I brought my 1996 Miata to this shop about a year and a half ago to diagnose extremely unusual idle issues and a non-working speedometer. What I experienced was unprofessional, disappointing, and ultimately proved they either mishandled my car or failed to properly diagnose very basic problems. When I got my car back, I immediately noticed that my gauge cluster hood (the plastic visor over the instrument cluster) was shattered. This was NOT broken when I brought the car in. When I confronted them about it, they denied responsibility and claimed it was already like that. This was extremely frustrating, especially since the mechanic admitted he had removed parts around the cluster to inspect it. Anyone familiar with older Miatas knows those cluster hoods are very fragile, and improper handling can easily crack them. Instead of taking accountability, they insisted they didn't do it. They tried to show me CCTV footage, but the footage they showed was AFTER the mechanic had already worked on and test driven the car. This proves nothing. There was no clear footage showing the condition of the interior when the car first arrived. It felt like they were trying to deflect responsibility rather than resolve the issue honestly. The owner also became defensive and emphasized how reputable their shop was and how long they had been in business. My dad came with me to discuss the situation, and the interaction became uncomfortable and confrontational. Instead of resolving the damage they caused, they simply waived the diagnostic fee, which doesn't make up for breaking a part on my car. Replacement cluster hoods cost around $100, and the principle of accountability mattered more than the money. Their diagnosis itself was also incorrect. They told me my idle issues were likely caused by a bad MAF sensor. I didn't fully trust their conclusion, so I took my car to another shop for a second opinion. They disagreed with the MAF diagnosis. Later, I personally discovered the real issue was a faulty fuel pressure regulator, which I replaced myself and fixed the idle problems. Even worse, I eventually found that my speedometer cable was completely unplugged. This is a basic mechanical connection that should have been checked during diagnosis. Either they unplugged it and forgot to reconnect it, or they failed to notice something incredibly obvious. Either way, it demonstrates poor diagnostic effort and lack of attention to detail. They also test drove my car without informing me beforehand. While test drives can be part of diagnosis, the lack of communication combined with the damage and incorrect diagnosis only added to my distrust. Overall, my experience with this shop was extremely negative. They broke a part of my car, denied responsibility, misdiagnosed the actual issues, and failed to identify something as simple as an unplugged speedometer cable. The only resolution offered was a waived diagnostic fee, which felt like an attempt to avoid accountability rather than properly resolve the situation. I would not trust this shop with my vehicle again and cannot recommend them based on my experience. read more

Unfortunately, I moved too far away to continue to use their services, but you definitely should give them a try. They don't do unnecessary repairs to make extra $$$, only what is needed, are very transparent about what they are doing and keep you updated on their progress. This is my 3rd experience with Pete's Service Center and I have thoroughly enjoyed the great service I have received and thought a review was deserved. It goes without saying that if you find a great mechanic you found gold. This team is gold. This last experience they really went above and beyond. My car would not start due to a deteriorating battery. I could not get it to start. I had to get my car Smog tested prior to renewing my registration, and my registration was set to expire Jan 31st! I finally had to get my insurance company to tow it to Pete's Service Center. They received the car with just 3 business days before my registration expired. My car doesn't have a regular battery either. It's a luxury import and the battery must be ordered. How was I going to get this car fixed, Smog tested, and registered in 3 days??? Okay now comes the awesomeness. Pete's Service Center not only tracked down the right battery and replaced it, but they took the car to get Smog tested (waiting in a long line), then paid to have my car registration renewed on Jan31st. This is a family operated business and they all are wonderful!!! I took my son's truck there yesterday and they gave me a ride home because it was going to take a while. When it was ready, I was called to see if I needed a ride back which I declined because I had arranged one. They are honest people and don't look to rip customers off. As I was leaving the shop getting into my truck a random man who didn't speak English flagged me down. Asked me in Spanish if I could call 911 because an old man was unconscious across the street. The main mechanic (forgot his name ‍) noticed me out there and asked if everything was okay so I explained the situation. He ran across the street and stayed with the old man checking on him and stayed with him the entire time until the medics arrived. And his wife Shelly had a demanding and rude customer while I was there and she handled her with such tact and grace. I made an appt but when I arrived earlier they took my car in almost immediately. I had questions about if my transmission needed to be flushed, and one of the mechanics, I think Anthony (big blue eyes) was honest upfront and informative on why that wasn't the right service for my vehicle at this time. I I always bring my car here. They are so nice and helpful. They always give fair price and tell me if something isn't worth fixing. Example is my 2003 Honda. It had so many issues. They told me what was worth fixing and what wasn't. They didn't just fix it all and charge me more then the car is worth. They fixed enough to get a year out of the car, which is what I wanted. This past Sunday, I had a flat tire, so I drove very slowly over to a gas station by me, filled it up with air and for good measure used that Fix-A-Flat temporary tire sealant. My husband and I have taken our car here a few times in the past and because the people were so nice he/we over looked the subpar service and settled for the patch and go. Well this time our car was returned to us DAMAGED! We were told we needed a new alternator and when we picked our car up our gas hand was broken! The owner insisted he did not do it and refuse to fix it! He tried to charge us another $100 for the gas hand that he broke. They also had our car for 6 days to replace the alternator. On day five they gave our car back, we got 2 lights up the street stopped at a store and the car did not start. THE CAR WAS NOT FIXED thus we had to take it back for them to play with it yet another day. SAVE YOUR TIME DONT GO TO THIS RINKY DINK PLACE. WOW!!!... where to begin..... I am dissapointed in my last and FINAL experience with Ted and his whole crew at petes service center. I have been coming here for services on my car and also my family's cars since 2004. This place was nothing but the best and I felt comfotable leaving my car there for any kind of service that was needed. I take care of my car and keep up with preventative maintenance always. I drive a lot, so i constantly need an oil change at least 3 times a month and this was the place I brought my car to. My last oil change was on 2/13/2017. I smelled something burning from the exhaust and decided to open up the hood, just to find out they didn't properly secure the oil cap and oil was splashed all over the engine bay. Anthony was very rude and acting tough even though he was at fault. Anthony said he did the oil change himself. Ted agreed to steam clean my engine at his place of choosing, not at the dealer where I wanted because this is a brand new 2016 car and I didn't want anything to void my warranty. Instead of apologizing to me or giving me credit on my next service or something to show courtesy and sympathy, Ted hands me the address and phone number to the detail shop he deals with and tells me these exact words: "Hey, do me a favor, after this steam cleaning don't bring me your car." Great just great. Is that how you treat a customer? What a shame after all these years. Never again. Beware people. read more
