I do love this Petco and I've been going here since I moved in and got my first dog. The employees are very nice and informative and they've always offered to help when I had dry dog food to carry out to my car. They're also very personable and carry out conversations, which is a nice touch. They didn't recently change the front end of the place. Now, I think they only have two registers. I didn't notice that they had a little adoption case for kittens/cats at the other side of the registers by the front wall. They didn't have any kitten/cats when I walked in so I don't know how new it is. read more

My dog had a grooming service done at this location - haircut, deshedding, bath.. I noticed he was scratching a lot afterwards. The scratching persisted. I applied a wet cloth to the areas to try to relief him and there were bubbles, suds that started to come appear. I then rinsed him in the bath and came to find that the soap used was not rinsed off from him. The amount of soap that came off from rinsing him was disturbing. As you can see in the pictures his skin is very agitated. I called in today to speak with management. Spoke with a gentleman who said he would have to relay the message to the manager and would call me back. I didn't receive a call back. I didn't want to leave a review but if someone can please call me to rectify this situation. This shouldn't have happened and shouldn't happen to anyone else's dog in the future. read more

As soon as I walked in and said hello, a white male groomer asked if I had an appointment (instead of greeting me and welcoming me in). I stated I had an appointment with groomer Justin K. Justin comes to the front and once again I was not greeted and instead asked for the vaccinations. I provided the vaccinations and then was asked how short you want it? The entire experience was not welcoming and to say the least simply rude. This is crucial as this experience is nerve wrecking for my dog and I. After picking up my dog with an "okay" haircut he had razor bumps/burns under his belly. My dog has been getting groomed for over 3 years now and this has never happened. Probably some of the most abhorrent customer service I've ever received. From the minute my husband and I walked into this location we were barely acknowledged by the vetco technician to check in. The technician did not weigh our dogs and abruptly walked away without even letting us know that we were checked in and to wait. Then as we were waiting off to the side out of the way, we were rudely reprimanded some random "trainer" because our dogs who were clearly anxious were crying and when she approached on of them, he barked. We were told that "the people with the big brains should know better." What a joke of a location & an absolute JOKE of customer service. You cannot expect the service to be completed if you make the stylist feel bad for their grooming service, I had a grooming service from the West Babylon location with stylist Justin. He took the dog for the service and the dog was in the middle of bath. While the dog is taking a bath, I asked a few questions, and he said he doesn't feel comfortable providing a service for me. And he took the dog out from the bath and returned. I needed to leave the location with a wet dog.. That was the appointment with reservation, and he already agreed to provide the service and the dog was in the middle of bath. At that point, he could decline the service based on the dog's condition, but not based on his mood or how he likes the customers. It was quite an unprofessional response. read more

Kicked out of grooming for showing up 15 minutes late. I left work early, drove a half hour out of the way, and apologized for the delay, but traffic being what it is, I was out of luck. Guy in grooming didn't acknowledge me for multiple minutes after I walked in. I was the only one in there but he was too overbooked to accommodate my appointment. I booked my 2-3 hour slot last week. This is my local Petco I normally I'm fairly satisfied with them. We spend a lot of money with the grooming service for our two dogs. It's gone downhill. I will add on all the services they have and I can never get them to make a dog like they did the first time. I think they changed the products and twice they cut the dogs between the toes so I'm looking for a new groomer. Otherwise, I'm fairly satisfied with Petco. It just isn't cutting it with the grooming service any longer. The staff is very pleasant though so it's just a matter of perhaps an experience. Our bulldog Maggie is not a fan of getting her nails cut, but the groomer at Petco always does her best to make her experience pleasant. You must present a rabies vaccine paper in order for them to work on your dog. I've only had her nails done there and it's a walk in service for $15, plus they check their ears. Love love this grooming location! I had trouble getting appointments at bay shore (not their fault I usually call for same day appts) but WB could fit us in, and now I take the drive to go there because the girls are so good with my pup. She's been through a lot and is anxious and fearful, which makes me dread leaving her. From the minute we walked in I could see how much the groomer wanted to make her comfortable (I wish I could remember her name, she is so sweet). My dog is afraid of loud noises and she ended up using a different dryer because the other one scared her. She called me and updated me with a longer pickup time, even apologizing for it being a little longer than expected (because she cared enough about my dogs wellbeing to adjust her normal grooming routine). Her communication and professionalism was spot on. This is the first time I can ever say I felt my dog was in good hands at a groomer. I've since gone back a few times and they are all compassionate and truly outstanding at what they do. I use the time to go shopping at the stores in the center and they call me with a heads up that she will be done soon. So glad I found them! read more

We went to get a vaccine for our cat and everyone was extremely rude. The lady checking us in for our appointment was extremely condescending telling us we should go to one closer to our home location. She then proceeded to tell us that there's no reason to get our vaccine and told us we don't need it despite our official veterinarian suggesting otherwise. Finally after arguing with her she finally decided to let us get the vaccine but swapped it to the distemper vaccine instead of the feline leukemia. Without telling us we had to remind her again which one we wanted. Then the people giving our cat the shots decided that it also wasn't necessary and argued against giving us the shot. Do not take your animals here they don't know anything and are better off paying a higher fee for a competent veterinarian crew. They will try to lie to you despite you asking for the vaccine YOU asked for and WANTED. read more

First, I want to mention that I would give five stars for the dog trainer, Jen, who is super patient and did a wonderful job in training my little girl. Second, i love that there is a discount vaccination service which is super handy because the prices can't be beat. But the vetco employees don't really seem to like their job or dogs for that matter. Whenever I've gone there, they seem to be upset that they're there and seem to have no compassion for the dogs who are nervous. My boy is a friendly dog who just wants to get a 'that's a good boy' after it's over, and they basically just say "next" as soon as they're done. I mean, they do get paid to do this right? A smile goes a long way. However, my husband took my other dog for his grooming appointment recently and it did not go well. Indeed, two days later he had developed a terrible rash from the furmintor treatment which my vet said probably meant that they hadn't disinfected the equipment hey used to groom him. Over $200 later after the vet bill, it took about two months for him to finally be infection free and for his fur to grow back. Needless to say, we won't be taking them for grooming there ever again. Next, the store seems to always be empty. Even so, there are never any employees actually in the aisles to help anyone..they seem to stick to the front of the store to talk to each other. Also, recently I went to pick up some bones for my heavy chewer and despite it being still 10 minutes until closing, i was told the store was closed when I was still picking out the bones. I made my way to the front to pay, there were two cashiers yet one of the cashiers chose to ignore me and help the lady behind me who ended up being another employee. When I paid, I didn't even get a thank you or goodnight from anyone (mind you there were now 4 employees at the front) so I quickly let myself out through the grooming section. Anyway, I know they're only retail and it was almost closing time, but still why kick out a paying customer before closing time and not even smile or wave goodnight to this paying customer. My other gripe is the prices. I feel like nothing is ever on sale and the petco prices are higher than Petsmart. Oh well, I'll stick to Petsmart down the block for my weekly shopping needs. read more

The main reason for two stars is the manager and cashier who corrected the error the grooming team made. I will not be taking my dog back there again. They cut his nails way to short and when I picked him up he still smelled as he did when I dropped him off. My dog came out in a panic and growling at me. My dogs cut was ok I liked the way his body was cut but his face cut was not what I expected staff told me she would blend his face and cut him up nice but it was a little uneven. One star for the grooming department. My wife called and cautioned them over the phone that we have a 70 lb pitbull who is excitable and really wants to play with other dogs. They booked us at 6 PM on Saturday because there wouldn't be any other dogs around. They called us that morning and asked us to move the appointment to noon on Sunday because they had another large dog they needed to groom who couldn't be around other dogs. They said that appointment would be fine for us. When we arrived on Sunday they told us to reschedule because our dog is too excitable and Sunday is the busiest day of the week. I work 70 hours a week and do not appreciate having my time wasted. Aside from that, half of the groomers seemed afraid of my dog and backed away from him even though he was just whining to play with the other dogs in the store and wagging his tail. read more

My quest for the perfect fitting dog harness for my squirmy rascal of a puppy led me to this Petco. The store was a little disorganized, but not too bad. I finally decided on a Petco brand harness. I brought it home and let my dog wear it around for a bit to test the fit and comfort. Well... less than 10 minutes later, my dog tore through the entire harness. Now, I have a TINY dog who is hyper, but by no means is he more destructive than the next dog. It takes him weeks to chew his way through a tiny bone. So, I cannot imagine he is the only dog that was able to nibble his way through the entire harness in under 10 minutes! The takeaway from this review is, the store is fine, but they seem to carry lower quality product than their competitors. I would not trust their own brand's items. If you're going in to purchase main brand stuff, than you're probably in the clear. read more

I brought my dog there for vaccinations from their vetco team. The worst experience of mine and my dog's life. It's been 48 hours and he still lives around and Yelps every time I go to touch him. The staff was not paying attention and I believe they shot him in the wrong part of his body because he has had many shots and never had this reaction before. We took our Babygirl to get groomed by Amanda. She's used to only being groomed by my grandpa but he last away 2 months ago and hasn't been groomed since. She was very matted and her hair was super long but Amanda took such great care of her. She went above and beyond to make sure Babygirl looked and smelled amazing. If I could give this location no stars I would, very dirty and disgusting salon and work environment I walked into petco to make an appointment for my dogs and before I even walked into the salon I noticed nobody was even in there but it sounded like there was 20 dogs in the back. I noticed that there was two groomers that came back in to the salon from a smoke break I believe. So I walked around the store to be courteous to let them get back into the swing of things, as I walked my way back up front the one girl already had a dog up on the table and the other was walking out of the salon again with a e cigarette in her mouth. She walked out when she saw me walking into the salon and let me tell you it stinked of urine and poop as soon as you walked through that door , the other groom gave me a nasty look when she saw me so from that point I knew I wasn't even going to bother bringing in any of my dogs into this disgusting work place . The dog groomers have no idea what they're doing and woud rather screw everything up than listen to instructions. We took our maltipoo to get a trim but instead wound up with a completely shaved dog. They even shaved his tail, but left all the hair on his head intact. When confronted with the atrocity, they simply shrugged it off with "whoops". Literally, "whoops". read more
