They have a large selection of canned wet food & broth too. It seems like they've put a lot of effort into this new center display for fresh, organic dog food. Nice staff, but slow check-out service. I ordered online and picked up in-store and it would've been quicker to go in and pick the item up myself. TIP: Stuff online is cheaper than in-store. I ordered hemp oil online for $26 and it was $35 on the shelves. So that's the benefit of in-store pick up!!! I have my dog's nails done every few weeks and have been happy with the grooming staff, especially Tatiana. I pay $21.99 per month for vital care that gives unlimited nail trims and teeth brushing. Trying to use this benefit is a nightmare and I am usually cheated. I don't think the cashiers intend it but Petco makes redeeming the Vital Care benefits very difficult. read more

After have gone to this Petco location more than 2 dozen times in the last 3 months, I am under the firm belife that this location and it's workers are so fortunate it's located in one of the busiest and most successful complexes in the entire state of RI, because if they weren't, the doors would have been permanently closed here a while ago given my experiences and those of past reviews I have read as well. My experiences here are as followed: - My girlfriend and I got our first puppy in September, and we were so excited to bring him here and get a Petco card. After applying for my card, I went around trying to use it at other stores, only to find out the cashier we had entered our rewards card number wrong, and did not add my information to it, so since September, we have been in limbo with my card and information in the system. In this time, we have had trouble having our rewards credited and each location trying to find my info in the system. We have tried fixing it with stores and customer service 4 times to no avail. All because this Cashier at the Providence location rushed and didn't enter info correctly. - This location is exceptionally dirty. We have gone into this location with our dog only to have to pick him up out of fear of him eating pieces or broken plastic on the floor, kibble that is to hard and large for him to chew that leaked out of bags or spilled, and just random toys on the floor. To boot, the amount of times we have found pubbles of dog pee and poop stains on the floor left over is just disgusting. - The staff here is hit or miss. Some of them are nice and we'll informed, but there is a few here that just REALLY sour the experience. Fake smiles, bad attitudes, misinformation on certain puppy related events. We avoid this Petco as much as possible and only go here if we REALLY are in a pinch. I would not recommend this store to anyone. read more

I caution any pet owner to read all of these reviews carefully. There is a reason why their ratings are so low. These types of stores are nothing more than factories, with a neon light. I didn't believe it until I had a terrible first-hand experience and which both my dogs became very ill (vomiting blood) from treats that I had bought at the Providence, RI location. Providence Petco themselves could have cared less, and diverted me to the manufacturer of the item. Of course then the manufacturer blamed Petco for mishandling the item, and we went back and forth for a month and nothing was resolved. I don't think that the company is bad for things like chew toys or dog clothing. They also have fairly standardized pet training. I suggest never buying a pet from this Petco or any Petco. The only benefit to this Petco is that they sell crickets, and they're one of only two places in a 10 mile radius from me. read more

I like Petco. They've got a wide array of foods, toys, and other pet accoutrements that are easy to find and are kept in a mostly clean environment. The staff is usually very friendly and helpful, and what amuses me the most are the pets people bring in to shop with them. They sell a great variety of Fat Cat toys - these are in my opinion (obvi) the best cat toys out there, and my cats go nutso for them. I had a black Moore goldfish for about 4 years. I stopped in to buy some food and supplies, and started talking to an associate about tank mates that could help keep the tank clean. I asked if there were any fish safe to put in the same tank and they confidently reassured me a pleco would be perfect. I returned the pleco the next day because overnight it ate my goldfish's fins and left big red rings on it scales. When returning the pleco I explained what happened, and the associate stated "yeah no they must have been new i don't know why someone would put those together." My fish died the next day. read more

For PET GROOMING: my regular groomer is in the hospital and I needed a quick nail trim. Ran over after work at 4:15. Came in and groomer is already shaking her head no before I even walk in. I ask if there's any chance she can quickly trim my dog's nails, she tells me no, she needs to finish the (almost done) dog she's working on and they're closing at 5. Ok, I can appreciate that it's near the end of the day, but the longest a groomer has ever taken to trim my dog's nails is 5 minutes. It's 4:15 not 4:55. The one and only reason I'm giving this particular Petco location a 4 star rating is because of Bruce, one of the groomers. If it weren't for him, I would have no reason to ever step foot in this dump, but he's wonderful and he knows how to take care of my pooch and her very demanding fur. I met Bruce when I brought my dog in to get her nails trimmed and he fell in love with her instantly; Judy, my dog, is a Shetland Sheepdog and Bruce has a Collie; both breeds are very similar and have practically the same coat. Right off the bat, I asked if I could book an appointment with him to have him groom her and we set it up. I dropped my dog off around 1 in the afteroon and picked her up around 4 p.m. 3 hours is actually an extremely decent time frame, considering other groomers I've taken Judy to, have kept her there for almost 4-5 hours. When I picked my little Judith up, I was THRILLED! She looked absolutely adorable. He gave her a "summer cut" which consisted of trimming down her top and rough undercoat and shaving her belly. She also got a thorough brush out, wash and blow dry. To finish it off; he put the most adorable pink bow on her head. She was SO soft and fluffy and she smelled and looked nice and clean. Bruce is professional and knows what he's doing. If you own a dog that has long, long, long fur and you're looking for a reputable groomer - book with Bruce - you won't be disappointed. read more

I have to say, that *usually* my dog comes back to me looking mostly like how I've described and asked, but the real issue I have is that every. single. time I bring my dog there, she ends up with yeast infections in her ears from moisture getting in there during the bath part. She has floppy ears and I ALWAYS request cotton be placed in her ears to prevent this from happening, but every time we go there, within a few days I'm having to call our vet to get drops to clear her ears up. This is probably one of the busiest Petco's I've seen. I've been to my fair share! This is in that University Shopping Center where there is also a Whole Foods, Boston Market, Staples and McDonalds. Like any other Petco, you would expect to find a nice array of animals including rabbits, hamsters, various types of birds, fish, snakes etc. What really surprised me was that they also had ferrets. This may be the first time that I've seen them. Is that because they're illegal as pets in other states? I would say that the one negative thing about Petco's in general is that their selection of harnesses for bigger dogs is really lacking. Many of their products are geared towards purse dogs and well frankly that doesn't really help those with big dogs. They have a nice array of dog toys which I always manage to purchase before I leave. Remember your Petco club card so that you can reap the rewards! Petco tends to be on the expensive end of pet supplies but they always manage to find their way into convenient shopping locations for their customers! read more

Generally we have a good experience with Petco grooming, for us it's close to home and affordable. But we just found a 1 1/2" cut under our pups ear that was not mentioned to us. I went there to buy a tank and two guppies. The lady working there was incredibly rude (Colleen) and refused to sell us the fish because apparently we needed to have a tank set up before coming in. We were willing to do this but she was extremely rude and wouldn't explain the process of setting the tank up and why it was important. She then proceeded to tell us we needed a minimum of 10 gallons for two tiny guppies. Meanwhile they cram like 30 fish into a 5 gallon tank. I asked if in-fish cycling would be an option, but she didn't answer my question and told us to come back in a month. I went in there willing to spend my money and they were completely unreasonable and unhelpful. Worst staff at a pet store I've ever seen. Hope they go out of business. A Team Member named Colleen approached me and helped sort out any confusion I had about the process. Gave me our prescription card, helped me sign up for the Petco Rewards program and saved me some money on his food! She stopped what she was doing and really took the time to listen and help in every way she could. Just an awful experience. I bring my pup here for grooming when I can't get her in quick enough at the indie place I bring her. Still took me a week to get her in between calls not returned and website issues. I drove out in a snowstorm because she need a groom that bad. It was a harrowing drive. When I get there I have to wait outside because none of the grooming staff are wearing masks. Apparently no one has informed them that they can still give COViD to each other and to animals. After a few minutes the receptionist puts on her mask and checks me in. She asks about medications and I inform her of the new meds since she was last there. Long story short, she turns me away. Too much liability to see a pip with syringomyelia (not that they seem to have heard of it). Would have been nice if they had asked me those questions when booking so I wouldn't lose an hour, risk my safety and lose a week booking somewhere else. It's Petco, so you know they have a ton of stuff, including a decent selection of organic and higher-quality pet foods too. Still, they run out of things...like Frontline. The store is your typical big-box pet store, they have everything you need if you own a dog. However, the grooming salon leaves a lot to be desired. I've been twice, with two groomers, and both times my poodle mix's cut was way overpriced and not done well. Neither time did they trim in between the paw pads or around the groin like I asked, and the most recent time my pup ended up with a major brush burn on her chest - she had to wear the cone of shame for a week!!! I recently dropped off my dog for grooming services, which I was hesitant of doing in the first place. I'm so upset I actually convinced myself to take him here.... Once he was picked up he had an uneven haircut, he had to be taken back so they could attempt to fix it a bit. Once we got home he couldn't stop licking himself and whined when people got close to his belly area. Upon closer inspection we noticed that he had cuts all over his belly and private area. This place does not care about your pets, I have NEVER gotten my dog back with cuts and scratches from any other groomer. If you are going to be working with peoples pets, who are like family members, please be careful and pay attention, otherwise do not go into the field. They feel pain same way humans do. I decided to give Petco a go and Jodie does a WONDERFUL job on my labradoodle. She listens to what I want and does exactly as requested. Jodie is so detail oriented and so good with my dog. Her report cards are more detailed than my vet's lol and the price is very fair. read more

This is a pretty solid Petco. We were looking for something for our Pitbull but didn't quite find the right accessory so we bought the standard yummy treats and new tug toy. At check out I realized the 10% coupon I grabbed expired in August and the cashier called the manager to override the discount, yay! Additionally the mgr brought me a bandaid that I asked for and Neosporin. What a guy!! My only gripe with most Petco's is that they are almost always understaffed. We had to creep outside the employees only room to wait for an associate to help us find what we were looking for. I have to say that my dog (an older puppy/young adult) and I are getting very helpful training at the Main St. Petco. It's a very positive experience and my dog really looks forward to seeing Joy (the trainer) each week. Most importantly, I've learned a lot and I started seeing improvement in my dog's behavior/listening (to me) skills right from the first class. After five weeks, with the weekly class and practicing at home, I'm also starting to see real improvement in her behavior/listening to me while walking out on the streets. read more
