This store is much smaller than our other option, PetSmart, across Capital, but sometimes we stop in here as it's closer to our errands. The staff have always been so friendly and helpful. We do have a Petco account so we earn points on purchases, etc. The store itself is always clean and well stocked. We typically buy FreshPet refrigerated products and noticed that this Petco has added a good section of refrigerated and frozen dog food! My experience has been positive for the last visit. 1st visit wasn't great as they were unable to get facial hair cut to my satisfaction, but I took into consideration that my boy was a puppy and this was first professional cut. Plus groomer explained the why his cut wasn't the way I expected before I even asked. Which is why I went back for a second visit that was much better. I stopped in for a random visit yesterday and was overall satisfied. This Petco is probably the smallest location I've been to and didn't have a big selection like typical Petco stores. I started shopping at Petco years ago when I learned Petsmart banned "pit bull type" dogs from their training programs. I have an APBT and a toy poodle. I'm not spending my money at a store that doesn't support my breed of dog. All has been well until today for the most part. Due to this COVID mess, everyone has been effected in many different ways, which I totally emphasize with. That is why the FIRST time the grooming Dept called me and said they had to rebook my toy poodle due to over booking, I was understanding. That was 3.5 weeks ago from the date of this post. I originally request an appointment in May, was scheduled for June, then that appointment was rebooked you today's situation. Today, I received a call from the grooming department and YET AGAIN, they need to reschedule my grooming appointment but this time it's because "Sarah" wasn't going to be able to come in. Did they offer to work him in sometime in the next week? No. Did they offer any type of solution other than offering to rebook another appointment for almost 3 weeks out? NO. My puppy, who is now 8 months old, needs a grooming badly. I have been bathing him and trimming the hair from his eyes and even shaved him once. I spend at least $200-$250 a month between food, grooming, treats and toys for my 3 animals. That's about $2400 a year. Which may not be much to some and isn't the point of my complaint, I only brought it up to point out that people choose Petco for a reason. My reason was customer service, convenience, and availability of products. After being forced to rescheduled twice, its no longer convenient and clearly the customer service is lacking. It would have been acceptable if the next reschedule dates weren't 3-4 weeks out. So if I chose to reschedule his appointment again, it would have been almost 10 weeks since my original request for grooming. How is that acceptable to Petco? I have a toy poodle puppy who needs to be exposed to grooming before he turns into a total nightmare when he finally does get groomed. Unfortunately I can't keep participating in these games Petco wants to play and being inconvenienced because they can't get people to show up for work or over book them. read more

I had a terrible experience at the Petco in Wake Forest. My 3 year old grandson got a fish tank recently. His Grandfather and I promised to buy him a fish to add to his tank when he came to visit. We went to Petco at 7:30 pm. The website and the sign on the door says that it closes at 9:00pm. We looked around a little, then decided on 2 fish. I sent my son to get the salesperson to get the fish out of the tank for us. He returned and said that the salesperson said that we could not get a fish because they were closing at 8pm. It was probably 7: 50 at this time. I was very confused to why we could not get a fish and stated that as the salesperson walked towards my family while we stood at the fish tanks. I was even more confused when the salesperson proceeded to get fish out of the tank for a Caucasian family. We explained that the fish that we wanted was in the tank directly beside the tank she was getting the other family's fish out of. She completely ignored us and would not serve us. But the other lady was able to get her fish. It would have taken 1 minute to get our fish for us. Why was the other family able to get her fish? My grandson was crushed. There were 2 other employees in the store at the time. My husband went to one of them and asked to see the manager. Imagine our surprise when we were told that the lady who refuse to serve us because it was 7:50 was the Manager! If the Manager is allowed to treat customers this way, this isn't a company I want to do business with anyway. If they were closing an hour early and refusing to serve customers 10 minutes before the closing time, they should have locked their doors and not have let us come in. When I worked in retail, regardless of what time you close, if you have customers in your store at closing time, you served them. You do not agree to serve someone standing right beside them, then treat them like a 3rd class citizen. Extremely unprofessional pet grooming service. Made an appointment for my two older dogs to get their nails trimmed. I made an appointment for my first dog (who has a heart murmur) the girl put me on hold and said she needed to check if they could work with dogs with murmurs. She came back on the phone and said okay.. made the appointments for both of them. I went to Petco three hours later which was the scheduled appointment times and they said that they could not trim the dogs nails due to the murmur. I explained to them that this was discussed on the phone a few hours before ...why didn't they tell me then ? I made the trip in the rain with my dogs ...got there to find out that they couldn't trim their nails!!! WHO runs this place??? I asked the manger to call me back in which she did. She tried to explain the policy but I told her that I understood the policy but that should have been told to me when I made the appointments. She kept on stating reasons why this could have happened but she should know as a manager that there is no excuse for such unprofessionalism. Our phone conversation kept getting disconnected for some reason and she laughed thinking it was funny. I didn't find it funny ...the last laugh will be mine . I will NEVER go into this store and they lost a customer. I would NEVER let this place EVER touch my pets so think twice before using them. read more

Awful! Awful! Awful! No one in the store, but I had to wait with 2 dogs only for the groomer to say she didn't have a haircut booked for both of them, just one. When I made the appointment over the phone I requested the same services for both. Then she looked at me, nearly thrilled, to say she just didn't have time to do both dogs today and I will reiterate, there was nobody there. I understand why everybody gives it bad reviews now. 2 stars are for the vetco prices which are good but have to keep it low since we left before getting any service... We left there very unhappy and unimpressed. I know you get what you pay for but our experience wasn't worth any savings. We walked in to a line of people with dogs there for vaccines. 1 vet, 1 tech & 1 cashier for Vetco. The tech signed us in, said 30 min and so we waited and waited and waited. Until, like idiots waited 1 hr & 45 min yet to be seen. We literally just walked right out. It was a matter of principle more than anything else. There are wonderful caring places to take your dogs that have respect for your time near Wake Forest. If you do visit this location, ask what # you are and multiply that # ahead of you by 15/20 min per dog & that's more realistically your wait. The tech set herself up for failure and they've lost a customer as a result. read more

Stay away from Petco grooming in wake forest 27587 store in NC . They are the worst groomers ever. Now I know why they haven't had groomers in a long time. Brought my 10 yrs shihtzu for a cut cause her regular groomer was backed up for 3 months and this is what they do. They charged me half price $31.06 for this ? They didn't Evan give her a bath ! They told me they couldn't finish her . I never had a problem with any of my dogs .They left hair on her belly hair on her front paws and shaved half of 1 leg and left hair that could be cut . Started the other leg and never finished. They told me I had to bring her to a vet with a groomer cause they can't use a certain blade. I think they didn't know how to do a hind leg that has a dewclaw. They are liars cause I came home got my cheap dog clippers . And I was able to shave the rest of her legs . And the best part they told me they are not allowed to use scissors ? Called corporate let's see if they call me back!!!!! Well they just lost a very good customer I'm not stepping foot in that store ever. I rather goto Petsmart to get my dog supplies . This is how they left my dog . read more

I scheduled to bring my Sharpei in for grooming with the representative and discussed the services needed. When I arrived today the Manager quoted me a higher price. When I spoke with them I was quoted a different price. I decided to go with a cheaper package. Then when I asked the manager about ensuring he get a good brushing. She advised me there was a note in the system stating they couldn't brush him with the regular system due to the last appointment. The groomer made my dog bleed, accidentally by busting some blisters on his leg and he had to be seen by a vet. I asked as his owner can he be brushed properly due to his shedding but not brush his hinds leg and was advised no. Two hours later I get a call from the groomer stating that they couldn't finish grooming my dog because he snipped the groomer. Remind you my dog is 7 years old and has never bit a vet or groomer. I was told it wasn't hard, the groomer didn't bleed but since he showed sign of AGGRESSION he couldn't come back again and they weren't able to complete the grooming. When I arrived the manager first name starts with a M was smirking at me through the window. When I explained to the groomer he has never did that. His words was he must be having a bad day. No I think because I question the manager she became offensive and I believe they did something to my dog to make him snap at him. I would never bring my dog to such unprofessional people. read more

I have a new puppy and noticed that Petco offered a puppy playtime at noon on Saturday, so I wanted to check it out. There's also a class at 2 on Saturday with a trainer that runs for 6 weeks but not sure of the cost. When I arrived at the store at noon I noticed several people walking out with puppies and once inside, I was told the class was canceled because nobody showed. It was a few minutes after 12. The guy added the class is usually canceled because nobody shows up and did I want to sign up for the other one. I guess this location uses the free class to drive traffic to the store and push the 2:00 class. They must been hard up for business. I'll buy stuff from CHEWY. read more

I was having an issue with our pet fish and when comparing the products available between Petco and Petsmart online, I found that Petco had exactly the types of products we needed to help the fish and improve our aquarium which prompted a visit to the store as we needed to fix the situation right away. While we were there, the guy working in the fish department asked if we needed help. I told him about the issue we were having and he listened and was very knowledgeable about the issue and was able to help us in selecting the most helpful products to help with the situation. He also offered the added service of testing a sample of aquarium water if needed which I did not know they offered. I left with products that were helpful and needed for our situation and ideas to help the fish and not a bunch of unnecessary items. I also feel like for future fish needs, I will more likely return to this location based on this experience. At checkout , the checkout person was very friendly and pleasant in conversation as well. I appreciate stores with knowledgeable employees that listen and care about their customers' concerns and are able to recommend the right products. My son, who happens to be gay, went into Petco last nights and while being checked out the cashier started to make fun of his hair. The cashier said,"please tell me you lost a bet." My son stood there in silence taken a back. The cashier proceeded to say that," I had to ask because no one would dye their hair like that on purpose." Petco has been declining since it first open here in Wake Forest. When it first opened it had a huge selection and tons of promos and very friendly staff. Now its the complete opposite the selection of treats is small, the never have good coupons any more and the staff NEVER gives your dog a treat. Go to Petsmart across the streat. read more
