This facility has been taking care of my dogs for years and I cannot recommend it enough. I travel a lot, both for work and pleasure, and don't have family in the area so it's very important to me that I have a reliable, responsible, and trustworthy facility to take care of my dogs. Mary Kay has always been wonderful. She takes a personal and vested interest in the wellbeing of my babies and communicates frequently. This last 4th of July I was going to be out of town and leaving my dogs for the first time. They are terrified of fireworks and I too was terrified to leave them. I mentioned to Mary Kay that I was nervous and she immediately responded with a long, detailed and empathetic email addressing all of the ways they handled the dogs on the fourth to make sure they were comfortable, including having loud fans and putting on talk radio for the dogs. I greatly appreciated her long and thoughtful response and the actions they took to make the dogs comfortable. All of the other staff at this location have always been friendly, attentive and responsible. I have left my dogs here for weeks at a time and they are always happy and healthy when I pick them up. My dogs are also jumpers and diggers and the staff pays special attention to these concerns and put them in the jump proof play yard. The facility is wonderful, the staff is great, their prices are fair and I wouldn't board anywhere else. This review is a few years old (2021), but I am surprised there are not more reviews mentioning kennel cough or canine flu, so here goes. My younger dog came home from Rocky Canyon with kennel cough and then gave it to my senior dog, who nearly died from it. When I called the kennel to say that she had kennel cough, I thought the owners would be concerned and surprised. Instead, I was told that, yes, they had been hearing that from a few owners who'd boarded their dogs there recently. What?! Shouldn't we have at the very least been notified? I know that infectious diseases are a risk of group boarding, but I was so surprised by the kennel's blasé attitude. It cost me at least a thousand in emergency pet bills and, thankfully, didn't result in the loss of my senior dog. We have not returned. read more

We have used both their Day Care and Boarding services. The staff have always been very accommodating and friendly. Bailey gets very excited when we pull in so I know she's happy here. For $25/night and $15/day care you can't beat It! I am very picky about my dog because she's my service dog and my life hangs on her health and happiness. There are times when it's just not feasible to have her with me (taking the niece to the water park for instance) knowing she has a safe place that makes her happy means everything to me. read more

I am giving a two-star rating because my dogs were safe for the three days I left them. I have used Rocky Canyon Kennels twice now, and both times I thought there's got to be a better alternative. Due to their short opening window, it is chaos when dropping off or picking up. Additionally, owners are not allowed to see where the dogs are housed. This scenario concerned me the first time, but I gave Rocky Canyon another try. On Saturday, when I picked up my dogs, they forgot to return two bowls. I communicated with the owner, and she said the bowls would be left out on Thursday for me to pick up on my way to the airport. Unfortunately, I do not reside near the kennel, so every trip there is a hassle. I stopped by on Thursday afternoon and there were no bowls. I texted. No response. I sent another text three days later because the owner did not respond to my first inquiry. She explained I was supposed to come by when they were open (two hours in the morning or one hour in the evening). That was not what was initially communicated. The owner did state that she would mail the bowls. However, she never did explain why it took another text from me for her to respond to one I left on Thursday. At this point, I will make other provisions for the bowls that were a part of Jonah's upright feeder. Communication and professionalism are non-negotiable in my world. Therefore, I will be seeking somewhere else to board my furbabies. read more

This place killed my friends dog! My friend left town, thinking that his dog would be cared for and loved and at a minimum at the facility when he returned. They carelessly let the dog out and the dog is now dead. Absolutely inexcusable. DO NOT BRING YOUR PETS HERE! Rocky Canyon Kennels is my first choice when selecting somewhere for my pup to stay while we are away. I originally began using them for Doggie Daycare 2 years ago and took my dog there everyday for months with no issues. He absolutely loves going and is always tired out and happy when he comes home. He can be a bit high maintenance- he is an escape artist and a jumper- and even before they had their second location on Asuncion with covered runs they made adjustments for him so that he could still come and safely hang out. As far as allegations of breed discrimination, we have never had an issue as our dog is a blue nose pit mix. There were also always other pits there and they were playing and socializing with other dogs their same size as well. All in all, great place- I'm so bummed that I waited too long to get in for Thanksgiving boarding :( read more

Love love love this place. Not only does every dog look like they are having the time of their lives (regardless of how much they love their owner), it's like a home away from home! There are so many opportunities for these dogs to be socialized and if they aren't that social the employees make sure to spend some extra time with the animals so they have enough attention and feel loved while your gone. Also, it's great that they have vet tech experience on staff in case your animal is on medications or needs some extra medical attention while they are there during their boarding or even daycare. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who needs to go out of town and can't find anyone to tend to their furry loved ones or even just for weekly trips for daycare! read more

Dropped off my little indoor poodle for a few days because my house sitter was booked. Was picked up with fleas and kennel cough. Contacted owner who sugarcoated everything about my dogs condition and bragged about how there have NEVER been a complaint of kennel cough there or fleas! She needs my vet to explain everything to me, she says. Our dog loves to play and stay! Because of the wonderful staff, nice facilities and fun playmates at Rocky Canyon Kennels, our dog has a blast every time he goes there. We initially took our pup here for socialization and to burn off some puppy energy. It worked out so well for us that for the last 3+ years, our dog has been going to Rocky Canyon for daycare during the work week and occasionally for boarding on weekends. At doggy daycare our dog has a regular pack he plays with, even has a best buddy or two that he really gets excited to play with or just to lie with in the shade under a tree. That's just not something I can provide at home. The dogs play, have a snack, take a nap, and then play some more! The best part about the kennel is the staff. They really love dogs. Heck, they have even boarded my cat too. When our dog is at the kennel I know he's safe and secure. Doggy daycare removes the risk of our dog getting out because someone leaves a gate or door open at home while we're at work, there's no risk of him being exposed to hot summer summer or cold winter temps, and it avoids the dusty/muddy mess our dog makes coming in and our the dog-door. I've been taking my baby to RCK for 5+ years and I will not take my family member any place else. When I drive up, she hops out of the car (off leash) and anxiously waits at the gate for someone to hurry up and let her in! When the gate opens, she's gone, without even a glance tossed in my direction. It hurts my feelings, almost... Oh well, she's obviously happy and that means she won't miss mommy. P.S. I was told right off the bat that he would not be socialized based on his breed alone, when I called to make a reservation. They didn't bother to meet or assess him on arrival. Complete blatant breed DISCRIMINATION. Had an appointment with them to tour one of their facilities at specific time. It was the one out towards Santa Margarita, I couldn't find it so I called and got their voicemail stating i couldn't find it and for them to please call me back cause I didn't want to miss my appointment. I even had the address on google map and it led me to a pasture!!! I marked the message urgent. I also emailed them. This was on Monday (2/15/16). I stated that I couldn't find the facility and that I didn't just blow off the appointment. Never heard back from them. So I emailed them again this morning which is Wednesday 2/17 and still haven't heard back. My husband and I had a family emergency and we had traveled 6 hours to get there and needed to drop off our dog last minute. I sent an email to the facility and they called me back right away. I explained my situation and told me I could drop him off when they opened. They also said that if I needed to drop him off sooner I could take him to this other facility that they recommend. We had never kenneled our dogs before and were unsure of how it would go as both of our dogs are on the nervous side. I could not be happier with our experience here. Both of our dogs were treated wonderful and we were treated just as well. The staff and owner were aware of not only our dogs nervousness but mine as well. They went above and beyond to make sure both our dogs were happy. They also made sure to let us know how our dogs were doing so that we were at ease and able to enjoy our vacation knowing our dogs were being well taken cared of and loved. We've left our 2 dogs (golden and a black lab) with Rocky Canyon Kennels (near Santa Margarita) about a dozen times now - we love it. For starters, it's super easy to schedule your dogs for their stay and most importantly, they definitely care about taking care of them. We were gone for 18 days internationally and we felt so assured having our pups at Rocky Canyon. Boarded my Dutch Shepherd here while I was visiting family in the area. I notified the kennel that he was not friendly with other animals and they said no problem!
