I don't understand why Poochies has low reviews, but I'm glad I had the chance to take my pup here! I was in RI for just the weekend and made last minute appointment with Poochies. I really appreciated the owner for updating me with Louie's picture via text. It took ~2 hours for Louie to be done, and he looked fabulous by the time we picked him up. There was a time when I brought my furry babies to Poochies and wouldn't even consider anyone else. This was the case for decades. I thought they were understanding and considerate of both my pets and my family. Unfortunately, this situation changed dramatically. The last time my husband brought our furry little girl there, he desperately needed to use their bathroom, which he communicated. This can happen to anyone. His pleas to use their bathroom were ignored, while one of the owners was chatting with another person. When he was finally given permission to use the bathroom, his stomach problem was overwhelming. He attempted to clean after himself, but was denied the opportunity to finish. Even worse, one of the owners physically threw our puppy into our car, demanding my husband leave and never return. I truly expected better treatment and hope neither of the owners ever experience what happened to him and our puppy. read more

UPDATE September, 2016- Years later the owner responded to my Yelp review. Apparently he just learned how to use social media. He also created some FAKE REVIEWS (Just days apart, even multiple posts the same day) saying how wonderful the owners are. There FAKE! Anyone who is looking to go here RUN! Look at the negative reviews and how the OWNERS respond. He's nasty, rude and insensitive to any concerns people have. The comments he makes back to people shows how little he cares and is clearly not interested in the business of caring for animals. I would NEVER TRUST this business or this man. Okay So I'm new to the area and I needed somewhere to take my bichon/poodle. All I needed was her nails trimmed. I had her in the car, and I passed this place so I decided to see if they take walk ins. To my surprise they do, AND they trim nails for free. What could be better right...? Wrong. This place should be ashamed of them selves. So the nail trim service is free, great- The male owner took my dog back and as I waited in the front for her- Things were taking a while. I wondered what is taking so long? Well I guess my dog had an accident (#2) while he was trimming her nails. Here is where it gets bad. He comes out with my dog, and said "well she shi* on the table in the back" in front of other customers... I said I am so sorry. He also said, "You going to have to take her home and file them yourself, she wont let me" I said, Ok. Then he told me, AGAIN in front of everyone "She pisse* and shi* back there" again I apologized. (Shes a dog what can I do) Worst Part: He never cleaned her up. He handed her back to me with poo all over her bum, and poo smeared on her tail. The whole back of her was brown... This is how I had to put her in my car. This place is awful, and I would NEVER want anyone to take there dog here. Who cares if they trim nail for free, that's their decision, they shouldn't have returned my dog back to me covered in feces. Terrible. read more

BEWARE: Just had my sheltie groomed and am stunned at how they butchered his fur. They told me they had worked with shelties....ummm....no. The wife said she was going to groom him and clean up the back side but the husband cuts his fur, not her! You NEVER trim the rest of the coat. My daughter was bringing him to performance training and now can't. He looks ridiculous. We're stuck too b/c fur grows in very slowly. The owners are rude, uneducated people. Bill and Denise have been my groomers for years. They are fantastic at what they do and I continue to recommend them to everyone I know.

This guy allows for a quote request on his yelp but when you request one. He rudely replies by saying "I don't speak to yelpers because this site and it's users are scammers. My business has a phone" A simple "Hi sure we have appointments available please give us a call". Would have done fine Hi and bye. What a nice man read more

After a terrible experience at Petco, I was searching for a friendly, convenient, and experienced alternative. On a lark, I walked in with my dog and asked about getting a nail trim. They were able to accommodate us right away, and were so quick and gentle. Bill looked at my dog's nails and opted to file them instead of using clippers. He did an outstanding job, and my dog was comfortable and calm the whole time. What's more, both Bill and Denise are lovely, kind, and compassionate people with an obvious genuine love and rapport with the dogs(and people) they serve. The salon is immaculate, a warm and cheery place. Poochies Pet Salon is fabulous...I can't imagine bringing my dog anywhere else. What a great experience! I am so happy with Poochie's. The owners could not be nicer and it is very clear that they are dedicated to their business. It is always immaculate and orderly. The dogs are happy. They are taken in a certain order so you can be sure of when you'll get your dog back. Billy and Dee really are responsive to phone calls for appointments. Even if you reach them and have to leave a message, they get back to you promptly. Above all, my dog looks beautiful when I get him back. And he doesn't seem to shake on the way in, as he does when I have taken him elsewhere. So so impressed. Took a chance and brought my beloved terrier mix Maple to Poochies because it is close to my apartment and it isn't Petco. Two hours later Maple was ready to be picked up! They gave her a perfect haircut (even, no nicks) and she smelled great. She didn't seem too traumatized either. This is a small, family run business that has been around for many years. They're not open on Mondays or Tuesdays and they only take cash. They don't seem to take appointments, you just bring your dog in. For my 25 pound dog, a haircut and bath cost $45 (which seems pretty standard to me). So glad I found this place! read more

Giving 3 stars only because they have done a nice grooming for our Havanese. We brought her 2 times and both times she was left in a crate for hours. I called to make an appointment requesting a time when she would not be long in a crate. Bill told me to come on Saturday at 8:30 b/c he had no appointments for that morning. We arrived promptly at 8: 30 only to be told we could pick her about 3-4 hours later. She hurriedly put my dog in a crate. When I said I had made an appointment, Denise started almost yelling, saying there were 5 dogs ahead of us and when I said we have spoken to Bill, she says 'It is MY business" I took my dog and will never go there again. read more

Best hair cut my pup has ever had. I have a cava poo and his fur gets matted very quickly. I have been to three different places already.... this is by far the best and they didn't shame me for not brushing him enough. He was in and out in an hour. They were really friendly, knowledgeable and very funny. read more

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!! My dog received a full dog groom at Poochies East Side, about a month ago, and got a bad cut on his chest. He needed antibiotic shots from the vet the next week after it got infected. The week after he needed wound treatment from the vet to further prevent the infection from spreading. The two trips to the vet cost $650 including the sedation. I was not even told he was cut on his chest an could not see the cut because it was covered by his fur. A week later it became infected, my dog stopped eating, sleeping, and could barely move for a week. It was terrifying. I am writing this review to hopefully prevent another dog from going through a similar experience. read more

I normally love bringing my dog to Poochies. I love how nice the owners usually are and how casual the place in general is, very laid back. However, the most recent time I went, this was not the case. I have a terrier, he likes to play rough, and when he's around other dogs he thinks its go time. Is he vicious? absolutely not. As my dog tried to jump towards another dog, the woman that works there grabbed him, slapped him hard on his side and screamed at him, to the point where he was shaking. I don't think this type of behavior and treatment towards dogs is acceptable. And it makes me sad to think how he was most-likely treated during the two and half hours he was there by himself. On top of this event, when I returned home I noticed a gash on my dog's chest surrounded by red irritated skin in which the hair was ripped out. Now as the gash is healing and scabbing up, he winces and cries every time he goes to lay down. Why would they not have made me aware of this? I understand these things happen, but I think it's important to let the owners of dogs know when their pet has been injured while being groomed. For these reasons, I won't be back to poochies and I'd NEVER recommend this place to a friend. read more

I have a Rhodesian Ridgeback who of course has super short hair so very easy to groom,i.e. no brushing or drying. I dropped her at Poochies for a bath,nails clipped,& anal glands. When I went to pick her up the price was $48.15!!!!! I honestly thought he was kidding at first. I have had her groomed at several different salons around Providence and even in NYC. The highest I have EVER paid for all the aforementioned services is $32.00. I cannot believe what a rip off this place is! I'll stick to DoggieDos in Pawtuxet Village or even Petco. Unless you like paying through the nose for services that are at least $15 cheaper everywhere else,stay clear of Poochies! read more

My friend took her puppy there recently for grooming and they were told the puppy needed a shave from the knots. When they went to pick up their dog, poochie pet spa shaved the dog down to the skin. In this frigid weather, they shaved the dog where you can see the puppy's pink skin. Un freakin real!!! I have never heard of dog being shaved down to the skin, unless it's a rescue dog!!! Especially in this weather...let alone the stress and the trauma for the dog!! Needless to say, never gong back to this awful lazy place!!!! read more

My dog and I just moved back from California and live in the neighborhood. I walked in today and they were able to fit my dog in, even on a busy Saturday. He got a great cut and I felt like the owners knew what I wanted and delivered exactly that. My dog seemed comfortable and well taken care of. I will definitely be back! read more

We took our patterdale terrier Ollie to Poochies this afternoon and we are definitely going back. Dee and Billy were very friendly and it shows how much they care about dogs. Their rates are much cheaper than Petco and they do nail clippings for free. Highly recommended! read more

They are the most RUDE business I have encountered in a very long time. I brought my Rotti mix in to be groomed and they wouldn't take him because whoever the woman is said she won't do Rottwillers. If you are going to own a business that serves animals then you should take ALL breeds. Obviously they don't know dogs very well. They should be able to between conversations with the owners and seeing the demeanor of the dog know wether or not the dog should be muzzled! In this case she wouldn't even look at my Benny who is a great big gentle giant never growled, bitten or snapped at anyone. Amazing groomers, especially if you have a "difficult" dog like we do, they are the only groomers who can handle her (Petco sent her back to us as she was growling at groomers from her crate). They are sometimes brusque, but honestly, they do such a great job and are so wonderful with all of the animals, that who really cares? I always recommend them to friends and people I run into at the dog park. read more

I was very happy taking my dog, a small mixed poodle. Under 30 pounds. I know the state of rhode island now charges sales tax on groomers, but the last time he charged me $53.00. He stated my dog was knotted which was not true. I think their prices are getting out of hand. I am in the process of finding a new groomer other than the hated Petco. My dog is mainly a house dog. I guess in the winter months, owners don't take their dogs as often as in the summer so to over charge the customer, they use the term, "knotted" to increase their price. Plus my dog was shaking and upset. I notice on other reviews other people dogs are experiencing the same dog trama. read more
