I've read about this place and have tried to go several times before but it wasn't open when the hours listed on the web said. Finally got it right (7:30am for me) and was rewarded with a nice meal in a familiar diner setting. The portions were ample and hot. The eggs cooked well. The home fries were a nice combo of crispy and soft. The sausage gravy was obviously homemade but the biscuits could have been larger. Parents, consider how picky your kids might be if you're not getting breakfast, but there is grilled cheese as well as chicken tenders so every age should be able to enjoy this gem hidden away. Service was great, even the other waitress was making sure our food was alright! They definitely make you feel at home! Ambiance was good, at first it looks a little suspicious to the judgmental mind but it's really not. Love this place ! Only been twice for breakfast but each time the meal was top notch, very personable service, with attention to details. Owner is often around cleaning windows , filling coffee cups and just welcoming everyone to his "home". The vibes here are really "groovy" as it's tie dye and Grateful Dead greetings everywhere along with lots of pictures on the walls . Went there for lunch, & 4 of us each ordered quesadillas and they were not even warm when we got them. They were lacking cheese too. I opened mine to add tomato, lettuce and salsa & there was barely enough cheese to hold it together and wasn't even warm where the cheese would normally ooze and stretch. I was there years ago for breakfast when the place was smaller and it seemed a lot better. I can say I probably will not return as my friends won't either. Then there was the mouse that ran across the floor after we were finished eating. We're not naive, sure other places have one occasionally but it is off putting to say the least. I admit that I am a snob when it comes to fried onion rings. I am trying to eat healthier food so, if I am going to splurge on fried food, the onion rings MUST be perfect. Perfection is on the menu at the Village Diner. The texture alone is worth the calories. If the server suggests ranch instead of catsup, she is right; catsup covers the delicate umami of the rings. Also, look for the "forgotten specials". It's worth an extra 20 minutes at the gym. read more

If you have an open mind, you will give this 5 stars too! Traveling out of town from VA, this place met our Yelp criteria of at least 4.5 stars (4.6) and more than 100 reviews. Driving up, we weren't so sure, but we always find that the "hole in the wall" places are the absolute best. When we entered we were greeted by the friendliest staff (maybe the owner?) and the wait staff were just as friendly. The local patrons were friendly and talkative and made their own food recommendations. We ended up with the sausage gravy and biscuits, which we are both very picky about, and it didn't disappoint! Biscuits were fresh and gravy was hearty. We saw a few other items on the menu that intrigued us so we will be back tomorrow. However, while waiting for a table, which turned out to be a blessing, I watched as cockroaches crawled all over the bread and wraps that were kept in the side storage room by the back door entrance and waiting area. Not only is the diner cozy, but it appears that they care for the stray cats in the area and provide them with food and water (major points there!) This diner is super unsuspecting but was some of the best food I had on my recent trip to the area. I came on a Saturday at about 10:30 and waited maybe 20 minutes for a table (party of 2). I opted for the seasonal pumpkin waffle and was not disappointed. It had great spice flavor, was super fluffy and I loved the addition of whipped cream. I also ordered sides of breakfast potatoes and cheese grits. I don't usually love cheese in my grits but I was in the mood for them. I will say I still wish they had been plain instead of cheese but they had a great consistency. The breakfast potatoes almost stole the show. Super crispy on the outside, almost creamy/silky on the inside with great seasoning. On top of all of this, the service was great and food came out extremely quickly. The first time I was here I had a great burger, a fantastic salad and superb customer service. But this time I went in was different. The Waitress, a short mixed girl gave me a menu and told me to take my time, but I told her I was ready to order and it's to go, but she walked away. I sat there for 5 solid minutes watching her flirt with some guy 2 seats away from me. She completely ignored me and swooned over the guy, regarding, I guess his establishment, bar and interaction on whatever night they ran into each other. I literally sat there looking at her while she was flirting away without a care in the world. I felt ignored and invisible. And since I was invisible, so was my money. So I walked out. That was piss poor customer service on her part and hopefully it's not a constant, because I thought I found a new diner. I work a job where time is of the essence, and if she just listened to what I said originally, I would not be leaving such a bad review. read more

Was in Binghamton for work and was looking for a local place for breakfast. What a great place! Driving by it looks like a greasy spoon and inside doesn't disappoint. It was like walking back into time. The place was clean and the food was amazing. Was really cool to walk in and see the brown eggs sitting by the grill. I set at the bar and the cook was very friendly and we had a good conversation. You could tell he loved what he was doing. The server was very attentive too and did a great job. The fried chicken sandwiches deserve a shout out. Apparently Binghamton is obsessed with marinating chicken and I am thankful for it. The fried chicken here is marinated before its fried and it makes a huge impact. This is very unique and not standard at all in most places. Super flavorful!! I ordered a burger stuffed with jack cheese and jalapeño peppers, and our waitress noted it would be hard to get it really rare, as the patty needed to be cooked enough to melt the cheese. So noted. It came out with the cheese and jalapeño atop the patty, and cooked medium. Oh well. Good flavor, onion rings were just ok, but their home brewed iced tea (with a free refill) was better than I make myself. Blue Eyes fish sandwich special was very good. The Village Diner is one of the best diners in the area especially for breakfast! It is a favorite in my family and we're pretty picky, but the Village Diner has something for all of us. My personal favorite is the breakfast pizza which is a pretty recent addition along with the pizza the breakfast burrito is great too! As for lunch the fish tacos are great they also have burgers and they perfect their fries and onion rings! The establishment was so cute and very clean! The service was excellent, our waitress was so sweet and accommodating. My mom and I split a mushroom swiss burger cooked to medium and the juices were pouring out when I bit into it. I don't know how they season their mushrooms but I was blown away!! We also got their homemade corned beef hash which had a nice flavor, but some of the potatoes were undercooked. That won't keep me from a five star review because that burger was something else! Plus the fries on the side were hot, crispy, and everything was cheap compared to where I'm from so no complaints here. We almost judged this book by its cover. I went back to read the reviews. I'm so glad we went in. We got there 5 minutes after they opened so they weren't really crowded. When we left, there was not a single table open. So here goes our review. The service was super fast and very friendly. Our server was a seasoned professional and on point. The food came out fast and hot and perfectly cooked. I had the Greek omelet and it was delicious. My wife had the pumpkin Belgian waffle and she loved it. We are visiting the area from out of state for the holiday weekend and we will definitely go back tomorrow. Don't worry about the sketchy look of the outside area.
