Smart mouth employees. Zero customer service. Don't bother trying to get your dog groomed here. They don't answer the phone or hang up on you when you wait on hold then when you call back and speak to the regular employee Justin gets all condescending and patronizing with you telling you: "Ma'am her job is grooming." I said: Ok then you should have someone who makes appointments. Justin: "Ooohhhh oh reallyyyyy???" As if this is some novel idea and I'm asking for too much. Hire better employees and someone to actually answer the phone to make a grooming appointment because how else am I supposed to make an actual appointment if I cannot speak to someone??? They always have snails that live after a week of getting them home unlike PetSmart but I adopted my chinchillas and Guinea pig from here. The staff was helpful and passionate about the adoption. Petco has pretty much everything you need for your pets. The reason I'm giving 3 stars is because finding someone to help is pretty much impossible when there's only one person in the store doing everything and her checkout line is super long. I also think the store needs to be more organized. read more

This location is the closest fresh water fish option by my house. We stopped in here to get some things to add to our tank. The staff, (a girl specifically- didnt get her name) was very knowledgeable and clearly has a love for fish. The tanks are all well taken care of. We got a new fish, some snails, a starfish and crabs. We also bought some live greenery for the tank for the fish to feed off of too. Everything looks great and we will be back soon I'm sure because theres always more to add to a tank. read more

Went to Petco in Middletown, NY to buy a Betta Fish, made the mistake of telling the girl that I was putting the betta fish in a GIANT mason jar and was literally followed by the girl in the fish dept. to the point where it was SUPER UNCOMFORTABLE. She was very unprofessional and overboard. She was upset that i didnt buy a tank from her after she explained what her recommendations were for the betta fish. I explained that i would go home and confirm the gallons on the GIANT mason jar (which ended up being the 5 gallon she was recommending) and she still proceeded to follow me to the register and grab the receipt from the cashier to write non refundable. $16 Betta and Petco has a 7 day life warranty so her doing all of this was SO UNNECESSARY AND EXTRA. It was very unprofessional and overboard. Ive owned several pets in my life all who have lived a long happy life and HAVE NEVER BEEN SO INTERROGATED or made so uncomfortable at the time of purchase or adoption. I WILL NEVER give that Petco my business again just because of that experience. PS- my betta is very happy in his new home which is sufficient space for him and has what he needs. Went to return a gold fish that died, they tested my water. They said the nitrates and alkaline was very high (PH is high). Those test strips are for aquariums, made to make you buy chemicals. They were giving me a headache, as the strip stayed there it started to change colors towards normal parameters and I was pointing it out, they heard nothing with their arrogant attitudes. By the way all of their gold fish looked like hell. To make a long story short, I use the tubes with chemicals to test my water, PH green 7.0 neutral, Nitrates yellow low, ammonia none. They scared me, I use well water, no chlorine, acidic (low PH), clean healthy water. No need to add chemicals of any kind, some rock salt, calcium for snails, and plant food pills every 2 months. That's it, all my fish are between 6 and 1 years old. Water with chlorine is dead and yes needs to be treated with a chlorine remover, adding enzymes minimal doses the fish create their own. Been doing this for over forty years and neophytes at Petco are telling me what to do. Go to Petsmart, they help you, Maybe that's why they are always busy. read more

So I've come to the conclusion that i will never buy an animal from here again. I bought two budgies back in April, everything was going good and then literally out of nowhere one of them died. I returned her hoping for some answers and closure because it's the store policy and I never heard back... but keep in mind that she was albino and aren't that common to find. When i brought her back after they died there was now SEVEN albinos that looked exactly like her. So it's safe to assume that the breeder they buy there parakeets from are doing incest. Petco either knows this and that's why they tell you if they die in 30 days bring them back or they don't know this and just might be negligent towards the situation. Either way it's inhumane and now my original bird from there has just passed as of yesterday out of the blue. Even after bringing him to the vet and them saying he will be fine. Truly a tragedy. read more

My step mother when in for treats, there was an ad up for buy one get one 50% off. Once at check out was told that deal was no longer a thing. If the deal was no longer a thing why do you still have the sign up. When I asked my step sister who works for petco she said that the deal ended yesterday and that they should have taken the sign down yesterday. This petco needs to do better since you have to drive to jersey for the next closet store. read more

He is incredibly knowledgeable about what fish to pair with eachother and how to care for a salt water tank. I had no idea all the work that goes into it. I come here regularly due to this store being down the road from my home. It's smaller than the local petsmart with a more limited selection but overall is good. As with most pet stores prices can be high. Service is friendly but there's almost always a long line at checkout. read more

Excellent customer service, excellent selection of food and dog treats, slightly unreasonable price tags but the registers always give you some sort of a break I don't know how they're able to do that but they do. The people that work there really love their jobs and can't do enough to help you. I took my 4 month old Golden Retriever there one time so we could try to get her size for a harness. One of the people that work there help me size her it took almost 20 minutes because she was moving all over the place and was so out of her element and afraid but we finally got it done. I eventually had to take the harness back because it wasn't the harness that work for her but that has nothing to do with Petco. I've gone back a couple times to buy food there and treats and they have a great thing on Saturdays. It's called meet and greet from 1 to 1:30 in the Middletown New York Petco. Just show evidence of shots indoctrination. I have always gone to PetSmart for everything but now I will be using both stores including Agway. read more

We have had an experience with this Petco which is unfortunate. We feed our dog Instinct Frozen Bites and it is seldom fresh, meaning, instead of pink, it is grey and looks like it has been frozen and thawed ten times. Given the price of this food and the fact that we live a half hour from the store and can't return it every time it happens, unless your dog eats dry or canned food, I would skip this Petco. Our dog won't even eat this food. So we are out the twenty or so dollars with disgusting looking food our dog won't eat. I think this Petco has a freezer problem so stay away if your dog eats Instinct. read more

I went today to return an item to Petco in Middletown, N.Y. and my receipt was 20 days past their 60 day return policy . I asked Maggie who said she was the "store manager" and she wouldn't override the receipt, not even for store credit. I now have to leave the store with the item I do not need. Scheduled and eventually brought in my dog for the usual wash and de-shedding treatment. Unfortunately, when I picked up my dog she was very agitated and her right eye was red. I brought this to the attention of the girl but all she said was "poor thing." I tried to look my pet over at the store but she was so worked up that I had no choice but to pay and get out of there. Jen said my dog was very well behaved but when I got home I noticed her rear left leg and both underarms had scabs were they raked the hell out of her. She also has a boil on her back that was not there when I dropped her off. Usually when I pick her up she is not running for the door. Every time I drop off the dog, they always ask me if my pet has any conditions they should be aware of. When I picked up my dog, the young girl had a guilty look on her face but failed to mention that my dog had injuries. I don't recommend this place! If you value your pet's well being, go somewhere else with more mature and professional groomers. read more

Purchased a new parakeet to replace a deceased older parakeet. I was informed that the parakeet was young approximately 2 to 6 months old. I thought it was very shy at first and possibly a bit intimidated by the older parakeet and its new surroundings. After a week or so I noticed that it had difficulty flying up from the bottom of the cage and had to climb the bars on the side of the large cage pulling itself up by its beak. After a scheduled cleaning of the cage and upon closer inspection I noticed the wings appeared to be clipped. I called the store and asked if they sell parakeets with clipped wings and the store rep responded very quickly, "Yes, and it depends on the vendor from which Petco purchases the parakeets." I asked if there was any sign on the large parakeet bird cage in the store disclosing that the young parakeets they sold had clipped wings and the store customer service representative responded "No". I purchased another more lively fully winged young parakeet from PetSmart down the road that will be my go to store from now on. read more
