For context I had just adopted my Border Collie Sammy around 4 weeks ago. I was very nervous to take him to any groomer as I was unsure of his past and how he would act. After arriving, I was pleasantly greeted by Grace and was made feel very welcome. Everyone in the lobby said hello to Sammy and gave him some pets. They explained the process to me and promptly took him back to get groomed. The whole process took around an hour or so, and he came out smelling and looking great! And lastly, the pricing was great! I spent around $100 total for their basic hygiene which includes a bath, nail trim, teeth brushing, and ear cleaning. I also added on a full blow-out as he sheds quite a lot! I felt I got great service for my money and was happy. Overall, I would definitely take your best friend to Scenthound Petaluma. They clearly love their job and are about you are your animal. After coming for two years with no issues, in the last six months we've ran into some problems. They started asking for medication to calm her for the appointments, which we did. They are now saying that the meds are not enough. She was dismissed saying she needs a "1-1 mobile groomer" but they can't provide me with any names of recommendations. I'm sad because we had really great experiences for a long time before this but clearly the groomer working now is not as experienced as they had in the last. read more

This experience was a masterclass in a lack of accountability, poor customer service, and how to lose a customer. After cutting my dog's nail too short, causing it to bleed and leaving visible blood in my car--the groomer had the nerve to blame my dog's "temperament." She texted me: "We clip all dogs' nails as short as possible. Due to Ruby's temperament and high energy, she may have grinded the one nail as she was walking on the pavement and it exposed the quick." Let me be clear: my dog was already hurt when we left Scenthound. I had parked right in front--20 steps away at most. If walking that short distance can expose a dog's blood vessels, maybe don't cut their nails so short? Rather than owning up to not knowing exactly what went wrong, they immediately deflected responsibility and blamed her temperament. This is exactly what not to say to a customer whose pet is visibly injured after leaving your business. Yes, they did offer a free groom--but by then, the trust was already gone. The blame-shifting, lack of empathy, and refusal to take responsibility made that offer feel hollow. I would have considered coming back if they had simply shown accountability or expressed genuine concern that something had gone wrong. But instead, they doubled down on blaming my dog. I won't be returning--and if you care about your dog's well-being, or at the very least expect a business to own its mistakes, I strongly suggest you think twice before coming here. Bottom line: they cut my dog's nails too short. read more

Pretty pricey and don't cut hair. Had them do my Pomino twice and didn't smell as good as other places I took her. Claimed she had fleas so they added a flea bath. I've never seen even a single flea on her and she's always on flea prevention. I've bathed her myself many times and never a flea. Suspicious. The place at the OSH site is cheaper and does cut hair but I'm not sure about them. Still want to find a better place. read more

We took our pup to Scenthound for her first grooming/hygiene appointment on Saturday and wow - what an amazing and thorough job they did! We were thrilled when we saw our girl come out of her appointment. I'm obsessed with the bandana that they put on at the end of the service. Soo cute. Also, the price point is extremely reasonable for everything your pup gets. The owner Richard and manager Jacey (Sorry if i misplaced that!) are super nice and welcoming and they make sure to explain all the little details. They also text you half way through the appointment to check in and let you know how it's going and then another text when they're done. We already have our next appointment booked. Your franchise is the most disorganized business I've ever encountered and I own a business. When already a client, staff calling me to come and join, you call to book appointments that have already been booked. You comp a fee, then charged my credit card after being told only for one dog. You don't return calls on time and basically are rude. I will help spread the word to others to find a better groomer in Petaluma. read more

We took our almost 7 month corgi in for his first ever grooming and day of beauty. It was so great from the second we walked in and were greeted warmly and so was our puppy. The services were clearly explained and we felt very comfortable leaving him there. Took about 45 min or so for a wash , cut and blow dry and all of the standard services included in membership. Apparently he was just fine during his appointment and omg he looked adorable when he came out ! The little bandana was a sweet touch. His fur was so soft and the cut was exactly what he needed. So glad they liked him and he liked them since we will be going there for a while ! read more

They are not only able to clip them but to grind them as well. I truly cannot imagine taking my pup anywhere else. They handle my dog with so much care and love. My pup used to be so nervous going into the groomer, now she is excited to go each month. It lets me know she getting great care in their hands. The regular nail grind that's included in the Essentials+ membership has been great to keep her nails at a healthy length to prevent bone damage. I shared that she's been chewing on her paws and they recommended "Paw Balm" they have available in the store. Worked amazingly! But when I got home I realized that his nails were still very long and it didn't look like they were done. Super disappointed. Now I will need to take him somewhere else. My daughter gave me a three month membership. Or three visits, which would include a bath, ear cleaning, teeth brushing, and nails. I made an appointment for yesterday. While making the appointment, they were very insistent that I get a haircut (which he didn't need as he had one a few weeks ago, and a blow dry for 47 dollars more. I declined, we showed up on time, and they would not give him a bath unless I paid $24 for a flea bath and $47 for a blow dry. They assumed he had fleas without even looking at him. They refused any of the treatments unless I paid an additional $71. This is bait and switch, which they don't think is illegal. We left. If they had honored their agreement, I might have been a regular customer and gotten his future haircuts and all grooming done there. For now, I think this place should be avoided. read more

So disappointed. This was our second trip to this Scenthound and the first visit two months ago our pup looked amazing! They asked for photos of what she should look like and came out perfect. Dropped her off today and she was basically shaved! There was no record of how she looked the previous visit, the photos that we had submitted were not on file and they basically said we do not groom by dog type, but by a chosen "hair length" - in this case shaggy mags - which means nothing to us, and our dog should have multiple lengths on her. She came out AFTER we put a tip in the jar, and my husband didn't even know it was her. Practically laughed out loud. Well now we know, if you would like a breed-specific grooming, this is not the place for you. read more

They do a good job with the actual grooming of the dogs. However, the will not take your dog out to relieve themselves which I find odd. I have been twice so far and I'm hoping they settle in and get past the bumps and bruises of new business. The first trip they were extremely neurotic about the dogs being anywhere near each other and the lobby is quite small. The second time there were no other dogs there so that wasn't an issue. The de-shedding treatment I had done the second visit was well done but very expensive. All in all - the jury is still out for me. read more

If you like to be "up charged" for everything then this is your place. A $49.00 grooming bill turns into $100 plus and then they can't even do a simple nail trim. Since when does a simple dog bath not come with drying your pet, but instead they charged me an additional $30 for a "Brush Out & Blow Dry". Would understand if my dog had long hair, but my dog is a short hair dacuhund. Did not ask for this "additional" service. Towell drying would have been fine. It also bothered me that all of the services were done behind a closed door and the shop rules state that dog parents are not allowed behind the door. Who knows what happens (or dosen't happen) behind that door. Don't waste your money on this place. read more
