I really wanted to like this place, but unfortunately it was a disappointment. The highlights were the lentil soup and the hummus. Both were fresh, flavorful, and the portion sizes were generous. Unfortunately, everything else missed the mark. The chicken kebabs had an unexpected sweetness that just didn't work for me. The side salad looked wilted and didn't seem very fresh, and even the dressing was overly sweet. The rice was bland and had almost no flavor. The biggest letdown was the garlic sauce--it tasted like it was made with mayonnaise instead of a traditional garlic sauce, and I found it unpleasant. The overall atmosphere didn't help. The restaurant didn't seem particularly clean, the décor and ambiance felt like they had been thrown together, and the employees came across as disconnected rather than welcoming or engaged. I can easily overlook a place that's been put together on a budget if the food is outstanding, but in this case, it simply wasn't. Aside from the lentil soup and hummus, I didn't enjoy the meal. We decided to try this restaurant since it was close by. Parking is street-only, which is something to keep in mind. Our server was very friendly and offered helpful recommendations. The salad was fresh, and the soup was nicely balanced. We ordered the kefta and kobideh plates--the rice was delicious and fluffy. However, the pita bread was a bit hard, and the meat skewers were slightly overcooked and a bit dry for our taste. We also tried the hot sauce--it wasn't very spicy, more on the vinegary side. I've eaten here several times, but had not been in for awhile. I brought a friend. This is a family-run business. The space is basic, but comfortable. The staff is very welcoming and helpful. The food is fantastic and the portions are generous. Prices are very reasonable. We shared the Baba Ganoush to start. This is pureed, baked eggplant. Here tahini and pomegranate molasses were added. I am not a big eggplant fan, but this was phenomenal. The presentation was gorgeous with the puree spread out beautifully on a large dish, topped with olives, paprika, parsley, and a very generous dollop of delicious olive oil. An outstanding version of this dish. We received a large plate of very fresh pita triangles to go with the baba ganoush. These were great. We definitely used them to scrape every speck of eggplant off that platter! We both ordered the Gyro Plate. The gyro meat was very authentic, extremely tender, and very flavorful. The plate included a large tower of savory rice, a rich tzatziki sauce, a nice side of silky hummus, some pickled vegetables, and more pita. Another delicious offering and a huge portion. We also had soup as the entrees come with soup or salad. My friend tried the lentil soup and said it was flavorful and tasty. I had the tomato soup which was hardy and richly-flavored. This was a great meal. There's a pastry case with a choice of many Middle Eastern desserts. Everything Was Excellent!! I ordered the lentil soup, dolmades, lamb kabobs, shrimp kabobs, and beef kobideh, and everything was excellent from start to finish. The lentil soup was warm and comforting, and the dolmades came with a side of pickled cauliflower that was surprisingly delicious and added the perfect tangy bite. My husband and I were throughly impressed! We had the meat combo platter, which was made up of a variety of skewers, a salad, hummus, pita, and rice. Everything was seasoned to perfection, and the skewers were very tender. Usually we consider the rice a garnish, but their rice was seasoned with cinnamon and saffron- quite the delicious combination! For $1 more you can do a Greek salad rather than a house salad, which I would recommend. My husband was in love with the hot sauce they made in house, although it was a little spicy for a huge bite for me. We initially wanted the kunefa for dessert, but the server said they stopped carrying it because the cheese in it was sourced from Palestine. They served various baklavas instead though, and we tried the dark chocolate one. It was delicious! We loved the balance of syrup to pastry, and the flavor was excellent. The entree came with a very good side salad, hummus, pita bread, rice and vegetables. The lamb was cooked perfectly, and all the side items were delicious. I've lived across this spot for 2 years and I FINALLY made it over for takeout. My only disappointment is that I missed out on eating at this place for 2 years!!! This is the real deal when it comes to Mediterranean food. My goooodness. The gyro is some of the best I've ever had. The falafels were soo tasty and fresh. It was creamy and rich in flavor. The presentation was excellent! Then, we ate the chicken shawarma and the gyro plate. The chicken was dry but the garlic sauce helped it with moisture and additional flavor. The gyro was tender and had a nice flavor, but it also was missing being juicy. Came for their lunch special (weekdays until 3p) which is pretty good! $13.50 for a kebab (or two if you get the ground lamb kebab) with side of salad or soup. I got beef kebab which was delicious and lentil soup which I found really good as well! My friends said they've had better lentil soup (I am not as well versed) but still enjoyed their dishes. We were initially intrigued by their website's photos and options on the menu so we decided to walk over after our visit to Denver Botanic. We were able to be seated right away as a group of 6. Unfortunately, the only available table was right by the window, where it was super sunny and there were no shades, so we were pretty toasty. Our server asked us if we were ready to order after we had barely sat down. We started with the labneh. It was very creamy but definitely lacked flavor and olive oil. The pita did not seem fresh at all. The falafel we ordered was actually pretty good. I liked the addition of sesame seeds. The rest of the food was just fine, but what really disappointed me was the garlic sauce. I always look forward to garlic sauce at Middle Eastern restaurants, and the one we got was not good at all. The owner was easy to work with, the pricing was fair (about $225 plus tax/tip/delivery) for lunch for 15 people, and the food was delicious. The falafel was flavorful and not greasy, the chicken and beef skewer meat was tender, and the hummus was some of the best I have had in the Denver metro area. I have really been loving the veggie plate here. The sheer variety of food included in it makes it veggie heaven. You get a little bit if everything. Falafel, tabouli salad, turmeric rice, baba ganoush, hummus and pita, grape leaf, lentil soup. And as a vegetarian leaning person I sometimes find it difficult to get much variety in my diet and this plate really makes up for that. It's a vegetarian feast! And the portions do not disappoint! One important thing to understand about Yaya's is that they are one of the best takeout options in the city. When takeout is usually limited to pizza and Tai food. Yaya's is very good at making their food translate well in takeout form. This may be a result of their small dining room. And they will make things nice for you if you prefer to dine in. But for me, getting to enjoy fantastic, quality food in the comfort of my own home is a huge game c Wether you prefer a nice lamb shank or you are looking for more meat free options the food here is so nourishing and fresh and consistent. It just makes me feel so good even when I eat too much of it. And the veggie plate being a few dollars cheaper gives you one more good reason to go veg!
