I ordered cat products online about a week ago. I did not receive my 20% off for the cat products as they advertised. They kept sending me a generic, automatic reply about it being sent to their "internal team" to review. I provided the information they asked for, plus extra. I check every day. Called store at 6:15 and was told they closed at 7 so I rushed to get there. Got there at 6:53 and they had already locked the doors! So if you're closing at 7 then close at 7! I drove 20 miles to get there and they didn't care about the fact they locked earlier than what they told their customer! read more

Petco - Robin - Pet Training Near Me - Sumter, South Carolina

I've lived in Sumter for 3 years and I have always taken my dog to this exact location. I booked an online grooming appointment for Sunday at 9am. Apparently Petco doesn't open until 10am on Sundays. I showed up on time and walked up to the door just for it to be locked and no one to be in the store. I figured it must've been a mistake because why would Petco allow me to book an appointment at 9am knowing their store doesn't open for another hour. I came back when they opened and spoke to the grooming department just for them to turn me away and tell me I have to book for next Sunday. Their reason for this was due to lack of kennel space & my spot had already been filled. They also told me I was supposed to call, so that someone could open the door. I'm genuinely confused because why wouldn't there be a notice on the website about store hours or a bullet point to acknowledge stating that you understand to call the store. Why would anyone call when it's evident that the store is closed. Not only that Petco took zero accountability in the situation. I'm supposed to call someone to open the doors but no one called me to ensure I showed up to the the appointment I booked and confirmed !? Literally makes no sense. I also noticed Petco took the time to contact someone else to fill my spot but not the original person who booked ? I cant believe Ive been wasting money at this location to be treated so poorly. I go to Petco cause it is the best place to get supplies. I used to take my dog to the groomer there. Spent a lot of money there over the years. So you can imagine how shocked I was when he began to get older and they would no longer groom him except for his face. They do not groom older dogs. read more

I have been taking my golden doodle to the groomers here since she was a puppy, spending nearly a $100 each visit. I get her in every 4-6 weeks as suggested. Today's visit was one of nightmares. She came in with a few mattes, this is to be expected for her breed and it's why I pay so much to your company for her to be groomed. I took her in expecting her to be groomed how she usually is and I expected a long wait time. When I picked her up and saw her I could not believe my eyes. I didn't even recognize her. If it wasn't for her personality I would have been convinced they switched my dog for another. She was shaved down to her skin in the dead of winter. The groomer who actually worked on her hardly even show her face. The other groomer who talked to me was extremely disrespectful. I expressed that I was shocked and didn't expect to see my dog shaved down like this, she told me "well next time she is matted you need to just take her to the vet." This obviously added to the utter shock I felt. How dare the groomer hint that I do not take care of my dog. She is a very expensive dog and she gets the top care offered. They also nicked her leg badly. Not to mention we waited over 6 HOURS to come pick up a shaved dog. They didn't even feel the need to call and tell us they were shaving her. It is clear this situation came down to laziness. I don't believe they wanted to put the work in to get the mattes out so they shaved her then tried to gaslight me into believing this happened because I neglect my dog. I will never feel comfortable bringing my dog back because of this incident. I'm not the type of person who writes complaints, I understand things happen but the way this situation was handled shook me to the core. I wasn't charged or offered to make another appointment so they knew they messed my dog up badly. I have attached photos of my dog before her appointment, her after, how she usually looks after an appointment, and the nick they left in her leg. These groomers had no right to do this without calling and they have lost their mind if they think it is acceptable to put the blame on me as a paying customer. This happened in February. My dog has been to the grooming salon a couple times and always come out looking great! Kelly was his groomer this last time. A couple cons of the groomer is it is a pretty penny, but also, you can't get cash back when you check out to tip your groomer. Felt terrible about that, but I don't carry cash and bank with a chain that doesn't have a branch in Sumter. We also do our regular shopping there for things we don't repeat order online. It usually has everything we need, but doesn't have a good variety in some cases such as paw balm. The staff has been nice all the times I have been there. The fish section is a little gross with a lot of dead snails and fish in the tanks with the living. Wish they offered Rx food, but overall I enjoy going to this store. read more

I go to this store a LOT. The betta selection is the best around and they've gotten a lot better with actually taking care of them...still not the best but I don't see dead fish every time I come anymore. It usually takes awhile for help in the fish department but the newer employees are very friendly and actually make sure to inform you of proper care which I love. You can tell the newer people love the animals and care for them. This store is certainly going in the right direction from what it was. read more

I had the worst customer service from the female manager on shift today. I purchased a bag of dog food and realized after we arrived home that it was already Open. I brought it back with my receipt for an even exchange. The cashier called the manager for assistance and she came up with a very negative demeanor. She did not acknowledge or greet me the whole time I was standing in front of her. She walked away and I attempted to ask her a question and was completely ignored me. She acted like she was being inconvenienced having to help me when I was the one who had to come back to the store twice, wait in line twice and wait for her and the cashier to figure out the register issue. The cashier provided a better service than the manager. If I could give zero stars I would.....Worst experience ever with Petco. read more

I do not think petco and especially this petco should hold live animals ESPECIALLY reptiles I got two reptiles and they both died from parasites and they botched died very young which means they had these parasites when they were born and you shouldn't have a water dish with the bearded dragons like they had cause it messes with the humidity levels and can cause respiratory issues to these lizards petco does not take good care of these animals at all and it's really upsetting and disgusting that they don't and I don't think they take good care of their crickets either because that could be another way both of my lizards ended up with parasites. read more

I had an awful experience here. One Sunday morning, I needed to pick up a collar. I wasn't sure if Petco was opened yet so I swung by. The doors were open and the lights were on so I was excited I could pick up a cute collar as they usually have a decent selection. Upon entering the store a women as the desk yelled "we are not open, can't you read the sign" I was taken back at how I was spoken too and I only order on line now. Pretty good selection, but I wish they sold more clothing for dogs/cats. I love looking at their "Adopt Me" section. I also recommend their "Petco Positive Dog Training" for puppies and/or adult dogs. I would like to recognize the great service we received by Vicki at the Petco, Sumter, SC location. We were visiting from out of town and did not have our current vet records with us. Vicki contacted our vet for us, got all of the necessary information and quickly did the paperwork and then went to work on our two 85 lb yellow labs. She did a wonderful job on the grooming but what we really appreciated was her cheerful attitude and helpful spirit. She is an asset to Petco and a great representative for your brand. There grooming department is Wonderful. They not only trim my dogs nails, but they also buff them so they do not catch on clothing, or carpets. My dogs won't even let me touch there feet, yet when I went to pick one of my labs up she was literally just laying there cool as could be and allowing the groomer to paint her toenails!! I about fell over, since I of course did not ask for this service to be done, and never in a million years thought that my dog would allow this to be done to her!! lol. However when I went to pay I found out that they were running a special and it was included and the price was VERY acceptable, and reasonable. I have paid upwards of $100 per dog to be groomed in other places in Sumter; and that's not even having their hair cut!! I cannot begin to say enough about how great the employees were and the grooming staff. My dog even got a goody bag to go with perfume in cupcake scent which was the stores promotional scent of the month. Everyone there made a huge fuss over her and I will continue to use Petco for all my grooming needs. read more

Rudest cashier. She saw me standing in line behind a couple. Took her 6 minutes to ring up couple. At this point woman who walked past me and behind me told me I cut in line. Cashier told me I wasn't in line. Are you kidding me???? She made eye contact with me. Knew I was in line. Ignored any problem I may have been causing standing where I was until super suburban mom chimes in. For goodness sake my cash transaction of 4 items would have taken less then a minute. Update: The bird I bought from this store was ill. The policy petco had was that I take it to a vet clinic in Columbia, an hour away. So we took it there, left it over night and it was still throwing up. Eventually we returned the bird, and the cage. It was nice enough that petco let us do that since the box for the cage was already gone and the bird was 3 days past the warranty on receipt. Even though I am dissatisfied to get a sick bird, it wasn't petco's fault at all. They handled the situation professionally and I will continue to buy products from there. (even though its weird because the staff knows my wife and me as the "bird" people due to our persistence) read more

Petco is the only place I take all 5 of my dogs. Kelly Jackson is THE BEST! My babies love her. She is the only one who I allow to groom my babies. They always come out of there looking awesome! Before today I've had positive experiences at Sumter Petco. Yesterday I spent well over $400 to buy my wife a new aquarium and accessories. Today I went in to purchase starter or cycle fish, having Zebra Danios in mind. Carlos explained that Petco's policy was to sell Molly's, Swords or Platy's for starter fish. I went on to explain that my internet searches and father's advice (he is store manager at a Petsmart in Illinois) recommended the Zebra Danios, which happened to also be the only fish available in as large a school as we wanted. Carlos would NOT sell me the ZD's and I asked to talk to his manager. He said that he was the manager, so I asked to speak to HIS manager, who was conveniently gone for the day. The conversation ended with me thrusting my Petco Rewards card in his face and explaining that he had lost a customer for his company. I am a very even-tempered, aloof person, and to rile me up to this point is quite a feat. There will be some going up the chain tomorrow, but for now I am recommending caution when dealing with Petco and avoidance of dealing with Carlos in particular. read more
