She showed me some beautiful guppies that have been ordered, so I'll likely head back in the next couple of weeks. The Petco in St. Louis park is awful! I went to buy some fish and practically had to fill out a form. In the end the manager refused to sell me any fish and called me a liar! So I went to the nearest Petco and they sold me what I wanted. Shame on the St Louis Park location!!!! read more

I placed an order with Petco for the delivery of cat litter and a cat toy. Petco now uses Doordash for delivery. The doordash driver didn't follow the instructions for proper delivery of my order. There is no way that I can find to contact Petco by email with a complaint that doesn't fit into their specific categories. I am very disappointed that Petco now uses Doordash for delivery. This is the Highland / Ford Parkway store. Only one visit before, I brought my prescription Rx in to be registered to buy prescription food at this store. It is my fault for not memorizing that despite that they put all of the info into my computer file, I must bring a piece of paper in with a scan code every time I purchase Rx food. I understand this now. At the time, it was not clear to me. SO today when I visited the store to purchase over $120 worth of Rx food, I did not realize that I needed that piece of paper again. Every time. OK, now I get it. Rather than offering an option of flexibility for this one time while I learn the process, the cashier Erin did not bother to try to make this work this one time. She also did not offer to ask the manager to help me out / give me a learning period of ONE time. I left the food at the counter and walked out, vowing never to go back to this store. Any PETCO. After regaining my cool, I telephoned the manager Cynthia while sitting in my car in their parking lot. She was giving me the same story as Erin. I understood. This is my mistake. However, this is my second time doing this system of bringing in this piece of paper with the barcode. Who would think that once the prescription information is in the computer that a piece of paper would be needed every time a purchase is made. Anyway, I informed Cynthia that I spend hundreds of dollars on pet food at that store and am still learning the system for using the prescription food purchases. I asked whether they could be flexible while a person is learning. I also said I did not plan to bring my regular business to them anymore if this is how they handle regular customers. Fortunately, Cynthia had enough managerial skills to offer to help me this one time. She offered to allow me to complete my purchase this one time. I returned to the store check out area and purchased the prescription food. This whole long review is just to say that: 1. Yes, I made a mistake not having the process down on my first try. 2. PETCO staff at this location did not really care - they are not trained to actually try to help the customer, even when it is in their own sales interest. They are willing to lose customers with inflexibility. 3. This PETCO location's manager Cynthia showed good managerial skills by meeting the customer partway and allowing this one-time mistake to be overcome and converted me back into a customer for that store, just by her good judgement and flexibility. Sometimes even when you shouldnt have to ask, it is worthwhile to ask. Talk with the manager. read more

This review is for grooming. I have been bringing my dog Wendy here for nail trims for the past year or so. I really appreciate the walk-in service as I have a very unpredictable schedule with young children at home. I try to come during off peak hours. The staff is always so pleasant and accommodating. My dog hates nail trims and loves to dramatically yelp and cajole a 2nd groomer to come and reassure her during the process. I think she secretly enjoys the extra attention. I appreciate the patience of everyone and they are never put off by Wendy's antics. I am so thankful for their help! read more

Nice location, lots of construction in the area at the moment so you may have to use the back streets to get into the parking lot. My dog and I stopped to watch their ferrets scrambling around -- totally fascinating. They didn't have the dog food I was seeking but they had lots of suitable alternatives. Lots of nice harness and leash options. Somewhat pricey but there were some sale end-cap areas worth checking out. read more

This is a review for their grooming service. They did a great job with my small dog who has arthritis and previous ACL tear repairs. Asked for photos of his usual cut and did exactly that. Groomer took great care of my dog and treated him how I would have during the introduction. My dog normally has anxiety, but he appeared his happy self after the grooming service. All staff was very friendly and the area was clean despite active grooming services that were ongoing. I had a great experience and will be using them from now on with my animals. read more

This past year we adopted a puppy mill dog. Getting her nails trimmed is high stress for our little 6lb. Toy Rat Terrier Sparrow as well as for me! I always feel bad for the groomers having to endure Sparrow's screaming! Seriously, she is LOUD! Today, after almost a year of Sparrow being tortured (eye roll) she didn't make a peep! I used to regularly purchase dog food and other dog related items from Petco. I literally spent over a thousand dollars there a year on high end dog food, toys, beds, collars and after I got my French Bulldog; dog clothes. My frenchie is difficult to buy clothes for because he's larger than most French Bulldogs. I purchased an item for him last fall and of course it didn't fit. I planned to return it within the 30 day return window but I injured my rotator cuff in my left shoulder so my attention was diverted for a while. That item sat with the receipt on my kitchen counter until one day I realized it was probably beyond the return date but I decided I better go to the Petco on Ford Parkway and throw myself on their mercy. They said nope you're past the return date. I was actually three days past the return date. It still had the tag on it and had never been worn, only tried on. They even still carried the item in stock. Called the manager to the front of the store. Manager said nope. No can do. Not even for a merchandise credit. I had at least $200 worth of dog food in my cart and they were balking at a merchandise credit for $19.99. Before you come at me saying I was acting entitled - I understood the return policy. I was just asking for an exception due to my injury. But they were steadfast in their refusal. I said fine, I understand. Rules are rules. I left that cart at the cash register without purchasing the dog food in it. I will never shop there again. Other stores carry the dog food my dogs eat and most carry it for less than Petco so maybe I'll have to drive further to buy it but it's the principal of the thing for me. read more

I am new dog owner. My first time in here was fantastic! Everyone was so welcoming and giving me such great information. If I can just remember everyone's name that I encountered working, I'd put their names down on here but I don't! I ran into a lady who said she doesn't work for Petco but she delivers food there and told me all the great things about this branch. She gave me information about puppy playtime on the weekends with Carol from 1-1:30. Carol is such a sweet lady! She enjoys my little husky and my husky seems to really like her! What's great is that Carol is also our trainer so we can train our little puppy, and so far Carol has been so great to us and giving us tips. I'd highly recommend this place! read more

I've started bringing my dog here regularly for grooming. They do an excellent job and it's cheaper than the place I used to use by a few bucks. I appreciate all the questions they ask at the beginning to find out exactly how you want your dog trimmed - they truly listened and my pup came out looking exactly as I described. I only wish they had a register right in the grooming area, both for my own convenience and so it would be easier to tip. read more

Though this is a chain store, I do really like this Petco. It is always clean and well maintained. It is generally well stocked. The staff is very freindly. And they have good operating hours that make it easy to pop by. I especially want to give a shout out to the manager... I don't know her name, but she is always super accomodating. She once let us have two smaller bags of food for an equal cost when the store was out of stock of the large 40 lb bag we usually buy. She is always helping with training, restocking shelves, helping customers, etc. If all managers were as attentive and positive, retail would be a much better industry to work in! Also, sign up for Petco PALS. Of all the loyalty clubs I belong to, I feel this one offers me more regular coupons and incentives than most. read more

The staff here are super friendly! I haven't been to this location in a long time since I moved out of state, and I miss them dearly. My beautiful pet mice were purchased here in October, and in December when I came back for the first time in ages to stock up again (I buy in bulk) and upgrade their cage the cashier remembered me from my first visit without ANY prompting and asked how the girls were doing! Sometimes I wish I could make the trip out for my pet needs, since the nearest pet store to me is an hour away anyway and the people there are snobby. No snobs here, just animal lovers who want to get to know you and your pets! read more

This review is not so much against staff, who I thought were OK, (not great), but store policy. Took my difficult Jack-Chi to get her nails trimmed, and explained our procedure of holding her in a towel and covering her head while it is being done. Immediately ran into the company policy.. you cannot hold your dog during the clipping, and no one is allowed behind the counter.. no concessions, no customized care. All liability. If your dog is difficult there are no exceptions on how it is done. We had to basically watch as she was ''processed''. She almost fell off the table. We were told not to come back, and believe me, we won't. Try pet supplies plus across the bridge, as they allow owners who know their dogs to help and support them during a trying time. We've always brought our Yorkie (Lucy) but more recently our 9 year old mini schnauzer we adopted who was terrified of everything. My husband had a doctor appt. on Cleveland, then I remembered we had to get cat litter. Instead of waiting around for him this killed a good amount of time on something I couldn't put off another day. Staff is super friendly. I asked where it was and she walked me right to it. She explained how you can bring in the bucket for refills, so I got 30#. I thought I'd get food, and got 2 name brand bags at a nice low price. I saved more by signing up for a card. I was able to pull the car around and someone loaded everything in. They made it feel like one of those days where everything just goes right. read more

We have been getting our dogs groomed at Petco in Highland Park for a few years now. We love it there the groomers are so friendly and treat the dogs really well. Our dogs always look so nice when we pick them up and smell so good. The groomers do a wonderful job at a reasonable price. I would for sure recommend them to anyone. read more

I really love this Petco location and store. It is on the edge of the highland park area and I have always been able to run in there later in the evening and snap up everything my little fur-monsters need. The store has always been organized and clean and the staff were friendly and helpful. They will sometimes have pet food samples and events to get your animals photographed with Santa or the Easter Bunny. The prices are competitive. They are not in a plaza they are all by themselves so getting in and out is quick. read more

I was turned away from a grooming for my dog after being told they have a policy that they can't groom medicated dogs. I had already given her the trazodone prescribed by my vet for her anxiety etc that they ask her to have when she regularly goes in to see the vet. I wasn't informed of any policy prior to appointment and didn't see that listed. Super disappointed. They did follow up, they won't state their policy on their website, nor when they call to confirm appointment, so make sure to tell them so they can turn you away, or I guess don't go if your dog needs to be medicated for grooming needs read more

I've had good experiences at this store, and would usually praise them for those shopping outings. Unfortunately I had to walk away from the store yesterday, realizing I'll never be returning again. This after giving this particular location regular business for at least 7 years now. With my pets, I basically need a certain type of pet food - of which I attempted to order the item online this past week, since the folks working there would be dealing with Black Friday/Holiday craziness anyways. Sadly the item wasn't available online, and I did need the pet food at least in a week (at the latest). So I headed out into the shopping fray to get the food in person. Sadly the item wasn't on the shelf, and it took approx. 5 people (with only one them seeming like she was trying her best to handle the situation) 30 minutes later I was told it wasn't going to happen. The supervisor for the floor then refused to help match the food per pound (which they do with other pet food when items are out). And offered to order the item, but was unsure if the food would even arrive. Being my pets would prob. like to eat, and this is the particular diet they are on, that's not what I needed to hear. I promptly called another pet food store - while IN Petco and was taken care of over the phone In general, I try my best to not drive the sales associates crazy, I know it's a hard job and the customers can be sometimes the most passive, most angry types a person will ever encounter. Yet, when it's evident the majority of the staff doesn't care or make an efffort to find a solution - when I've already done everything I can to not take up their time - that's an entirely different prob. altogether. This makes me a little sad - as I prefer to not write negative reviews of places I shop at. Here's to hoping that Petco will take the time to: 1. Stock their shelves consistently with the items their customers purchase regularly (which should be a given) 2. Attempt to find alternatives, and keep their promises. ex: lb. for lb. option with any pet food that is out of stock that has been purchased in the store by customers, for ALL their pet food products. 3. Allow the nice gal (of the 5) take the leadership role w/n the crew I was dealing with. She was trying her best to deal with this challenge (w/ her hands fig. tied behind her back), despite the negativity of one supervisor in particular. On the upside, I can def. encourage everyone to take the time to frequent Chuck and Don's Pet Food Outlet. The staff was friendly, took care of me in a matter of 5 minutes, and the food was even cheaper at their store. There is a silver lining to this at least, I have a new place to frequent indefinitely for my pets' food needs. read more

Groomer that does not want to work. Brought my dog in for grooming, have been there many times before, and the groomer says he is listed as a biter, no one ever mentioned this to me before, and if he becomes unruly they will not be able to groom him. This is a 12 pound cockapoo with an under bite btw, very fierce! Knowing this was a cop out watched from the car as she began grooming him and was paying more attention to her phone than the dog and suddenly stops, goes to desk and calls saying he was nipping at her and she could not continue. So now I have half cut dog and she gets to surf web instead of work. If this had been a problem before why has no one said anything ever before? read more

Awesome place in the Ford Pkwy hood! Very helpful staff, always knowledgable & can help us find what we're looking for. Prices usually comparable to petsmart, & closer (save gas!). Great big parking lot. The groomers have been cutting our baby's nails since he was a pup. Very efficient & professional. Only once did they miss a dew claw that we forgot to mention. And free treaties at the checkout (our baby's favorite part!) He races through the store knowing what they got for him being a good boy! read more

I wonder if its difficult to get good employees based on my experience of Monday night at Petco. I was looking for some staff to assist but no one in sight.I had my mask on ( as I have when in stores during the entire pandemic) but as I was on my cell, it was pulled down a bit so I could be understood as I asked about specifics to family member as I did not find the stock I am used to in a pet store. Not many folks in store but really no help at all. Finally a young blonde woman came from the back and was doing that avoid customers looks for help at all cost thing. I repeatedly tried to get her attention but she was not up for the customer assist challenge. I started walking closer to her to try to get her attention(maybe 6 feet) when she became snarky, talking loudly with much hysterical drama "You have to pull your mask up to get close to me" with much critical tone and weirdness. I was saying that I was getting info about purchase but the drama continued (try outs for high school theatre?) as if it was a life and death situation. Her ugly, tone and critical way of speaking to a customer was over the top and unacceptable. Finally I said with the phone leaning towards her, speak into the phone to tell my daughter ...another drama outburst "I am not putting that nasty thing up to my ear" as if that is what I wanted her to do. I then said, I am needing to find a normal staff and pet store (Go to Chuck and Don's...they were customer positive, helpful and not into teen drama). She followed me as I was leaving the store, saying rude, disrespectful comments ( if I was a safety issue why would she chase after me to continue her verbal tirade)? Really not needing unhinged, teen drama girl who thinks being ugly and snarky and then chasing a customer to the exit to get the last word was either acceptable or something an employee would do in Petco. read more

The staff here create a very uncomfortable environment. In particular, Karla. She insinuated we were abusing our dog by getting a Vibration Dog Collar. She ultimately would not let us purchase it & guilt tripped us about it & pretty much forced us to get air spray & bells which do not solve our problem at all. In other experiences with her it felt as if we had no other choice but to sign our dog up for Petco Training Classes when we already had plans to go elsewhere. I need to give a shout out to Joe, the aquatic expert, at the Petco Highland Park! I almost forgot what really good customer service felt like until my recent experience in speaking with Joe. I came into the store just needing a filter for my fish tank. Well after some general questions from Joe, I ended up spending a good 1/2 hour speaking with him about how best to care for my fish tank, the proper way to clean it, and general feeding guidelines. Turns out I had been doing it completely wrong! Joe is truly passionate about his job and aquatics in general and is a real asset to this store! read more

FUCK this place. They have been charging me 10-13$ every two weeks to cut my dogs nails. One day, a week after I had brought her in I noticed she was licking her paw excessively. I brought her to the vet because her paw seemed irritated. After the vet looked at her paws, she asked when I last had her nails trimmed and I told her the exact date, which was a week before. The vet then told me there was no way that was true, her nails had not been trimmed for at least a month. Bottom line, they were charging me but not actually trimming her nails. I was there today and there was a Pit Bull off leash in the store, walking around. Dangerous! When I mentioned it to Tasha, one of the clerks, she said its a pet store and that's okay (in a bit of a disrespectful tone). She said pit bulls are fine. Another clerk said it was ok too. Another customer brought it up and they told him the same thing! So I guess that is how they operate. I am just glad my little kids were not with me. I am never going back. Do not get your furbabies washed here. The rest of the operation is pretty chill as far as I know, but my senior Newf girl True was traumatized when she was a bit short of one y/o and now she's terrified of buildings whose smell reminds her of there. Worst customer service in the pet grooming area. Dealing with appointments reminders/going in two day in a tow and the next day to have had my appointment cancelled unknowingly and the groomers seemingly not caring. So It left me with a bad taste in mouth and will be going some place else for all my dogs needs. Too bad as it was really close but forget it.
