This is a story of a villain named Legacybox and a hero named Peterson's Video Transfer (specifically George) that came to the rescue. As tech people, we wanted to transfer our old reel-to-reel tapes to digital, and we naturally wanted to use the company that's all over Facebook and Instagram with their cutting-edge business model that makes it convenient to just put everything in a box. We paid $659.15, put them in the Legacybox, waited a month, and then received the box back with stickers on every tape that said: We wanted to let you know that one or more of your analog media items arrived with some pre-existing wear and tear. We did everything we could, but unfortunately we were unable to convert it. They didn't look damaged to us, and we were disappointed. After two weeks, we didn't receive a refund so we engaged in a one month battle to get our money back, only to receive all but $153.57, which they retained for "shipping and labor". So apparently the price for nothing is $153.57, but it makes sense that if the tapes are damaged, then the problems were beyond their control. Just to be sure, we brought the box into Peterson's Video Transfer, and surprise surprise, none of the tapes were damaged and the resulting quality is fantastic. Beyond the convenience of just dropping off and picking up a box, the customer service that George provided was outstanding. He used special software to painstakingly adjust the speed depending on the tape reel size, he organized the folder of files with helpful names, and he was generally pleasant and supportive. This is an unbelievable service that Peterson's Video Transfer Services provides. I ran across a number of old audio tapes at my parents house (after my parent's passed away). I brought the tapes in to be digitally transferred as I could no longer play the tapes in the recorder. George called a few days before the final digital transfer to give me a heads up that I had a vast number of tv shows recorded from 60 years ago. He knew the exact year! He politely inquired if I wanted to transfer the shows. Not transferring them would save me a lot of money and time. I mentioned I was only after adult and kid voices. I had hoped to hear my parents voices especially. George was so unbelievably helpful and knowledgeable!! He 'cleaned' up the recordings, and only transferred over the areas I requested and he labeled the various recordings so I have a heads up as to what I might hear. Upon hearing the first few minutes of recordings, it would have been extremely hard to listen to all the TV shows had George recorded them. Instead I have meaningful clips. And I heard my dad's voice when he was young. It is incredibly moving. The digital transfers are priceless to me and I know it will be to my family as well. It must have taken George hours to review and parse out the recordings. I'm still one the first set of recordings and am looking forward to the rest. Today I went to Peterson's Video to have an old VHS tape transferred to a DVD. The tape was over 20 years old and I wasn't sure they'd be able to do anything with it. Immediately upon walking in, I was greeted by Mr. Peterson. He asked when I needed my DVDs. I explained that I lived across town, so I would need some time to come back. He said he could do it right away. I went and had lunch, by the time I got back they were done. The cover on the DVD looked amazing. My wife and I live in Granbury, Texas and we do business with Fort Worth Camera/The Print Refinery who offers digital services using the Petersons located in Las Vegas. Our goal was to digitize all of our childhood tapes and since they are irreplaceable, we were hesitant to allow our tapes be sent out of state. Fort Worth Camera/The Print Refinery assured us that they've never experienced an issue to date so we decided to move forward. We had successfully processed 3 orders but on our 4th and final order, this set of tapes was lost. We didn't find out they were lost until after the 6 to 8 week timeframe had elapsed and no one had indicated there was a problem. We have been working with Fort Worth Camera/The Print Refinery for months now who have been in contact with the Petersons to help locate our tapes. The mail service used by Fort Worth Camera/The Print Refinery does show that one of their associates (Jeff) did sign for our tapes. However, the Petersons say they still can't locate our order and it was never entered into their system. It's been months now, and the Petersons have recently indicated that they have found some new back ordered items which may contain our order. Since I know what our tapes look like, I could help identify them. It seems inexcusable for this to happen without their customer service reaching out to us personally. If the story does happen to have a happier ending, I'll be glad to change my rating above. read more

So my wife and I recently learned that a family member filmed our entire wedding using their JVC camcorder nearly 10 years ago. For years my wife and I wished we had any kind video footage of our wedding to eventually share with our children, knowing we had photos. Although the interaction and customer service were good, I was sooo disappointed to find that they had actually edited my old family videos. They never asked if I wanted this done, or told me they had done it. In the 80's, we had taken 8mm and converted to VHS. At that time, it was a family decision to leave in the sections of film that showed my dad's nose as he looked into the camera before changing the end of the film. After viewing the DVD's made from the VHS tapes, I find that all footage of my dad's nose had been edited out. This was something that, as a family, was so endearing to us and now it's gone. Unfortunately, because they chose to take it upon themselves to edit my footage, I cannot recommend this company. The could have at least had the courtesy to call and ask if this was something we wanted done. Very disappointed!! read more

$182 FOR ONE DVD: I took my 8mm films to Peterson's because of the reviews on Yelp. The people are great, they are very helpful and friendly. The quality of the transfer was good but not great. Some of the music skipped during playback, the DVD had the same lines, wash outs and problems the original 8mm film had. Don't expect a nice clean film. All the flaws remain. The cost was ridiculously outrageous. So here is what you can expect because a final cost estimate will not be provided to you until the processing is complete and then it is too late. You pay $34.95 for each disc (no matter if you have as little as 2 minutes of film to transfer) and add on $.14 per foot on top of that. Bottom line....I paid $182. FOR ONE...YES I said ONE DVD with a running time of just under 1 hour !! I cannot recommend. How can I at these prices? read more

Peterson's is in a small 'strip mall' area across the street from Vallco mall. I brought them several of my old 8mm video tapes, and they transferred them on to DVD for me within a week, and called me when they were ready. I picked up the original tapes and the DVD's and was very excited to see images of my family from almost 20 years ago. The tapes that turned out to be blank, they gave back to me with no charge-obviously. The staff was very friendly and I will definitely return with more tapes. I believe they also transfer older reel film, so get those old family vacations transferred for the next generation to enjoy! The people at Peterson's rock. Plain and simple. I went in to transfer my film from my camcorder from a once in a lifetime trip down the Grand Canyon only to discover that my camcorder was broken and ruined each of the tapes when I rewound them by bending the tape. I was devastated and sobbed like a kid when they told me. They assured me they would try to do what they could to repair the film. Fast forward a week or two and I get back an almost perfect DVD. I used Peterson's video services to transfer some 8mm, super 8mm and 8mm with sound on to dvds. Their prices per foot of film were lower than most other companies and about the same for the actual dvd charge. I had them transfer my parents home movies that dated back to 1948 and continued until 1967 as well as my home movies that started in 1980. All I can say is this service is "priceless", I never would have been able to see the home movies from the my parents and never would have been able preserve them. This morning I picked up an old VHS tape that Peterson's transferred to a flash drive for me. I hadn't seen the tape since 1990 and was nervous about seeing the finished product. It was FANTASTIC! The only thing that could have improved it a lot would have been a tripod for the videographer (Moi) who was a little squirmy. The sound and quality are outstanding and the rest of my family will get to see the momentous event of Dad being honored by the State Board of Pharmacy for his 62 years of being licensed in Nevada. I had my 8mm films transferred in the mid 90s to VHS The guy had filmed it off the wall with a piece of white cardboard total garbage so it was time to have them done with new technology.I had sent it to another place when they sent me a sample in a drop box in SD and HD the SD clip had a blue tint. I was not happy They wanted to charge me 314.00 for the SD and told me 620.00 for the HD I told them send my films back. I sent it to Petersons and they charged me 360.00 for HD and threw in the SD for nothing. When I received my film I put it into CyberLink PowerDirector 15 I tweaked my videos.
