Buying a car is fun. Shaking off the sales people is a drag though. I like to do my own research and make my own decision. Enter the Jake. If you have to buy a car, go to Peterson and try and track down a guy named Jake McArthur. What's that? You think I'm name dropping him because he's a friend or something? Nice try. Go and see for yourself. But first go online and pick a car and learn all the cool things about it that you can. New cars always have the cool new tech. I'm an IT guy, so that stuff is my bread and butter. Ok, so now you've done your research. Go to Peterson and pretend to check out one of their cars. Make sure you're dealing with Jake. He comes off as just a nice guy. No pressure. He doesn't think he's better than you. At first I was pretty sure that I knew more than he did. So I'm sitting here thinking I'm all smart, until Jake starts completely schooling me on all of the tech features of the car. He knows it all. All of it. And there's a lot of it. I could go to google and get a paste for you, but just trust me, the new cars are so full of tech and options. And he's not pushing anything down my throat, none of that "act now" or "you're lucky, my boss says I can get you a great deal" garbage. He surprised me. And you know what? I didn't buy a car from him. Not that day. I went around to a few other places and kicked some tires. But I ended up going back and tracking down Jake. He knew all the cars like the back of his hand. But NOW I wanted to see if he could find a deal. I wasn't shocked when he found a few in my cheap sonofa range. Used. I'm too cheap for new. But man, soooo nice. I've been back twice now. They're all probably fine, but I was lucky enough to deal with Jake. Jake knows. He probably knows I'm typing this right now, and that scares me. But just a little. You'll see me bumping down the road in my used but still sweet Lexus ES350. It's the one with dual moon roof and a ridiculous Mark Levinson stereo. We had narrowed down the cars we were interested in purchasing, which included the Lexus RX350. Jake McArthur showed us all the different models and explained the pros and cons of each. We had a pretty good idea which trims we wanted included and not only showed us the new models but showed us all the Certified pre-owned which also came with a warranty. We were mostly interested in a low interest rate. We left to think about our different options. While at lunch, Jake researched financing options as well as other cars that met our criteria not on their lot. He was able to find us a 2.9% that Lexus was offering in February that had not yet been announced to the dealers. He also checked on the lowest price available for the vehicle we were interested in, as well as what payments would be with different amounts down. After lunch, we contacted him again and told him we wanted the Certified RX. He let us know that it was scheduled for a test drive the next day and we drove back and put money down on the car to hold it until the finance charge could be secured. When we arrived back to arrange for pick up, he had already arranged to have it detailed as well as a paint chip in the door repaired. He began the process of pairing our phones and showing us the obvious things we needed to know right away. He gave us his contact information and told us to call him at any time if we had any questions. In a couple of days he checked back to see how we were doing with the car and reminded us to call whenever we needed him. Jake McArthur is an absolute doll! It was time to turn in my lease. I went to the dealership (not Peterson Lexus) that I bought my car at to look at other vehicles. I was interested in purchasing a car, rather than getting into another lease. I was also looking at used vehicles so that I could have a lower monthly payment. I found a used vehicle that I liked, but the finance department said they couldn't "get me into" the used vehicle because of my credit (although it was 1/4 of the cost of the vehicles they were trying to sell me). They insisted they could only "get me into" another brand new car and Lease. They also were demanding that I put $1000 down. One of the finance managers also personally insulted me. I left. The next morning, I reluctantly walked into Peterson Lexus because I saw online that they had a cute used Audi for sale. It had low miles and looked to be in great shape. Jake was the first person I met when I walked in. He was kind, a great listener and apologetic for the horrific experience I had the night before at the other dealership. He patiently listened to my wants/needs and ultimately, got me into the car that I really wanted. I know that the car I bought from him wasn't a "big ticket item" compared to some of the new Lexus' on the sales floor. Thanks again to Peterson Lexus. This is my 2008 GX470 with about 120k miles. They have taken care of my car for the past 8 years and always give me great service. When it comes to checking in on services I need and if I could use a loaner car, the staff are accommodating to my requests. As a dad of two young kids, they are helpful with assisting me with car seats and giving the kids snacks and waters for the road. Yes, they are a large dealership! However, they treat me like I'm one of their few customers. Joe actually knew my background and we chatted about work and life. He remembered our previous conversations and advised me about future services for my vehicle. I appreciate their honesty regarding services needed and not needed. I made the mistake on taking my Toyota Highlander to the other dealership and got an unexpected $550 bill for a leaking oil pan. I put my truck's info on autotrader to see if I could get an offer. I received a text from Ricky. He was not only courteous, but was a delight. I'm in Nampa and Peterson Lexus is in Boise, so I didn't want to drive all the way out and get low balled. Rickey assured me he wouldn't waste my time and he was spot on! Within 15 minutes, he checked the mileage, vin and gave me a more than reasonable offer. I'm going through a divorce and have to sell my vehicle and my house to make ends meet. Rickey made sure that I felt comfortable and that I would get the highest amount. It didn't feel like a "sale" he wasn't pushy and was professional and honest. After explaining our problem he said "Bring it in and I'll have a loaner for you" Even though we were not a Peterson client we received the royal treatment. Everyone we came in contact with reached out to us to see how they could help. Professional, courteous, and attentive. The part had to be ordered and shipped in, but everyday we got a call from Joe updating us. Van Vandenburg is the sales person who assisted with my recent purchase of a 2019 Lexus NX300h. He communicated with me through each step of the process and answered every question I had (there were quite a few!) so that ultimately when signing the final paperwork, the bottom line that I paid matched our discussions and I drove away in exactly the vehicle I wanted for the agreed upon price. We went in first thing Monday morning and Eric Whipkey was our consultant. Very easy to talk to and not pushy at all. They were very careful with COVID-19 challenges wearing masks and allowing us some freedom to inspect the vehicles.
