I grew up across the street and would go here pretty often. I love all their flavors! Pete and Angela are the sweetest and love the idea of having a small family business . When I was younger they let me go inside and help out. They have been there for a really long time and also sell fruits, veggies and other such. I just found out recently Pete passed away. Will miss seeing his smiling face. read more

NONONO.. i went to petes I live right up the street and when I got there the lady did NOT greet me as well as my daughter. my daughter said hello she said "what do you want" ok cool, I told her what my daughter wanted which was a cotton candy so she went to her ice machine and shaved the ice and put the cotton candy flavoring. she said "3 dollars" all I said was whoo that's expensive and she says "go somewhere else then" I told her I don't got time for that I have places to be . I give her the 3 dollars she counts it and she doesn't want one of my dollars because it has a rip the size of an ant. I take my dollar back and give her a new one . she gives the snowball to my 5 year old daughter and says bye. we walk away about to sit at these dirty benches. and my daughter screams because there is ants in her ice shavings!! I went back to the booth and threw the ice on the lady. she threatened to call the police so me and my daughter left. first and last time going there. read more

This place was not good -- I usually go to 'I Love Me Some SnoBalls' in Clarksville MD but decided to try Pete's Snowballs with my 3 year old grand baby. Directions were pretty tricky because it's in a residential yard. The attendant [woman] was sitting outside and walked in the store booth when we arrived. She didn't turn any lights on and it was very dark inside. When my grandson asked for the flavors he wanted, the attendant, without any friendliness or smile and standing in the dark scared him saying, "NO RAINBOW". This place is near where I live and I've been wanting to try it for a while. I've stopped here for honey a couple times before when the adjacent produce stand was closed. The woman at the snowball stand wasn't to excited about walking 10 ft to get a bottle even though a sign clearly states "inquire at snowball stand when closed". This time I came specifically have a snowball. The proprietor was in the house (understandable on a hot day) and came out to help me. She was on the phone and didn't as much as acknowledge me when she walked by. No problem, she was on the phone after all. I went to the window to order and I waited . . . . and waited . . . . as I listened to her continuing her phone conversation. Eventually I ordered a small Banana flavored one since . . . . well I like bananas and have no idea what Batman, Spongebob, or Titanic flavors taste like. I had a few bites then threw the rest away. Just not my thing I guess. The flavor was fine but I guess I was expecting shaved ice but this was more like ice gravel. I just didn't like crunching it. I understand that it is probably a regional thing but I was expecting it to be like biting into an actual snowball. The low rating isn't for this though. It is for the unfriendly service spaning about one visit a year for several years. read more

There are parts of Howard County that the suburbs have not erased, and Pete's Snowball Stand in Columbia is one of the holdouts. Pete's sits at the northern end of Oakland Mills Road, and the house there -- with its fruit orchards, vegetable field, and barbed wire fence -- shouts that it was here before Rouse and his insurance company investors. Pete's is a family-run business that sells snowballs as a summer treat. There are places to park, but it is also a walk-up or bike-up business because the Columbia developments flow right up to the fence. This is shaved ice like Snowballs in Clarkville or the Snowball Stand on Rte 99 -- ice with flavoring in styrofoam cups. Pete's is open about 11:30 am to 7:30 pm on summer days. Pete's also sells produce, including peaches, apples and tomatoes that you can see ripening in their fields. They also sell their own honey. read more

Gross! Snowball tasted like cough medicine, flavors were all wrong and she put too much in! The lady Was rude and short with me and there was a really foul smell near the stand. Never again!!! I tossed it as soon as I could. Waste of money and overpriced. read more

Go for the INCREDIBLE yellow plums he grows and sells in the summer-as well as the fresh figs in late august. You will find these now where else this close to Columbia. They are Greek-Americans, and also press their own fresh olives, fresh honey, and other goodies. Truly a hidden suburban gem! read more

I have been to Pete's Snowball twice. I don't know how it got a 3 star rating... I love Pete's Snowballs. It is really Mom & Pop place. It is in front of someone's house. I have tried the Skyline and Titanic...both were blue. I liked the Skylite a lot. It is cash only. I only buy a small (It's enough for me!) and those are $1.50. It is $0.50 extra for the diet or Hawaiian flavors. My boyfriend liked the Coconut over the Batman flavor. The snowballs are good. I really like the atmosphere and supporting an independent business...and it's better than Rita's! Another plus is that they sell local pure honey...which is really the best and only honey people should purchase (do a little research if you don't believe me!) It's good honey...$4 for a honey bear. The woman who runs Pete Snowballs is kind. I hope this place stays in Columbia forever! read more

Excellent produce! I picked up some tomatoes and peaches the other day and they are great. Also, the family presses their own olives in Greece and brings them back. The olive oil is excellent as are the olives they have behind the counter. I'm going to be a regular here. Pete is very friendly and rightfully proud of his work. read more

Love, love, love their snowballs, but am more in love with the produce. Big, healthy, juicy tomatoes, onions, cucumbers, green pepper, fresh honey, bee pollen (apparently it is great for allergies), and other fantastic seasonal offerings. And those peaches......love them. I am walking here for all my little produce needs. Didn't really have a good experience with the lady behind the snowball counter, but the gentleman in the produce section was awesome, and very informative. Definitely going back!!!! read more

Expensive and not very good! I get snoballs all the time and the marshmallow here is like fluff from the jar! I got a medium wild cherry which tasted like regular cherry but wasn't bad and marshmallow on top it was $4. They charge you a dollar extra. I also asked if she could put it on the bottom and she said no? I'll stick to ferndale and other places who are cheaper and taste better. read more

The nicest people ever to grace Columbia. Pete and his wife have a private farm on one of the parcels within our communities. The snowballs are just the tip of the iceberg. No pun intended. The fresh produce and fruit being sold in the shed right behind the stand is off the charts. The Silverqueen corn is second to none. The white peaches, not be topped and his Ginger gold apples are to die for. Bought a fig tree from Pete and am now growing my own. Pete also has an apiary on the premises and the honey is top notch. The best gem of all is the fresh olive oil from his wifes family. Pete's farm is one of the best things about living in The Jeffers Hill/Sewells Orchard area. I just hope the new traffic circle does not impede access to his property which I fear it may. read more
