The four of us were heading to Oak Park from the Northwest Suburbs on our way to a Candlelight Concert at the Art Center of Oak Park. We passed Petersen's Ice Cream on the way and began discussing the last time we had visited this ice cream parlor and then agreed we'd stop on our way back. The show ended and we headed to Petersen's. Three of us ordered a scoop in a cup each. One got butter pecan, another got cinnamon, and I got peach. I gotta say, the peach was creamy, filled with large chunks of peaches, and is insanely delicious. It was very refreshing! The woman working behind the counter has been there since 2003. She's gad a nice run in a place that has been around since 1919. Having done no research whatsoever, and not knowing if they've occupied the same space all that time; the one true thing I can say with 100% certainty is that Petersen's Ice Cream is fantastically awesome and needs to be visited more than they are now. And get the peach, it's damn good!

We stopped in here after eating a delicious dinner next door at La Guerrerense which was amazing by the way. Luckily for me they did offer it. You would think a name with Morelia in it should be offering it. It was fairly priced and tasted very similar to the one I had in Morelia. This version came with mango; pina, cucumber mixed in with orange juice and chile and topped with cotija cheese. You can also probably customize it, which I'll definitely be doing next time. It's so good and I highly recommend people to try it. Will definitely be returning.

My husband happened to find this place after our usual famous tamale place was closed on a Monday. I travel far for green tamales and on one Monday they happened to be closed. I called my husband to tell him I had no tamales for him. He quickly searched the area and found El Rincon. We ate these delicious tamales and I knew they were the real deal. My husband is so proud of himself for finding El Rincon. The lady who works there is the nicest lady. I haven't tried any of the other food but if you need green tamales, this is your place.

It's part of the character of our city and I'd love to stop at each one, but they're too numerous to even try to do that. But last week, I took my car in for repairs and right next to the Goodyear store was this gem that I decided to try while waiting for an Uber - which ended up being my brother who gave me a lift when I discovered that Uber prices at that time were three times higher than what I had previously paid. It was early in the afternoon and what attracted me was the tamale sign outside. Homemade tamales are a real treat to me, so I decided to try a small sampling and ended up with four different ones. Some chicken, some pork, one pretty hot ( I stayed away from ordering too many spicy ones as "hot" is widely interpreted, so I wanted to catch a glimpse of the definition of mild here first!). The tamales were good - glad I tried them. I also picked up some tamales for my brother's family along with a ham and cheese quesadilla for him - he's a bit of a lightweight when it comes to spicy food. But these items were among dozens of different offeringa the place had. Desserts aplenty and several varieties of tortas, all of which looked delicious. But my favorite part about the place was the staff. The young woman who helped me was pretty new to the place and had a cheerful and vibrant personality. Another woman who came out from the back and seemed to be an owner or manager also answered many of my questions and she was happy and helpful as well. Awesome, positive service experiences seem to be fewer and farther between these days, so when I come across one, I'm truly appreciative. This place opens at 4AM, so they're now on my "stop in" list when I'm on my way home from work in the morning.

And a great selection of ice cream to choose from. We were a bit in a hurry and I didn't want to mess with ice cream and a toddler on the move, so I got a hot chocolate for us to share. It's unlike any hot chocolate I've ever had--it's hot, but they make it with ice cream so that first sip or two is both hot and cold. It is delicious and delightful and may be my new favorite hot chocolate. As the weather warms up and we head out here for swim lessons and whatnot, I'll look forward to stopping by for ice cream, which is my favorite. And I'm definitely checking out their ice cream cakes because I'll bet the little ones would love it!
