For all those that have not been to this Festival, I have to question your planning when you visit…read moreLouisville, but that is for another day. I was only there one day, but you can experience a lot in 10 hours. I had the best time of my life at the festival. It's located in a small town called Bardstown, but those of us Bourbon enthusiasts, we know it as the Bourbon capital of Kentucky. It is your typical festival style setup with white canopy tends lined up with both food, beverage and unique collectibles offered by local artists. They set up carnival food trailers on one end where you can enjoy all your typical carnival foods from burgers to hot dogs, BBQ, fried everything and of course can't forget the sugar confections of the ice cream trucks. I caution you to walk through this area without wanting to indulge in everything they offer. Adjacent to them was the main stage where local musicians entertained the crowds at all hours throughout the four day festival. Just because it says Bourbon in the name doesn't mean that is all that is offered as there were beer tents and may have been some wine options as well, but I did not head over to that area. I believe I even saw an entire field of bouncy houses for the kids. I decided to experience the festival from the VIP loft. Location on the third floor of a building containing bourbon history, I enjoyed the luxuries of their lounge, food at any given time and a private bar that would mix up your favorite bourbon style drinks (included in your ticket costs). The great part is you can spend time in the loft, head back down to the festival, enjoy the other festivities and the distilleries onsite offering specialty drinks using their bourbon (you do have to pay for these drinks and there was a ticket booth where you could purchase drink tickets). After an hour or so, I would head back upstairs and enjoy more food, drinks, relaxation along with the A/C and our own private bathroom. I kept going back and forth for the 10 hour duration of the festival that day. This is a must stop for any Bourbon enthusiast as it provides an opportunity to mingle with locals, out of state visitors, festival volunteers, local distilleries and you get to enjoy drinking bourbon while having food and listening to music. What is there not to love?

**Extremely Disappointed with the Kentucky Bourbon Festival 2026**…read more After spending thousands of dollars to attend the 2026 Kentucky Bourbon Festival, including purchasing VIP packages specifically because they were advertised as providing an elevated and exclusive experience, I have to say that this year's festival was an enormous disappointment\. The biggest issue was the **"exclusive bourbon" experience**\. When someone pays a premium price for a VIP package, there is a reasonable expectation that the bourbon selections will be genuinely special, thoughtfully chosen, and worthy of the price being charged\. Instead, the selections left me asking, *"This is what we paid thousands of dollars for?"* The bourbon offered did not come close to matching the expectations created by the VIP marketing\. What is even more frustrating is the apparent **lack of appreciation for the patrons who are spending serious money to attend this festival**\. VIP customers are not simply buying a ticket--they are investing thousands of dollars in the Kentucky Bourbon Festival, traveling, paying for hotels, transportation, meals, and additional events because they believe the festival will deliver a first\-class bourbon experience\. Those customers should be treated as valued patrons, not as an afterthought\. The festival seems to have lost sight of a very basic principle: **if you charge premium prices, you need to deliver a premium experience\.** Calling something "exclusive" does not automatically make it exclusive\. VIP customers should receive bourbon selections, access, hospitality, organization, and overall treatment that clearly justify the substantial additional cost\. Unfortunately, my experience in 2026 felt much more like paying a premium price for the *promise* of an exceptional experience rather than actually receiving one\. The Kentucky Bourbon Festival has built an incredible reputation and has the opportunity to be one of the premier bourbon events in the country\. But that reputation cannot be sustained by simply raising prices and attaching the word **VIP** to a package\. The people who are willing to spend thousands of dollars to attend deserve substantially better\. **For 2026, I cannot recommend the VIP experience\.** Until the festival demonstrates that it genuinely values its highest\-paying patrons and significantly improves the quality and exclusivity of its bourbon offerings, I will think very carefully before spending that kind of money on this event again\. **Premium price\. In April 1862, New Orleans had fallen to Union forces. General Butler heard countless stories of his men being insulted by the New Orleans women. One example, Naval commander David G. Farragut had the contents of a chamber pot emptied on his head from a Confederate woman in an upstairs window as he walked down the street. In response, Butler issued General Orders Number 28 on May 15, 1862 to counter these disrespectful gestures. It stated, "As the Officers and Soldiers of the United States have been subject to repeated insults from the women calling themselves ladies of New Orleans, in return for the most scrupulous non-interference and courtesy on our part, it is ordered that hereafter when any Female shall, by word, gesture, or movement, insult or show contempt for any officer or soldier of the United States, she shall be regarded and held liable to be treated as a woman of the town plying her avocation." This implied the women of New Orleans would be treated as common prostitutes (allowing the men to grope or rape the women) if they made disrespectful comments or gestures toward Union soldiers. Butler earned the nickname, "Beast Butler," and achieved notoriety as a target at the bottom of a chamber pot.

My work tends to use Maywood for every gathering we have. I had the sirloin with a side salad, roasted potatoes and green beans. The sirloin was cold. I couldn't even bring myself to eat it, it was so cold. Everything else wasn't exactly hot either. It was very disappointing because I feel like had it been hot it would be been so much better. I couldn't eat it all and filled up on salad and rolls.

Road to Bethlehem- a drive thru experience is a unique and vastly different annual holiday event…read moreheld at the bullitt county fairgrounds off the clermont exit. This is more of a religious event. This free event has You pull in with your vehicle and drive up to individual stations where they have people dressed up and they act out parts of Jesus Christ journey from birth to his death. The place features cool set designs and costumes. There are multiple drive up stations and at each station the actors deliver there lines and interact with the patrons of the vehicle and usually wish you a merry Christmas on the way to the next station. The event is only held one weekend of the holiday season and props to the actors as it has to be cold as it all done outside in the weather elements during a 6pm-8pm night time frame. Also there are several cars that come through and they have to repeat there lines for each individual car. Our favorite part was probably the part where they give you two "gold coins" at the beginning and warn you of Roman guards who block your path to Bethlehem and urge you to use the gold coins for safe passage. The actors and our kids had a lot of fun with that part. Being that this is an individual per car live play experience this Does take some time to go through. We arrived right at 6pm to a line that back up just to the entrance of the fairgrounds and it took 90 min to go through. So be patient. It's a long wait but when you factor in what this is it's very understandable. Plus it's a free event. So hopefully people don't harp on the long waits and appreciates the volunteers. Another important note or disclaimer to consider is while yes this is a holiday event, It is very much a religious event only. So if one was just looking for lights and Santa clauses they would not enjoy this. This whole production is strictly the story of Jesus. So if you aren't religious or if you just don't particularly like religious shows or history then this will not be for you. Overall very unique and different holiday event. I could see some of the younger kids may get bored or frustrated. My kids enjoyed it and appreciated what it took for the workers to make this free event happen. Is this something I'll comeback to every year? Probably not unless they switched up the show. But it's probably worth revisiting every few years. Once again I can't give enough props to the several volunteers who bare the cold and stretch there vocal cords on the weekend this event takes place.

We traveled to Bardstown again to see the Sound of Music at this venue. Sometimes there are…read moreseasonal productions in addition to the Stephen Foster story. This show was great with a large cast of talented performers. I even recognized a few familiar actors from other venues (lead actor has performed this past year at Derby Dinner Playhouse in Clarksville). We were seated in the 6th row center and audio and visuals were all wonderful. We are looking forward to returning here for future events.

We went to the show with some friends and had a great time on opening night of 2021! When I bought…read moreour tickets, I was offered a choice of seats in the middle of a row, but with a good view of the stage, and the theater was not going to be full. When we arrived we discovered that the show had sold out, so we had to climb over more people to get to our seats in the middle of the row, but they were still good seats. Our friends had never before seen the show, it had been decades since Hubby or I had last seen it, and we all enjoyed the experience. The singers wear microphones and are heard over the sound system, a change from when Hubby was in the cast. Some of the dialogue is also different from decades ago, but the changes do not distract from the purpose of featuring of Foster's music. After the show we had an unexpected surprise of an Independence Day weekend fireworks display! The fireworks were beautiful and we enjoyed them too!

Not sure if Etown really has a lot of options for venues given that it's a small town. Anyway, it's got a golf course, a pool, and a nice-sized parking lot. I came for a wedding reception. They had a bar and an outdoor area as well. The room for the reception wasn't super huge but was a good, open space with a dance floor. We were about 100 people but it never felt like we were cramped. It's kind of an outdated space though. Bathrooms looked old and so did the furniture in the sitting room. It's such a small place. The bathrooms did seem pretty roomy. With the sitting room in there and mirrors with the sinks and some just for make up, it reminded me of the old bathrooms outside the Grand Ballroom of the Student center that they wrecked down a few years ago on UK's campus. Sooo old school. Some of the food was stuff the bride's parents made, but there were some options that the country club made. I wasn't a fan. The sweet tea was not good at all. Not much flavor. I will commend them for having a large selection of bourbon. Oh, I love being in Kentucky!
