Waste of time scheduling with their "VETCO" Cheapest vaccination is $41 and would've spent roughly $150 on one animal every year for vaccines. False advertising that it is "low-cost" vaccine clinic. They don't post their prices online. some of the ladies were nice but the lady in charge needs to go back to training to learn some customer service skills. read more

I come here frequently to pick up cat litter as well as some provisions for Countess Willow and I have never experienced any issues. I'm in here about 1 or 2 times a month and the service is always great and the staff has always been helpful. It seems that lots of the issues always revolve around the grooming area and the vet or health area. Other than that if I'm looking for something they are always happy to help and no one has ever been rude in over 8 years. To be fair to the store I have heard while there people were mad because they have driven in to get services they don't provide or are confused about their services. I don't use any of their services so I'm not sure if they are written out clearly or what especially grooming but I tried one and I know they don't do cats. read more

What is wrong with this store? More than once now I've run into some extremely rude, dismissive employees, and I usually keep to myself when I run errands and don't ask anything of staff members. Tonight, my friend and I were bored and ran into Petco to grab some supplies and stare and the hamsters and fish. We were there around 7pm on Friday, February 7th. There were multiple tanks with dead fish, one tank with a couple of actively dying fish. It was sad. I figured I would let a staff member know so they could get the poor fish out of the tank and put them out of their misery. The girl I found literally rolled her eyes and smirked at me. She didn't move until I started walking towards the fish to show her which tank needed help. She stared at the fish, said they had something in the back to put down fish, didn't know how to use it, and that was it. I did see her tell another female employee, they both laughed, and did nothing. I told the cashier as well, hoping he would find a manager or go take care of it himself, and I got, "I'm just a cashier." So you don't know how to communicate with other staff members? Right. Ok. Along with the fish, there was a very ill, actively dying hamster. The same girl who rolled her eyes at me had just cleaned the hamster cages. You didn't catch the damp-looking hamster, wedged again the glass, clearly in respiratory distress? Fantastic. I just don't understand the carelessness and lack of compassion of the employees at this store. There's one friendly young guy and a manager in the salon that is very nice, but the shift working tonight sucked. You work at a PET store. You'd think if you chose to work at a pet store, you'd show a little empathy for the mass-produced pets that have to call the place home. And if you don't, you could at least ACT like you care in front of a customer. If you don't have compassion for animals, don't work with them. Go get a job at Big-O Tires across the street, or at literally ANY other business on Robert St. My God. read more

Terrible customer service!! We arrived three minutes early for a grooming appointment and the lady was so rude and sarcastic and aggressively lectured us on why we have scheduled appointments. It was shocking because we were only a few minutes early. We would have happily walked the pup around the block but with how she treated us we decided not to trust her with our beloved puppy. read more

I frequent this location for many years because this is my local petco. However, the aquatic department has gone down hill tremendously with customer support. No one can be found to help, and when I go up front to ask for help, no one comes. The cashier was nice enough to come to the back to tell me it's going to be a 20min wait, and I just had to walk out. I didn't hear anything else that was said because I didn't care anymore at that point. I don't just negatively yelp for any business, especially one that I frequent. However, this is strike 3 with a bad experience in 1.5mo and I just had to make a small unsatisfactory review in hopes of someone from Petco caring about the voice of their customers. This store is alright. I've never been asked if I need help finding anything, even though I end up wandering about the cat section. I come here as a last resort when I don't feel like driving to Chuck and Don's in Eagan or roaming around Target is a no-go at the moment. I actually LIKE this BRAND NEW store that opened recently across from their old location. It also has NEW staff! I love the wonderful clean contemporary NEW feel of urban renewal as St Paul Planning people are working ferociously to uplift this entire area!! BRAVO‼‼ I prefer Petco to Petsmart. I like that they lean more and more to more all natural products . And Zodiac does have a very low but good combo of chemicals that work for EARLY minimal flea infestation -- methoprene ( a GROWTH inhibitor that truly STOPs the reproduction capability of these bugs but must be at 6% strength)and an adulticide. Our pets become the most loving comforting part of our world, so keeping them healthy happy extends their life and time with us. Grain free diets seem to be the hot new way to feed our pets. Our beloved Dr Hardy now retired used to laugh and say, " you don't see today many old fat dogs!" Raw meat diets are risky because of bacteria that can grow super fast. So many Vets at the U of Mn Vet school were impressed with the new Purina foods that are grain free and not as costly as many others. But ALL the VETS stressed that dogs and cats (that are outside) must must have: flea protection via Frontline Plus and Heartguard for dogs. Costco also sells these as well. ( Flea collars they said concentrate too much medication in only a limited area of the body of the pet, and sometimes can be toxic.) With our 3 wonderful dogs in the last 25 years, we found over the entire life of the pet, U of Mn Vets were less expensive because they helped PREVENT illness and problems, they were proactive. Yes the per visit $$ WAS higher, but thanks to their annual check ups, advice on diet changes as they aged, our pets DID NOT GET SICK!! We are SO lucky to hv a Vet School in our backyard. They can advise on grooming shampoos, even training and behavioral problems as well. read more

The groomers did a really good job on my wiggly dog. He's easily distracted and likes to kiss, so he's always throwing his head all around. They gave him a great haircut and now he can see again because his hair isn't covering his vision! read more

Petcos are so different store to store, IMHO, all about the staff. The staff here know their stuff and from my experience care about the animals in the store. It's just sometimes hard to find someone who is interested in you as a customer, or find someone to help you, period. We return to this Petco vs the one in Highland Park, which is significantly closer to home, as we find both the staff and in-store experience at this location to be superior. Have purchased everything from hamsters to fish here over the years, along with all the assorted accessories each require. It's likely we will return for our future pet needs. read more

Having a Guide Dog I have always dropped in when in the area to get his nails trimmed. This location always came out to the drop off space to trim their nails, so we could be quickly on our way. The last two times in Jessica L refused to help my Guide first stating she was uncomfortable preforming the nail trim, and claimed it was corporate policy that all work is done on a table. When I pointed out my Guide's were given an exception over the last 20years, she called the store manager over to grooming to back her up and tell me I must be wrong because no work is done unless on the table. She then told me to go across the street to the vet clinic if I wanted his nails trimmed. read more

This Petco location is worth an extra drive for me compared to a closer location. Emilio is knowledgeable, friendly, and an excellent salesperson. Petco is very fortunate to have him as an employee, and I feel the same about myself as I happened to meet him and receive help from him as I adopted a new feathered friend. I trust his advice and feel comfortable sharing my concerns with him regarding my little creatures care. This location keeps their fish tanks pristine, which sadly cannot be said about other locations. I don't doubt that Emilio has shared his wealth of knowledge with other staff at this Petco, and as a team they have excelled at caring for their fish and the rest of the creatures they keep at this store. So I bought a hermit crab from this same petco about in a week and half ago came back and decided to buy a new one but unfortunately there was terrible customer service and laughed at me and basically she dined me of buying another hermit crab .. I told her I have a a bigger aquarium then what they were even in at the pet store and the perfect setting and everything I needed for the hermit crab as I already have one . and simply just wanted my crab to have a friend .. but no "ms rude hermit crab police said hermit crabs are a "extremely hard pet to take care of " said "yeah I'll have to talk to whoever sold u your last crab " I honestly thought she was joking over a hermit crab ??? all employees are beyond rude here would not recommend comming here if you want polite custermer service , or to be denied by looks as what it felt like from me , as the previous lady who sold me my last crab from the same pet co said I had the perfect setup .. read more

When my previous dog groomer retired I was forced to find a new one. I have had my 15 year old Lhasa Apso, Humane Society "grad", Billy trimmed and groomed twice at Petco, Robert Street, West St. Paul. The manager and groomer "Amy", couldn't have been nicer or done a better job. Amy and I had a short conversation about how I wanted Billy groomed and that's the way Billy was done when I picked him up. The price was fair and I was very pleased with the whole experience. Lousy technology and awful management. Registers typically have card-swipers that don't work. And they can't enter your number manually. That would make things too easy I suppose. Grooming cannot check you out so after a stressful grooming housed in a tiny cage you have to subject your dog to a checkout line that is typically ridiculous in length. Young unkempt millennial manager Roy is useless. We spend over $100/month on our pets and not a dime of it will be spent here any longer. read more

I've been there alot and every time I'm there the larger parrots (cockatiel, conjure,,) have the dirtiest water I've ever seen, to the point the water is green, their water needs to be changed AT LEAST once a day otherwise the birds can get sick. read more

Updated twice, with photos especially since the employee decided to text and harass me and "laugh" marked my text messages. This company is trash at its core their corporate representation didn't even announce himself as a title nor could he get my name correct and remember it, he also kept asking for the employees name before discussing the well-being of the animal even though I asked him to address the animal first, I was initially told that they didn't take these types of phone calls with concerns of care for their animals until I said that their company is absolutely making the worst decision by not taking concerning phone calls I was transferred to premium care and then finally transferred to someone in corporate that again didn't even know how to introduce himself. Made a purchase then a big mistake, sad story, got an almost 3m higher maintenance little creature from here and needed a babysitter in a pinch asked an employee who was taking care of them originally in pooooo filled enclosures.... should have known better! Person asked for $40 for fri-sun. Picked up my lil guy Sun night and was warned it wasn't cleaned so I was like ok... got home started unpacking everything, I would've been better off leaving that baby in a dumpster NO EXAGGERATION, was returned to me absolutely filthy completely dried cemented on vegetables, leafs way too big, about half to a dozen several too large cricks with no calcium dust all Left in the open top container with everything in it, absolutely nothing cleaned at all. Some toes were white and super curled maybe shed but looked really uncirculated and why wouldn't that person help that? I am completely disappointed and concerned for the owners other animals if this is the typical treatment. Luckily within 12 hours I was able to get my guy looking and feeling way better. I realize harsher conditions animals can survive but I'm not a person to compromise that when I am taking care of them! I was not impressed with the way that she was handling creature in front of me either, Way too young to be trying to show me if it's a boy or a girl at the base tail with zero backlight in the bright day, why squeeze them hard and stretch him out like that? Also why were my thermometers taken out and my spray bottle missing, his poops are smaller dryer, I could tell he wasn't eating well apparently he loved climbing on top of this enrichment she had put in, who knows if she cleaned it, but in reality I think he was just hiding from the crickets because now he doesn't even go near the thing. Yes the enclosures were are different it was a ten min drive, yes it can stress them out a little bit, I'm not saying it's 100% her fault, I wasn't there, facts are that little guy looked neglected facts are he bounced back very fast in my care warm bath, h20 dropper, all lights and cleaned enclosure. I don't trust Petco in the first place for live or frozen animals and with this experience I wouldn't trust employees either. It is not my intention to get anyone in trouble with this post I am simply saying what I did was not good care for my little baby and I regret not using a professional service. Luckily I noticed the several crickets as I was unpacking in my bathroom and could quickly eliminate them but a warning that they were in there would have been nice!! I no longer choose to feed cricket as I know he was stressed out by that because of his actions when offered plus parasites and lower nutritional value, he was fine with crickets before I handed him over, plus I just believe in better food sources. Picking on me is one thing but if I pay top dollar plus professional services I offer, for one of my animals especially a baby with high maintenance needs to be taken care of I expect WAY more. I am a new owner I may be a little sensitive but absolutely without a doubt the condition that he was returned in was an insult to the care of animals. I would have pictures but Again it's not my intention to get anyone in trouble just don't take the risk find a professional. And if you do purchase frozen mice or rats, research the supplier! Years ago they fed them corn which is a cheap diet and can cause cancer, malnutrition which then malnourished my snake within months. The quality pet store I go to get all my food for my animals is 40 minutes away and well worth a trip every week. Awful. Went here on 2 occasions to purchase fish for my tank. ALL the tanks where they keep the little guys are FILTHY. Alge and waste everywhere even a few dead fish that looked pretty ripe. Also terrible service, only one person appeared to working, therefore there was no one to help me in the aquatics dept. I went to the front to ask the cashier to send someone, I waited 5 min and still no one appeared. Will never again take my dog to this place. The service in the grooming department is extremely rude and they were not helpful when they didn't have the appointment that I had made down. Rushed from work to grab the dog, brought the dog in and they said that they didn't have record of an appointment with them. Don't pay any attention to the posted hours if you want grooming. They're probably closed. They won't let you make an appointment for nail trimming, but they always close a couple hours early, so don't plan to walk in either unless it's morning. When I ask what time they close grooming inside the retail store, they always look at their watch and say whatever the most recent hour mark is. it'll save you time in the long run to drive across town to another Petco. read more

We brought our 1.5 year old cat to have her groomed with a bath and brush out. What they did was bath her throw her into a kennel and shoot dryers at her...and then tried to shave her. Not only was this trauma to her there were barking beagle dogs. She escaped out of the kennel so they bathed her again and when we picked her up she was soaking wet. Then had the nerve to ask us to pay full price. I called talk to the person who groomed her and the woman full blown out lied to me about what happened. I am absolutely done with this store. Firstly they will not groom my shih tzu, because he's a nipper. I started taking him to another groomer, which is fine by me. There grooming department is ridiculous. I observed groomers arguing and even bad mouthing one of them that went on a break. Very very unprofessional. The real reason for why I'm done now has to do with their low cost shot clinic on Sunday mornings. I sent my partner there with our dog and cat to get rabies only, just to be legal and to be able to get my dog groomed. My partner asked for the bare minimum being just the rabies. It should have cost under $50. Total for both pets. Well the lady charged us over $100. She did not listen to what we wanted and gave our pets a five in one shot on top of the rabies. It wouldn't be a big deal if I wasn't on a budget. I have four kids to support and I needed enough money to get my dog groomed. I spoke with the manager and he could care less. I told him that We only wanted the rabies shots and he acted like it was out of his hands. I stated that if I wanted to pay that much I could've gone to a regular clinic and gotten a full exam for that price with the shots he agreed but made it quite obvious he didn't give enough of a crap to right this in any way. read more

I volunteer with Last Hope, Inc., a rescue, and we use Petco West St. Paul for adoption of some of our cats. I work full-time in my regular job so have to try to fit my 20+ hours of volunteering for Last Hope in when I can. I have had so much help from team members at Petco. Paula and the grooming salon do the cat laundry, and Dave, Audra, Juli, Ruth, Roy and others have been so wonderful with the animals. I don't have to worry about my habitat cats' day-to-day care as they all keep me up to date with any changes with the animals. I could not do the volunteering without their help. They have been invaluable to me and the Last Hope rescue. read more
