This place is HUGE!! There is so much to look at, it's like a treasure hunt. There is a nice variety of things to look at, from furniture, decor, books, records, toys, specialty items and tons of dishes and items from years ago. A lot going on inside here for sure! The basement floor is pretty cluttered- which yes it is an antique store, but the prices were high for it not being a curated space. I saw a nordicware copper Bundt pan listed at $120, which was crazy to me. They sell new for like $50. The upstairs/top floor was better organized. It wasn't as crowded/hard to walk. There were some beautiful vintage clothes. But there was only one "dressing room" which was the bathroom up there. So not ideal. I recommend going up there instead of downstairs if you're short on time. There were signs advertising a year-round Christmas antique area, with hours on Sunday 1-5pm. I was there at 3pm and could not find it. There were signs pointing to a locked door. And nothing on the level was Christmas. So that was a bit disappointing. The workers are generally sitting at the checkout/stands around, so I didn't have much interaction. Overall, fun to check out but not a lot of great stuff for good value. read more

NO SALES, don't bother asking about special sales or booth sales or asking them to call the vendor to make an offer like in some other places. They don't do that here. It's totally vendor dependent on sales and vendors have to write the sale price on their tags. Came back years later and still some Of the the same things there. Lots of stuff in terms of selection. Prices are expensive. Even though some items have no prices, they'll research it online and price at new/retail prices. Ladies at counter are not friendly like last time. If you are spending time in Cameron Village and want to poke around a cool basement crammed with treasures, then this place is for you! I had no idea I was walking into a legit antique mall! There were tons of stalls and aisles. Be sure to stay with a buddy, because there's no cell reception down there and you'll easily lose your companion! I was looking for lamps, and my mom was looking for coffee tables, and while we didn't walk away with success in either of those areas we did have a lot of fun exploring. I LOVE Cheshire Cat Antiques. I go at every chance I get, which isn't as often as I'd like. I love that it's underground. I love that there is a huge variety of antique sellers, from furniture, to clothing, to records to random unique items. I've bought a lot of different items here over the years. One tip is to go with a check, because that's effectively cash and you'll get a bit of a discount. They don't have their own delivery crew (for furniture) but they do recommend one person and they were excellent. I've actually used him to pick up furniture from other stores for me as well. If you're in the mood for exploring, take a trip downstairs to Cheshire Cat Gallery. It's easy to overlook with the other shops capturing your attention on the street level of Cameron Village; but you'll be missing out. It's hard to classify Cheshire Cat, there are others who've reviewed shops within, but until you've actually wandered down the aisles you probably won't really understand what the fuss is about. It's one big open area, separated only by the aisles and whatever furniture or half walls the shops within have used to mark out their space. You'll find vintage, antique, trendy and modern furniture, home accessories and clothing, as well as books, games, toys and vinyl records. That's the section that completely had me enthralled and turning in circles trying to figure out what to look for first. There's nothing to match the cover art of those old vinyls and the detail overlooked in the scaled down version with the cd jewelcases or from the online library. It was a huge collection of everything from Broadway shows to pop, rock and country. But if that's not your thing, that's okay, because there's bound to be something else you'll not want to leave behind. And even if you can leave it all behind, it'll be a fun way to spend a couple of hours, and perhaps relive a memory or two. read more

ALWAYS find what I'm looking for--and by that, I never know what I'm looking for, I just go, and I find what I'm looking for. This is place is my go to for birthdays and anniversaries. You can walk around for 3 hours, think they don't have what you're looking for, and then after the 6th or 7th pass of a display case you'll find EXACTLY what you're looking for. Prices are based on who ever consigns the item, which means that there's deals to be had, and over-inflated prices as well. The staff is uber helpful and are very patient when it comes to dudes like me who come in with ridiculous requests for "insect-themed jewelry that's not too gross or too girly." There's A LOT of vinyl and a pretty complete collection of various niche collector stuff and the inventory rotates depending on who is upkeeping what little space they rent out. Be advised--the resident jeweler (can't recall his name, but he has an office there) is (in my opinion) a bit of an old-school huckster. I don't think he's ever tried to rip me off, but I do believe he has... lets say... "exaggerated" the bargain I would be getting and (in my opinion) tried running some classic salesman tactics. It's all fair game. Feel free to spar with him--I don't think he minds. If he appears to get offended... it could also be part of the act? read more

I stumbled into Cheshire Cat on a snowy, rainy day and was so happy to have found this little rabbit hole. Even though many of the vendors have overpriced their antiques, (a tiny, Amercian flag pin like the kind you used to get in elementary school for $5? please.) some of the vendors are sane, and I found a beautiful pair of vintage, blue leather boots for only $10. Picture it like roomful after roomful of Saturday Garage Sales. Some areas are zany, some are conservative, some have a Western theme, some of them your Grandma would adore. They have homewears, collectibles, clothing, jewlery, posters, umbrellas, books, records, strange asian looking birdcages, and a cat made of what appears to be carved ivory to greet you at the door. Please make sure you have at least an hour to browse. You'll probably find something unique, strange, and within your price range if you hunt long enough. read more

Such an interesting hidden gem in Cameron Village! On the hunt for some new records, Andrew and I ventured into Cheshire Cat. I've been living near the Cameron Village area for four years now and until today had never ventured in. Big mistake! You start by descending down the stairs (or elevator) to an unmarked entrance filled with antique furniture. From there, a huge space unfolds, separated into different areas with different vendors - antique furniture, jewelry, memorabilia, china, books, etc. You name it, they have it! We walked around for a bit before we found the record section. There are several different record vendors and they are not all side by side, so be sure to explore. There was a great selection of oldies, jazz, classical, broadway, rock and country. Prices vary (we snagged records that were priced at $3 and some that were $18), but are fair. One of the vendors, Spindl, offers a loyalty card - once you've made 10 $12 purchases, you get $10 off your next purchase. Check out is old school - written receipts and no computers in sight. Overall, a great stop for a lazy afternoon! Will definitely be back. read more

Where has this place been my whole life? Hidden in the basement of Cameron village I suppose. Definitely the best collection of used vinyl records I've ever seen. There are several dealers that sell records, all at fair prices. I picked up several records I've been trying to find for a long time. I will have to go back again to explore the antiques. One of if not THE BEST antique stores in town! Im a record nerd and this store has 4 or 5 different record vendors which gives them a larger selection of vinyl than any "record store" in town!!! I also find that some of the record vendors have better prices than i have found at some of the "record stores" around town! I can always bring my girlfriend here and she gets lost in all the other stuff they have which allows me time to dig! Unfortunately, just like another reviewer mentioned, I also had the "pleasure" of dealing with the owner and she was just terrible! She was rude, pushy and implied that I was an idiot! That woman should stay away from the store and let sales people sell the stuff. They even apologized for her behavior, but, at that point, I was too upset to buy anything. After reading some nice reviews on here I decided to come check it out. When my brother and I first arrived there were only a couple people inside no one greeted us and that sorted irked me. Well as my brother and I headed upstairs we noticed there were two older men chatting away as we continued looking around one of the men stopped as said "Hold on I gotta keep my eye on these two." he said this out loud literally! I'm sorry I understand as a seller you have to be careful watching your merchandise for people not to shoplift but really couldn't you have been more quiet about? I've never shoplifted in my life but to be assumed as a shoplifter is totally not okay and if that didn't top it off the guy had the nerve to say "Oh hey how are ya'll doing?" . OK first the good.. there are some fabulous vendor booths inside.. Vendors with pop culture, furniture and lighting, estate jewelry, LP stores, books, Mid century items and holiday vintage stuff. These folks choose well, and price well. They have some good dealers..and some are well displayed and offer services..- one booth has fine antiques, polished brass items and rewires lights and phones. Then there are the front white booths, there They have a dapper watch and jewelry repair man. I don't know what he charges for repairs, his jewelry is priced very high and merchandise rarely changes, ditto for the handsome silver collection nearby full of things too overpriced to sell... $250 for a spoon? How many shoppers are there today who would pay $14,000.00 for a silver tea set ? Same old Stuff (SOS) in that case for years! Is this place worth a go? YES, that's why I gave them the stars I did. The lack of more stars is due, mostly to management. I always look for the vendors with new (old) stuff, that says to me they know their market, price things right enough to sell and pay attention to the real world. It pays to remember these and just breeze past the rest. The rest? too many overpriced, over cluttered, waiting for the boom years to return, hobbyists, hoarders, fru fru gallerias and collectors more interested in displaying their goods than selling items. It's as if they are living in the past and not noticing that the economy , peoples incomes and interests have changed over time- an hence, so has the antique market. old school but not necessarily in a way that makes sense anymore. Like old school customer service? Some of the workers are very nice but seem unable to do much without the owner's OK. She is hard to find. The owner - if she is there-is sequestered behind the Checkout clutter, hoardings and animal mess . She is Not very friendly. One might forgive the owners own overpriced merchandise if she at least tried to present a classy Mall. The downstairs path into the main room looks like a badly run thrift shop,furnishings stacked on top of each other, some items damaged, & dirty. When I first went there I assumed they were so busy selling items that these stairwell pieces were temporary.. but nope! I guess they don't understand the importance of first impressions. Its fine to have junk at a junk shop but for the owner to put junk in the front and then have such high prices for antiques.. just makes no sense. The floors are dirty, the isles are messy and the owner can't stop stackin more stuff around what used to be a handsome checkout. Carpets are literally Soiled, hopefully from the urns with dying plants and potting soil spilling out all over and not her animals. Maybe a few more years it will get a house cleaner, understand the importance of presentation, service, price points, customer base, current trends, etc. Till then, hunt and peck, I go every few months to see what's happening in the good vendors booths. read more

An enormous basement warehouse of absolute junk rather than cool/unique vintage finds. I stop in about every 3 months, and the stock of items just sits there and doesn't update often, so the experience becomes less exciting with each visit. The experience would be much better if Cheshire Cat was a little bit more selective or curated their selection. read more

Tucked away under the brick walkways of Cameron Village is a walk back in time. 90's windbreaks your jam? Looking for an outfit for decades day for your high school? Need a kitschy kitchen ornament for a redecoration? You'll find all the things you need and plenty of things you don't at Chershire Cat. Each stall is a different seller and some stalls are well organized and fairly priced while some are piles upon piles of junky items displayed with crazy price tags and difficult to maneuver. The place is dusty. The carpet is dirty. It would be impossible to clean with so many different sellers unless it closed and moved but you have to expect this when you come into CC. The women who work behind the counter are kind and helpful. They hand write every receipt. CC is truly a walk back in time in all elements of the word. Don't expect to barter a better price because the sellers are not there and it's just not something they do. Check it out and find a unique treasure but bring your hand sanitizer and a good attitude. read more

This place is in the basement and if you are claustrophobic, be prepared. The prices vary from booth to booth, so I'm guessing people rent out space. What I dont understand was all the clutter. Booths were blocked from public access by clutter and the "MORE" section was blocked by clutter and the lights were out. I would have given this place a 4 star but here was my issue. I had hubby with me who is a male over 50. He had to use the restroom. We both saw a customer use a key to go into the restroom and when he went to ask for the key, he was told that it's not public and that he couldnt have the key. I normally would have spent hours in a place like this and spent upwards of $300, but I had to listen to, "We need to go, I got to use the bathroom." over and over until I finally gave in and left, with only two little things in my hands totaling well under $50. There were also a lot of booths with used clothing. I'm not talking about cool 1950's clothing, they looked pretty modern. They had a great selection of records, but I didnt get to look through them. Several booths had mid-century modern furniture. There was also a huge sign saying no photography allowed. I view photography as free advertising, but whatever, old people are set in their ways I guess. If I see something in a photograph that I want to buy, I'd drive to that store and buy it. It's worth a look but go to the bathroom before you go and leave your camera in the car. read more

This place is huge. If you need to kill some time on a rainy afternoon or you just want to get lost in rows upon rows of antiques and retro items, this is the place. Many items were out of my price range (the art in particular and the MCM furniture of course), but I did pick up a nice tray and a few utensils. They didn't have any jadeite, which I collect, but I guess jadeite is getting harder to come by these days. read more

This place was a lot bigger than we expected, and took at least an hour to get a good look at, which was great. As with many places like this, it was pretty hit or miss, and not everything was antiques. The one thing we bought was actually new (a set of 1600 thread count sheets for $32!), but there were some neat things around as well. A couple of the displays had some racist items that we weren't so fond of encountering. One display near the far wall had some amazing bronzed musical instruments that made an incredible sound--an audio engineer should come in here and record some samples. Definitely worth your time if you like antiquing. read more

This gallery is quite lovely. They have a lot of beautiful items for sale. My only complaint is concerning the lack of knowledge of the staff working there. I had several items I was looking to sell. I called them several times and talked to several different people. Each person I spoke to told me something completely different than the person before. Apparently the owner is only in on Saturdays, and no one could help me but her. I don't think it makes any sense to have a staff that cannot answer a single question concerning the stores buying policy.
