We love all of the groomers! They all do so great with our dogs. Whoever was working the front desk the morning of 10/21 was a little rude. We were waiting for our first dog to finish getting nails done and walking our second around for sniffs and got scolded. Apparently we have to stand immediately in front of the grooming center because the store wasn't open. Nobody's ever had an issue with this in our years of coming here. Did she think I was stealing? This owners of this Location should be ashamed of themselves when l visit the aquarium department they could careless about the well being of their fish. These are living creatures and pets to many people that are in the hobby. Every time I go in there I find dead fish on many occasions I have found multiple dead fish and I go back one week later and they're still there at the very top of the tank stuck to the filter where you really can't see unless you bend down to look and they are all rotted with white film all over them which contaminates the water, making the other fish sick. If these were dogs or cats, there would be protesters outside please to the owners, I beg you please try to improve the quality of life for your fish read more

My sister and I absolutely love coming to this Petco in Dingmans Ferry. They have the most beautiful fish, both saltwater and freshwater. The staff in the fish section are incredibly knowledgeable, helpful, and ensure perfect water conditions for the fish. Whenever we visit, we're always delighted to see Jason working. Not only does he thoroughly answer our questions, but he's also polite and friendly. My sister personally only buys her saltwater fish from him. Tonight, Jason had Sam with him, who is sweet, genuine, and equally knowledgeable. They both provide exceptional customer service, creating an inviting and friendly atmosphere. read more

Veronica is great with my girl Meve. The haircut was done beautifully. Meve is very hard to groom ,as she has a double coat of long fur... She came home looking and smelling great...Kudos to Veronica. I know Meve is a big job as she is also 90 lbs. So this is a mixed review because this Petco has different departments. I will start with the good then move on to the bad. We have been going to this Petco for the past 2 years we got our puppy earlier this year. We took him here for his pet training if I could give the training a rating it would be 5 out of 5 stars. Dave was wonderful. We buy plenty of items here great selections. Where the score dropped for me was with the grooming if I could give it 0 stars I would. We took our puppy to the groomer and with our previous groomer having canceled prior to our puppy getting neutered his hair was longer and he ended up with some knots. We brought him here and they did mention that they may have to go short. When we got the call to pick up our puppy saying he was ready to our shock they had shaved everything. He's a NewfyPoo his hair makes him look so cute he's very friendly and playful. At least a call to let us know they were gonna shave everything and explaining that it was the only option I would understand. My daughter was almost in tears and my wife was so sad. Our puppy who always looks like he's smiling looked sad. I have to say that I will never bring our boy back for grooming due to this experience. As mentioned everything else in the store was 5 out 5 stars but the grooming gets a fail on our part. read more

I really can't say enough good things about my experience at the Petco in Middletown. I have 2 cats, the older one is 9 and the new one is 18 months. The staff have recommended the best foods for each of them and suggested fun toys and play things. Both cats are eating healthy and get good check ups at the vet. I really appreciate all the advice and help I've received from the staff. They have been terrific during the coved-19 Lockdown precautions. read more

Do not Bring your pet to this store ever. They completely ruined my beautiful Australian shepherds long coat. His fur was long and silky, and the workers completely shaved it all off. This was the worst haircut I have ever gotten for my dog in 2 years. Our Australian shepherd now looked like an ugly shaved pit bull. I specifically asked them not to make it short and they totally shaved it without my knowledge. This is the worst service I have ever gotten and I DO NOT recommend it at all. They saw their review, called us, to go get our money back. read more

Ana is great! My dog is hyper and she has great patience, is very loving and does a phenomenal job cleaning up around his eyes.

I booked a dog grooming appointment 3 weeks in advance to ensure a cut before the holidays and when I arrived the staff said she had to check if she can groom my dog because she is 17 years old. After 10 minutes of waiting, the supervisor comes with the staff to refuse to cut my dog's hair because she paces and they don't want her bumping into the kennel walls while she's waiting for a haircut. If there's a "old age"policy at Petco that warrants the staff to check with the supervisor, then they should have asked me my dog's age when I was booking the appointment or anytime during the 3 weeks I have been waiting. They could have also asked me one of the 5x they called to check if I had proof of updated rabies shot. The staff had no consideration for my time. It took me 40 mins round trip to get to the appointment and I am now unable to secure another appointment the holidays. Beyond frustrating!! read more

I went in for the first time to get my 14 week Siberian husky groomed. This was her first time really in such a busy place. Essence the groomer that took zoe my dog was absolutely wonderful. She explained what the puppy was going to get and an aproppriate time to pick her up. When I got Zoe back she smelled like vanilla was completely groomed happy and looked amazing. The groomer told me step by step how she reacted to the bathing and nail clipping. Great experience and we will definitely as she grows big be regulars with Essence the groomer. read more

I always thought of Petco as the overpriced yet simultaneously low rent version of Petsmart. When I switched my dog over to a natural dog food, I found that the brand recommended by my trainer is available at Petco, not Petsmart where I usually shop. So for the first time in years I went into a Petco and was extremely pleasantly surprised. The store was clean, the shelves fully stocked and well merchandized. It is true that there were virtually no sales associates on the floor but truth be told I'm not a shopper who typically needs a sales associate. It seems that somewhere along the way Petco refocused itself as a natural pet alternative to Petsmart. Interesting stuff. I think I'll be gradually switching my allegiance to this place. read more

We took my husky poodle to petco middletown last weekend for the 2nd time. She is almost 5 years old and gets groomed every 2 months or so, without issue. Everyone says She is the friendliest dog ever. Well, I get a very condescending call from the grooming manager telling me I need to get my dog and finish her grooming else where because she is about to "viciously attack" her if she keeps grooming. My husband gets her and brings her home, to find CUTS everywhere. Her legs, ears, and body. I am appalled about how someone could treat an animal so poorly and then blame the poor animal. Never again will we go there. read more

My wife and I were in there yesterday for dog training (our trainer Mandy there is phenomenal), however we had an encounter with an associate which makes us never want to do business with this store again. After training, we were walking our dog our the store and an associate (I believe her name was Dee, she was short with black hair and glasses) came up to us asking about her. After a minute of chatting, our dog received a weird vibe from her and started growling and barking at her. As my wife walked our dog away from situation, the associate asked us where we adopted her from. After i informed her we rescued her from MCSPCA, she quickly told us that this dog may not be right for us and that we may need to consider returning her back to the shelter. She also then started to say that if that behavior continues, we will second guess ourselves as dog owners and may be in over our head. She also started telling us stories of conditions in dogs that ours may have, meanwhile our vet can confirm she is perfectly healthy. My wife and I were extremely taken aback and shocked at this behavior. It was unprofessional and rude, especially since she is an employee at a pet store. There are very few reasons that you should actually return a dog, and just because she growled and barked at the associate, does not constitute any of those reasons. Petco in Middletown will no longer receive our business once the training is done. UPDATE: The associate who we interacted with was a Blue Buffalo Representative and the manager at Petco was extremely apologetic and assured that her and her main boss will take care of the situation. read more

I signed my German shepherd puppy up for a puppy class at Petco, in Middletown, NJ. I really didn't know what to expect because my puppy, Max, is a handful. Heather was our instructor. I cannot tell you how impressed I was with her. She knows her stuff and is so patient with all the dogs. You can tell that she really enjoys what she does and truly loves all animals. There was no question she couldn't answer nor a situation she couldn't handle. I am so pleased with the outcome of our training class and look forward to taking other classes with Heather. read more

I wish I could give this place zero stars. I was in recently and a dog defecated on the floor and i did not see and stepped in it. Me and my mom were there and told an associate who told us basically handle it yourself, and got us paper towels and a bottle of something that didn't even look like disinfectant, from a central part of the store with supplies for pet owners to take care of when their animal goes to the bathroom in the store. She said that a dog had gotten sick in the store in an agitated way, like "i guess i didn't clean it all up" because clearly she knew where the feces came from. i told her I was not doing the scraping of my shoe myself and she started to, then she wrung her hands and was not handling the situation professionally at all and ran off. But not before she basically told me where a bathroom was to do it myself, when I wasn't even at fault. My mom started to clean off the shoe bewildered and we then went into the bathroom to wash our hands because continuing to clean this severely messed-up shoe was a lost cause. On the way I saw the associate who had run off , in the front of the store with her back to me and asked where the manager was, before going to the bathroom and she ignored me totally, never even turning around. When we came back from the bathroom, where by the way paper towels were out, the "manager" was nearby and ignored us. I had to approach and initiate the conversation and when I asked her if she knew of the situation, said she did, and immediately was on the defensive. She would not let us know what the policy was when I asked for when something like this happens. All she would address was that "dogs are allowed in the store" and "accidents happen" and policies are "private" and would not say anything about when someone's personal property is ruined because "we (employees) can't always clean up messes" in the store. I guess no one goes around and looks for these health hazards and do nothing even when they know of them like the associate had in this instance. Also if you as manager know of a policy why would you keep avoiding the issue. The manger told us the original associate had "asked to go to the bathroom" when she had disappeared from the entire situation, I guess because dog feces disgusted her, yet we were allowed the privilege to deal with it ourselves. The manager couldn't even offer an apology. She kept interrupting us. She was beyond condescending as well and has no clue what an "inside voice" is and was so loud as if she wanted others to hear how "right" she was. You do not speak to adult women like children and repeat yourself to avoid an issue. My mom told her we would have no choice but to speak to corporate and the woman was totally indifferent. I was still shocked at this exchange and the treatment of me and my mom so I called the local police to report this. Because I was exposed to a health hazard from a dog who basically got sick with diarrhea, and for purposes of dealing with corporate, as well as what I strongly feel is instability and anger issues on the manager's part, I felt it best to have this on record. From outside the store I saw that the manager had gone from the front of the store where she was talking to other employees upon our leaving the store, to the back somewhere, I guess once she saw police coming in because she avoids conflict and repercussions and responsibility. I have a call in to corporate and await a call back so I am hoping corporate is more proactive and competent than this Middletown store general manager. And much more polite. But I won't count on it or any sort of apology or compensation for shoes that cost nearly $100. Maybe that is not a lot of money to some but to me it is significant and none of this should have occurred in the first place ESPECIALLY when the feces was known by at least one employee. Middletown NJ Petco employees are completely untrained to deal with anything. General manager is outrageously rude and not proactive at all-why she is working with the public is beyond me since she seems to like picking fights with them and not answering questions. The other employee decided not to deal with it and ran off playing victim and sighing, when it was me whose shoe got ruined in the most disgusting way possible. Not for nothing the product I went to purchase was not there-horrid selection, and I wandered around for decent amount of time to even find the section I was looking for because there are no signs indicating "cat" or "dog" sections, which is maybe one of the reasons a dog defecated in what apparently is the cat section. And since no one offered to help us find anything when we walked in, because three paid employees congregating near the registers to gossip was priority. I only went because I was strapped for time and the nearest Petsmart would close before I could get there. Not even my first choice of pet shop. Atrocious. I hope to see this store close it's doors. read more

Very good store, i went for the $1 per gallon fish tank day. Very helpful, 2 workers asked if i needed any help. When i went to purchase at the counter it didn't ring up by they handled swiftly. My son also cut his finger and they helped by getting a band aid for him and offered to have me fill out an incident report just in case any infection were to arise. Very great workers and girls. I have 2 cats, 2 large dogs, and 1 snake. I am in this store more often than I would like. There is rarely an associate on the floor to help. You essentially have to wait on the cashier line to get someone to help with feeder animals THEN you have to wait again to pay. I only go there because the store is close to home and carries live mice. read more

Apparently this store doesn't actually sell you things. It's like one of those North Korean stores that keep the shelves stocked with fake things but has no employees and you can't really buy anything. I decided on a whim that I'd get a cheap goldfish to put in my little fish bowl that I haven't had filled up in a few months so I went to this petco. When I first entered the store it was like walking into a ghost town. No employees and no customers, just a couple of hamsters and birds eerily sitting in their cages. After finding the cheap goldfish that most likely only has a few months to live anyways I then began my search for an employee in this baron pet wasteland. Eventually I found a small employees only office where the only two people working were bullsh*tting and ignoring me. I asked them if they could get the fish out for me and they said a "fish expert" would be with me shortly. A couple minutes later the fish troll emerged from her hole and I pointed the fish I wanted her to get out. She then began questioning me on my fish bowl like I was being held at Guantanamo bay. Unfortunately I was unable to pass the fish trolls test and was told to come back with a water sample... for a two dollar goldfish. So now I'm going to petsmart. Thanks fish troll. read more

I purchases 2 parakeets from Petco.They were beautiful, then the one bird died after 3 days. They replaced with no problems. Then they told me to go check the 2nd bird for diarrhea. I did and went back to the store to get some antibiotic. They told me I need to bring the bird back to THEM (relinquish custody (rheir words)). Today is the coldest day of the year. I said to them that I thought it would nott be good for the bird to be taken from the house, brought to them and then delivered to the vet. It seems arduous process. Why could I not just take the bird to the vet? They told me that care would be out of my pocket even if I borught the bird to their vet. I then mentioned that I was going to wait and see. The sales associate then tells me that it is on MY conscience. My conscience? What about theirs. I already had a bird die on me. Not to mentiion this is the third bird that I have had and they have lived 5+ years. I am very disillusioned with their attitude. They told me it was corporate policy. I think PETCO's corporate policy stinks. read more
