I had to update my review as I've since moved on to another vet and couldn't leave my rating a 5. I saw Dr. Corey a couple times and another vet or two over the next few visits. I started to feel the shine was wearing off the 5 stars after seeing multiple doctors and vet techs. Its not that they were bad, but I like to stay with one vet so they get to know my dog. The last incident which soured me on Steam Valley was when I came for a check up, and my dog's vaccinations were due in another couple weeks. I asked to have the vaccinations done at that visit and was denied. Reason is that the doctor was heading out to lunch and vaccinations need to be done with the a doctor on the premises. I explained that it would be another office visit charge if I came back (I think about $65) on top of the vaccines, whereas that day I was already paying an office visit. I don't think it was out of line to ask the doctor wait a few minutes to save me $65. After moving on, I realize now the importance of having a doctor on site at all times. I brought my dog to my new vet yesterday and while there, the front office staff came running back while the doctor was with me with an emergency. A poor dog was hit by a car. :( Obviously an emergency. If my dog had been hit by a car and there was no doctor on site I'd be pretty upset since time is critical in these instances. Because if this, I had to come back and update my review since my original rating wasn't an accurate reflection why I stopping coming to Stream Valley a while ago. read more

I brought my 13 year old Pomeranian in for a checkup in February 2016, and consulted with Dr. St. John about my dog's occasional vomiting, weight loss, a potential tooth infection and whether or not I should get her back teeth removed - she was not using them for chewing. The Dr., did not check my dog's vitals at all, no examination, except for her teeth and weighing her. We just talked and she charged me a hefty exam fee and gave me a 4K estimate for tooth removal, which I did not undertake. No follow up. No medicine. A month later I brought her in again in distress, she had been vomiting for two days and not eating. Dr. Germaine saw her and they did a full work up, gave her pain pills, Anti-vomiting medicine, antibiotics. Price: $643.00 and I took her home. Prognosis suggested was potential pancreatitis, but I wasn't told this until the next day when I called and she wasn't better. At first they gave me the bill and medicine and told me to follow up in a few days and to get her to eat. There was no mention of a potential urgent condition that may end her life. Another day goes by and she's not better or eating, I call to bring her in. The desk person said that they could not see her as they were down one vet and told me to bring her to Leesburg emergency hospital. I did. Turns out that my Pom had gallbladder disease that was perforated and I had to put her down. The vet there asked me why I hadn't taken her in to a vet when I first noticed vomiting. I did - Dr. St. John. We might have been able to get surgery for her then before the gallbladder was perforated that may have saved her life. She (ICU vet) also asked me why it wasn't noted that my dog had a heart murmur. Dr. St. John never checked her vitals that first visit. Of course other veterinarians had not noticed this who had checked her heart two years prior, in all fairness. Dr. St. John didn't examine Nikki except for her teeth. Net net, I feel that Stream Valley should have done a better job on the initial visit and if they had, my dog might still be alive. Why did the vet not send her home with stomach meds or antibiotics on first visit? I'll never know. Why did they not catch her heart murmur? If I had gone to another vet I think they would have treated her with more care and follow up. I know that sometimes vets have to make a guess as to the best treatment. In this case I think they didn't do all they could do. Who knows, she could have still had the same prognoses and end result. When it comes to a dog's health though at age 13, I would have expected more and am very disappointed. I am blessed with a second dog, a 4-year old Maltese who is healthy. You can rest assured that I won't be bringing her to Stream Valley. read more

On December 22, 2022, I had the most unprofessional and disrespectful experience with Dr. Mary Corey. It has gotten to the point that I would never recommend her personally as a trusted vet. I also want to share the completely disorganized and incompetent treatment of my cat, Gracie. For a year, I have been taking Gracie to see Dr. Corey for chronic vomiting and stomach sensitivity. I took Gracie in as she started vomiting again and per Dr. Corey's previous guidance, she would look for alternative solutions as we had already conducted numerous tests before. When I spoke with the technician, she shared a list of services that Dr. Corey had recommended. Interestingly enough, we had already conducted the same exact services and tests just two months prior. This visit was supposed to include new options. This problem isn't a new occurrence, I've had to repeatedly remind the staff of things that should have been annotated and included in Gracie's file. After informing the technician that this visit was to explore new options, she went to speak with Dr. Corey and returned with the suggestion of an ultrasound instead. I asked for the price and I was told $167. I agreed to the price and service, and left my cat in their care at 7:40 am. At 3:17 pm, I received a call from a staff member asking if I would like to have an ultrasound done, which was the purpose of her being there in the first place. I was frustrated that my cat had been sitting there for 7.5 hours already, just to be informed that they had no idea and forgot that she was supposed to have the ultrasound done and blamed it as a miscommunication. They also informed me the fee was actually $550 and that nothing in their system was priced that low. When I asked for clarification as to what they had done during this time, they informed me that they did blood work, which I had not authorized nor discussed that morning. They proceeded to ask if I wanted to pay an additional fee for the ultrasound. The complete lack of care and disorganization was extremely upsetting to me which I expressed to the person on the phone. Dr. Corey then got on the phone and aggressively said "either you want to pay for it or not, it's as simple as that". She would not allow me to express my frustrations or ask why this was happening, lied about previous issues, and was unapologetic for all the "miscommunication" in her office. There was no apology for having my cat spend the better half of a day sitting there because they forgot the purpose of her visit. She then hid behind the office manager, Kelly Reardon, because she did not feel the urgency or need to take accountability for their lack of actions nor did she care to resolve the problem that she and her staff had caused. I expressed to Kelly that I was sorry for her being caught in the middle, as she was thrown in at the end to speak with me. According to Kelly, she had no idea what was going on or what Dr. Corey said to me. I expressed the same sentiment to the girl who initially called me as well, as this was not their fault. The issues: 1) Services I didn't approve were done. 2) The technician egregiously misquoted the service. 3) My pet was there for an ultrasound from 7:40 am until 3:17 pm, just for them to call an ask if I wanted the service that I already agreed to, to be completed 4) Instead of Dr. Corey apologizing for the multiple issues, she demanded, in a hostile manner, for me to tell her whether I wanted to pay for the services or not, refused to let me speak, and lied about other incidents. I informed Kelly that if my business isn't wanted, then to just express that. Dr. Corey's hostile behavior was completely out of line and unprofessional. Therefore, I decided to immediately pick up my pet and call it a day. I will no longer be bringing Gracie to Dr. Corey ever again. I want to reiterate that I've been bringing my cat here for over a year for the same issues, and it seems that Dr. Corey's solution is getting different and more expensive food each and every time. This past year alone, her food was "updated" 3 times. What I see is that there is more of a focus on up-charging for services as much as possible rather than resolving my pet's issues. Dr. Corey was upset that I called her out for attempting to repeatedly sell the same services that I already paid for. Upon bringing Gracie home, she was so stressed from being neglected and kept in a kennel, that she started throwing up within an hour and continued throwing up the next morning. I immediately requested a copy of Gracie's records via email but I never heard back from the office. Fortunately, the staff at Caring Hands Animal Hospital and Banfield Pet Hospital were both more than willing to step in and obtained the records on my behalf. read more

Originally we had 2 Cats but prior to Stream Valley which was due to the incompetence of the other hospitals in the area he passed away I won`t say any more regarding that. Cleopatra has had a few health challenges since Stream Valley has taken over her care. With that said stream valley has been extremely great in their recommendations, Care, services and follow up, Their expertise in veterinary care is outstanding. Note: Regarding the negative posts I have seen we also have had challenges with certain individuals at the front desk prior to about a year ago, This has changed for the better, I will says that for the past year we have been totally Satisfied with this hospital I will recommend this hospital. In response to Dr. Corey's excuse... A pet is not under your health insurance. Exotics don't need to go through various vets in order to be referred to a specialist. It's not like taking your dog in to a regular vet and it has an eye problem and then needs to go see a vet eye specialist. (We also have dogs and are very much aware of how vets work). Never have I seen a regular dog and cat vet claim they can treat exotics too like this place. You can just go straight to a real exotics specialist without the hassle of going through this place wasting extra time and money for subpar examination and treatment. And you're right. Your vet clinic isn't for everyone. Everyone else who has the sense to never come back here after seeing the poor condition of the place, terrible exams and treatment and trying to get people to prepay for services. read more

Would give them 0 stars if I could. We took all of our dogs here when we first moved to Ashburn and liked it at first. Our 9 year old dog started having issues urinating and had his regular check up two months before with a clean bill of health. We took him to another vet who diagnosed him with prostate cancer and he had a HUGE tumor that was missed by the doctors here. Never will we take our pets here again. read more

We ended up leaving this practice. When you compare the prices to other practices in the area, they are VERY overpriced. I felt rushed and was somewhat upset that some vaccines were given without asking or telling me about. I just saw it on the bill. When my puppy was sick from the vaccine, they did not seemed at all concerned and were not able to make time to see him. This was very scary and ended up at another practice. I like that new vet encourages more of a participatory type of relationship and discusses each vaccination with me and we make decisions together. We have since moved out of the area, but I felt it worthwhile to say the folks at Stream Valley are not only great at what they do, but they also seem to truly care about the animals. In addition to regular veterinary duties, we had an aging cat go through a battle with skin cancer (I didn't even know cats could get that!) while under Dr Cory's care and we have absolutely zero complaints about anything. Everyone at Stream Valley was honest, straight forward, sympathetic and... perhaps most important of all... didn't appear to bullshit us at any point along the way. I respect anyone who doesn't take advantage of those in a compromised situation. The best news? They gave our cat 12-18 without opting in to the aggressive, multi-thousand dollar treatment... that was 28 months ago and he's still kickin'. I love these guys. They're always trying to accommodate people, always polite, understanding when pups aren't as 'dog tolerant' (we have a pitty) and let us go out the back door, are absolutely fantastic with how they treat our pup, respect our preferences without question on which vet we prefer (there's an older lady with blondish hair there that doesn't really know how to handle bigger dogs) and usually can get us right in. They're efficient but take their time and actually answer ALL your questions and concerns, they educate and the vet techs are always very friendly. They all seem to really CARE and love their jobs. I'm extremely picky about how our pups are treated (they're my babies) and how they react (or don't) to the vets and techs so the pups comfort is a HUGE deal for me. I really love the groomer at Stream Valley. She does amazing job with my Schnauzer mix. I am not happy with the way the hospital itself try to sell so many services. i was told my dog needed his Bordetella shot. The issue is There was no need to charge me extra $45 for a tech exam even though i mentioned many times that my dog just had a well visit with my regular vet. They even called me to offer other exams "since he is already here". I again declined. So even though i am loving the way my dog looks, i am not happy with the extra expenses. read more

When I first started taking my pets to SVVH over 20 years ago, I was impressed and they had always taken lovely care of my pets. Now, although they are very friendly and caring and competent, they charge customers for everything and this is even without telling the customer that there are additional charges for particular items, services, etc. For example, my dog went in for blood work and they said that I could go home and that they would call me when the blood work was done. They were going to charge me to keep my dog there so I chose to wait (for over an hour, mind you) for my dog in the office instead. Services are so overpriced that I can no longer afford things that I used to be able to do. Over $1,000 for a dental so I drove all the way to Richmond, VA, and paid less than $500 for the same services and for what I felt was superior care. I love the staff at SVVH, but they have gone downhill and are not open and honest about pricing unless the customer is a bit pushy about it. I am also made to feel bad when I turn down services that I know my pet does not require. read more

The first faces you see (besides cute furry critters nervous in the lobby) are always the most important. In their case, their staff is personable and efficient. Even the back office staff walking through the lobby acknowledge you. I took my parakeet in and, in addition to the treatment he got, they are a wealth of knowledge and they are willing to share it, and you always learn a little something you didn't know about your pet. From the country setting of the exterior grounds to the warm interior lobby, it's a real feel-good place all around. I had brought my dog in for her yearly physical exam in March and the assistant/doctor had failed to document it. They tell me that they had no record of it. I brought her in again for her vaccines this month and they asked me if I want to do the check up, I said no because she already did it this year so I don't want to do it. They do the check up anyway and charge me for it even when I told them I don't want it and its not my fault they didn't document it. Their unprofessionalism will cost you a lot of money. They also gave me some medicine "in case" she has a reaction to the vaccine. It was optional but they didn't tell me it was. I tried to contact them multiple times telling them this is unfair but they will just ignore you and tell you they don't have any records. They are money hungry and don't care about you or your pet. I took a kitten that I adopted from the LCAS here for a FREE courtesy exam. The vet techs and front desk staff were friendly, but the vet was a little on the curt side. Anyway, the visit went fine, and the pricing seemed reasonable. So, I took my kitten back for a second visit for its last set of shots. Again, the visit went fine until I double checked the bill...they CHARGED ME DOUBLE for the exam fee to make up for the free courtesy visit! Be wary of this office! They also attempt to upsell and scare you into getting medical care for your pet that is not needed. I will not be going here again. ETA: I find it amusing that my review is hidden. At least now I know that yelp also hides legitimate reviews. I have nothing to gain by lying. I just want others to be aware that if they are going to patronize this vet they need to double check their bill before leaving and read up on all core/non-core vaccines to avoid being taken advantage of. Worst experience I have ever had with a veterinary hospital. I brought my dog in on March 8th because I could tell that she had a UTI. I am a licensed veterinary technician and my little dog has had several over the years. My husband and I just moved to Ashburn and didn't have a vet yet. They ran an in house urinalysis and she did have a UTI. They offered to give me meds to go home with but I wanted a urine culture because her UTI's are generally resistant to the most common antibiotics. Since she recently had elevated liver values on bloodwork I decided (at the vets recommendation) to bring her back on March 11th for an ultrasound to scan the liver and a cystocentis to get a urine sample for culture. I dropped her off at 8am and I was told I could pick her up between 1-2. At 11 am Laura, a tech, called to verify some information. While talking with her it became clear that she had no idea we were doing a liver scan that day. She only knew about the cystocentis. If I hadn't happened to talk with her she would only have completed half of my dogs appointment! Finally around 4:30, I was able to pick up my girl. They said it would be 24-48 hours before I got any results(that was Monday the 11th). I didn't hear from them with results so on Wednesday I called. I knew my dog had a UTI and was anxious to get her on the right antibiotics. On Wednesday the techs said they didn't have any results. Again no one called Thursday or Friday. When I called on Friday I talked with a tech who was able to list the antibiotics that could work. I picked one because I have worked in clinics and was comfortable with the choice. However, I think it is incredibly unprofessional that a doctor did not speak with me about the results. That never would have happened at any of the clinics I have ever worked for! It is now March 18. Ten days since her first visit and one week since her ultrasound and cystocentis- I still have not spoken with a vet about her results or her ongoing care. It's noteworthy that they actually had the results of the ultrasound and the urinalysis the next day (I know this because I asked for a copy of each and the lab dated the completion). She could have started her antibiotics Tuesday rather than Friday. As I mentioned I have worked in clinics and emergency veterinary hospitals over the years and I have never experienced such an absolutely pathetic lack of care. They literally failed at every point in the process of caring for my girl. I don't know if they take on more than they can handle, have bad management, have awful communication or just don't care. I do know that I cannot trust them with my pets care and I will not return. read more

Avoid at all cost. This is the only incompetent veterinarian I have ever encountered. This is the only third yelp review I have posted in two years; the other two were 5-star favorable reviews. It takes a lot to make me mad enough to post a negative review: Stream Valley, Dr. Corey, and Dr. Fernandes forced me to action. I will also notify the VA Board of Veterinary Medicine. Before writing this review I thought very carefully about my experiences with veterinarians. I first took a dog to a vet in 1969--a pregnant chihuahua I rescued. Over the last 47 years, I have had nine pets (dogs and cats) that received care from approximately eight veterinarians. In every single case, I was pleased with the care my pets received; my relationship with each vet ended because he/she retired, or because I moved to another city. I have never fired a veterinarian--until now. On the morning of June 9, 2016, my girlfriend took our cat to Stream Valley Veterinary Hospital; the cat was yowling in pain, refusing food and water, had a drooping tail, and was clearly distressed. She was seen by Dr. Fernandes. Later that day we received a phone call saying the cat had a urinary tract infection, had been treated and was ready to be picked up. We picked the cat up during business hours at approximately 5:45pm. The doctor did not meet with us; a veterinary assistant did. We were presented with a $612 bill, and were given no explanation of the long list of procedures and charges. We were given a bottle of de-worming pills with instructions to administer the pills in two weeks. We specifically asked if there was anything else we needed to do for the cat and we were told "no." We were told to expect improvement within 24 hours. Twenty two hours later the cat had not improved and we called the hospital. Dr. Fernandes called back approximately two hours later; she asked if we had administered the medication. We replied, "What medication? We were only given de-worming pills." Dr. Fernandes asked us to bring the cat in, which we did immediately. After waiting 30 minutes for Dr. Mary Corey (the owner) and Dr. Fernandes to meet with us we learned that they had prescribed and billed us for six syringes of medication the cat required. It was coded Buprenex Sublingual Ampules/Carpuject--hardly an intuitively obvious medication to be administered by the owner. When confronted with this fact, Dr. Corey stated, "We screwed up." (direct quote, 6:38pm, June 10, 2016). When we asked probing questions about the cat's drooping tail, Dr. Corey and Dr. Fernandes reviewed the x-ray in front of us. The x-ray revealed an obvious abnormality in the cat's spinal column near the hips. They asked us about falls, impacts, or other trauma. It clearly appeared they had not bothered to review the x-ray before this time: These questions should have been asked during Dr. Fernandes' phone call when she told us the initial diagnosis of urinary tract infection. They charged $112 for the x-ray. They then recommended another course of action, a cortisone injection. Again, if that was an appropriate treatment protocol, it should have been presented during Dr. Fernandes' phone call, or when we picked up the cat. This is further evidence they did not review x-ray they performed. I confronted them about their failure to deliver the required treatment they had prescribed and we paid for and requested an adjustment on the bill. Dr. Corey refused to adjust the bill and offered the cortisone shot as the only compensation for their failures. She insisted the diagnostic was performed. I take issue with that statement because it appeared they had not reviewed the x-ray prior to our demand for an explanation about the cat's drooping tail. Further, we paid for diagnostics and treatment. Dr. Corey did not claim that treatment had been delivered. Dr. Fernandes, Dr. Corey and Valley Stream Veterinary Hospital clearly failed to deliver the treatment that was prescribed and paid for. During our conversation Dr. Corey stated that she was borrowing $1.9 million to expand her hospital. Expanding the service of an incompetent provider: I fear for the pets and pet owners of Ashburn. Finally, I engaged a dog owner in the waiting room in conversation and she stated her experience with new staff at Valley Stream has been below expectation: Clearly I am not the only one. read more

Take your dog in for bordatella and leave after paying close to $100 for the shot and a bogus exam/checkup. There was never a Vet (tech only) within 100 feet of my dog, so how di a checkup occur that was worth all that money?!...and that I did not need or want. I saw the rave reviews so I called to inquire about the costs and make an appointment. I spoke to one of the Veterinarians herself. She quoted me the exam fee and medication for my cat's problem. When I got there, they added on cleaning fees, microscope fee, and a medical waste fee! And of course, they wanted to vaccinate my pet 2 months early, for our convenience. This is why people go on the internet to order medicine and try to self treat first. What a joke! read more

We began going to Stream Valley when we moved to Broadlands about 6 months ago. Until then, I had gone to another vet close to my home in Fairfax. Had I known about Stream Valley, I would have driven the 30 minutes to Stream Valley. Seriously. The entire team there as a whole are wonderful. From the front desk, to the techs, to the Drs. They are phenomenal - and get this - they talk to you like you are a real person, make an effort to recognize you, know your pet, etc. In 10 years at my previous vet, most of the time, they couldn't get my name right. Now, My Maggie didn't really have any problems (that were identified, anyway) until recently. At 14 1/2, her body started to fail her. Dr. Kirke - who is truly amazing, did what she could, but ultimately, the decision had to be made and I had to let my Maggie go. It was the most heartbreaking moment of my life. Dr Smith - to whom I will always owe a debt of gratitude, helped me through it, with such sensitivity (she reminds me a lot of Dr. Kirke that way) . Drs Kirke and Smith both knew how much Maggie meant to me and did everything they could, but ultimately, were the best doctors to have as the end drew near and at the very end. Our other dog also receives her care there and I wouldn't take her anywhere else. They work with me to make sure that she is scheduled for her vaccinations, follow-up to see if there are any issues and sit down and talk to you if there is a problem. They are real people here, not robots. Love that about them. Also, they utilize an internet tool - Pet Portal, which makes scheduling, reminders, appointments, etc. so super easy. They offer daycare, boarding, grooming and obedience training. For boarding, call early, since they fill up fast, especially around school holidays. The client parking can be limited during peak hours - but there is plenty of street parking right in front of the hospital. They really are the very best in the area. read more

We boarded our dog here for 10 days and recently went back for a booster shot. I can't say enough nice things about this place. The staff is so kind and caring and treated our dog so well, he even came back happier and better behaved. We will definitely be visiting again. Their boarding prices are quite fair, also! read more
