We traveled to Bardstown again to see the Sound of Music at this venue. Sometimes there are seasonal productions in addition to the Stephen Foster story. This show was great with a large cast of talented performers. I even recognized a few familiar actors from other venues (lead actor has performed this past year at Derby Dinner Playhouse in Clarksville). We were seated in the 6th row center and audio and visuals were all wonderful. We are looking forward to returning here for future events. read more

We went to the show with some friends and had a great time on opening night of 2021! When I bought our tickets, I was offered a choice of seats in the middle of a row, but with a good view of the stage, and the theater was not going to be full. When we arrived we discovered that the show had sold out, so we had to climb over more people to get to our seats in the middle of the row, but they were still good seats. Our friends had never before seen the show, it had been decades since Hubby or I had last seen it, and we all enjoyed the experience. The singers wear microphones and are heard over the sound system, a change from when Hubby was in the cast. Some of the dialogue is also different from decades ago, but the changes do not distract from the purpose of featuring of Foster's music. After the show we had an unexpected surprise of an Independence Day weekend fireworks display! The fireworks were beautiful and we enjoyed them too! read more

This is not at all just a small town, low budget, local musical. I absolutely love seeing musicals anywhere I can and this was an amazing performance. Since they do it every summer (June-Aug) they have a beautiful outdoor amphitheater just for this event. The music was all things I've heard before, but didn't know they were written by one man. The acting was great, talented vocals, gorgeous gowns, impressive sets. I was truly blown away. I loved the area with the actors' pictures showing where they are from (all over the US) And how many years they've performed in the musical. I love being a Texan, but for one night, I felt like I was in "My Old Kentucky Home." read more

Fantastic show with American musical history at the forefront. Stephen Foster was Americas first great songwriter and for us older folk (above 55) this was a stroll through musical history. Great acting, fantastic cast, great facility and I highly recommend you to see this show. Only knock on the show; is like many things from our history, they changed a word in the original lyric. This will always bugs me. History is what it is. Learn from it but recognize it is simply that. History. I will never understand the need to change things like this but they did and I'm sure it makes many people more comfortable. I'm just not one of those. Go see the show. You will not be disappointed. read more

My favorite vacation is visiting Bardstown, Kentucky to see The Stephen Foster Story production!!! It is always AMAZING. You just leave with that happy feeling. Plus it is in a beautiful town. The talent is always out of this world! Love love love it!!! read more

Already broken that my local drive in couldn't afford to go digital we now have to commute for anything remotely worth it. Well we took the trip from Harrodsburg to Bardstown, had to take the bluegrass vs the crow flying straight, she was worth it anyday and everyday. Do not skip this theatre for one with a/c.
