I called ahead because they didn't look open from the outside. Super friendly staff answered a set aside a table for 1. When I came in the door all the wait staff called me by name! The interior is charming with a slim upper level row of tables. The food! Oh my! Some of the best food I've had eating out for a long time! I'm so glad I chose the combination plate which gave me the choice of 3 entree portions and soup or salad. I had the soup avogolemono and spanakopita, moussaka, and chicken souvlaki over rice. (Sorry if I spelled these wrong) All three were divine! The seasoning each one was complex and so flavorful. These chefs know how to cook great food! The only thing that was a bit uncomfortable, is that the restaurant was really hot! I ordered a dessert that was described as similar to a flan. I was expecting something cold, but it was hot out of the oven! So it came home with me and I will chill it before finishing. It didn't occur to me that it could be a warm dessert. It was a very tasty rich, thick custard with a lite creamy sauce sprinkled with cinnamon. My overall experience was fantastic due to the delicious food and friendly staff. My server was extremely attentive- I regret that I don't recall his name as I'm writing this, but I'm sure it can be figured out! He said he's worked with the family for around 20 years. What a GEM!! We had the best date night at this spot and I know it won't be our last. The restaurant is inconspicuous from the outside, but warm and cozy as soon as you walk in. It's small and intimate. The menu has something for everyone & the prices are veryyyy reasonable. We started with a couple glasses of wine and the calamari. The calamari was perfectly fried and had 2 sauces and pita. The tzatziki was amazing. I could eat with a spoon! Next we shared the central Grecian Greek platter... and WOW!! I was shocked by how large the platter was. It was piled high with the most delicious gyro & other meets, veggies, salad, feta, and olives. the platter came with more tzatziki and pita and a delicious and light dressing. We had more than enough for ourselves for dinner & another meal! We ended with dessert: One baklava and one bougatsa. The baklava was delicious, but the bougatsa stole the show. It's like a filled funnel cake - how could you not love!! Our server Francisco was so attentive and enjoyable. He was personable, warm and welcoming. We had family in town over the holidays and decided to visit Pete's Central One Restaurant for Greek food and we are so happy to have visited. Situated in a residential neighborhood, this family owned restaurant was amazing! We are by no means an expert on Greek Cuisine but they guided us through the menu and made wonderful recommendations! We started off with the Saganaki or Flaming Cheese dish, not only was it great a great experience, the dish itself was delicious. We followed up that app with a Spanakopita which was my wife's favorite of the evening and a meatball dish Keftedes. The rack of lamb was highly recommended and it did not disappoint. We had to finish off with an order of Baklava and another dessert which just made it a perfect evening. My partner's family is Greek, so we've been on a mission to find a spot that feels like home in anticipation for Easter dinner--and I think we've finally found the place. We went all in with the Avgolemono, Spanakopita, Chicken Souvlaki, Gyros, Pastitsio, and Greek Spaghetti--and honestly, everything was solid across the board. The Chicken Souvlaki was the standout for me: perfectly grilled, flavorful, and tender with lots of lemon. Like lots. It was one of the few places we've been to where my significant other didn't ask for more lol. That said, I'm a passionate mizithra fan, so I immediately went for the Greek Spaghetti. (If I could make one small request: just a touch more mizithra and I'd be SO happy.) The Spanakopita came wrapped in puff pastry instead of the traditional phyllo dough, so it was missing that signature flaky crunch but the spinach and cheese filling was so well done that I didn't mind the swap. The Avgolemono soup was amazing- lemony, rich, and comforting. And our family gave glowing reviews to both the Gyros and Pastitsio. Pete's has been around for 40 years and I have been in Denver 35 years. How did I not know about this amazing place? Cozy, warm, friendly, authentically Greek atmosphere and AMAZING FOOD. My son and I ordered a vegetarian combo which was delicious (you can ask for no cheese substitutions, too). His girlfriend had a chicken salad with a generous amount of chicken on the top. My husband had a large Greek salad and we shared a lima bean appetizer. (Who would have thought lima beans could be delicious?) For dessert, we had bouratkas (sp?) which was the most heavenly thing I have ever put in my mouth. The server, the bartender and the cooks were all friendly and welcoming, and they told us the story of the family business. (I love family businesses like this one.) For Food, 5+ stars. It's not the best Mediterranean food I've had in Denver, but it is without a doubt the best value of all of the Mediterranean places I've gone. First time this year at Pete's original restaurant off Alameda Ave @ Pearl Street. I was pleasantly surprised that their prices did not increase. When I arrived at 5:30pm, there was only 1 other occupied table. During my stay they almost filled up their 7 2-person tables and several larger tables. They have a west facing patio for summer. They offer a wide selection of vegetarian & meat filled Greek entrees. I got the Spanakopita appetizer, 2 spinach & feta cheese pockets with Iced tea. Very nice with lots of spinach. I next had Avgolemono (lemon-rice) soup. I had the ground beef version of Mousaka with potatoes, eggplant, bechamel sauce and topped with a tomato sauce. A very large portion. I got a greek salad and pita bread. Too full for dessert, but I recommend their baklava. read more

I have had a craving for Greek cuisine for a long time, an went to Pete's Central with my son and his partner. We chose the central location because it has a more extensive menu than the other Pete's locations, including Greek wines. We started with an appetizer of the dip sampler with hummus, tzatziki, and tyrokafteri, a spicy Greek feta dip, accompanied by fluffy pita. Our entrees included a Greek salad, with grilled shrimp and pita, which turned out to be enormous and included feta pepperoncini, tomatoes, cucumbers, an olives as well as dolmades. My companions had vegetarian platter and a combination of several dishes. I taste the vegetarian moussaka and it was sublime. I have to say that I could make an entire meal of dolmades. We had Greek beers and and Moschofilero, dry and fruity, and Retsina wines. The Retsina (to paraphrase John Fowles in "The Magus") tastes like the vineyards were located next to pine trees and flavored by the breeze. All excellent and made us feel like we were in the islands with snow outside. We arrived early, just after opening at 5, and the restaurant was quiet enough to talk--always a plus for me. The baklava was low quality in every way. The village salads were ok at best. The fries that came with the gyros were ok. Went in for dinner about a month ago. The food was good and the service was mediocre at best. Went into day for lunch and it was just about the opposite. The Avgolemono seemed to be very watery and there was hardly any lemon taste to it at all. I had requested "no tomatoes" but the plate came out with plenty of tomato. The onions were sliced so thin they might as well have not been there. I also got charged an extra 75¢ for more Tzatziki, making it the first time I've been charged extra for a condiment in a long time. The server did make sure my iced tea stayed refilled. However, I was never asked how the food was, or if everything was OK (much like the last visit). I think I'll search for a better Greek option in Denver. read more
