They mentioned they would submit a claim to Delta Dental so I can be reimbursed for the difference, but since they're now out of network, the fees are about 225% higher. Jocelyn, the receptionist, said she would forward my concern to the office manager, though it sounds like there may not be much that can be done. They noted that they tried to call about a week before my appointment likely to confirm my appointment but I changed my phone number nearly a year ago. They said they would've told my by phone that they no longer take my insurance. My response was, they should have told me when I checked in, before my service to give me an option to move forward with them. I feel it's very unfair not to notify patients in advance when such a significant change affects billing and coverage. Unfortunately, I'll be canceling my upcoming appointments for myself and my family.

Sure. And while I was doing that, I added my original review here. Of note, I've never had many dental problems, so I didn't have much to base that initial impression on, although on a recent visit he suddenly suggested a lot of expensive gum work (that I am opting to wait on). Since my first review, I think he's on his third hygienist and the website's description makes me think the one working there now is yet again different, so maybe on #4. That's a little worrisome. One positive is that they've always run pretty close to on time. My biggest beef is that I originally selected this dentist because, according to our insurance plan's preferred provider list, the former dentist took was listed. I called Shimp's office and was assured that I'd be covered because they were working on getting enrolled on the plan, too. It wasn't until later that I realized that they never enrolled. Preventive care is covered by insurance regardless, so it wasn't until a family member had to pay big out of pocket cost that I realized I'd been misled. I mentioned this and didn't get as much as an apology. Also, on my last visit, the billing person told me we had overpaid and that they'd send us a refund for that amount, but they never did. Too bad, because I thought this place was promising, but I'm looking for a new dentist now.

My tooth had been bothering me for a few days. I knew I was delaying a cavity filling, so I called to make an appointment, and was booked for the next day. The procedure was painless, quick, and effortless, and the background music put me at ease. (Luckily I was there during Christmas season!) Parking is easy, they're on time (rare for Tahoe), and Dr. Baldwin is an artist who is committed to your health and appearance. I needed to find a new dentist as my old one of 20 years does not take my new insurance plan. This place takes all sorts of dental insurance and will show you a cost spreadsheet of the real costs so there's no surprises. The staff here is super accommodating and knows their stuff. The dentist Dr. Graber was friendly and let me know exactly what was gonna happen. I came in for an initial exam as a new patient. X-rays were done digitally and the resolution was so clear on the screen! They even have a super mini camera that takes a vid of your teeth close up so the doctor and YOU can see what's going on. He explained and showed me everything. I needed a new crown and a filling replaced. I was shown in detail on the screen what it looked like exactly and shown the cracks even on the old filling, so I knew it was really there. The filling was painless to replace and the crown was gonna be made right there in the office on this high tech digital machining device. No waiting a few weeks for a dental lab to make the crown and then come back again to have it installed. Ok, there's a $75 charge to do it the same day in the office, but that's well worth it! The crown went in easy, the machine took maybe 45 min to make it. I watched the doctor program the machine on the screen with a digital image of my teeth. My old dentist wasn't THIS high tech! I walked out with a new crown and filling and my insurance covered it all, except $75 to use that fancy crown making machine. Now I have cleanings scheduled here too. I like going to the dentist now!

I don't mind the drive for a good experience. The hygienist has been great and the dentist, Dr. Wildman, has been to the point and clear. I have always hated the dentist but I haven't loathed going to this office as much as others. My last dentist tried to tell me I had all kinds of issues and needed expensive treatment to fix the problems, but this office has been realistic and hasn't tried to upsell unneeded treatments. Scheduling has been easy and they send plenty of appointment reminders. You can complete all paperwork in advance online or at their office on one of their computers. They have top of the line tech and make both dental work and clerical work a breeze. As long as nothing crazy happens with insurance billing or upcoming appointments, I expect this review to stand at 5 stars. I recommend Arrowhead Dental Center for your dental needs!
