I've been coming to this specific petco for a little over a year now since I moved to this area , let me tell you in all the years that I have ever been to petco I have never been so impressed by the level of customer service I experienced tonight . I came in the store to ask if there was any way I can redeem my pal reward dollars because I kept having problems redeeming them and I didn't know why it wasn't letting me retrieve them , instead of telling me the basic sign in online or call the customer service number an employee by the name of Gabby was quick to call the customer service number for me to see what the problem was , she went out of her way to find out the problem.Meanwhile on hold she greeted every customer that came in , was ringing people up and was waiting for the representative to come back on the line to fix my problem. Not a lot of people get credit for the amazing job they do . I honestly believe employees like her are reasons why customers love coming back! I had taken my dog there for years and always liked the groomers. Then a few months ago, I went there and they had some new groomers working there. When I got my dog back, he was still shedding all over the place and his foot was bleeding. He was traumatized by something... acting unusually stressed out. I just got a bad vibe from it all. This petco is good, went in there for a quick pet run (crickets to be specific) and for small crickets they only had the boxed crickets which were 6+ dollars for a box of 50 I'm fairly new of having to feed a chameleon but seemed a little high for me. I usually go to PetSmart, but this place was way better. It's the best experience I've ever had at a pet store. The sales associate (I wish I knew his name) was so informative, and you could tell he loved animals. Not only that, but he let me hold any pet I wanted, since he was taking them out to play with them for the day. Before leaving, I also ran into another sales associate, who was very nice and friendly. I am considering getting a pet, and I will definitely be going back here when I decide what to get. This review is about the trainer, Kelly. She is amazing. We rescued a precious little Frenchie/Boston Terrier, Stella,and she had some "issues". Kelly didn't run a script on training like I had expected a chain store trainer would. At our first visit Kelly asked us questions about Stella and really got to know her. Stella has trust issues, and Kelly totally respected that . She made training time for Stella fun. At each visit after that, Kelly checked in again with questions about how Stella was doing and if any other behavior issues were popping up. She listened and always gave us advice and perspective on each of Stella's issues. Kelly also understands communicating with kids/teenagers. My daughter was the main participant in Stella's training, and Kelly drew realistic comparisons between being a human parent and a pet parent that gave my daughter insight into how dogs think. We finished the Adult 1 class which was 6 weeks. Stella still has some work to do on some of her new skills, but as soon as she gets them down, we will be back for the Adult 2 class. TLDR: Kelly is amazing, patient, understanding and knows her stuff. If your dog needs training, ask for her by name! read more

Today, my daughter and I went to this Petco to look at some fish and possibly buy some. We were helped by a wonderful person, Eddy. He was extremely helpful, generous with his time and information, and very kind. He went out of his way to show us things and make sure we understood what he was telling us. I know he's there 3 days a week working in the fish dept.--two of the days that I recall him mentioning were Thursdays and Saturdays. This is my petco, the one closest to home. I come here for feeder fish usually and occasionally I'll stop in for other pet supplies. Today I came for clippers for my dog and quickstop. I just want to say that the associate, Sam, was absolutely amazing. He checked to see if we needed help within 3 minutes of walking in, he also price checked the product to make sure I got the best deal. He was friendly, knowledgeable, kind, and saved me money. I took my 6 month old puppy for grooming today. This was my 3rd time taking my puppy in for bath and the first 2 visits were pleasant experiences. My dog always come out very clean and smelling good. No complaints at all about the groomers. Sam who handled my pup the first 2 visits and Zeydi the 3rd visit(today). Even though Zeydi was 10 mins late in the morning as we waited outside the store, that did not change my mood b/c she was so professional and friendly when we finally walked in. They are both wonderful, friendly and very professional. Kudos to both of them. Today, however, I had a chance to meet Nicole. Before I left the groomers, I was told my pup should be ready by Noon, if ready earlier, they will call me. I got caught up with other things in the morning and didn't get a chance to check my phone for missed calls/messages until 12:20pm or so. I got a call from Nicole, asking if anyone is on their way to pick up my dog. She started informing me that they can't keep the dogs in kennels too long and my dog peed and pooped in the kennel. Also, that there is no one there to take the dog out to pee and poop. So, of course I apologized and told her I was on my way. For the record, I don't expect the groomers to walk my dog to relieve himself. Second, he's still a puppy, therefore, he's going to have accidents. So, as soon as I got to the groomers, I opened the door and saw Nicole behind the monitor. The first thing I said was "I'm sorry, I know I'm late." But the first thing I noticed w/ Nicole was this pouty face she had on. There was no "Hi, welcome." or even an acknowledgement of my apology. She had a look of judgement on her face as she gave me the paperwork to pay. I just brushed her attitude off. As I hear my dog barking in the back, I tried to make small talks to see if I can turn the awkward vibe Nicole was giving off. So I asked, "Oh, is that my dog barking?" Then Nicole responded, "Yep." with a stern, frigid tone of voice. Awkward and uncomfortable, I must say. I've dealt with irate customers in the past and I know how difficult it is to set your emotions aside. But I was NOT irate. I was apologetic, I acknowledged it was my fault for being late. Instead of me trying to turn the situation around by making small talks, she should learn to do the same. The vibe she gave out was so uncomfortable and so negative. Maybe my dog felt her negative energy as well that's why he peed and pooped in the kennel. Just as a reminder, the groomer was also late in the morning, as I was late picking up in the afternoon. I waited outside the store until she arrived. And you don't see me with a pouty face and giving her attitude. Neither did the groomer (Zeydi), she had her smile on, she was friendly, and welcoming. Anyhow, Nicole need to work on her customer service skills. A simple smile on the face or a positive tone of voice goes a long way. I've thought about not leaving a tip for this negative experience with Nicole. But, I realized I'm leaving the tip for the actual groomer Zeydi. I may consider coming back to Petco Grooming on Tampa as long as I get to work with Sam or Zeydi. Maybe also with Nicole, but with a more positive attitude. read more

I've just had a return today and usually have the hardest time with returns but Aaron helped me and he really has a positive attitude which is refreshing because lately any store I walk into has staff that is miserable and looking for a way to provide zero customer service. I think his positive attitude really nice even when you are returning stuff. He didn't hassle me or make me exchange to another item. He has another associate help me carry stuff in. I've been to high end and all kinds of pet stores and I love this location. Also the store is well stocked and there is always someone nice to help you. I would post no stars if i could. I was going to call corporate but due to the times, i don't much feel like waiting on hold. Anyways, an Extremely rude worker and manager cornered me two times over a 15 dollar fish bowl within my visit that i used to count worms for my 4 bearded dragons. The one girl worker..nastily grabbed the bowl from me and said you can't do that and now we can't sell it, etc. It had some residue from worm oats.. get real. She could have approached me with kindness/professionalism but chose nastiness instead. I got irritated said whatever and went to get cat food. Honestly, I didn't know how else to count the worms so that i was getting what i was paying for. Almost everytime i have purchased worms from them, i got jipped. I would bring them home and the containers would only have maybe 20 or 30 instead of the 50 worm ct. Over the past year, i have spent probably 1,000 dollars in their store for 4 bearded dragons. in that whole time, i received one coupon. So now i arrive at the checkout and the nasty woman manager is trying to make me purchase the fish bowl and making nasty faces at me. I explained the situation, what i have spent there and she never even tried to come up with a better resolution as to how to make sure i was getting what i paid for. Really disgusting behavior! Kyle was very helpful, professional, and nice. I had a bad experience at the Burbank Petco and he rectified it. He really cared and was very sincere. I've seen pictures of shrimp coexisting with Betta, but it didn't work out for mine. The shrimp found another home. You don't know until you try. I recommend this location if you're going to shop at Petco. It's out of my way, but I have friends who live here, so I'll be in when I'm in the area if I need something. Do your research, too, animal lovers, prior to visiting a pet store and taking on the responsibility of another living thing. read more

Petco on Tampa is a shining example of how a Petco store should operate. Aisles and products are kept meticulous, and the store employees show effort and sincerity in helping people. The store manager AJ is one of the friendliest people I have ever met, which is not what you might expect from a GM. The animals are kept in good condition. Only downsides I can think of is that it neighbors Inn N Out, which can be annoying since the parking lot is always flooded with cars. Also annoying are dog owners that let their dogs pee on the pillars just outside the entrance to the store. C'mon people, they have grass areas on both sides of the store. Overall, great store, staff and product selection. read more

My dogs love going to this store. Their manager and trainer treat my dogs like superstars. The customer service is great and they are very helpful with suggestions and assist in finding things. The freezer area is a wonderful addition to what you would find at competitors. My dogs go crazy for the doggie treat bar with all sorts of cookies and raw hide sticks sold by the pound. I had a traumatic experience at another chain pet store (not Petco) and was hesitant to buy more fish from these types of stores due to the conditions they normally keep them in. I was pleasantly surprised by the condition of ALL of the animals. The tanks and cages were well cleaned, the animals looked healthy and happy. I went there to buy fish and the older gentleman that works in the fish department was incredible. He gave me great advice and great tips for my fish and really listened to me. He has a passion for these animals, he's extremely knowledgeable, and he shared his experience with them as well which made me feel comfortable that he knows his stuff. There were a few dead fish in one tank and he explained that when shipments come in, due to weather or just the stress, not all of them make it. You could tell he was genuinely bummed and cared for the animals and took care of it immediately. I love that because I don't see it often at these stores. Fish are active and healthy and in great condition! read more

I am very disappointed that after taking my dog there for 6+ years that today they say that they won't give her a haircut.... because the clippers they use are not for a dog with lots of hair! My dogs hair hasn't changed over the years so I am not clear with that explanation. When I asked she said they would clean the ears, clip nails and trim the chest and lower leg area but not full body trim for the same price!! Wow! Guess our business will be elsewhere. This is not my normal Petco that I go to, but ended up here because I called to ask if there was time and space to have my dog groomed on Sunday. Every other Petco in the valley was full and told me so. I was told by this store, "Sure, if you can have him here by noon, we can do it." I show up at noon only to be told that they only had time to do a nail trim. It was like the Sienfeld episode...you can't just TAKE the reservation, you have to HOLD the reservation, especially when I am driving half way across the valley. Bad form!!! read more

I enrolled my puppy for a puppy class,i didnt went to work that saturday because i wanted attend her first class,as soon as we enter the place i waited for 20mins just to get an answer telling me that there is no coass because the teacher was on vacay..I was like why didnt you guys send me an email or call me right away?but i decided not to tell them that and just simply smile and said ok i'll just come next sat.For the second time i went they told ke that the teacher is sick?i was like well if he is sick you guys should have a replaement or other teacher available right? And they just simoly smile and said sorry for this.For the third time another "No class" due to theres is no available teacher?That's when i had it and i told the guy to call the manager and i told them i want my money back! And humbly told her look im sorry if i sound mad right now but i think i have every right to feel that way because of your poor system!..She is nice telling me about how sorry they are and that they will give me half off blah blah if i decided to not quit the class blah blah and i told her straight out,I think i had enough of wasting my time and gas coming here for nothing..The thing is that you cant even get hold of them because the class starts at 9 and the store opens at 9 or 9:20ish..Trying to call them few days before the class and the answer i got was either call us some other day or the place is busy.. read more

We took our two little dog children to be groomed, they looked like little teddy bears when they went in, and came out looking beautiful. Mollie, my old poodle has gotten blind and deaf, and gets very anxious when you try to work on her face. She totally freaked out and then poor Adrianna had no one there to help her. She left mollie with a beard and long muzzle and offered to fix that in the morning if we brought Mollie back.i felt that my husband and I should just fix the longest hair rather than put either Adrianna or mollie through that again, especially so soon. I have used petco for grooming in Santa clara, ca, and I've always been happy with the results. Adrianna really cared for my dogs, and worried over Mollie. Adrianna called me several times to let me know how things were going with mollie, but I felt bad for her cause Mollie freaked out every time Adrianna picked up the comb around her face. I have 10 bucks in pet perks and decided that I would check out this store seeing that they have saltwater fish there. I was getting some emerald crabs, hermit crabs, and some sharknose gobies. As the aquatics "expert" was lifting up the the rocks to get the gobies, I observed some movement on the rocks. After further observation, the rocks bottom was covered in fire/bristle worms. The "expert" claims they won't spread throughout the tank just through water, bacteria, and such. However, with multiple years of experience, a tank that previously had an infestation, and a huge amount of research on the worms, yeah, right. If you are looking for fish, inverts, anything pertaining to saltwater and is in their water, DON'T DO IT. read more

I bought Blue Buffalo food for my dog at Petco.com and was told by the manager at this store that I could return it there if it was under 60 days. My dog died so I took the bag of food to the store on 9/15/14. A man identifying himself as the manager (their corporate office told me later that he was an assistant manager) refused to refund my money and told me I didn't have the right receipt after he left with my paperwork and didn't come back for several minutes. What that "right" receipt was, I don't know because I was never told!!!! I had a copy of the receipt sent online for the order showing the $53.40 I'd paid plus the email showing that it had been shipped plus the unopened bag of food! He said that I would have to wait until he called somewhere and they sent him an email before he could refund my money. It's over 100° here and I left early to do my errands. I'm a senior and disabled and carrying the bag of food in has caused me a lot of pain. I yelled at him to tell me how long I would have to wait and he just shrugged. Then I yelled at him to just give me my money back and wait for his email. If it didn't work out he could call me and he refused to do that. He then told me that he wouldn't help me if I kept yelling at him! Is he 2 years old????? Isn't he supposed to be a manager working as an adult? I gave up and told him that I was going to report him and he smirked at me and said to go ahead. I've NEVER been treated like this and I've never met such an arrogant jerk before! I screamed at him to carry the bag back out to my car which he did and then he condescendingly said "Have a nice day." When I got home I called their corporate office and the girl I talked to was horrified that I would be treated that way. She said she would take care of it for me and UPS would pick up the bag at my home today and then she would credit my account. She also said she would have the store manager, DAVID, call me back to discuss the way I was treated by Josh! I sat home all day today and UPS NEVER showed up and DAVID NEVER CALLED! Guess Josh can smirk all he wants and abuse and cheat people and he doesn't have any reason to worry. His boss is the same as he is - an arrogant jerk! Now the date is drawing near where I won't be able to get my money back, my dog is dead and I am stuck with Blue Buffalo dog food that I was promised was guaranteed a refund for any reason!!!! The Staff at this Petco knows almost nothing about the products or animals they sell. They are unhelpful and not even properly equipped with the products you would need to take care of some of their animals. I went in trying to get supplies for a guinea pig enclosure and I couldn't get half of the supplies I needed. They have large ceramic food bowls in their miniscule cages for the guinea pigs but apparently they don't sell them in the store. The largest they had was a 3.5" diameter ceramic bowl which I doubt would hold enough food for 3 Guinea's for an entire day. I feel awkward when after about 15 minutes of research on an animal on the internet, I know more than the Pet Store staff. I also asked them about how long they will guarantee an animals health and I was told a meager 10 days, that's barely enough time to see the animals sickness begin to show if you are attuned to the animal. Also, when I asked the staff for help with finding an Item they ignored me for at least 5 minutes which might be understandable considering that I saw 6 employees at the store: 2 at the Cash Registers and 4 outside the store smoking... This store is Pathetic! read more
