Pretty cute location definitely an old school vibe! I got the ice cream soda and was pretty good! Maybe a little overpriced in my opinion. Wish they had root beer floats here!

Nice neighborhood ice cream shop with quality hard scoop style ice cream. The staff is friendly but usually only has one person working.

Local ice cream shop in Oak Park, located right in the corner. Overall visit was just ok, the staff here are not friendly at all. Ice cream is not a name brand and melts very fast. We had the ice cream inside the business, so the heat would not affect the ice cream. We tried the banana split (Ice Cream flavors were vanilla, chocolate, strawberry), and 2 one scoop Sundae (Ice Cream flavor Blue Moon) . It was nothing special, and you choose your own toppings.

Well I passed by this area several times despite knowing certain ice cream parlors in oak Park Illinois. There were two good ones and I had a craving for banana split. Unfortunately I did not know they close over rice in oak Park and I was going to get their banana Royale. The brown cow which is a competitor so this and oberweis the major team was a little too far for me to travel for ice cream on a motorcycle. So far the banana split was actually decently delicious. Service was really fast and courteousness despite being a busy Friday with kids and the weather being nice. Ambiance felt similar to the brown cow ice cream parlor an oak Park with another ice cream parlor. The only thing about this ice cream parlors are very traditional and they don't have other unusual flavors compared up oberweise and the brown cow ice parlor. otherwise this is now going to be one of my choices when I go to oak Park and want ice cream. Probably if they had much more unusual flavors into traditional ones I would give them four stars.

Banana split ($7.10) with three scoops of your choice, plus whipped cream, nuts, and a cherry on top!

THE 7-10 (BANANA) SPLIT This old timey ice cream parlor still serves plenty of hand scooped treats as it nears the century mark. I love family owned business, especially those in Oak Park. Though recent trends have brought in more corporate stores to the area (the Target on Lake St), a smattering of places like Petersen's have withstood the test of time. They've been around since 1919 which means they'll be celebrating their 100th anniversary next year, an incredible feat. The parking lot off of Chicago Ave is small, but there's plenty of tables to sit at outside plus a few inside. Selection is fantastic: everything from plain chocolate to praline pecan, mint chip to moose tracks, bubblegum to birthday cake. A single scoop is $3.25 and a double is $4.75. You can get it in a waffle cone or take a pint home, plus they offer malts and floats. Always a sucker for a banana split -- about $7.10, coincidentally -- we picked out a trio of flavors and toppings (not that you'd care, but it was strawberry + french vanilla + cookie dough topped with fresh strawberries, peanuts and whipped cream). Heavenly. Perhaps it's because Petersen's is crazy old, but the commitment to health & cleanliness isn't super. I saw a partially-eaten milkshake just chillin' (literally chillin') inside one of the freezers for no particular reason! Puddles of melted ice cream here and there, flies buzzing around.....ehh. Another reviewer mentioned a woman working here who didn't smile at all, and that's who we got. I'm sure between all of the finicky parents and little kids screaming for free samples, it wears on your patience. She seemed annoyed by having to make our complicated banana split :( :( * TL;DR * Petersen's makes an excellent companion to the Giordanos' directly across the street. Deep dish pizza & ice cream go together like.....I dunno, Peaches 'N Herb. Or Salt 'N Peppa. Or Sniff 'N the Tears because why not? A perfect pairing on a hot summer's eve. Support your local business owners and stop by Petersen's today! (also feel free to flip off Coldstone Creamery and their $18 "love it" concoctions while you're at it)

I definitely have to try the pizza next time though, my neighbor told me it's fantastic. He also turned us on to the homemade gelato which was a great recommendation. My wife got the coconut flavor with what I believe were almond and chocolate pieces mixed in. It was fantastic and the perfect way to finish the meal. I had a great espresso along with the gelato. The service was quick, friendly, and welcoming, which made the whole experience even better. Overall, we had a great meal and a really enjoyable visit. We'll definitely be back. Next time, I'm trying that pizza!

Some of the food is premade but fresh and sits in a food display case that is ready to be heated after ordering. I came for the gelato! I had mango and raspberry gelato in a small cup for $7. Gelato always seems to be pricey for such a small amount. I thought it was good, but nothing spectacular. Before leaving a decided to get a slice of cheese pizza to go. The pizza was also fine. I wanted to like everything so much more because of the authentic Italian feel of this cafe. I will have to return and possibly try eggplant parm, margherita pizza, or a pasta dish for a more thorough eval before writing this charm full cafe off.

Please make sure you are writing a review for the Touhy Fruity in the HIP MALL. Anyway, this place has GREAT food. The spicy ramen and shrimp springs rolls go hard. Bubble tea is delicious. However, service takes FOREVER. I called in for 3 items, came by around 20 minutes later like they said, and I still had to wait about 10-15 more. Whenever I'm on my break (I work at this mall) and get a bubble tea, I spend half my break just waiting for it. Might as well go to the FroYo place 2 stalls down if I wanted quicker service. If the problem is being understaffed, why not just hire more people? I didn't see a hiring sign anywhere. That being said, although slow, the employees ARE friendly. The girl with red/orange hair who pronounces "cilantro" in a Spanish accent is my favorite. Super kind, very approachable, very cool. Also like the guy who looks to be about in his late 20s-early 30s, pale, facial hair, maybe was a cook? I've only seen him once but I really liked his attitude and the way he spoke to me when orders seemed to get mixed up. NOT a fan of the older man who works here. He made things a little complicated, when I asked him for a mall employee discount he said "Oh, we don't do that anymore. No one does!". ?????. This mall has been doing this for YEARS, what are you talking about? All of a sudden we've stopped? I got the feeling he was lying. When I looked over at the other employee working they also looked at him weird, which confirmed my suspicions. When they were prepping my order he seemed to mix things up and confuse everyone, including me, the person who MADE the order. I will not be ordering if I see this man behind the counter again. Overall, very good establishment, unfortunately some hiccups here and there. Hope the slow service issue is fixed at some point.

Café with Turkish Sweets and Drinks…read more This café has plenty of seating and offers a variety of Turkish desserts, candies, coffee, and specialty drinks. I ordered the Ube Matcha Latte and a small knafeh to go. The service was excellent--the staff patiently answered all of my questions and made me feel welcome. Ube Matcha Latte (3.5/5 ) - I ordered it without ice, so I didn't get the beautiful color gradient I was hoping to see, but it still tasted great. I especially liked that it wasn't overly sweet. Knafeh (4/5 ) - This was my first time trying knafeh. I think it would taste even better if you eat it in the café, where it's served on a hot metal plate that keeps the cheese warm and melted. It has a unique texture--a chewy layer of melted cheese on the bottom, topped with grainy pancake like layer, then finished with crushed pistachios and sweet syrup. It was a fun and delicious dessert to try.

This caught me completely by surprise…read more My friend and I just wrapped up having dinner and were looking for a place we could enjoy a desert that was something other than the usual boring ice cream or cake. I looked up Google for ideas and came across the TAJ Coffee House which was only a few minutes away from where we dined. The photos looked impressive, but I had absolutely no idea what was to come. We walked in and were immediately greeted by Shams and Louai. Their warmth and great personalities made my friend and I feel instantly welcomed and valued. To the right of the shop, our eyes were drawn to a wall of gorgeous, colorful Turkish candies which were a mind-blowing experience to behold. This, plus an elegant, large, comfortable sitting area with sumptuous gray cushioned chairs, lovely chandeliers and beautiful decor set TAJ far and above any coffee house we have ever seen --- and we've seen many! When we walked to the counter, Shams and Louai were so helpful and accommodating as we asked questions about all the astonishingly beautiful pastries, cakes and candies in the glass cases before us. Everything in front of us was unbelievably appetizing to the eye and nearly all were items we had never seen before. My friend and I settled on a variety of "Turkish Delights" and "Turkish Sweets" to get out feet wet, and we loved each and every selection we ordered. We ate a pistachio baklava which was the finest we ever had. I also tried a cake which had a dark reddish glaze and was similar to tres leches but far superior. We also sampled a variety of candies and nougats that were transcendent. One candy, in particular, was rolled in dried, chopped rose petals and was my absolute favorite. I had to order a few more to take home. For drinks, we tried their lotus milkshake which was magnificent. The types of drinks TAJ offers is extraordinary. They range from various hot and cold coffees (including Turkish) to iced shaken espressos, matcha drinks, Turkish teas, Dubai chocolate drinks, frappe, smoothies, juices and glorious mojito-style concoctions. As mentioned earlier, my friend and I had no idea what to expect from this but came out of TAJ stunned by the spectacular offerings within. The flavors we encountered were unlike anything we ever experienced before, and we will definitely make the TAJ Coffee House a regular place to savor over and over again. Once more, special recognition must be given to both Shams and Louai. They are ideal ambassadors for TAJ Coffee House and need to be recognized for it. They provided wonderful customer service and were kind, professional, knowledgeable and welcoming. Perfection!
