been to this Petco three times, each time leaving with disappointment and anger. As I work retail, I expect much of retail staff. It's really not hard to be courteous, prompt and do your job that you're being paid for. The first visits were mainly because we were shopping in the outlets and had to run in to get supplies. We generally avoid giving any money to this company, due to poor experiences at other locations. The entire first two visits we weren't asked once if we needed help finding anything. I eventually had to go and actually find someone, as there was no one at the registers or floating in the store. I simply asked them if they had a certain product, the answer was "I don't know". No effort to find out or even help me find what I'm looking for. On one visit, we saw two very sick birds. Having had many rescue birds, it's not hard to spot an unhealthy bird. I simply went to tell one of the staff members that the birds needed to be checked on, specifically that they needed their lights on to generate some heat. The employee promptly snapped at me that she didn't do animal care. Okay..so you work in a retail store that caters to animals and their owners and you can't be bothered to keep the animals in your place of work alive? I have to say this is one of the worst Petcos I've ever been to..all because of their staff. On my third visit yesterday, I was looking at the rodents killing time for an appointment. One of their young staff members was feeding the animals a couple rows over and asked his coworker "Are you even an animal person? I'm not, I'm sick of these little bastards.". In any situation how is that an appropriate conversation to have on the sales floor? That definitely shouldn't even be an appropriate of someone who works in the pet industry. I was so disgusted I left without buying anything I needed. Let's just say I definitely won't be going back to that location anytime soon. Convenient location. Parking super easy. Prices are competitive. Decent selection of dog, cat, bird and fish supplies. The best part of this location is the fish department. David and Wyatt, from the fish department, are an awesome team. They are knowledgeable (most helpful and knowledgeable out of any fish department I have gone to in a number of stores). They were enthusiastic about the questions I asked and worked together to help come up with my best options. Checkout was fast and easy. I wish I had gotten the checkout guy's name because he was friendly, efficient and approachable. read more

We have two dogs, a french bulldog and a corgi. The corgi has been around the block a few times and knows what he's gonna get with a nail trim and a bath, so he was understandably nervous. The frenchie was new, so he was as happy as could be. The lady working the desk came around and was somewhat rough with our dogs when examining their nails. Since the frenchie was pretty happy he didn't mind. The corgi on the other hand was not thrilled as she grabbed at his paws as he was backing further into the corner. He gave a small nip and she immediately stood up and said, "He just tried to bite me, so we can't do him." I understand wanting to be safe and being cautious, but if you're not going to take any measures to calm and be gentle with a clearly upset dog then I don't have sympathy for you. We said that we brought a muzzle and would muzzle him. She said under no circumstances would they muzzle dogs. We dropped off the frenchie and drove back home awaiting the call. Once we picked up the frenchie, he was nice and clean. However, it was only after we got home did we notice he was gingerly walking and that his claws were very poorly trimmed. They were splitting and he looked like he was in pain. All in all, a disappointment. I have gotten the Corgi groomed at multiple Petsmarts without issue and they have loved working with him, anxiety and all. What little business they had with us they lost. read more

I took my dog today for a grooming not gonna lie I, was a little skeptical because of some of the reviews but let me tell you WOW !! I love how it turned out they got the job done just perfect! Not sure what the grooming lady's name was but she was very friendly and did a great job in doing what I asked for and was honest absolutely loved it. Will definitely be back. read more

Stopped in to get a few items for my aquarium today, was unable to get any assistance in the aquarium area, finally gave up and pickup up a few other items while I was there. Went to the check out, and a young guy there told me this line wasn't open, go to the other line, so I did. Customer in front of me had a fairly large order, and towards the end, the young girl messed it up and had to call assistance. Waited and waited, no help for her, finally put down my stuff and left. Ended up ordering the items on Amazon. Really bad customer service, couple of young kids running the place, don't bother going here, you get better service on line. read more

Not the greatest selection of dog treats. I think that if you need to pick up something in a rush this place is ok, but otherwise Petsmart is far superior in selection and quality. read more

This store has great management and definitely goes out of their way to help customers. The grooming dept has a fantastic and caring staff who always take special care of my cats and me. I rarely find service as good as this!! So refreshing to see it. read more

Looks nothing like the photos. I bought 2 fish today and they both died. Their Birds look sick. The "cat" lady is mean. Short staffed. The best thing I got was Ricky. My Hamster. He lasted 3 years! read more
