This is not a good place for your family. I posted the following review on Google and Guinard Animal promptly responded. I appreciate their timely response and bare no malice towards these individuals. As such, you will see that I am also posting their response. They have a very difficult job to perform. However, I assure you that I have no reason to be dishonest and was indeed a client. I have vivid memories of the wooden sliding doors (with gaps between the door and floor). I also recall sitting near the glass door (facing Guinard) so that I could easily step outside if a larger ( my baby is very small) dog entered the narrow waiting room. There was never much grass but it was enough to allow my baby a quick bathroom break. I stand by the following statement with the hope that Guinard Animal Clinic will make changes as they care for Sumter and its surrounding communities. "Please don't fall for anything this veterinarian or the employees say. Many errors will occur and instead of immediately addressing them with you they will dismiss or deny what you say. Even when I chose to leave (bill fully paid). They were reluctant to give me my dogs records. My motivation for writing this review is that I spoke to a friend last week (a dog trainer) who had the same experiences as I did. Let me add that other than repeatedly speaking to the people at Guinard Clinic I moved on and have never since shared my story. For those who choose to stay. I truly wish you the best." Response from the owner 18 hours ago "While e are sorry to hear you are unhappy with us I was unable to locate a record for you at this time at our facility. If a client requests records we will provide a printed copy or email copy which ever is easier for the client when requested; so we are unsure why you would imply that we would not provide yours pet's records. We work very hard and have dedicated professionals who have committed their careers to the veterinary industry not to the dog training industry which are two different career avenues. We wish you the best moving forward and hope you are able to find a veterinary facility to fill your veterinary needs." Poor business practices and customer service. Care/treatment is nominal/satisfactory. They charge you to write scripts for medication you don't buy through them so that any money you save ordering those medications will be null. A scummy business practice for sure. Had I known this policy I would have not bothered having my wife ask for scripts but she ended up paying for it. A few weeks later when it came time to order the meds I selected to have Chewy call them, but they refuse to authorize the script over the phone and Chewy called me at 7pm Monday to tell me I had to mail in the script. I went to the clinic Tuesday afternoon to buy a single dose since I needed to give them to dogs today. I also asked to just be refunded for the scripts since we weren't really saving ourselves anything and now we have the headache of snail mailing scripts. I got a call back today from the 'head receptionist' who informs me that her manager (who should have had the professionalism to make a 2 minute phone call to speak with me directly) said they will not refund the scripts and furthermore they couldn't dispense more medication to us without us returning the printed paper scripts. So the fees were like $30 for the two scripts. We have already spent close to $1000 at this clinic and with our 6 pets likely would have ended up spending much more, which is fine we care about our pets and want them to have the car they need. However this 'policy' is treating us like criminals and scam artists. Maybe some people scalp scripts for flea and tick meds... who knows but, these aren't horse tranquillizers or anything they are parasite prevention meds for 5lb dogs. When I raised this point that they would likely lose my business over this I was told that is my option and they don't really care. So good, cya later bye. read more

My little boy, my baby pig went for a basic snip and they killed him. Their negligence cost him his life. Please learn from my mistake do not take your animal here. A pic is attached. My girlfriend got the call he was ready got him in the car and noticed it didn't look right. While in the parking lot she called them they didn't come out to take a look they brushed her off and said it was normal. This animal clinic has caused me severe heart break. If you love your animals please do not bring them here! They killed my 15 week old puppy. Treated me like a criminal because they thought he had rabies. They never asked about the rabies shot of the mother and father of the puppy until after they got Dhec involved. They gave me so much wrong information. I was reaching out for help for my little guy instead they killed him and he didn't even have rabies. I absolutely hate this place this is the second time I've gone to them this year and my puppy died as a result. I am extremely heart broken by this. One of the receptionist was extremely rude and asked me why did I bring my dog there. She called me a liar basically and treated me like a criminal and I was only trying to get my puppy help. This happened two days ago on Good Friday. I am completely distraught. Also I incurred medical bills because they told me to go to the hospital immediately. I have used them for several years and have always had great experiences. The staff is always friendly and very knowledgeable.

If I could give them zero stars I would. We have had problem after problem with them. Their prices maybe cheap but that's because they make you go back 5 million times. The vet was a jerk, my dog was having such a bad anxiety attack he couldn't finish the exam AND then the vet tried to fight me on getting a refill for my animals anxiety meds! Which was the whole damn reason for the appointment in the first place. It has been a constant fight to keep my pet on his medication. They always screw their paperwork up. The wait...every single time I have gone...is absolutely outrageous. Save yourself a lot of money and drama and do not go to this vet. read more

I normally love this vet but was very annoyed about the wait. I am a very patient person so I sat outside for 45 minutes after checking in for her 3:15 appointment. At that point, I finally called. The girl did apologize. I was told when they finally came out to get her at 4:20 they needed to get all the information for me again about what medicine she needed refilled because they had lost the information that the girl had written down when she checked me in. They had to call and see what spot I was parked in because they couldn't figure out where I was. I had gotten here about 10 minutes before my appointment so I was probably checked in about 3:05. Luckily, I have a good dog who listened and laid calmly for most of the time I was waiting. Others might not be so fortunate. Worst vet in Sumter, SC. I took my 2 dogs a 70lb German Shepherd and a 40lb Pitbull to be boarded for 5 days. They were dropped off with 6 Ziploc (Quart Size) bags of food. I returned with 4.... I was very concerned that in 5 days my dogs had only consumed one bag of food each....When my German Shepherd jumped up into my car he managed to smear poop all over my car seat which suggested he had been sitting in his own poop. After traveling to our home, I get them out of the car and my German Shepherd pooped out a pink child's sock. (just a little background, I have 3 toddler BOYS)......after speaking to an employee named Pam, she "assured" me that no one feed my dog a sock and she "assured" me that my dogs ate.....highly unlikely...on top of her unprofessionalism, she was extremely rude and very nasty. I wouldn't recommend this vet to my worst enemy's dog! read more

I've been going here for years with my pets. I have had questionable service in the past but nothing major. Recently I took my new puppy in to be spayed. I had taken her for her shots three weeks prior to this visit. She was in heat and bleeding at the time and they told me to bring her back around the 5th of the following month. I was told by their staff member that she would be out of heat by then and I wouldn't have to worry about the "in heat" charge. So I made the appointment for when they told me to, on the 5th of the following month. I went to pick her up the next day and I paid my bill, I thought it was a little high but I paid it and left. When I got home I started looking over the bill and they not only charged me an "in heat" charge but they also removed 2 teeth! I was never contacted or asked if this was OK, They just did it and charged me for it. I called up there and they said that the "in heat" charge was going to stay but they would give me half of my money back on the teeth. Half? really? I went up there and the office staff wanted me to accept only half the money back and I refused. I asked to talk to the supervisor. I guess they thought I was going to raise cane so they called me back to a room. I went in and talked to someone else, again not a supervisor. Again, they told me they could only give me half of the money back. That the supervisor had refused to give me a refund on the full amount. They kept saying the "in heat" charge was going to stay because she was still technically in heat. I told them that was fine but the doctor that I saw at the last office visit had told me when to bring her back to avoid the charge. It was then I was told I hadn't seen a doctor I had just seen an employee. I said I don't care who I talked to, the person that told me when to come back represented them as a business. But I wasn't going to argue with the charge I wanted the money back for them removing 2 teeth that they weren't asked to remove. They still insisted I would only get half of it back. So again I asked to speak to a supervisor and also asked them for both of my dogs shot records. I finally get a supervisor to talk to me. She started off again about the "in heat" charge. I said I don't care about that charge I care about the fact that they pulled two of my dogs teeth without even contacting me. She said they would give me half back because they still provided a service. I told her they provided a service that wasn't requested. She didn't argue anymore. She said she'd give me the full amount if I signed a paper saying I was terminating any further service with them. I said that's great! That was my plan. She wrote it up, gave me my money back, and I was on my way. I will NEVER go back. I'll be happy to pay the extra money when I take my pets to the vet. At least maybe they will see a real Vet and not just some employee giving false information. And hopefully they will keep all their teeth in the future! read more

NEVER AGAIN!!! I've been taking my dogs to this vet for the last 4 years, not realizing I've been getting exactly what I've been paying for - awful veterinarian care. They boast of low prices, but fail to tell you what proper treatment plans for your pet involves. To date, I've only taken my pets to them routine shots, heartworm tests and dental cleanings. This last time, I took my two dogs in for their annual dental cleaning, which cost ~$55 + ~$30 for blood work (optional), which is extremely cheap compared to the other 3 quotes I received for around ~$250/ea. Guignard failed to tell me that they do not complete x-rays for dentals, nor is this an option to check off on when completing the initial intake paperwork. The client must know to specifically ask for x-rays (at additional cost of ~$60ea x-ray). So for ~$85, all you are getting is their teeth cleaned and you will not receive a report of the overall health of the teeth, which would require an x-ray. The human eye can only see 30% of the actual tooth, while the other 70% is hidden above the gum line. So back to the visit - they take them both, clean their teeth and send them home. Once I get home, I realize that dog #1 appears to me missing a tooth. I give them a call to inquire and they advised me that they pulled not one, but two teeth! - 1) They failed to call me and get authorization to pull any teeth, 2) they did not charge me for the teeth removal or document this in my dog's records, 3) nor did they tell me during discharge that teeth were removed. Had it not been for me checking her teeth, I would have never known that my dog had teeth removed! Dog #2 had his teeth cleaned and they looked great, but his breath still smelled bad. A couple months later, I decided to take him to a different vet to explain to me why he still has bad breath even though his teeth had been cleaned. They did x-rays which proved he had gingivitis and needed SIX teeth removed due to abscesses and decay at the roots. They advised that these teeth should have been removed long before now and that dentals should never be performed without x-rays. Needless to say, the teeth were removed and the foul breath was gone with 24 hours and we have a MUCH happier dog. If you want thorough veterinarian care, consider other vet offices that do not cut corners and provide mediocre care. For routine shots, heart worm tests, fecal exams - perhaps go here. For anything else, be sure you know exactly what you're getting and do your research first - ask many questions about what service they are actually providing, call around and compare them to other clinics routines/practices. They are not doing a thorough job of maintaining excellent healthcare in their patients. Cheaper does not = better :( Sad lesson learned... read more

I have been using this office for over twenty years and they have always treated my pets well. I have used other vets in the past but the bill would be alot higher for the same treatment. I had a stray cat that had his leg cut almost off and he healed perfectly while every other vet was quoting over 2,000 my bill came in around 600.00. They have treated my dogs and cats. I had one vet in town tell me my dog had heartworms and need treatment but they had been on preventive meds so I took them to Guignard and they told me the dog did not have heartworms. I called on Monday, August 31, 2020 to schedule declawing for my cat. The woman said that the girl who does the scheduling for surgery would call me on Thursday. I did not get a call that Thursday or Friday, so I called the Tuesday after Labor Day. I told her that I never got a call. She said, "Let me see if you were on the list to be called. No, but let me get your contact information. You're on the list, so you'll get a call for sure now." Guess what, no one called me back the second week in a row. Today, makes the THIRD WEEK in which no one from this clinic has called me to schedule surgery for my cat. I went by the clinic this morning 9/17/20, to get a copy of my cat's record. I told the girl on the outside all that I experienced. She never apologized, or offered to see what the problem was in the office. She DIDN'T CARE. She just went inside to get a copy of my cat's medical record. Instead of a list of medical interventions performed, I received a print-out that said my cat was seen on a particular date. There was no mention of anything given to her, etc. Getting this clinic to be PROFESSIONAL is like pulling teeth. Also, it listed me as "No Show" for a previous time, though I specifically called and talked to their human answering service. I remember the lady trying to tell me to call when the office opens. I remember telling her that I had an emergency and needed to get on the road. She kept trying to get me to call back in 15 minutes, but I kept telling her that I could not. There is NO ONE professional associated with this clinic. That's why I'd rather spend more money for professional care and great customer service at another clinic. read more

When people are looking for a new vet they often times go online to read the reviews(I know I do). Therefore, please consider my review a WARNING for anyone who needs to take their pet to the vet. There are much better vets in Sumter than Guignard. If looking for a vet try Hudson, Palmetto or Animal Medical Clinic. My experience with Guignard: I called on a Saturday and told the receptionist I normally take my dog to Hudson Animal Clinic but they were closed and could I bring my dog in because he had a cut on his leg. They said sure but be here before 12. No problem and I rush my dog down there. When I arrive I noticed the office STUNK and the floor was dirty - it is kind of a ghetto looking place. On any normal day, I would have walked out but I take very good care of my pets and didn't want to risk any infection in the cut. I wait in line to check-in, fill out paper work, and wait more. When I am finally called they asked if I had his rabies record - No I didn't but I told them he goes to Hudson and they were closed. If I went home to get the records - they would have been closed by the time I got back. The surly receptionist told me I could either have them give my dog ANOTHER rabies shot(he had one a couple months before) or they would NOT see my dog. They could have told me on the phone or told me at check-in they needed his records but no they had to waste my time. What kind of vet office would risk the health of a dog an give an unnecessary rabies shot! I told them he would not have another rabies shot and that I would never be back...The icing on the cake was when the receptionist sarcastically yelled out..."have a great weekend"! Very sincere of her...they just sent away a dog in need of care..and told the owner to have a great weekend. I then call Animal Medical Clinic...and luckily I had just enough time to get my dog there before they closed. They were beyond helpful, didn't give me any hassle about the records and treated the cut on my dogs leg. The office was clean, the employees were nice and professional, and the clientele is more classy. My pets have visited many vet offices in different states and none have angered me more than Guignard Animal Clinic. If Guignard actually cares...they should hire classier receptionists.... read more

The worse place to bring your animals & very nasty (unprofessional workers). Took my kids dog (August 25, 2020) to get some shots b/c she was going to a boarding. My husband called before I took her & gave them the list of 3 shots she specifically needed to board. Got there told them who I was & that my husband called ahead with the list of shots she needed. They said okay & they'll be back shortly to get our dog. One main shit she needed was bordetella so she want get kennel cough (the test her for heart worms which we didn't even ask for). She did receive the other 2 correct shots. She stayed at boarding for several days came home & the next day she became ill. Took her to another vet to find out she had a real bad infection & her lungs was full caused from kennel cough!! Our dog was vomiting bad & couldn't keep any food or drink down. Mucus running out her nose & eyes, she had the worse cough ever & had no energy. My husband & I went back to the vet to talk to the manager who told us to our face "It Was Our Fault" as owners to make sure our dog got the right shots. My husband called there a day before & told them what happen, a worker went into our dog files & told him what shots he requested but when we came there the manager gonna tell us they don't have it anymore. So We ask to speak to the owner she said "She's not gonna come talk to y'all that's why she sent me, to deal with y'all!!" The manager also said they work with the boarding & do not require bordetella (which was another lie). She was not sympathetic to our situation & told us "we'll we're not gonna refund any money to you." She did not try to offer any solutions or even ask how our dog was feeling. We have absolutely lost all respect for this business & will never return again. You made the error & tried to blame it on us & the boarding!! read more

If you want detailed work done, ask and they will tell you what is being done and what it costs up front @ Radiant - why would you leave them and not ask exactly what was to be done? Do NOT use!! Had an emergency with my dog's foot; thought a string or rubber band might have been wrapped around his foot. They shaved his paw, and said there wasn't any damage to his tendons and sent us home with a cone and said to leave unwrapped and clean twice, daily. After the first cleaning, I noticed a "scab". Upon closer inspection, I seen that it wasn't a scab at all, it was the rubber band! How could they have shaved his paw and say tendons were not damaged if they didn't even see the rubber band that I seen after the first cleaning?? That was what was causing the injury in the first place and the whole reason we brought him in! SUPER NEGLIGENT! He could've lost his foot due to the vet/technician simply not taking the time and due diligence to ensure there were no foreign objects in or wrapped around the injury! I hope they put forth an effort in resolving this gross negligence, as this could've ended up a lot worse if I had not took it upon myself to check behind the "veterinarian"! read more

Dr. Cook misdiagnosed my female rabbit as well as prescribed us medicine that is good for cats and dogs, but kills rabbits, who later died after 6 days og consumption. I also took my male rabbit in and he picked him up by the scruff of his neck to put him on the table which is NOT how you pick up rabbits as this hurts them. read more

We first came to GAC when we moved to Sumter in April 2010. We brought our Siberian Husky and our new Black Lab mix puppy. Aside from the fact that they are always packed and the office stinks, everything was ok. Dr. Cook was nice enough. But occasionally we would have a different vet. When my Black Lab suddenly began limping in September 2011, we took her in and were told she had hip dysplasia. She was given a medication and that was it. She never got better on this medication (I can't remember what it was, I think it was just a narcotic for pain relief). We kept hoping she would get better, but nothing improved. Eventually, it got so bad she couldn't walk up stairs... she was only a year and a half old! So we took her back to the vet and a foreign vet (not Dr. Cook, but some young Romanian doctor) prescribed Rimadyl and Prednisone together. When I told my mom what they prescribed our dog, she was really worried because those two medications should never be mixed! They can cause gastro ulcers! And sure enough, after a week on the medication, our dog was sick. Throwing up, really lethargic, she didn't want to play at all. So we took her back to the vet, he acted like he had NO idea what we were talking about when we mentioned Rimadyl and Prednisone shouldn't be mixed. We requested the medical records of both of our dogs and switched to Dr. Gerard at Advanced Vet and have never been happier. Yes, GAC is the cheapest place in town, but at what cost? My lab could have died if we kept giving her that medication. And vet's should know better. Do yourself and your dogs a favor and choose a different vet. read more

Guignard is a vet that is seriously lacking in all aspects. Yes, the prices are low, but if something happens and your animal dies after receiving care here, you will be met with slamming doors (literally) and evasive answers when you ask what could have caused it. There is a female vet that will refuse to give you any answers and point the blame at you in your time of mourning. And PLEASE take your animal anywhere else for emergency care!!! Bringing a dog in that had died minutes earlier, I asked if there was any way to resuscitate him. The technician told me that there was no such thing as an AED for Dogs. A quick Google search proved that to be a lie. Additionally, when I came in in a time of emergency, the staff was very slow to respond and the receptionist didn't even stand up. The TGYO after hours service is also a joke. They claim to be open until 12am but after trying to contact them in an emergency and not even getting an answering machine, we contacted them the next day and were told that they decided to go home that night at 9pm. read more

In person not customer friendly...by phone they got me in the door & apparently advertised a special & though they quoted me such price & knowing that a family member had been there before they said I didn't qualify for the special b/c I was a new customer. It wasn't about the money, but principle. I won't be returning for anymore fun, but on my way to PetSmart. Thanks folks you made this decision easier...just as I dropped off the dog I actually got a call that they didn't realize she was in heat & couldn't do the spayed & though that is not necessarily a show stopper I gladly pick up my dog. I had two males to be neutered, yearly shots, and nail clippings. At first, the one young lady was not very pleasant but the other, low toned voice, young lady made up for the other's lack of pleasantry. When it was time to leave my babies, the young lady who took them from my arms one at a time was caring and understanding when "mom" was emotional about leaving them for the first time. I asked them to place the two side by side for more comfort, in which they did, I left their special food for them when they did feel like eating, and I called SEVERAL times to check on them. I truly respected the staff when they, rightfully so, informed me that they needed to stay until the next day because they wanted to send them home and them eating. The next evening, I arrived to pick up my babies, the veterinarian had done all the required check ups and updates and actually had checked my baby's teeth and one had two removed to prevent future problems with the other teeth. To me, they are my babies and to have a doctor just check or do what is specified when they observe other concerns would be unjustifiable. This team does not have to love me or my babies but the respect and understanding is what is important. Those who complain about one thing over another no one is ever completely satisfied but when you actually give credit for the positive, most likely your negative outlook on things will disappear and degrading professionals who do care would not be your light of the day. Put yourself in their shoes but all in all....if you were not happy, keep it to yourself and go elsewhere. read more
