I brought my cat there to get all his shots he was perfectly healthy without them except he had worms well the shots helped tremendously my cat has a huge lump on his back leg and now I have to spend money I don't have to get him looked at bc they refuse to take him there exuse was the vet was there certain days and only did shots but she's a vet certified for anything it's safe to say I won't be taking my cat back there read more

Just aweful i am heartbroken they shaved my rough collie! I have been there several tomes before and been relatively happy til today! He wasn't mated , maybe on his belly but they shaved him to the skin, what the hell! Totally ruined the beautiful coat he had. read more

everyone is very nice at the grooming place, except my dog came home with fleas. they took the flea collar off for the service and didn't put it back on, it infested my whole house of animals. if you are going to be taking dogs for flea baths they need to be separated more. this made my life a nightmare for a couple months. people at the register are also the slowest and non friendly people i've ever met. read more

I will never go to the puppy play time in this store on Sunday's anymore. My dog was bullied on more than on one occasion by dogs not being controlled by their owners or the trainer Diane. Yesterday was the final straw. After being humiliated in front of the other pet parents by the trainer I've decided not to come to this store anymore. My dog deserves to be treated like everyone else's dog and not be told he can't play with toys. The toys are provided by the trainer and every time my dog has a toy another dog tries to steal it from him. It's always the same dog, my dog doesn't want to share it and shouldn't have to. There are plenty of toys provided. This is bullying, plain and simple. It is not playful and my dog has every right to defend himself when he feels threatened. Maybe if Petco hired a trainer that actually moderated the dogs there would be less chaos. Some of the dogs that show up are not spayed or neutered, which also causes problems. The owners need to control their dogs and if they are aggressive they shouldn't be there at all. Sorry Petco you have lost my weekly business, which is unfortunate because I actually like this store. The store itself is not what I have a problem with. I hope you will look into how your puppy play time is moderated and handled by the individuals involved. Our pets deserve to be in a safe environment. Not in a place where they are continually harassed by other dogs running wild. read more

Huh. I had a completely different experience from the other reviewer. I came to Petco for an ID tag as well as a Martingale collar (like a choke chain but gentler and all-cloth). The ID tag I found with no issue but, after much perusal, I could not locate a Martingale. Oh well- they're not super-common and I figured I would just hit up a place that wasn't a chain, thinking they might have a more varied selection. Now, it's pretty routine to be asked if you've found everything okay upon checkout, and I have to admit it's rare that I respond 'no,' either because I've already come up with a new plan or because I'm just over it for the moment. This time, especially because the cashier mentioned she had noticed me meandering, I explained what I was looking for, and the cashier (Nykki) came around from the register (despite a line forming) and pointed me in the right direction. In addition to her help, the manager asked me if I was finding everything all right while I was deciding on a collar. He also made some nice small talk with a dad and his sons about the beta fish they were purchasing. Based on my experience, I would recommend this Petco location. read more

My dog gets groomed from them every month because his fur grows back insanely quick. (Poodle) every time he's back from the groomers, he's got a bunch of cuts and open wounds around his face. A few days later, it starts to scab up. My dog constantly itches at it and he whines while he does it. I've tried to put some doggy medication on it. It heals over time but it sucks how it's every time he gets groomed here at Petco. I do love it when they dress him up with a handkerchief at the end of his session. Would like to fix the situation with my dog NOT having open wounds in his body.. read more

The only reason this review isn't one star is because sometimes the sales they have on their website will beat out the prices of other pet stores. That's where the good things end. Other Yelpers have complained about this location's store manager, and I want to echo what they've said. I'm amazed that someone with Shawn's lack of customer service understanding would ever be in charge of an entire store. I had placed two online orders and was trying to return in store. I had the packing slip, the e-mail confirmation, and the order pulled up in my online account, which in most stores would be enough (three times over) to return an item. Apparently not at Petco. The cashier talked to another coworker and then called Shawn the manager over, who came over with a deadpan expression and reiterated exactly what the cashier had just said: there was a specific page I needed to print out in order to return an online order to the store, and they couldn't process a return without it. I asked if Shawn could pull up this page for me and tried to hand him my phone. Without making any attempts to apologize or look for it, he responded that he'd never been on the website before and didn't know where it was. (Employee of the year award, anyone?) I tried to explain that I didn't know where it was either; I looked for it and couldn't find it, and it seemed like it didn't exist. He responded with a laugh, saying, "Well it exists because other people have brought it in for their returns." Gee, thanks Shawn, for being so incredibly helpful. And for offering to help reload all the things I had wanted to return back through the snowy parking lot and into my car. Later, on my desktop computer, I did finally stumble accidentally on the tiny link that I needed to click on to get the printable receipt after some searching. This link didn't exist on the mobile version of their site, and every time I had tried to go to regular version of their site in the store, it redirected me. Apparently Petco doesn't realize that it's 2015 and people occasionally will go to their website on their mobile phones. The website issues really shouldn't have been surprising given all the problems I've had trying to order from them. The first time I tried to place an order, I had to call customer support because every time I tried to log in, the page would just refresh. Plus, I signed up for their rewards card online, and apparently their in-store computer system isn't connected with the Internet, so the card is only usable for online purchases. This company is poorly managed, and proof of that is everything from their website to their company policies. I happened to inconveniently try to make these returns in the middle of a snowstorm, and the poor employees at checkout asked me what it looked like outside, saying that their headquarters were in California and corporate were the ones who made the call about early closings. One of them joked about what Petco's liability would be if one of them got into an accident trying to get home. Do yourself a favor and shop at Petsmart instead. read more

They always have my dog's food, Blue Buffalo, and any other treats she usually likes. There are currently two women and a man working there who are nice and always offer to help, but outside of them the service isn't usually too good. I take my dog to small breed social and a puppy playtime class so that she has a chance to meet up with other dogs and get rid of some of that puppy energy. She absolutely loved the class and usually reminds me around the time that it starts, she really looks forward to it and hates leaving. I've asked other pet stores in the area and none of them have the social class that this PetCo does so in my eyes this store is amazing for offering that, especially because it's FREE. read more

Went in to ask about dog training whistles. After waiting for a stocker to ask a girl in front of us if she was ready. Then our turn. Taken over to the aisle. Told how the whistles wont work. I use to love coming to this location but as of recently service has gone down hill! Don't stop by here if you want quick service because that will not be the case! You'll wait around for AT LEAST 10 minutes until you have to go to the register to get assistance. You'd think the employees must be busy doing something important but nope! I've MULTIPLE TIMES seen several employees on their phones! I've watched one girl take pictures of customer's dogs, and I believe she's a manager. I will no longer be bringing my dog in with me as who knows where those pictures are going! read more

I took my dog to get groomed here. Don't waste your time or money. $60, (she's 40lbs, regular, slick hair, nothing difficult). A cut and a bath. I asked that she cut off all her scraggly looking hair and make her nice and sharp, and to cut her fur down to less than an inch long. She said no, she won't cut her hair because she (the groomer) is afraid it will grow back patchy......... I don't know about you, but when my dog can't stay outside for more than ten minutes because she overheats from all her black fur, I don't give a damn if it'll grow back patchy, I want her to be comfortable. ALSO if I pay $60 for a haircut, I think you should probably give me the haircut I ask for. Not only would she not cut her fur down, but she only cut maybe 60% of her scraggly fur. Maybe less. She hardly did anything and she did NOT DO WHAT I ASKED. And it took almost two hours, and they kept her in a crate so small that when she got back to me and I asked what was with all the creases in her fur, she said she was just cramped in the crate. Another one of her excuses for not cutting her fur after I pushed a little bit was that she didn't think the shears would even "get anything" (like her fur was just too short). I took her home and did it myself, and when she was done there was a lump of fur on the ground bigger than like two chihuahuas. How could her shears not reach that much fur. $60!! For what!!! Avoid these people!! I almost forgot, she ALSO cut the fur around her ears down (not all or enough) but just enough to make her neck look incredibly fat. On her way in, someone commented how healthy she looked. On our way out, someone said we should put her on a diet. She looked so incredibly fat, just the way she cut her. UUUUUUUUUUGH read more

I pretty much agree with what everyone has had to say about the customer service. With the exception of 1 older man and an older woman who sometimes work the registers in the daytime, everyone completely ignores you and gives you attitude if you ask them for something. When I have to go there for a specialty cat food or something, I basically just go get what I want, pay, and leave. If I'm lucky enough to have the older man or woman help me it's a pleasant experience. There are many places to buy pet food from in Manchester so it's pretty easy to avoid this place. read more

I have had hit or miss experiences only. They are 7/10 X out of the food I must feed my cat. And my only other complaint is the lack of costumer service- I must have stood at the check out for about 3 minutes while two co workers have a friendly conversation instead of asking me what I need. All I wanted was to ask if they had any food out back- which they didn't. From here on out I will avoid petco and support smaller stores. read more

I always come to Manchester for their groomers and friendly staff. They have wonderful customer service, as there is always someone there with a smile to help. I had a young guy with glasses trim my dogs nails in under 5 minutes and the greeting and work was phenomenal. My dog Morgan also enjoys getting half the jar of cookies when we check out. We bring my dog to Briana for every appt because she is a great groomer. We used to take him to a diff company and we would find cuts and knicks on him which made us nervous about if we would ever find a groomer we could feel comfortable leaving him with. However Briana does a very great job with him and even tho he does not like bathes he gets excited to see her and loves her a lot. read more

The dog training at this Petco is excellent. Last year, our family adopted a young rescue dog. The dog was great, despite living in a crate outside before we adopted her, but she was not well socialized with people or other dogs. We signed up for the adult dog training class with the trainer, Diane. She was great, and at the end of the six week class, the dog knew all the basics and was much more well adjusted. In addition to the classes, what really helped was the Small Breed Social that they have every Sunday. The social is free and it's a great place for small dogs to learn to socialize with other dogs and other people. The trainer, Diane does a great job of supervising and making sure the dogs behave themselves. Sometimes she has to step in when a dog is being too aggressive, or starts hoarding toys (If you just want your dog to play with toys, why go to a "social"? They are there to learn how to socialize with other dogs and people. If you just want them to play with toys, why not stay home and play?). We've met a lot of great dogs and dog owners there too! The staff at this Petco is always very friendly and helpful, and the trainer Dianne is great! I definitely recommend the training and small breed social at the Manchester Petco. read more

Petco is one of the few chain pet stores that sells marine fish which is a good thing and why I rated it at least one star but thats where the good news ends. If you are looking to purchase one of these fish or any other fish they have on display then you need to go into stalker mode and hunt down an employee and ask for assistance because I've tried the wait and see routine with the hope that an employee would walk by and offer assistance. You have a better chance of monkeys flying out of your butt before a Petco employee will offer assistance. So as you walk around the store looking for someone that works there to help, you begin to realize that you are doing laps around the store with no one in sight to help you out. There is the cashier (usually only one but on special days you might have two) who is busy with the checkout line but where are the rest of the employees? Are there other employees? What do they do? Is there a store manager? Does anyone care? Occasionally, you will get really lucky and happen to catch an employee coming out of the backroom and you literally have to get in their face, otherwise they will walk right by you. You also have to ask for help because making eye contact is not enough, they will still walk right by you. With all the competition out there such as online stores and local pet shops and Petsmart, one would think that Petco would try to distinguish itself through customer service. Customer service is a foreign concept for this particular location. No big deal, I can still get what I want somewhere else. read more

Not only do they actually have a good selection of food for cats, but they have a great staff. Every time I have gone in with a problem or question they were very willing to help. I had a problem with Merrick and we had to switch to Blue Buffalo (nothing wrong with the Merrick food- it is great quality). I didn't have a receipt but they were more than willing to help and accommodate this need. I moved out of manchester but this is still my go-to store. read more

We bring our dog here to get grooming done since we first got him. The second time we were not satisfied we complained and asked them to either re-do the service or give a refund. They refused us even though we are regulars. Won't be going again. read more

I have to agree with the 6 out of 8 negative comments. The lack of customer service in this place is amazing they are still in business!! The management sucks!! The only part I was impressed with was a handful of employees that try to be as helpful as they can considering how nasty the management is. I've seen them really try and make an employee feel bad and useless. They need new managers and I think the store would be ok. It makes me not want to give ny business if I see them treating an employee badly. I wouldn't shop there again if I was being paid to do so!!!! read more

I love Manchester's Sunday Small Dog Playtime. I spoke with Diane over 2 years ago about their Saturday Puppy Playtime. She advised I take my small puppy to Sunday Small Dog Playtime instead because some of the puppies were too large to play with my 4-pound puppy, Bella. I realized what she meant when I heard extremely loud deep barks coming from Puppy Playtime . We started the following Sunday. My poor puppy hid under the chairs and just watched the dogs play. Diane said it takes a while so I kept going. After about a month, Bella finally pulled her courage together and slowly started playing. Then I was scared, but calmed down because I totally trust Diane to keep Bella safe. The attendance has grown substantially and I tell everyone I meet with a small dog that Petco's Small Dog Playtime is wonderful. She has a way of gently stopping fights before they start. I haven't taken Bella to the outside dog play yards yet because I have seen fights break out with no one to mediate. I need to be sure my 11-pound Bella is safe. I have also started bringing my daughter's 12-pound dog. They both love it and Diane loves all the dogs. Sometimes people throw a toy for their dog to play with not realizing that many of the other dogs will go after it too. They think they are playing just with their own dog. The other dogs are not mean, just playing. Sometimes two of them will pull on the same toy. It is fun to watch and Diane will step in gently if a dog is toy aggressive. Unfortunately some owners do not realize their dog is the one that is toy aggressive. They seem to feel the other dogs are at fault for grabbing the toy. I am very happy that Diane does step in at these times to protect all the dogs. That is one of the major reasons I go to your playtime. I buy all my dog and my daughter's dog supplies when I come to Small Dog Playtime. If Diane realizes I need to buy some supplies, she will offer to watch the little ones so I can find everything I need. If you ever remove Saturday Small Dog Playtime I will not bother to come to Petco to buy our pet supplies. I will go to a closer playtime if their trainer is anywhere near as good as Diane. read more

I brought my cat here to be groomed. He gives me a hard time, and I'd rather have a professional do it. He has long hair and it gets matted occasionally. So I was quoted $20 for the cut and to trim his nails. I spoke with the woman before she took him in and let her know be a handful, he really doesn't like to be groomed. I walked around the store with my daughter and when we came back to pick him up she handed me a bill for $26, the $6 being a 'handling' fee. I wasn't told there was a handling fee for difficult cats. She just tacked it on and decided I was going to pay it. I told her it would probably benefit her and the company in the future to make customers aware of this supposed fee. I spoke with the woman at checkout, telling her what happened, and she told me that it should be in the paperwork that I signed, and that my $20 quote was just a 'roundabout' number. I wasn't given anything to read, sign or discuss when I dropped him off. She hadn't given me any paperwork to look through or sign at all. I paid the six extra bucks and they will never be getting my business again. Completely unprofessional! read more
