Worst groomers ever!!!!! We took our dog to be groomed, and when we got him home afterwards we found 15 ticks on him!!! I don't believe he got the ticks from Petco, but the fact that the groomer couldn't even see the ticks or inform us of that is astounding. Also not safe that they don't inspect well enough to protect other dogs!! And not to mention that he still had dirt caked on his feet and a matt behind his ear. Extremely disappointed and will not be taking him back again. read more

Ive been bringing my dog here for about a year. This is what I've noticed about this specific location in Petaluma. The groomer turnover is ridiculous. Every single time I have brought in my pup and requested the same groomer as last time, they have always said..."so and so doesn't work here anymore" So what that means is that I have to "re-educate" every groomer EVERY single time on the specifics of my dog's needs. On this last visit, I had made an online appointment. I showed up on time and the groomer who was suppose to groom my dog, had not shown up. The snarky groomer with a whole lot of attitude, who was there alone didn't have any idea when this groomer would coming in. She then proceeded to ask me several questions about my dog and I advised her I had brought my dog here for a year and didn't they have these notes ? She then proceeded to tell me that my dogs nails clipping would be an extra $10.00 Why ? I asked. And told her to simply do the same thing the last groomer had done without an additional $10.00. She again displayed her snarky, crappy attitude and at that point I grabbed my dog and walked out in total frustration and with the feeling I had not been treated with the level of customer service i expect from a service professional. I am TOTALLY DONE with Petco. They're clearly having a hell of a time finding decent groomers since the turnover rate is very evident. I'm going to go to a local dog grooming shop that's owner operated so I can get consistency and the satisfaction of knowing they'll know what I want for my dog on every visit. read more

My dog had a grooming appointment at 8am and we were there right on time . Just to find the doors closed . The grooming room lights were turned off and no one was there. This is actually PetCo. Whoever Ann was, wish she'd return. The store is your typical generic PetCo, but the fish dept. is bordering on the bizarre. They've piped in aquatic sounds to make you feel like you're next to the sea, but they have NO knowledgeable fish people that I've been able to find in the several visits I've made. The fish dept is also generally unattended, and you have to stalk a staff member to get help. The place is dreary and understaffed, and they don't have much selection unless you are looking for dog treats. read more

I am continually disappointed in the customer service at this location. Today, I went to this store (as opposed to the pet store across the street with lower prices on higher quality food) to buy cheap junk cat food for our super picky cat. The other pet store I frequent does not carry the low quality food that our cat will eat. While there, I wanted to pick up a small bag (5ish pounds) of a certain food for my dog. I wanted a small bag because it is significantly cheaper across the street (both parking lots are insane and I didn't want to venture into the other today). When they had a space for the food I wanted that was occupied by the puppy version, I asked a near by clerk if they had the product I was looking for. Without looking up, with zero interest in helping a customer, she said they didn't have a slot for e food I was looking for (despite there clearly being a label for it. Had she looked, she would have seen the same thing). At check out, I asked the clerk about the same food. With no one else in line, she said I could call in tomorrow and ask someone if they had it. Ummm... Hello?? You are standing at a computer. You have a manager in the store. You can't find someone to check for me now?? So, we will go to the other, lower priced store tomorrow, where the clerks actually help their customers and are happy to answer questions about what they have in stock, as well as any other pet related question you have. read more

I used to shop at this PetCo all the freaking time, often just stopping by if I was at another Plaza store just to see if they had any new little toys my pets might enjoy. That was before the remodel. Their formerly-wide range of cat toys is now a single side of one stand, at most 10% of what it once was. Even worse, the whole store has reeked of cloying cheap cologne ever since, to the point that I end up headachy and sick to my stomach within a few breaths. Regardless of where it's coming from, they need to do something about it, if only for the sake of the poor cats waiting to be adopted. Until they do, I'm definitely not spending my money there again. read more

I highly reccomend the dog training program at Petco. Kelly is the trainer and she is AMAZING! We have a 7 month old puppy who now knows tons of commands and is well mannered when she meets people. We purchased the "whole" package of sessions (which is proving to be well worth the extra money) and we are not even finished with the lessons and I am already highly satisfied with the results Kelly has gotten with our dog. On a side note, the staff (who you get to know well because you come in weekly) are kind, courteous, and helpful. read more

I really wish they did not sell small animals and just stuck to fish. I feel sorry for all the Guinea pigs they sell that live in tiny cages. I often see GPs with torn ears and looking like they came from breeder mills, but I would expect that from a big box. Go to your local feed store and buy local. Aww such harsh reviews :( I have no clue how they treat their animals (rodents, fish, etc) so I can't say much about that. But this place as a huge leg up over Petsmart because they sell holistic pet food (Wellness, Natural Balance, Avoderm, etc). I love them for that. I was unable to find it in there store, I was not greeted as I entered the store, I ran into another employee that was moving feed and he did not ask if I needed help, so I walked out and passed the cashier who said nothing! Recently, I returned to Petco to pick up some things for my aquarium, and I was pleasantly surprised by the wide selection of both fish and supplies, but that's about it. I took my baby poodle to get groomed at Petco for the first time. HORRIBLE Mistake. I showed the lady at the reception desk a picture of how I wanted my puppy groomed. she was very rude and short with me for no reason, but assured me she could do the style I had shown her. We dropped off our dog for about 3 hours before they called us to come pick her up. When we got her back, she didn't even look like the same dog we had dropped off. They had shaved her all the way down to where she basically had no more fur on her. This was NO WHERE NEAR the picture we had shown the lady. We were furious! We left Petco very upset with this outcome. To top it all off, when we got home, we noticed they had cut her TWICE, on both sides of her nose. She was bleeding from both sides of her nose and could not stop scratching the cuts that they had made on my poor dog! Avoid Petco Grooming at ALL COSTS! I am writing this review in order to protect all the helpless dogs that will get treated poorly and cut on their face here. This was by far the WORST experience we have had. My poor puppy won't stop scratching her scabs and crying because they won't stop bleeding. This place is horrible! read more

Will not go back . Took my moms dog to be groomed and got a call close to 3 hours later . Said they bathed her and she was too stressed to do her Haircut, nails etc . It appears they overbooked and since her Haircut was the most involved they just chose to not do it . She was just bathed 2 weeks ago and initially were going to charge for the bath but after I walked to cashier they came out and told me they wouldn't charge us - that is why I gave them 1 star. Be aware they are overbooking and should have a sign up we can not accommodate old dogs who need a grooming . read more

Customer should be treated with kindness and respect rather than be treated as dumb and irritating. When walking into the store where three employees were gathered, they all started to walk away rather than ask if I needed help. I bought betta fish here. Expensive ones, $20 petal tail bettas. They died. Petco tested my water, which was found to be "ideal" and they replaced my fish. Which also have since died. None have lasted longer than 5 days. All have had issues with buoyancy, which progressively got worse until they died. When looking for replacement fish, many of PetCos bettas were either dead, or sickly looking. I've previously had bettas, which kept for years without issue. Won't be returning to PetCo when looking for expensive bettas. read more

I brought my dog in for a grooming and expect to good service since i used to bring my old dog in. The lady said they'll be done in 3 hours which was ridiculously long but whatever. I came in to pick her up and they told me the groomer that worked on her could not handle the dog. My dog is about 12 pounds so i was kinda surprised. She only gave my dog a bath and claimed they tried to call me but i never received any call. Obvious lie. They had the balls to charge me for the hair cut which my dog clearly never got. I refused to pay for a service i did not receive. Never going back there for anything. If you cant handle a small dog then maybe go find a different career. Petco is garbage. read more

WORST dog groomers EVER! I brought my dog in for a grooming. I left him with his saddle harness and leash. When I returned, they told me I was lying and I didn't leave a leash. First of all, I asked if I can get fish, and they apparently called someone up but it took them 40 minutes so that I can get my fish, I was so frustrated and angry because I had to be somewhere and what was worse was that the guy that was helping me was telling me that I can only get 3 fish for my tank BUTT I had a huge tank with no fish in it, so I don't understand why I couldn't get more, never will I go to Petco again, they have bad customer service, and don't know how to do their job, absolutely never again, fuck you to whoever didn't get me the fish read more

I bought a pair of grooming clippers from this Petco for $80 bucks and used them 3 times and even thought the purchase was in my transaction history online, the store whouldn't let me exchange them. Not return them but just exchange them. This is terrible customer service and will not return. Do yourself a favor and go to the Pet Smart near the Target that just opened up. read more

NEVER AGAIN!!!!! I will never return to this store. I toke my 2 year old chi into be groomed, and when I picked him up you could tell he had a horrible experience! I wish I would have read the reviews and would have never gone there. the groomer Amanda acted like she hated dogs. after I had left I noted there was BLOOD ON HIS PAW! they had used dull clippers because his nails were cut way too short causing him to bleed. the other nails were jagged and sharp. My dog growled when I even tried to touch him, and hes normally a lap dog. when I called to complain, l spoke to the grooming manager, she said his paws were like that because I didn't order the right service! she was rude and didn't seem to care that her staff wasn't doing their job correctly. local groomers are much cheaper and actually care about your pet read more

I was in the store ready to buy but had one question. There was no one to help. One staff member working with a customer in the dog training area suggested I let them know up front so they could call someone to help. So I did. Did anyone come? NO! Scruffy is a Rat Terrier who arrived at my door already with that name! It is very appropriate, too. He has the ugliest coat I've ever seen, three distinct layers (different colors) with the longest really feeling like wire, and growing unevenly off his sides like hairy wings. After his trip to The Petco dog salon, he comes back to me a silky platinum happy dog, with his undercoat revealing his "true colors". He must enjoy the groomers because he never complains, either. read more

Unfortunately, there's not much choice about where to buy pet food these days around here, and I too shop at PetCo in East Petaluma. And I get the exact level of service I expect from a Big Box Store. In my experience, although not very knowledgeable, the kids at PetCo are actually quite pleasant. But then, I'm not barking at them and demanding eye contact while I speak, either. It's one or the other, folks - great service or low prices. Come on, do you really expect some 18-year-old who's working for muffin money while attending the local Junior College to give a darn which brand cat food your "picky" cat likes to eat? I'm really shocked by the reviews I've read. If people expected top-notch customer service, they should not have allowed giant box stores like PetCo put all the smaller "Mom & Pop" stores out of business. In the past 5 years, every small pet store in the area (that I knew of) has gone under - maybe because people were too lazy to patronize those smaller stores with the great service (and yes, higher prices too), or maybe it was because they didn't want to face the trauma of finding 2 parking spots in a single day??? read more

Wow, this store feels like K-Mart with higher prices. The parakeet food I was looking for that was on sale was out of stock. The prices didn't ring up correctly on the cans of cat food I purchased and the manager could have cared less. I only shopped here because I had an online coupon that I received, which helped on the price of the Science Diet cat food I was purchasing. I will not make this mistake again. Believe me, Rivertown Feed & Pet Store has better prices, nice and caring employees that stay with them for years and years and the prices ring up correctly at the register. Luckily, I wasn't asked to take the online survey that is written on my receipt. I think the sales lady, Jenny, knew better than to ask me to do it. read more

I am delighted with Petco in Petaluma! Everyone is so professional, friendly and helpful. Cody was wonderful helping me with finding a special kibble for my older dog. Hills Ideal Balance for mature adult dogs is not that easy to find. Made all the difference in the world! KellyAnn, the groomer was also so very helpful! She helped me with my Pomeranian. While petting him, she noticed that his huge coat was matted right down at the skin. She showed me which tool to have and how to use it correctly. I am so grateful because I had no idea he was matted under all that hair! I bought the correct tool and groomed my Pom when I got home. I have a gallon plastic bag of his hair that I will present to her tomorrow! I had an excellent experience here. Everything was well stocked and clean. Petco, thank you!! read more
