First time going to the Petco groomer. Ladies were preoccupied and rude. Had an 11am appt and they didn't start till noon. One woman wasn't even grooming dogs, just sitting there chatting together. Only cleaned up my pups ears and face, they didn't have "time" to cut the rest. I'd like my money back but they couldn't figure out how to do it. I hate Yelp, but this is how pissed im at Petco - I had to download the app and recreate my account, spent 10 minutes doing that just to write this review. Don't go to Petco, don't signup for their health program. They suck and literally it's their only job. read more

Pet photo with Mrs Claus at Petco day from 2-4 (free event) First, everyone deserves a raise and five stars. The event was organized, everyone was friendly and professional, patient and invested in helping us get the best pictures of Max. Mrs Claus was really patient with Max while her helper tried to get Max's attention and offered to take family pictures with her after we took solo pictures of our sweet doggie. Even the cashier cheered and tried to get Max to sit still and look at me for a great photo! This was really special for me as I know my rescue dogs will not live as long as I will. Moments and memories like this are nice. Thank you everyone for making this special for our family. In the end, Max got a dog treat and we got candy canes. I bought Max yet another outfit (he has more clothes than me) and some treats from the self service bar - he loves those cookie sandwiches. She definitely deserves more than five stars and because of her I will be returning! My boys came home happy and clean and even had cute bandannas on! We received a flyer advertising our cats' favorite food at a great price so we dropped in before going to Costco. They had a huge selection of cat food, which is amazing as most stores have been out. Everyone working there was helpful. The store looks like it needs some love. Flooring is uneven, the restroom was dirty and out of toilet paper, soap, and paper towels. It's not as new or clean as other pet stores. It is well stocked. Some good brands, and some things I'd pass on. I was very surprised that it sold live animals. I thought that was banned, but maybe only certain species and sizes. Kids were excited to see small critters and fish. All in, it's fine for name brand items you know and need. Be sure to get advise on food, supplements, and other pet supplies from your vet or other highly knowledgeable, trusted vet source. read more

Ashley W. cut our dog in January. Told my husband she "doesn't like to do older dogs." Our dog looked like she didn't trim his face, rest of his body was ragged and patchy. And our dog got an anal gland infection, which has not happened in years. If you love your animal, and they are senior dog, don't let her cut them because she doesn't like to do them, aka, does not care. read more

Sadly, the staff turnover in the grooming salon is so rampant that they are unable to maintain good help over time. Not one groomer manages to stay even a year. Is it because of poor management or meager pay? Who knows. I have taken multiple dogs here for the two decades I've lived in Novato and will no longer bring my dog here for grooming. The management is unprofessional and the turnover of the grooming staff is just too much. Take your pet where they are going learn to know you and your pet and where they employees are paid a fair wage and treated well. Petco is not the spot. Do not recommend. read more

My husband took our beautiful small Javanese terrier for her first grooming. He arrived 15 minutes before our 1pm appt. He was told it may take up to 3 hours. He then went to lunch and called me. I broke my shoulder and couldn't bathe my dog. I said that was strange. He went to Petco to check on our Fanny. They used her as an assembly line piece as Henry Ford did with his automobiles. She was given a bath and sent to a cage for an hour.. she was shivering when my husband went to check on her!!!! When my husband said to give her a towel they said no! When he said to dry her with a dryer they said it wasn't her turn. My husband was taking his sweatshirt off to put it around Fanny and he was told that it would cause germs. Thank God he took our beautiful shivering girl away from that place as fast as he could. how horrible.. we saved our little one with compassion without borders. we brought her to Petco and they abused her. read more

I was hesitant to take my Goldendoodle, Dude, to Petco for grooming since he has a difficult coat, but I was very satisfied with their service. Danny R called me after I dropped him off and explained Dude was extremely matted and that he would have to cut him pretty short. I really appreciate that he called to communicate the best options for my dog. Danny was very patient and caring with Dude and I was extremely happy with how his cut turned out. If I could give less than a 1 star review I would. I visited this store today and waited in line to return some items. Got to the front of the line and needed to get my receipt, which yes, I should have had handy. So my fault there. The cashier asked me to step aside so she could help the customer behind me, which I did of course. After she was done, I walked back up to have her do return and she told me she needed to prioritize the customers purchasing. Extremely terrible customer service. Do not subject your animal to this place for grooming. Many reviews all say the same thing and Petco has a history of dog deaths in the cage dryers - Google it. I am so upset with myself that I didn't check reviews before I left my beloved doodle here. I was desperate for him to be groomed because the foxtails around our neighborhood are prolific and have been unforgiving. It took 8 hours to groom him because they couldn't dry him with the dryer. He broke two leashes on the table while the employee tried to blow dry him. He has been groomed two times in Oceanside and they had no issues with him at all. They put him in the dryer cage which I know many animals have died in at Petco and thought they no longer used them. When I arrived to get him there was a dog in the lead and the only employee was at the computer. You are never suppose to leave a dog on the table or in the dryer cage unattended. This is more a review on my issue with scheduling grooming appointments for my dog than any one location. It just so happens that the Novato location was the most recent location to try and cancel my appointment. One of the Santa Rosa locations canceled my appointment, that I made well in advance, two straight times. Novato was about to cancel my appointment to make it three in a row, but I had to request that my dog be seen that day. They took my dog in that day for a grooming. The groomer was very nice, but I'm over the maybe-I-will, maybe-I-won't process. I am going elsewhere for all my pet needs. read more

Don't buy your fish here! We purchased 6 tetras here. HOWEVER, when we introduced them into our fish tank, we started to noticing that some of the other fish were exhibiting odd behaviors. As it turns out, they were sick with ich! We called to see if they could return them or even assist us with these fish. IAN was so so rude and unprofessional. He said " I have like 100 fish and you have like 5". Like what?? We went to the Petco in San Rafael instead and they told us that their tetras were sick and therefore unable to purchase. At least they were honest about the condition of their fishes! It astounds me of the level of unprofessionalism the manager showed us. I'm pretty sure the groomers that work here don't really care for their jobs.. maybe she misunderstood me when I said please don't cut my dogs eyelashes. When husband brought them home guess what was completely missing. The damned eyelashes. I agreed to the face feet and fanny trim - more like shave. Went by to pick up some bamboo for my tank and self served as I normally do. I stood by the tank admittedly reaching in touching the water as the tray was almost fully submerged and not attached to the side tank as it normally is. I have gone to other petcos and have picked up the bamboo without really needing help of a worker so I thought it would be fine to serve myself. I was wrong and rudely corrected. A young man who's name I didn't get watched me pick out my plants and waited until I was done to ask if " I needed help". I replied with "no thank you" as I had already helped myself and I was confused because he had watched me do it. He then responded with "don't touch the water" with a blank stare. I was surprised by his comment and tone as he had the chance to correct us the moment we touched the water but never did , and my mother was too so she suggested they put up a sign (not necessarily him). The young man responded with "no" and " I don't because I've only had that problem with you guys". I admittedly got agitated and raised my voice after he began bickering and acting rude towards my mother, I told him to stop and that he shouldn't have to wait 5 minutes to go by to tell us not to touch the plants or water. Keep in mind he was watching us the whole time and decided to not say a word, offer any help. Seems like he was growing a pair in those 5 minutes just to correct us about touching some plants in a tank with no fish. Young man will have a hard life if he thinks that he can talk to people like that. I came in happy as I love going to petco and was left shaking after being so confused as to what the hell happened and why that young man was acting rudely towards us. I hate to be a Karen by writing a review but I'm just stunned at how people are treating others. I didn't get his name but I can describe him for anyone who has a similar encounter with him: Caucasian, Justin Bieber haircut, kind of hunched . If I can I'll try to get his name the next time I'm there. Awful to see how much frustration and anger people are holding nowadays. Worst. Groomers. Ever. I just moved to the area from Santa Clara. Usually we go to the Santa Clara Petco groomers who are fantastic. Due to the positive Novato Petco reviews, I thought I would give Novato a try. I also work close by so the location was convenient. I booked my online appointment for 8/20 at 11:00 am on 8/4 (more than two weeks in advance). A week before the appointment, Melissa left a message they could not honor the appointment because they are closed that day. That's fine. My dog was rescheduled to Thursday at 10:30 am. A day before the rescheduled appointment, they had to reschedule my appointment again to the afternoon. This was irritating because I had to juggle my work schedule around this grooming appointment. I figured that's fine, they are busy because they are skilled at what they do. Well, I show up to the appointment with my dog. It took about 15 mins to check in because there was another customer ahead of me. I specifically heard Carolina tell the customer in front of me that their dog will be done in about 1-1.5 hours. Then, when it came my turn, I asked the same question and all of a sudden, the answer was 3.5-4 hours. I gave Carolina instructions to keep the head round and fluffy, but ok to cut the body hair short. Then I went back to work, which I was late to because the check in process took longer than usual. At work, I remembered that I forgot to request anal gland expression. So I tried calling them, but no answer. Finally I decided to run over there to tell them. So I went back to tell my groomer. She said they always do it. I saw my dog shaking on the grooming table but did not want to disrupt the groomer. I left. A couple more hours go by, and I am wondering why it is now 6:00 pm and still no phone call from Petco. It has been 4 hours!! At 6:09 pm, I finally get a call that my dog is ready for pick up. Upon arriving I see that my dog' head has been reduced to that of a chihuahua. They totally ignored my instructions on keeping the head round and fluffy. Upon close examination, the hair around her mouth was bloody. Also there was dried blood caked into the hair of her left ear. The groomer comes out and says oh I need to show you something. Your dog was excited to see you when you came back to the store to remind us of the anal gland expression that she wiggled and her elbow was cut. Way to play the blame game. She gave me a bottle of Vetericyn to put on the cut. While I appreciate she owned up to what she did and apologized, it infuriates me how deep and wide the flesh was cut from my dog's left elbow. I have gotten more angry as days have gone by and the scab just won't heal because the cut was so large. This elbow area is difficult to heal because every time she walks or jumps the wound opens again. I took my dog into SPCA hospital and they gave her a cone. Now she has to wear this cone for two-three weeks. She is a completely different dog now with that cone: depressed. Novato Petco groomers are not only incompetent at scheduling, but also incompetent at grooming! read more

The Petco vintage Oaks in Novato is excellent. They seem a bit more organized than the San Rafael store. Doesn't seem as cluttered. The staff is much more friendly and supportive of its customers. My special Angel Katrina and I recommend this Petco over to San Rafael Petco at Montecito. The Petco in Novato was very helpful when we selected are fish for our tanks. Joey, a loving 7 year old Shih Tzu, went in for a grooming perfectly active and 100% healthy, was groomed by Amanda, and left with a dislocated right hip. When asking both Amanda and the Assistant Manager on duty what happened, no explanation could be given and nobody knew what had happened. Everyone knows that you simply don't go in for a haircut and come out with a dislocated hip! Joey has had several procedures since his last grooming at Petco, including a closed hip reduction (which after weeks of carrying him around was not successful) and eventually major hip surgery, Femoral Head Ostectomy (FHO), and he is just not the same dog. Filed incident report with Assistant Manager on duty immediately after discovering his injury, which Petco "investigated and doesn't know what happened." For a company that claims to love pets I do not understand how this can happen. I will continue to speak for Joey and I will not give up until Petco comes forth. Please, do some research on this company and do not even think about taking your beloved companion to Petco. read more

I picked up my dog today at Petaluma Petco and gave them a check my wife wrote. They told me the check was insufficient and the I owed an addtl $15.72 I gasped and said the price for years was $57. No one said there was a price increase when I dropped him off and they told me they had a price increase. I believe they should have informed me of the increase so that if I was opposed to the huge increase I could take him elsewhere. The grooming manager told me she transferred from the east coast and that I signed for it. They gave me 3 letter size sheets to initial as my approval. Not wanted to read the legalese I initialed the dozen or so places. The groomer did a very good job but I told them that due to their improper fee increase method that I will no longer bring my dog there. I told them I would make a post on social media which maddened the mgr saying why would you try to ruin my business because she has bills to pay. read more
