5 stars for the grooming only. Maria took excellent care and did a great job with my German Shepherd Apollo. He came out of it looking so good and he was happy. It was clear she took the time to make sure he enjoyed the process. My tips are to make an appointment 3-4 weeks in advance bc the grooming dept is busy. Also, until your pup is 6 months old he gets a huge discount, so take advantage of that. read more

I had two full years of grooming experience at the time, including handling large breeds, aggressive dogs, and creative grooming. Instead of being asked about safety protocols, client retention, or technique refinement, I was told my grooming photos "weren't the skill they were looking for," and advised to start over as a bather. Looking back I do definitely see things I needed to improve, but the grooms I showed were no where near needing to restart as a bather! I've since worked as the first hire for a Zooming Grooming franchise startup and have spent the past year doing house-call grooms for difficult dogs that salon groomers won't even touch. That same photo portfolio earned me multiple interviews elsewhere, praise from franchise owners, and client loyalty. It's one thing to require more experience. It's another to disguise personal insecurity and elitism as professional standards. Grooming managers should be encouraging rising talent--not gatekeeping it with vague critiques and power plays. This morning I had to rush my little Phoenix to the vet, and my heart is still tight about it. For the past few days, I noticed him licking his paw. I kept checking for stickers (because those things love my backyard), but I couldn't find anything. Last night I finally saw a little blood and planned to take him in today... but this morning, there was even more. The vet found the issue: one of his toenails had grown so long that it punctured into his paw. Yes--his own nail growing into his paw. I'm sick about it. What makes this worse is that Phoenix has been groomed every 6 weeks at PETCO Grooming on SE Military Drive. I've been paying good money-plus a generous tip-specifically to make sure his nails stay trimmed. Missing it once? Okay, people are human. But for a nail to grow this long, it had to be missed more than once. When I called the store, the manager didn't apologize. Not even a "sorry this happened." Just told me I should've checked. So let me say this loud and clear: I will not be returning to PETCO Grooming on SE Military. And I'm posting this so other pet parents can keep a closer eye and avoid going through this with their fur babies. Phoenix is getting treated and will be okay, thank God. Bought 4 bags of dog food. All marked at either 50% off or $10.00 off. We check out, get home, go over our receipt and notice two of the bags have only been discounted at 10% off. A $20 5lb bag of dog food. I go back I let the cashier know the issue and he tells me the bags were not "50% off" they were actually "10% off because he and his manager did the reset themselves" I unfortunately didn't bring the stupid bags of dog food so I leave AGAIN, pick up the dog food and asked for a refund. He politely gave me my refund while I explained the mix up. Still telling me that the bags on the food are actually only supposed to say 10% off... that the "$" on said discount sticker is actually supposed to be a "%". Moral of the story, PLEASE LOOK OVER ANY DISCOUNTED ITEMS. Make sure the price labeled on the product matches the price you pay. This store is the best. Today I met Coty Leonard. He is a wealth of knowledge. He's honest and knows so much about freshwater and saltwater fish and shrimp. He's easy to talk to. He explains things even someone in their fifties can understand. You immediately feel his love for anything to do with his job and also hobby at home. Yesterday I met Taylor Simmons she was amazing also. She told me to visit today to meet Coty. This is now my go to store. I love it they know everything about fish and shrimp. Terrible experience today. They added tall poles to the carts so you can't get up and down the aisles. After paying, I couldn't take my things to the car in the cart. We definitely had to get a different pet carrier for Dexter. The large plastic one we have is just too difficult to maneuver. I saw a Sherpa online, but didn't have time to get it here on time for the bet visit. So, off to Petco. We were helped right away when asked where the carriers were. They had been moved from the area I remembered. Several soft side carrier brands were on the shelves. Sherpa appeared to be the most luxurious. The bottom liner was soft and plush. Perfect for our baby (big baby, that is). This store does have a plethora of items for just about any pet you have. And a helpful staff. Go there. read more

The hermit crabs are in painted shells which is really toxic for them and that makes me sad. All animals deserve to be treated well! Also the glow fish are injected with ink which is not good and I'm not sure if constantly being under blue light is good for them either. read more

I usually come here for nail buffing for my pup. I had an appointment at @4:15pm on 09/13/2022 for Daisy. However, this time, i saw that there was a new guy working in grooming. I told him to please be careful with trimming/buffing my dogs black nails. I heard my dog cry out loud 4 times before I had to intervene him from buffing the rest of her nails. My pup looked terrified and was shaking really bad. The guy bluffing her nails was also being rough with her grabbing her paw really hard and carelessly. I was truly heartbroken seeing my pup like this. After intervening, i asked him why she cried out many times. He responded with "they cry out usually when it gets close to cutting the vein". He also stated that its normal crying out. Just went on and still paid for everything when I shouldn't have. Something didn't feel right. When we got home, i checked her nails. She was not bleeding at all but he did cut the tip of her quick. My dogs nails are still very very sensitive. She doesn't want to walk anywhere and immediately withdraws her paws when i try touching and inspecting her nails. She's been in pain since we left the store. 30 mins after me and my pup arrived home, i noticed she was still shaking and breathing fast from being scared. I have never seen her like this and usually does not cry when having her nails trimmed. I am very disappointed and will not be returning to any petco for any nail trimming/buffing. I went to Petco off Austin Highway to get prescription food for my cat and was told they didn't carry it but that the San Pedro store would have it. So then I drove to San Pedro store only to be told that they didn't have it to go to 410 location. I found the food gave the cashier my prescription paper and the food and was told they I couldn't purchase it without seeing their vet that was gone for the day. I asked to speak with a manager and she rudely said she was, her name was Briana snd that's their policy and if I didn't like it to call customer service. Why would I need to see their vet if I have a vet that already wrote the prescription. I called customer service said I could order it on line but I can not get it in store. Customer service was nice and she said she isn't sure why they do it that way that it makes no sense to her either. I will just order from Chewy on line and never go back to a Petco. I hope you can adjust your broken system and learn to be more customer friendly. read more

HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! My 17 year old cat was recently diagnosed with kidney issues and the vet put her on the Hills K/D diet. This is all new to me so I was unaware of a special requirement that their vet has to take my vet's prescription and give me ANOTHER identical prescription to allow them to ring up the sale. And their vet is only open limited hours. In the meantime, the cat has no food exacerbated by the fact that I drove 25 minutes to this store because the first Petco I went to at 281 and 1604 doesn't carry the prescription food. I called here first and the employee checked to tell me they had plenty of stock. It would have been so simple for the employee to explain the requirement. I only started shopping here in November of 2021, but I will NEVER go back. I've been a Petsmart customer for years and I shouldn't have tried this place. These people are more concerned with their store policies than the pets of their customers. read more

The lady Leah taking care of our dog is amazing so sweet but the vet named Doctor Beverly was so hateful even made a rude comment about our cat who passed away in front of the kid who took his passing hard and was persistent we did a ear test even though we said no several times he gets ear infections and we had opted to treat it and the Dr. Beverly would not leave us alone l. She just seemed like she hated animals and her job most of the staff were nice though. Leah was the sweetest lady and deserves a raise Lol. I usually take my cat to this vet, everything had been decent until today. He hasn't eaten, pooped, or drank any water in the last couple days. Obviously causing alarm we rushed to take him to the vet he knows. Asked for a reusable bag to purchase and was told to click a button on the screen to purchase it. After pressing the button the cashier told me to press and seeing the amount change to almost $15 more. I asked if the bag was the original $4.00 she then said "no". I then asked again if a donation was required for the bag and all she said was "yes". I was basically tricked into "donating" money to whatever organization for a reusable bag that could've been purchased for $4 but was charged an extra $6.00 for the "donation." Though it may go to a good cause I just wanted the reusable bag and was not told it would charge an extra $10 rather than the actual cost of the bag. The cashier was terrible. read more

As a new fish enthusiasts, I must warn you to please stay clear of the Stone Oak, San Antonio Petco. I recently purchased a high dollar powered aquarium filter which suddenly stopped working after less that two months . I attempted to return the unit in-person but was declined due to the stores system not being able to find my purchase "IN THE SYSTEM" even with my PETCO ID" which I used" number. I was personally told by instore leadership this I was out of luck and my only chance was to call the "PETCO" corporate customer service number to see if they could look up my receipt via CC number and email to me. I immediately did, after a extensive wait, I recached a representee who was obviously then conferenced me in with store leadership. Store leadership on the conference call said "Oh yes, I'm the one who talked to you at the counter" and said " their is nothing we can do for your without the receipt". I replied with" i guess I'm SOL, Huh". After a pause he said "Yes Sir" Please do not be a fool like me and stick to a local pet store who cares about your loyalty, service, and the heath of your pets. This petco does not seem to take care of their bearded dragons. All of them were showing mild to SEVERE signs of metabolic bone disease (sick in general too) and there wasn't proper lighting in the tank, not even a heat lamp to keep the temperature regulated. The animals are living in poor conditions and unable to walk around in the tank. I wish they would do better to take care of their animals! Such a shame! read more

Called in to schedule an appointment for have my dogs nails trimmed. Never did grooming in this store, but I do take my dog to the vet there. They said I could just walk in. When I arrived, the customer service rep said I needed to have my dogs rabies vaccination papers and wouldn't do anything further unless I had the actual paper. I told them my dog is vaccinated, and they never said to bring the actual papers in. The person on the phone said, "Just walk in". I even told them that I take my dog to their vet...In that store! The customer rep just said, oh the vet is closed so that doesn't help. Very rude and unhelpful. Do not come to this store for grooming. Customer service is very poor! read more

We went to this Petco to get my son an aquatic frog yesterday for his birthday. Right as we were walking In, we noticed the groomer was being pretty rough with a husky dog, they didn't have any aquatic frogs, and most the fish were dead and dying there. We left disgusted and disappointed in Petco. We went to a PetSmart, their store was clean, you could tell all the aquatic animals were well taken care of, and we Got my son his aquatic frog. Beware going to this location. It's dirty, messy, and we felt and feel terrible for the fish living there. It makes you wonder how the other animals are being taken care of. This is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard in my live. I stop in here to get a prescription food. After working all day long and the cashier tells me he can't sell me the product even though I have a prescription until I go see their vet and they verify it. Even though I have a prescription from my vet that shows that it is a legitimate veterinarian. Trust me I didn't want to buy anything from your expensive store anyways. They did such a great job grooming my dog! I got a bath and haircut for my dog Yogi here. His haircut is very even. I've had other groomers mess it up, with patches if very short hair. The groomer gave us a free dental bone for national dental health month. They were so gentle and careful with my dog. Great people! read more

While I've called a few times about having my dog groomed, I stick to my gut when I get poor service over the phone. Are they seperate from the store? I'm not sure. Regardless, Petco offers a great selection of any and almost ALL pet products. Some you can find reasonably priced on the end isles. I often go and peep the old holidays items. I recently purchased some great chew toys and snacks for 90% off the original price just because they were Halloween colored. The staff members are mostly helpful. The dog food selection is the best around especially if you're into the natural health food. I love the bird accessory options as well, great perches at affordable rates! Typical visit includes shopping at Petco then grabbing a burrito from Freebirds all within perfect walking distance! read more

This location, as with all other Petco's that I've stepped into have been impeccable. Rows are well lit and filled with great products like eco-friendly food and water bowls and almost any dog or cat food you could possibly think of. Everything is well organized and easliy accessible which is great for shopping on the fly. On occasion I've had to return items and have had absolutely no problem at all with returns or exchanges. Employees are sparse for the most part but the ones you do find are no doubtly very friendly and helpful to boot. I had a few questions about switching my dog over to a limited ingredient diet and they were very helpful in choosing the right food for my dog's maladies. Overall I don't have anything to complain about beyond the prices being substantially higher than Petsmart, but the staff, location, and products make it well worth it to shop here. read more

I'm sorry but for 30 minutes I was looking around in the fish section and not once was I ordered help.

We have been going to this location for over a year. Most of the staff is very nice, and we enjoyed going there as a routine. We spent a decent amount of money there, too. However, the manager treated us in a very condescending manner when we returned a flea spray. He talked to us like we were morons and didn't know how to read, although we are both college educated. He reluctantly gave us the refund, but said he would not do it again. We left feeling pretty unappreciated. Also, he refused to help us another time when we brought in a free dog food coupon from the Petco calendar. He did not carry the product shown and acted very annoyed when we let him know. He did not offer any substitutions. If your store promotes a coupon, you need to honor it. I did give it two stars because the other staff is nice. read more
