So i found a lizard at work (a school) and saw he was almost squashed by 2 kids. I scooped him up and put him in something so i could take him home and release him because there are numerous lizards around my house. I know nothing about lizards but when i came to petco in Montebello just trying to find out what kind of lizard he was and what i should feed him i was in for a surprise! The guy who worked in aquatics, Gio, came over and told me everything i needed to know. Like i said i know nothing about lizards but i told him i would be back im the morning with my boyfriend who wanted to keep the lizard aka skink. Anyway it was awesome to have someone knowledgeable about a reptile i knew nothing about. Thank you Gio you are my go to man about reptiles!!! read more

I have been coming to the montebello Petco for years and not once have I ever had such a negative experience with grooming. I brought my Maltese poodle for a bath and trim around her face. I explicitly directed staff to only trim her face and around her mouth. Once I'm back to pick her up I'm shocked by what they did to my dog. My little dog was completely shaved. There was no hair left on her body except her head. They also cut her skin by her tail by the way. After much confusion, anger and rage all the employees could come up with was that my dog's hair was too tangled which is a total lie because she had just been brushed two days ago! And even if it was "tangled" this is something they usually tell you BEFORE you leave your pets!! It was clear to me that the employees were trying to hide a lie and even worse, justify their horrible job by saying that my dog's hair was tangled and that she tried to "bite" one of the employees. As stated before, I've been coming to this Petco for years and every single time my dogs are glorified at how well behaved they are. So I find it very interesting that the one day staff screws up is also the very first time that one of my dogs (7 lbs each), tried to "bite" someone. Mistakes are made I understand but there's no room for dishonesty in a business. Needless to say, I'm never coming back here again! read more

So I was very skeptical on trying this place out to get my dog groomed (especially for it being his first time right before his birthday) since there's a lot of bad reviews on here & other Petco locations as well but I went & did it anyways because I thought I shouldn't judge before I try it out & honestly I had no problem here! I called yesterday afternoon & they were able to get my dog an appointment for 2 pm today & I told them over the phone what it was I wanted. I called them again today before his appointment to ask how much it would be & what was included & they were very descriptive which I liked (I scheduled him a bath, nail trim, teeth brushing, ear cleaning, & their deshedding treatment for $47... NOT BAD) I wasn't there to drop him off, my dad went for me but he said they checked his vaccine papers & let him know they'd take good care of my dog & then they called us around 4:45 to let us know he was ready. I went in & talked to the girl who groomed my dog (Ayasha was her name I believe, not sure how to spell it) & she let me know that my dog was very nervous & jumpy which is exactly how I knew he would be because he's terrified of everything but she said she was able to calm him down a bit once she talked to him & that I should stick to the same groomer so he isn't always terrified. That being said, with him being jumpy & stuff I expected him to have bleeding nails or something like what mostly happens at groomers but he came out so good! Nails were good, ears & teeth were clean, his coat was smelling good & not shedding at all! i come hear regularly because its convenient but some of the staff sucks ass. Once a manager refused my coupon because i screen shot it. said he was unable to apply coupons that way. the next day i tried again and the cashier took it like it wasn't a thang. obviously the manager was a douche going through a power trip. but whatevs. and a couple other times the cashiers have acted as if i was bothering them to ring me up. Petco of Montebello is your average Petco with average workers. Not going to rave about how Petco in Montebello is the best, because im just not the type to do that. I will say that its a sanitary place, with a friendly atmosphere, where you can take your pets to be groomed. Great grooming services. Brought my Golden Retriever to get groomed and it was reasonably cheap (depending on what you think is cheap). I will come back again, since they are right next to Toys R Us. read more

Made a appointment to take my American Eskimo for a bath and wash at 11:30am today. Got there at 10:30 to drop him off which I have done many times. Lady behind the counter said she couldn't take him until 11:30 I said if they could put him in the kennel she said no. So I went and came back at 11:25am apparently that was still to early to take my dog but she took two other dogs but not mine claiming she's not my dogs groomer so she can't take the dog in??? I would have to wait outside until then. What kind of customer service is that the lady just seemed like she has no intention of working just being lazy I have never had any issues until today. I waited until 11:40am she showed no signs of wanting to assist me So I left I wouldn't leave my dog with such incompetent staff! read more

I'm really disappointed because this was my second time taking my puppies for grooming here. The first time, the groomer was nice and did a great job with cutting, trimming, and everything else on my tow maltipoo mix puppies. She left their hair a medium to short length and they had quite a few tangles since it was their first time. The second time I brought them, it was a different groomer and she automatically said that one of them was too matted and she had to cut the shortest length. I did not understand since he was worst the last time and did not have to go that short. I figured, well this is what she does, she should know best. When I picked him up, he looked like a shaved rat. She shaved him down to the skin and left hair on his face and tail only. He is so sad and looks so awful. I think she was just being lazy and did not want to work at cutting his hair. On top of that I was charged almost 80 dollars for him to look awful. I will not be returning to this Petco. I will be looking for another groomer. read more

Not gonna be back anytime soon! I don't live around the area and the only reason I went here was because I saw it on the way home. I've been thinking about getting some background for my tanks so I thought I might as well stop by real quick to grab some. Let me emphasize "REAL QUICK". I literally couldn't find any employee in sight for the first 15mins or so, and mind you that this was not a huge place. When I did found help, I told the employee what size I needed, he kept on insisting that I needed to get 40" but I kept telling him that I need 50" and not 40". After about 5 minutes of measuring we agreed on 50". I told him I needed 4x 50" so he went ahead and cut off 200" I thought for sure he was gonna cut them in 4x 50" but no, he gave it to me as a whole 200" sheet. I told him that I wanted it cut in 4x since that's the whole point, I don't want to be spending time cutting them. If I wanted to cut it myself I would've just bought them on Amazon for much cheaper! So when he was about to cut it he said that he can't cut through the bar code, now for those reading who don't know how this work, there's a bar code for every 1 foot of the background. Anyway he said he can't cut through the bar code so one of the 4 backgrounds is going to be much shorter than the others. WHAT?!! That is the dumbest thing ever! Those bar codes are all the same! And they dont even need all the bar codes at the check out, they just ask for the length of the sheet! This fool was just too lazy to do his job! At this point I was just pissed so I just took the whole sheet. The story doesn't end there, I go to the check out and the lady in the counter said "oh I don't know how to do this" so she called in some help which took an additional 5mins or so. At first I thought she didn't know how to charge per foot or whatever because she might be new, but no. She couldn't figure out how many feet 200 inches is. Seriously?! I mean she's super nice and all but she could've just asked me or maybe used a calculator. What I thought was going to be a 15min purchase ended up being an hour purchase. What a waste of time! I use to bring my dog here for grooming. The service is horrible. I called to make an appointment and they said my dog is not allowed to come back anymore. The notes from his previous visit said he was aggressive to the working cutting his nails. I was never told this, just that he was being difficult. I spoke to the manager and said the young lady that worked on my dog was not honest and this was unfair and an inconvenience to us now. I now drive 20 mins from the house to pet smart in rosemead. I appreciate this place with their report card with authentic comments about my dog during his grooming service. read more

I come to this Petco every once in a while and I bring my dog w/me. I have to give them 5 stars because on my last visit & by the way this was the 1st time my dog has ever done this, she went pee right in the aisle. She's 100+ pounds so we're talking a good sized puddle. I turned around and was horrified, so I run to the aisle that has the cleaning station, I find this brown roll of hard paper which didn't really absorb anything at all. I went to the spot and laid down the paper and there was still a bunch of pee, so as I'm holding my dog w/one hand and trying to soak up this puddle with the other an associate walks out from the back. He probably see's me doing a whole lot of nothing w/the puddle and goes to grab a mop from the back. I told him I'm so sorry she's never done this, he said don't worry it happens. I wish I would've gotten his name, but he wears glasses w/black frames, what a life saver! read more

I really want to give this place 5 stars, but there a few things that do bother me about coming here. I came here the day I got my puppy, since it was on the way back home. That particular day, we were carrying the puppy with one arm and trying to get everything she would need as we had not planned on actually bringing one home that same day. A very helpful man was working in the food aisles and recommended various food brands - turns out he had a german shepherd too, so he talked to us about different things we would need and what to do to potty train, etc. When we walked to the register, the cashier was super nice and informed us about the training classes, gave us a calendar and everything. That's probably the only time I got any kind of customer service in that store. I usually go on Monday nights, because we ended up signing up for the puppy training classes on Mondays, after I was so pleased with the experience from my first visit. There's usually no one in there on that day, and that includes employee. If you have a question or need help with a product, good luck finding anyone to help you - the only person there is usually a teenager, or young adult, working the register and even though he's usually very polite and nice, he doesn't seem to really know much and be able to help the customers. As far as training goes, I'm on the fence. I took Puppy Level I and Puppy Level II (which basically teaches you pretty much the same stuff as the first level, but 'attempts' to phase out treats....the only way I was able to phase out treats was by hiring a private trainer to come to my house). I had Nicole for both classes - she's super nice and she tries really hard to help you and your dog and I don't really have anything bad to say about her. My only concern is that both times we signed up for a group class and ended up being by ourselves...now I was pretty happy about that for the first level, but now after completing the two levels, my dog can sit and shake and do all that only if there is absolutely no distraction. I have a very hard time controlling her around other dogs and people (she's overly friendly) and she won't pay attention if we are outside the house and there are any kind of distraction. I don't blame the trainer, but I do wish that I had gotten the 'full' experience. That being said, I take my dog to puppy playtime and the other trainer, Jasmine, is the one monitoring the playtime. She seems very experienced and knows everyone that comes to playtime, so it does seem like a lot more people sign up for her classes - maybe the times are more convenient or something. I will be trying her out for the next class as I want to see how she works and if things progress a bit more that way. Another thing - the store is always kind of dirty. Whenever I go there for training or to shop, my dog ends up eating crickets off the floor or finding kibble in the aisles. The products themselves seem to be well-organized and I can always find what I'm looking for as its usually stocked pretty well, but that floor needs to be cleaned. You can see old pee puddles that were left there and not cleaned properly. I hate to say it, but the Petsmart by my house is always an example of cleanliness. One last note - the manager, Virginia, is not helpful. She can be rude, and will most likely not listen to anything you tell her when you try to explain a problem or try to return an item. If she does end up agreeing to returning something that might be a bit more used than it should (like a bag of food my dog didn't like and had to use quite a bit to wean her off due to her sensitive stomach), she will make you feel like crap by repeating that she normally doesn't do that and that I shouldn't expect to have any kind of favors like that in the future anymore - all that in the most condescending tone. The only reason I keep coming here is because I signed up my dog for training and they have free playtime on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Also, they do price match from their own website (which is usually cheaper) and other retailers, so that's worth it. But if I just want to go to the pet store to buy a toy or get my dog to socialize a bit and get out of the house, I'll go to Petsmart in Alhambra any day. read more

I have no problem with the merchandise at this petco. Just like any other one, but the grooming department has the most rude staff I have ever interacted with and this is not the first time that I have tried this place out. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and went a second time, but no.....still terrible. They don't even know how to cut the dogs hair properly!! I asked them for a trim and my dog was completely shaved; my dog had one small knot and they charged me $30 extra for de-matting. I have taken my dog to places that have done a better job in half the time. I will NEVER go back to this petco for grooming again. read more

i went to petco to pick up some goldfish for my pond and was helped by William. he was fantastic he said i could pick individual fish and painstakingly hunted them down in a tank full of fish. he then checked them for any signs of disease and double bagged them. the place was clean,animals healthy and service was great. read more
