Wonderful groomers, but they cancelled me after using Petco for years (different locations) when I arrived due to my dog being on medications. He's been there twice before. He is only 5, and he's been on meds (proin and allergy pills) for over four years. They've always allowed him and this time sent me away. I understand that Petco's insurance probably doesn't want any extra liability, but this is ridiculous. Very disappointing. Shame on Petco. read more

Walked into this store not knowing anything about dogs. Lou was very helpful and spent a lot of time explaining everything I needed to know for my puppy. She even signed us up the petco club to receive coupons. She spent a good amount of time answering my questions, and all the services the store offers. She even talked to me about feeding my dog a better healthy food. Thank you Lou! I will be definitely be going back to PetCo! read more

Avoid! Once again the kids who work here are lazy and incompetent! When you ask a customer service rep on yhe floor for help, and she doesn't even look at you and points and says over by the birds and continues on, that's crap service, and that what we seem to get when we go there! Had an issue before and the owner tried to fix it, but it's not her fault the kids who work there are an embarrassment to workers everywhere! Nothing pisses a customer off more than a worker brushing them off! Wish the San luis store didn't close. The workers there always took time to make you feel welcome. Just irritated having to go there when we know we will get no help or get treated bad! read more

This Paso Robles Petco is the worst location I have ever been to. They have lost my business for good. I just relocated from Fresno where I have been getting my four dogs groomed and buying pet supplies for years - so naturally I call the Paso Robles Petco to make an appt. for my oldest dig for bath, haircut and nail clipping. They pull my records up and ask which dog and make the appt.. however, when I get there they tell me they won't groom my dog because she's too old. They don't groom any dogs over the age of 8. Which I watched dogs older than 8 get picked up while I waited so I know that isn't true - nor did the manager come up front she had her staff tell me. Well first off all IF that is your policy - state that when making appointments over the phone. Everyone who calls in should be asked the age of their dog. Not only will I never bring any of the four dogs I own or any future dogs I adopt - I will not purchase anything from Petco ever again. My dog is healthy - she is old - but she's heathy. It's ageism and RUDE to have me drive all the way over there just to say No they won't groom her After I get there. read more

I took my two Dobermans in yesterday for nail trim which usually done by my vet . I was a little Leary but to my surprise , I was very impressed . I had explained that one nips and that she may need a muzzle after meeting the dog she said she would be fine and to my AMAZEMENT they both did Great especially being the 1st time being done with buffer and not done out of my site , they were done much better than my vet and were not traumatized My vet usually takes her to a seperate room and my dog comes back terrified , leaving me wondering the method used and my wife being upset that the nails are still long We will be back hoping the female who did her nails does not leave any time soon!! She was great with my pets !!! read more

I frequent Petco and every time I swear it will be the last time I go to this store and patronize this company. Today was it - in the middle of prime afternoon business hours, some idiot determined it was time to rearrange the placement of cat food and, for no good reason, products should be shuffled to different shelf locations within the same section. So many of the cans and bags of cat food where dumped into shopping carts. Mind you, Petco is NOT refreshing the store or remodeling. It is not changing the traffic flow or swapping specific pet locations - dogs for cats or cats for dog placement. The only thing worse than hunting and pecking though the shopping carts for the products I wanted, was the employee attitude. Petco #YouSuck No wonder your business model continues to erode and soon, I predict, you will be just another retail store out of business. I think online subscription ordering is the way to go. read more

This PetCo is my favorite one I've ever been to. We recently relocated from Huntington Beach to Templeton. I found some stray kittens near our property and was able to catch them and bring them home. I haven't owned a kitten in 20 years. The manager, Teri, was terrific. She spent a ton of time with me, recommending products and suggesting different foods. She walked me through the store and helped me get everything I needed. She even introduced me to the rescue organization to coordinate finding new homes for the kittens. She really went above the call of duty. I have been back two more times since then (for more kitty stuff) and both experiences were just as good. The floor staff is very helpful and friendly. High recommend! This will be my go-to place when needing anything for my animal. read more

This store is gross... It smells like urine when you walk in the door it's so strong, they have some other fragrance in the store trying to cover it up instead of cleaning. I have a puppy that I won't take to this store because of how unsanitary everything seems to be. I think they really need to focus on cleanliness and sanitation in this store. read more

The only reason I am giving a 1 star review is not because of Petco itself, it is because of the assistant manager Paulette. When I walked in line to check out, there were two people in front of me and one of the new employees who had just started was on the cashier by herself. Paulette was just giving a dog a treat in line and ignoring the customers who were behind her. She then proceeded to walk away and go talk to people looking at the cats. The poor girl up front pages people to come up to help her and no one comes up for ten minutes. Meanwhile, I see Paulette peak her head over and notice there is a long line and walked away. When I get to the front I tell the young girl who is the cashier that someone really needs to come up to help her and she tells me that she didn't know why her assistant manager looked and then just walked away. After I check out, I walk and try to find someone and found an employee named Ashley and she rushed up to help the girl at the front. I also told Ashley that the assistant manager walked away. I called the store and spoke with Paulette and let her know that she should have been helping the girl up front and she replied saying she was "helping customers with hermit crabs". Honestly, I am not sure why this woman is an assistant manager. She left the new cashier up front by herself which was terrible. End of rant and I hope she reads this. read more

Has been out of stock of the food I get multiple times. Employee wont get manager to comp value for expensive smaller bags when the bigger bags were out of stock. A value of $6 they wont comp. The same cashier is always there, always talking way too much with the customers. I had to wait for him to finish his conversations multiple visits. One time I waited 10 mins and I was litterly next in line with one item! Horrible customer service, never have food correctly stock, wont price match. read more

I called to schedule a grooming and nail trimming for a new puppy that we are getting. After waiting 10 minutes on the phone with an employee I never got any real help. Sad to see that the lady who answered the phone had no clue what she was doing. She had to keep checking with someone else for simple answers like can I schedule my dog to come in. The associate seemed very confused by any question you asked and makes me not want to go there. I will be happy to update this review next time I actually go into the store rather than try and talk to somebody on the phone who can help you. read more

This Petco recently moved across the parking lot, closer to Target, into a much larger store. It's very new feeling, nicely set up, and they have more product. They also have a few cats for adoption thru a local humane society or rescue group, along with the smaller pets they've always had - mice, hamsters, guinea pigs, fish, birds, reptiles, etc. And they have salt water fish! Which I don't think they had at their last location. Honestly, I try to buy my dog and cat food from Amazon, but if I run out or forget to order, I come here for non generic pet food. Their prices are pretty on point with other pet stores in town, and often times they have better sales then the smaller, locally owned stores. (I know, supporting local business is great, but pet food/product can get pretty costly, so I have to take any savings I can get.) Other then fish, which were fine, I can't attest to the health of their animals, as I've never purchased one from Petco. I've also never used their grooming service for a pet, so I can't review that either. Overall their new location seems a lot newer, nicer, and to carry more product, so if you've written them off in the past, you might want to visit them in their new location - at least to check it out. read more

I have taken my dog twice to get groomed since they moved location. Both times i got the mini makerover. It suppose to include nail trim, teeth brushing, ear cleaning and a 15 minute brush out. Neither time did he receive all of it. This time the didn't do his ears or all of his nails. I will not be getting grooming done there anymore. read more

I'm iffy about this store. My boyfriend and I just got our bearded dragon from here. From their responses to my questions I felt as though I knew more about bearded dragons than them from doing maybe a week of research. There were a lot of bearded dragons in the very small case. The humidity in the tank was upwards of 80% and it was dimly lit. They don't have much option in live food that's for sure. Just mealworms and crickets. Most of the mealworms are dead and you're not even supposed to feed a juvenile mealworms in the first place. When we took our beardie home he was very lethargic. He just laid in the cage, flat, and closed his eyes. I got really worried so I gave him a soak in some warm water. After that, he completely perked up. And on top of that he shed a lot of skin. It seems as though he had been totally dehydrated. The only reason I'm really glad I bought him is so that I could rescue him from potentially passing away there. The employees here are nice with good intentions, but I'm just going to stick to buying things online and at local pet stores. They seem to know more about what they sell. Update: We took our bearded dragon to the vet and it turned out he had parasites. The vet said it was extremely likely due to the fact that they aren't properly housed here. Be prepared to spend money on vet visits and medicine if you get an animal from here. read more

This is the worst store of all the Pet Co stores I've been to. They are ALWAYS out of products. When I asked why, they said they are sent only a few of the items I give my dogs. How ridiculous is that. Actually the old store was much better, they always had a full selection, this store has gone down hill. Today they were out of all my dogs foods, the store smelled terribly and it was only 10 AM. Every time I've said anything about how inconvenient it is for me to have to drive back and forth for nothing, the checkers just don't care. Seems to have a management problem. Several months ago asked if they had water kongs, no, can you order them, no, we will have them when summer comes,interesting. The standard answer whenever they are out of anything is that shipments come in on Thursday however they never know if what you are looking for is in the shipment. Today, a Saturday, they were out of so many types of premium dog foods it was amazing and of course the shipment comes Thursday. I shop in many a Petco but this one is a messco! read more

We took our golden retriever to petco and it was overpriced. So they gave him a bath and when he came home he had matted hair on his stomach, his tail was not brushed out at all, and there was a big tick on his eye. I will not be going back there anytime soon. read more

Well stocked Petco location with an AWESOME fish staff. (They are humans, not fish). I am a goldfish fan and recently went to buy one for my daughter. The woman in the fish department was about as passionate about goldfish as I am (which is a bit scary, but hey, she's the one who works at Petco, it's a good thing). I took my anxious older dog to be groomed at Petco this past week. The groomer Jessica did an outstanding job. She really took the time to listen to exactly what I wanted for my dog and she was very patient with him. He only had to spend 3 hours there and was not locked in a kennel. I took back a $75 bark collar, that hadn't been opened & I had a receipt. I was told by the Rep that I could only get store credit. When I asked whether that was a store policy or company policy, she told me it was a company policy. I refused to get the gift card since I will no longer shop there. Today I stopped by the PETCO in Arroyo Grande, & I was given a full refund without any questions asked. Do not shop at the PR store! I grew up in Paso Robles, so when I was on my way to move cross country, I decided to bring in my dog to get his nails buffed. At first, the ladies seemed very nice and we explained that my dog typically had a hard time getting use to nail buffing. The Petco in San Diego has kindly worked with my dog and he's improved so much that we owe it to the staff. After explaining this to the staff (and I'm sure they read the other chain's notes on the computer), the young lady replied that she understood. My husband even added that the staff got it down to one person to buff the nail and the other staff member would hug him . Soon after, my husband and I could see that she was visible scared and did not want us to put on his muzzle to calm him down for nail buffing and invasive pet exams. After handing the muzzle to her and walking to the main store, we could hear our dog yelping. As this is what my dog would initially and sometimes do with nail buffing, we knew it was going to be a problem. I offered to the staff that they could either stop and or have us hold him, but she ignored me and then replied, "she will hold him." I then walked away and waited. After getting my dog back, the young lady said that next time they will have to charge me extra for handling or to quit the service as she said my dog was trying to nip the other lady holding his head. I complied and let her know that was what I was talking about and that I offered to have them stop and or help. The young lady then continued to offer me advice "play with my dogs nails everyday and use loud noises with him." She then looked at my younger puppy and said, "you should probably do the same thing with her." Uhhh, what?? I guess she didn't pay attention to what we were saying. I didn't care for her wise advice but I still tipped her $10. Won't be coming back here again. read more

I took my dog here in the morning to get her nails and hair trimmed, teeth brushed and a bath. I was very satisfied!!! My puppy looked amazing. I do not know the groomers name but she had a southern accent. I would definitely have her groom my puppy again! She was very caring and knew what to do. :) read more

Sometime in early January 2017, I drove quickly by the Target shopping center & I noticed, with sadness, that the Petco store was vacant. Because that was *ALL* I saw there, & with NO SIGNS posted indicating that this store had simply relocated, I naturally assumed that Petco had permanently closed - just like so many other businesses have recently done in the "North County " area. After doing a little reasearch, I was very happy to learn that Petco is still open for business, having simply relocated within the same shopping center. It's very reassuring to learn of such positive business news, for once! Petco is a great store, with friendly, courteous & helpful employees, & I am relieved to learn that this particular Petco is still very much a part of the North County community. read more
