Not only did they handle everything professionally, but the money we made from consigning his furniture helped with his medical bills, which meant so much to our family. I consigned a table here that I had purchased from them less than a year ago for $400 more than they chose to list it for this time. I even sent the owner the original price tag I had saved from my purchase as proof of what they had previously consigned it for. The starting consignment price was far below its original value, and since they receive half of the sale price, it seemed there was little incentive to price it fairly. When I went to pick it up, the table was buried under other items, covered in dust, with clear dust rings where things had been sitting for a long time. It's hard to sell furniture when it's hidden and dirty. Unfortunately, this experience showed me a lack of care for consigned items and for customers who trust them to represent their pieces well. read more

I am writing this as a consignor... I sold a number of pieces with the help of Petersons'. The process was fairly simple. I took some pictures of the pieces I wanted to sell and emailed them to the business. Petersons' ok'd them and I scheduled movers to help transport the items to the store. (I went with the suggested moving company, Big Brother Moving, which I later discovered must be related to the owners of this company... in Cahoots, so to say.) Upon arrival of my items, they decided that the La-z-Boy recliner didn't meet up to their standards. Since I didn't have a way to pick up the chair, it got donated. (My husband was a little pissed and wished we would have gotten it back.) The other disappointment was that my $1200 Cindy Crawford microfiber couch, which I spent forever cleaning up, wasn't deemed "good enough" and was priced at like $130... of which you only receive 50% of the sales price. So I got a mere $65 for my couch (and spent the next 7.5 weeks sitting on the floor) Honestly, for $65 I would have preferred to have kept the couch for the next 7.5 weeks and put it out at the curb. Ah well. Regardless, all but 1 of my items were sold by Peterson's. It's kind of disappointing that you only receive 50% of the sales price. But since I didn't want to sell to shady people on Craigslist, I opted for this. (In hindsight, I could have sold on Facebook garage sale groups which seem a little more "safe"). One last note on selling, your contract lasts like 3 months (I believe). After a certain amount of time, the price will be dropped. Then dropped again after another length of time. If your item still hasn't sold, you can pick it up. Unfortunately for us, we had moved out of state so that wasn't possible so our last (unsold) item was turned over to the store's account. Honestly, can't really comment on the buying at Petersons'. I only went to the store once to pick up a Consignment check. All in all, I'd sell with Petersons' again and would recommend them. read more

They're a little "snooty" which is a bit off putting as we are the clients as consignors too - I find it has made me not want to shop because while they may decline some things there's no answer as to what they declined. Regarding jewelry, they have a jewelry vendor so don't bother to bring your beloved costume jewelry because they only want, silver, gold, actual pieces of value that I am insulted - if they're valuable I still am wearing them - I don't feel welcomed or valued &yet I have 5 years behind me from working at a high end consignment shop in VA that always made ANY customer shopper/consignor feel valued regardless of whether they ultimately accepted your "personally valued" items. If your items are rejected or they tell you "we spect things to be on hangers" - my fourth consign appoint 1st that was mentioned - they should refer to other consignment options that may have a different criteria,clientele, etc. I'm sure the profits come predominantly from their beautiful lower level of furniture (although their downstairs employers are either vague or unwelcoming. read more

On two levels, with clothing in the loft and furniture in the sunken lower level, Consigning Design can decorate or redecorate both you and your house. Along the walls on the street level are smaller furniture and pictures, mirrors, and general art. The upstairs clothing section has men's and women's clothing, handbags, jewelry, scarves, shoes, and coats. The only unpleasant aspect of this area of the store for my taste was the real fur and fur-trimmed coats. But, if you don't have any qualms about wearing real fur, then you'll find a limited selection here. Otherwise, the clothes ranged from high-end casual to high-end formal and all reasonably priced. On the downstairs level is the furniture and general home decor items, along with the set-off area containing upholstery fabrics, a task Consigning Design will do for you, if you're not so inclined to try it yourself. There was solid mix of furniture, from modern to old, with wood bed frames and canopy bed frames, informal and formal tables, armoirs, lamps, and china, silver, and crystal. The furniture and home decor items are displayed showroom style rather than randomly cobbled together. After nearly 30 years of heavy use, our bar chairs badly needed new fabric and new cushions. George does Peterson's reupholstering and I must say, he did an outstanding job. It's like we have our brand new chairs back! They are firm and the fabric is sturdy and beautiful. There is a limited number of fabrics to choose from and we were fortunate to find one we liked. This place a has a little bit of everything. Furniture, clothes, accessories, high end mostly. They layout is great. Plenty of room and they have everything spread out well so you can walk freely. They also have new boutique items as well. Prices seem on par with others but some items were a little too worn or damaged to be listed at the cost they had in my opinion. I check out Peterson's every time I'm in Cary and always find something lovely to bring home! The inventory changes daily so you've got to check them out often to find the best pieces, they sell fast! All of my area rugs have come from their store & we've furnished an entire mountain house from Peterson's over several months! Always get compliments on the pieces we found there. I really liked this store! Lots of different furniture, styles, wall decor etc... downstairs and clothing boutique upstairs. Very clean and organized with very reasonable pricing. Check tags, as prices go down after certain time periods. You never know what you will find! Go browse and enjoy, there are friendly employees to help if needed but they don't bug you! I am fortunate to have great furniture place nearby. I love Petersons and I've found some great pieces. We found our dining room set, kitchen set, China hutch and a sleigh bed here. The furniture moves quickly so if you like something you should buy it. There are some antiques here but mostly modern furniture. I've seen a lot of Ethan Allen furniture at low prices. I found this place not because I was interested on buying used furniture, but because they are exclusive Dixie Bell Retailers (I restore antique and use furniture). Normally all my shopping is done online, first because is safe, second its cheaper and convenient. However we have extenuating circumstances with Covid-19 and it became clear to me that supporting local business should be our priority, so I found this little retailer, they don't have an extensive selection on the products that I need, but I still believe on give them full support. That's not the case anymore, on my second shopping experience, I got a navy paint, and a silver paint. Later on I realized that I was not going to use either one, so went back there to exchange both for new paint (both containers were unopened and I have my receipt). For my surprise I was told that they only could exchanged the color on the navy one, the other one was not eligible because the product trying to exchange was not a color swap there is not sign on the section were the paint is fully display that states that fact). They have a sign on the desk that states that all sales are finals, but I thought that was for the used stuff (consigning) this is a paint... it was a easy solution, to keep a customer happy and coming back for more. The store manager, which is also the store owner for my surprise refused to honor the exchange, and she was quite rude. I was not expecting to get money back, I was not trying to return an used dress... it was paint, unused, unopened, and for what I see they don't even sale the paint very well, since their selection is quite old. It is a shame that a local business will act like that, especially the owner. Never will come back and will make sure that anyone I know in Cary will not ever go either. Working on the real estate industry and having an extended network might become very effective when is necessary. I don't need the $29.00 the paint costs, I can still get the paint online, what upsets me is the principal and the bad customer service. read more

I loved this place for many years. It has changed it's look a few times (on the inside) but there is always goodness in there. I have consigned clothes, I've bought furniture. I have even purchased fabrics for upholstery. I've never had anything upholstered there, but George who runs the reupholstery section is always willing to answer questions about it. (I dabble with my own stuff) Over all I love going in and seeing what's new. It changes often. The new staff is pleasant and helpful. read more

I dropped off a couch and chair to consign. After three months without hearing from them, I called to see if I needed to pick up my furniture. I was surprised to find out that the furniture had been sold two weeks after dropping it off. I was very unhappy with the lack of communication and I finally received my check but only after contacting them. Beware if you are considering consigning with them. read more

IMHO, this is THE BEST consignment store ever. Been going there for about 4 years. I have purchased furniture, home decor, had them reupholster my bar stools, and practically my entire wardrobe comes from The Loft upstairs. I'm also a clothing consigner with them from time to time. I call this my happy place when I'm there. Ashley, Lauren, and Beth are so nice, the quality of the items they take in are incredible (very often brand new), The Loft is always neat and organized making it easy to shop for clothing and accessories, and the prices on everything are fantastic. This is the only store I will shop for consignment items or for reupholstery work. They also have an app you can download to your phone with coupons for additional furniture and clothing discounts! On a whim purchased Birkenstock Betula....thinking they were real and thought $33 was a great fair price (most Birkenstock are $100 to $150 new) These Betula's are the cheap version of Birkenstock that I can buy off Amazon for $35, AND they hurt my feet! So disappointed that they won't exchange or work with me and feel their price for them is reasonable. I feel robbed! They were not priced accordingly for used cheap version of Birkenstock! This place does not seem to care at all about customer relations. They lost my fabric, never make any attempt to make restitution, the owner was always out and none of the employees knew his email or how to contact him. I told them I was going to write a bad review but would allow time to make amends for the loss of my fabric. Not one single person seemed to care - I was always taking the initiative to contact them. In the current business environment it is simply amazing that a company serving the public would have NO concern for this situation. The back room where the upholstery is done is so dissorganized there is no wonder they do not lose more items. CONSIGNER BEWARE: I am very unhappy with Consigning Design's new management rules for being reimbursed for consigned clothing sales. First of all, you have only two months for your clothes to sell. They don't correspond to let you know when the time is up. They do have a website to keep up with your sales, but if you miss the deadline, they keep the items for their own profit. Secondly, you have to wait until the total amount reaches $25 before being reimbursed. Thirdly, they will not pay cash, only a check, so they claim they have to wait a full month later to send a check. Example: I brought 13 items in November 12, 2013. My contract ends January 12, 2014. 4 items sold between 11/15 and 1/5. Only until the 1/5 sale did the amount reach over $25, so according to the employee I just talked to, I have to wait until 2/15 before they will cut me a check....even though I am picking up the rest of my items tomorrow. This is wrong....a check should be cut to me on 1/15. By the way, this employee was not concerned or helpful, in fact, I told her due to all of this I will never shop there again or bring in my items for consignment. She didn't care. I have consigned with them for 4 years, and shopped there as well. I have brought friends there too, but no more. If you want to consign with them, be very aware their new rules are geared for them to make as much profit off your money as they can by keeping it as long as they can. Waiting for my money an extra month reeks of dishonesty. read more

This place was great with the former owners. They were picky about what they consigned (sometimes a bit too selective) but... the services was amazing and warm and inviting. The new management was good for a while but went down hill. The stock is tired, dated and no good deals to be found. I've had one chair upholstered there... the work was great but not the final product I was asking for- he left off the cord trim I was very specific about. The man was very irritable each visit- over one side chair seat! I won't go again unless an advertising campaign entices me back. :( read more

So, I started going here before they were "Peterson's" ... back then there were two lovely ladies who were more concerned about you than the current management. loved going here and would frequent at least a couple times a month... now, they have a young lady (and I use lady loosely) that is in charge of taking in items and I can tell you..she is one of those people who is so snotty that it actually makes you not even want to go into this store. I thought maybe I caught her on a bad day so I've been back numerous times but I can tell you she is just rotten person to deal with. She has black hair and like I said, she is the one who is "in charge" and I think that title has gone to her head... too bad since this place used to be the kind of place you looked forward to going to... and I can tell you I have spent a ton of money in here and it is sad .... read more

Have made purchases here in the past without incident. Latest purchase of large curio was a complete disappointment in the way it was handled by manager Ashley and Owner Mike Peterson. Their delivery service Big Brother Moving which is also owned by Mike Peterson broke the mirrored back while attempting to load it for paid delivery to my house. He called and stated he need to talk to manager Ashley (yet he claims he is the owner ) on how she wanted to handle it. I do get a return call back from Mike saying Ashley refunded my money for the piece. Ashley did not bother to contact me to see if that's how I wanted to handle it. Had conversation with Mike on whether it was worth repairing and he said probably not worth it but it was ultimately up to me. Call a mirror cutting place and get estimate for new piece of mirror. Then call back Consigning Design to speak to Ashley. Marissa puts me on hold for Ashley.....Marissa, not Ashley comes back on the phone saying Ashley will call me back. Ashley again is the one who made the refund decision without my consultation. Me the owner of the piece because it was paid for days ago. I wait for the call. Two minutes later Mike Peterson calls me back.......AGAIN not who I asked to speak with. He says he called because he was dealing with me. NO, Ashley made the decision. Any way Mike tells me the piece is no longer on the floor for me to see they already took up the street to the dump and threw it away. I mean REALLY?!!? Then when I want to complain he again says well he is the owner and doesn't let me speak to Ashley who is the supposed store manager. I express my frustration over how they told me the piece was in perfect condition except for a few wood nicks that only needed a furniture pen. Now it's in the dump beyond repair. He says the "girls" don't see the stuff come one etc. blah blah. Yet they walked over and described it to me in detail when I was buying it. I finally had to just say to Mr Peterson have a good day and hang up because he was that they told me what happened and refunded it and handled it properly. NO Mr Peterson you need to communicate better with your customers. That is what customer service is about. And when I ask to speak to a certain person then that is who I want to speak with. If Ashley can not consult with customers and speak to customers then she has no business as a manager because that is completely subpar management. I was very patient and even let them live the delivery back a day for their convenience. This experience also does not speak very highly of Big Brother movers either. I would advise staying away from both places. I have been a customer of Consigning Design for about 10 years......most of their stuff is overpriced but something's from time to time are reasonable which is why I purchased this marked down curio. Now my old one is gone and all the things that it housed have no place. Just a real shame! I could not do folks like that. read more

I was beyond impressed and in awe of the amazing selections and wonderful customer service that I received last week at Peterson's Consignments. Ashley (the manager) and her assistant (Lauren) were extremely helpful in helping me purchase 2 pieces of furniture, which I had been looking for since last summer. The prices were very reasonable (better than most Craigslist items) and they have a convenient loading area that made it an easy transition to move the pieces. Ashley was super generous to loan me her moving dollies, so that it would not be a struggle, once I got home. I highly recommend this place for anyone who is looking for a nice place to shop locally and for affordable prices in furniture, home decor, clothes, and fabric. What I really like most about this place is that it doesn't smell like "Grandma's house" (moth balls and aqua net), like most consignment shops; it is very clean and organized.
