I am writing this review so other pet owners can make an informed decision and avoid what happened to my dog. I took my dog, Abbie, to Petco for grooming on Thursday. When she came home, she had a raw, open skin injury near her hip and tail that was absolutely not present before the appointment. The area was bright red, inflamed, and painful looking--consistent with a grooming-related injury such as clipper burn or a grooming-triggered hot spot. This is not a minor irritation. It is a visible, open wound that now requires monitoring and veterinary care. Seeing your dog injured after trusting a grooming service is upsetting and unacceptable. What is even more concerning is learning that Petco has an ongoing history of complaints and legal action related to grooming injuries, including a widely reported class action lawsuit. Had I known this beforehand, I would never have brought my dog there. I am posting this so other pet owners do not make the same mistake. Please do your research. Ask hard questions. And if you value your pet's safety, consider taking your business elsewhere. Pets cannot advocate for themselves. We have to do it for them. The only reason this isn't a 5 star is because they charge an exam fee every time even when it's not the doctor seeing your pet. My follow up shot was done by an intern and they still charged full prize for the exam, I think that's ridiculous and now to avoid that whenever I make appointments I make sure to call and let them know I want the actual vet to be the one there not an apprentice. I come for the vetco clinic vaccines and they are pretty good and economical if you looking for a budget friendly clinic, but also to get the things your animal needs. I buy supplies here for my pet and i love how you can save and the coupons you get once you use your number. My pup went today to their vetco hospital for the first time and honestly my pup like many owners see their pets as family and because of different things i was nervous. From the front desk, nurses, and Dr. Boules, just everyone was amazing and extremly understanding and willing to ease my mind. There are people with bad reviews. But i honestly recommend this petco for all its departments. My pup is using sabrina as his trainer and she is extremely knowledgable and understanding and just very helpful. He is not done with his training yet but im sure once he is he will be great cause of sabrina. You may sometimes encounter a bad experience one day because no store is perfect but i feel like this is one of the best stores. Remeber people are allowed to have bad days, we have them also. I normally don't like writing reviews because I understand that this is someone's job and everyone can have a difficult day. However, the situation I experienced was so unpleasant and unprofessional that I felt it needed to be shared. My experience with the receptionist at Vetco Total Care in Yonkers was very disappointing. When I arrived for my dog's appointment, I was only 4 minutes late, yet she repeatedly told me I was "extremely late." What made this even more frustrating is that when I walked in, she was on the phone for about 7 minutes helping other customers and did not acknowledge me at all. I understand that staff can be busy, but it felt unfair to be told I was extremely late when I had already been standing there waiting for her to finish her call. Her attitude also came across as if she was the owner of the place rather than someone trying to help resolve the situation. After going back and forth, she first told me that they couldn't see my dog at all, but then said the only option would be for them to take my dog to the back and that I would not be able to speak with the doctor because I didn't write any concerns in the appointment notes. Throughout the entire conversation she kept emphasizing that I was "extremely late." I drove 45 minutes to get to this appointment in terrible weather, so the lack of empathy and professionalism was really disappointing. I completely understand that clinics have policies and schedules to follow, but the interaction was handled with a very nasty attitude instead of basic customer service. Even if they truly couldn't see my dog, it would have been much more helpful to be treated respectfully and offered options to reschedule rather than being spoken to the way I was. I hope the clinic works on improving how front desk staff communicate with clients, because no one should feel dismissed or spoken to this way when they are simply trying to care for their pet. read more

She did a neat and clean sanitary trim and managed to do his nails. He's so nervous when he hears the buzzer or the nail grinder, but she was great with him. I re-booked for today and was told to return to pick up my puppy in two hours. I return and they say he is not ready yet- he is "drying" from his bath come back in "maybe" another hour. I could hear him yelping in the back room. I asked if I could just take him then- answer was no- they need to "finish" him too. No one called me to change the pick up time. The attitude of the groomers was not pleasant- no apology for the delay, rather they looked frustrated and over-whelmed and were complaining about how busy they were. Came in to do a return for a leash. Sales associated said he couldn't do it because I didn't have the the email with the barcode. I had both receipts with the order number and that it had been picked up and paid. He said he couldn't do it and said he would have to call customer service. Then he said he can't do it, so I offered to call customer service. So I spent 15 minutes on the phone doing his job. Eventually customer service all they need is the order number. I told them I have it to the person at the store 20 min ago. She got on the phone with the sales associate and said she would refund the money. There were two male groomers on site and a customer waiting. The groomer sitting down, asked if I could be helped. I took my dog for grooming twice and both times they knocked him. Unacceptable. I will not be going there again!

Went in for the first time where I scheduled an appointment in advance and waited 25 minutes to be called. While waiting, the people in front of us were informed by the employee that he would only do a trim and not a haircut because it was the dog's first time and that it would be 3-4 hours. They were shocked because of the timeframe and that their dog was calm and well behaved with the employee. When it was finally my turn, thinking that their dog would take longer because of the haircut, I was told that it will be over 4 hours to have a bath done because they have 14 dogs ahead of mine with only one person staffed. Not his fault that he was the only person, but why have appointment slots if they are overbooked? Doesn't make sense. Asked to have nails trimmed instead and said that would be at least 3 hours. Didn't want to leave my dog crated in the back for hours for something that I could get done somewhere else a lot quicker. Overall not a great experience and a waste of time. I went in for a groomers appointment with my medium size dog. The groomer picked my dog up very awkwardly (never once did a professional groomer pick my dog up like that) and of course my dog reacted. I didn't think anything of it until the groomer rudely told me to take my dog and leave. First of all, my dog NEVER bites. My dog is a sweet marshmallow. If he had tried again and actually just escorted my dog like any other groomer, it would have been fine. My dog is not a small dog and should not be picked up like that, EVER. I think this particular groomer is very unprofessional and honestly should not be working with any type of animal. I went here about a month ago despite the fact that my wife told me that to because of the price was so cheap I turned out to regret it!!!!! What an awful journey we've had with this location. I'm sure they have great people working there, but I haven't met them I guess. I took my 3 pound Yorkie here for grooming (haircut and bath) and he got fleas for the first time ever. I thought maybe it wasn't there. Maybe it was just from his walks outside. They also didn't cut his hair properly. I decide to give them another chance recently. I go in for a haircut (tried to be more specific so they could know exactly what I wanted) and a bath. We also paid extra for teeth cleaning and nail buffing (the full service already includes nail clipping). When we picked up the dog he looked like a rat. Worst haircut I've ever seen, but at least it can grow back. Today we had to take the dog to the vet because he had a yeast infection in his ears from them not drying his ears properly. The vet also had to cut his nails and brush his teeth because it seems like this store never did! He hasn't been out or wet since his last visit to this location so he obviously got it because of them. No care or attention to detail whatsoever. The vet recommended to never go back and we won't. Finally learned our lesson. I just wished that as a new person to this country I knew how unprofessional their grooming services actually are. read more

Our local grooming place closed and so we tried this place out for a start. I dropped off our dog and within ten minutes they called back saying that our dog had a sore on his body and that we needed to pick him up asap. Israel was yelling at my wife and was extremely unprofessional telling her that we had to pick him up now. It is still unclear whether he had a sore or if they cute him by accident. When I picked him up they had just hacked his hair off and left him this way. This was the worst experience ever and I will not be back. Israel was very rude and lacked basic customer service. When you walk in you'll see groomers who are clearly not happy to be there. They are speaking harshly to the dogs and complaining loudly to each other. The animals seem petrified and they do nothing to soothe them. Also, an appointment time does not guarantee you won't have to wait. I'd scheduled a time for my dog and when I arrived they said the groomer took his lunch, but they could put my dog in a cage for 30 minutes until he came back. This, combined with the crying animals I heard in the cages, pushed me to leave and I won't return. read more

Certainly wish the workers would spend less time being aggressive and mean and maybe more time cleaning out the habitats of their animals. Hamsters and guinea pigs are usually in their own filth. Heaven forbid they regularly change the bedding. The workers can be extremely rude and forget about calling ahead of going to the store because they'll just waste your time either way. I feel bad for the animals there, they just do not get the attention they need. As far as the selection of dog food they carry a wide variety but do not carry the Pedigree brand. Words cannot describe how upset I was when picking up my dog from the groomers at the Petco Yonkers location. I have a golden doodle breed and she usually has a lot of hair, very curly and thick. This is normal for this breed. In the past, I have taken her to other locations and they would inform me about some places where there was matting and because of this the process would take a little longer than usual. When I picked her up my dog still had hair on her body and head where they were able to put a bow on her. However, when I took her to this location they told me she had some matting behind the ears and legs and that's it! Which is less matting then when I took her before to the other location. But when I went to pick her up about 2 hours later my dog was completely bald! I have never seen a golden doodle completely shaved like that and I wished they would have contacted me before the just shaved all her hair off. I could have just shaved her at home instead paying over $100 for them to do that. I do believe they were just being lazy and did not want to put the detangling conditioner on my dog like the last location and was impatient with her like unprofessionals. I could not take her to the location I liked before because of their availability but from now on I know this is the last location I will be going to again. read more

Went to Petco on Oct 1st, 2350 Central Park ave, Yonkers, to return 2 guinea pigs I purchased about 1 month ago. I didn't want any money back. Turns out I was highly allergic and needed a visit to emergency room for respiratory treatment. We explained our situation to the manager Grisel. She told us they were expecting 6 guinea pigs that week and wouldn't take them back. There was a a empty cage but she didn't care our circumstances and refused. We explained that it was recommended medically to remove the pigs from the house. She didn't care. I called several petcos to return them but none would take them. Being very irate, I told her I had to let them go and she then accused me of being inhumane and yet she didn't care I was in a medical situation that warranted removal of these ginea pigs promptly. Ironically the staff wore shirts that announced their commitment to humane treatment of all animals. Imagine !!! I truly loved them but needed to protect my health and yet Petco didn't care !!! or did the manager of that store !! Imagine a pet store that has such a terrible policy !! A PET STORE !! Go to Petsmart right there on central ave , 2458 central ave. We went there in desperation and explained our situation and guess what!! Loving all creatures, they accepted them, thankfully. Remember this , you will never know extraordinary circumstances that warrant a desperate situation !! Petco had told me ,upon purchasing them, that we could return them at any time.
