I used to love Pete's but lately it has gone downhill. The omelets are much smaller and over cooked. Most portions of everything are smaller yet more expensive all the time. The booths are getting old and have become very uncomfortable and last, but not least, they make you feel rushed. It's definitely not a place where you can plan on sitting and chatting at all. Upon entry, guests are greeted with TV showing Fox News, and artwork on the walls are reproductions of biblical and (christian) spiritual scenes. conversation at the booth next to me was two older wyt men discussing how happy they were that pride month was over so they did not have to have someone "shoving their lifestyle agenda in their faces". I came here once years ago with my dad (before the pandemic) and we loved it, and now finally made it back, and it was another great meal. I think I had an omelet last time, this time I had the Fried Haddock Platter. They let me sub potato salad for fries at no cost. The food was very good and the portions were generous. I especially liked all the herbs in the potato salad! For dessert this time, I had a slice of pumpkin cheesecake - this was amazing, easily rivalling cheesecake I've had at much more upscale restaurants. It had carrot cake as a crust which was really cool! I tasted my dad's Bavarian chocolate cheesecake (layers of cheesecake, chocolate mousse, and chocolate cake) was also very impressed with it. I remember that I had the Rice Pudding on my last visit and it was delightful (although not as decadent as the cakes). All the tables were full when we got there (11:30 on Thursday), and there was one couple in line ahead of us, but we were seated within 5 minutes, and the food also came out quickly, so it's clear they have an efficient service system. Our waitress was very nice. I like the atmosphere. The decor is a little different from typical diners - they have a large fish tank by the entrance and a few murals. All the furniture is in good condition and clean. The vibe is very relaxed and positive. I hope that it won't be so many years again before my next visit. read more

Came at 8am to have breakfast on a Friday morning. No wait and this place is cute. The price is really worth the amount of food they give you. My friend and I both got omelets with juice. I got the Combo with cheese added in/orange juice and she got the Veggie Deluxe with cheese/apple juice. They came with home fries and toast. So much food, we weren't able to finish. The cups of juice were filled to the brim. Overall it was delicious! Although when we were done we weren't sure to wait for the server to pick up the card or if we had to bring it up to the front. We paid at the front but I'm still not sure if she just didn't come back or if we are supposed to pay at the front. Other than that I would totally come back to this place. The food was excellent, the coffee was perfect, and the atmosphere was everything I could have asked for. Typical Diner fare on the menu. Coffee is fresh and tasty. No bitterness. I ordered eggs over easy , homemade corned beef hash and wheat toast. Nice big pieces of toast. The eggs were a bit over cooked. Much closer to over medium. The homemade corned beef hash was a disappointment, as it lacked that salty beefy goodness I've come to expect in the dish. The potatoes in the hash were just borrowed from their home fries, as they were not diced and not seasoned at all. It made what is normally a savory flavorful side, a fairly bland affair. Service was attentive and coffee refilled without needing to flag someone down. I've eaten here a few times and service is always consistently good. The food comes out quickly. This was our lunch stop on a day I was the driver for an older lady who needed to travel down to BGM/Vestal to pick up some meds, etc., at two spots. As has been her custom since I started to this for her, she asked me where we would stop for lunch. I had pointed out this spot for lunch some time as we passed it earlier -- and this is the spot she chose. I had a BLT + coleslaw; she had the shrimp basket with fries and coleslaw. I did get rice pudding for dessert. Our meal was good. The lady with me was telling me right there at the table what she'd get if she came here again. My spouse and I went to Pete's a few weeks ago after a drs appointments in hopes to get a bacon, egg and cheese sandwich. We were seated visually towards the kitchen and what looks like their drink station and dessert section. We sat down and order and a few moments later our food was out. As we began eating I lifted my head up and observed a waitress eating a pudding cup, the cook downing a soda both in customer view. I then observed a second cook in their order window eating. All three went about to do their duties but what was observed not one of them washed their hands. We immediately stopped eating asked for our check and went to pay. The owner is the person managing the register. When brought to his attention he didn't even show he cared or even commented. Put his head down and cashed us out. Didn't offer a refund, didn't offer to cover the bill or anything. Absolutely disgusting Pete's legacy. Get your shut together. Board of health should be called on this place. Out and about mid afternoon, and having not yet eaten for the day, decided to get some lunch. I really didn't know where to go because I usually just eat breakfast and dinner so lunch food is usually confusing for me! I decided to try this place out because it was local and had some recommendations on yelp. First impressions from the outside, didn't look like much but it's a diner so, I proceeded on. Walking in the entranceway was a little dirty, and inside is very outdated and felt like a time warp. I decided to try the lunch special Italian sausage peppers and onions, hold the Italian roll. I really couldn't have any of the sides they offered, so I ordered a Greek salad, I was hoping just for an up charge but they charged me the full price. Whatever no biggie. The salad came,it was really quite generic, It was OK, the dressing was good, it had mixed greens which I really don't care for, would have preferred just straight on lettuce, but it wasn't bad. The sausage was pretty good, it was cooked well with enough peppers and onions. Again, decent but nothing special. So, 20 bucks for lunch with a tip, not bad, I don't think I'd go back though. I'm sure it's good for breakfast,But the building itself and interior were kind of was a turn off. I just returned from a tasty lunch at Pete's Legacy Diner with the wife and my mother. This was my first trip to Pete's for lunch. I've been there a few times for breakfast and I've never been disappointed. I ordered the Greek Gyro and it was awesome! I've ordered gyros before that are presented sloppily (is that a word?) and with wayyyy too much sauce on them. This gyro was perfectly wrapped in foil with the perfect amount of sauce on it. My wife had a cheeseburger (she approved) and my mom ordered a hot dog with their homemade chili as a topping and a greek salad (she also approved). For dessert, my wife and I split the Bavarian Cream Cake which was plenty big for two to share and delicious. My mom ordered a cup of rice pudding in a to-go container but it never made it out the door! All in all, Pete's is an awesome diner with great food and fair prices. The place has always been full when I've gone so business seems to be very good. Their hours are from 6 am-3 pm and I asked our server if they plan on extending the hours to cater to the dinner crowd. Her response was "I sure hope not! I like my hours the way they are." So if you're craving Pete's on a work day, go ahead and take an extended lunch or just develop a nasty cough when you call in sick to work - it'll be worth it. read more

This is probably one of my favorite diners in the area. I've never had a less than pleasant experience here, even when I've arrived with hordes of people without notice. Ever so accommodating and friendly, the staff and (usually) Pete usher you in with a warm welcome. The food is fresh, tasty and cheap! I know there are diners in the area that are cheaper, but for the portion size and the quality of the food, I'd say that the menu offerings are definitely of great value. Service is also very quick; you're not kept waiting very long, whether you're waiting for a table or for your food. I've been to plenty of diners on Long Island, and Pete's ranks fairly high against them. It manages to transcend the negative stigma of "typical diner food" by simply providing great food with quality service. read more

The bread is amazing! It's homemade at a local bakery, huge, and delicious. All of the other food is good and filling as well. If you're lucky Pete himself will be there to great you and give you a huge smile. We've been going to this place since we were freshman and always pick this diner over others in the area for its consistently good service and food. As far as diners go, this is the pinnacle. This is what you hope every diner would be like. They brew a decent cup of coffee, make their own bread, have good sized portions of food with moderate to low prices. For example, a cup of coffee with two eggs, toast, and home fries is going to cost you probably around $5. You could probably find that same deal down at Danny's on Main but you'd be missing out on the homemade toast and the delicious home fried potatoes with onions. Besides, I find Danny's a little on the greasy side. Pete's skips most of the grease and seems to be, for the most part, pretty high quality stuff. This morning we went to this restaurant as we do every Sunday. My husband ordered breakfast. I ordered a corn muffin and coffee. My corn muffin taste like old oil and didn't taste like corn at all. The waitress was very nice and offered me a different flavor but I decided to just have the coffee. When the bill arrived we were charged for the muffin. When I asked the waitress about it she said that her boss said I could speak to him about it. I asked him if he could remove the$2.85. He was very Arrogant and said no. I ask him why. He said that he couldn't take things off people bills just because people don't like how things taste. I could understand if I ate a big part of it but I just took off a small piece. I was so upset I'm a regular customer, how could he do that for $2.85. He Angrily took the bill from me and told me the meals was on him. How insulting, I told him I didn't need his Charity and if $2.85 was more important to him than treating his regular well I was going to pay the bill. I could see how uncomfortable his waitress were. They lowered their eye and Quietly wished me a Merry Christmas. My only regret was that I didn't leave our waitress a tip because I was so angry and disappointed. I told him he should be ashamed of himself. After all that when we looked at the receipt outside he didn't charge me for the muffin????. I don't know if he was having s bad day. But I hope he thinks about it and replies with a Apology. As for now my family and I will never go there again.
