Good service and nice food, a lot of different steaks, warm place. Came here 2 times, good for dinner and lunch.

I wasn't sure what to expect entering through a long narrow hall between old walls in back. The dining area was packed but we were seated in 5 minutes and greeted by a smiling Greek woman who appeared to delight in her job. Dinner was served fast: Greek salad, gyro, fish and chips and pasta with alfraid sauce. We all thought we had the best meal on the table. The Greek waitress continued to efficiently serve and buss tables in a busy restaurant. We were never wanting refills as our drinks were refilled as soon as they were gone. As the dinner crush waned the server was able to talk more to us. She's the owner and was genuinely interested in why we were in town and our lives in general. She called over her son and proceeded to try to arrange our hotel for us. Tremendous food welcoming and friendly atmosphere. We felt almost like part of the family. Pete's is reliable dining. It's not 4- or 5-star dining, but it doesn't claim to be. The menu offers something for every palate at very reasonable prices. The salad bar is ample with some unique offerings. Dinner specials are offered nightly and Sundays. Service is prompt and friendly. I've never been sure where the "steak house" moniker came from, but Pete's is not a traditional steak house. Maybe it once was, but not any longer. That said, however, Pete's does offer a good array of entrees. My personal favorites are the salmon and red snapper (I love fish!), and even though they're not ocean fresh, they're still well prepared and taste good. The jumbo shrimp and the shrimp basket are good, too. Yes, they're frozen and deep fried, but I like fried shrimp and Atchison's not exactly on the Gulf. The fried chicken, chicken fried steak, ham steak, lasagne and spaghetti will satisfy as well. The pizzas with their hand-formed crusts are the best in town. Pete's offers lighter fare and salads if you have dietary restrictions. All-in-all, filling and good-tasting food at reasonable prices. read more

Can't say enough good things about this small town gem! The owners seemed to know everyone and call them by name, and the staff was super friendly. Jess was our server and because she didn't recognize us, asked us if it was our first time. I got the special - chicken fried steak, potato, veggies, Texas toast, and a salad bar. It was delicious. Not greasy, tasty breading but not too much, gravy was seasoned just right! My boyfriend finished it off for me and said it may the best CFS he's ever had. He got the strip, and it was seasoned well, not too fatty, and cooked perfectly. We finished it off with homemade strawberry rhubarb pie with ice cream. Holy wow it was good!!! If you are ever in this town, this place is a must-stop! And, the whole bill was only $35!!!!! read more

Very dissatisfied with Pete's Steak House. Was in town because my 2 daughters has a singing competition and we only had 1 hour to order and eat. We found Pete's Steak House and we decided to go there. So we ordered 2 medium rare steaks, twice baked potato, shrimp alfredo, and a shrimp basket with fries. it took over 40 minutes to get our food, not to mention 40 minutes just to get my salad. the fries were not fried they were baked. the shrimp is frozen pre bought as well as the fries. The Steak was tender and juicy and cooked to perfection but had no seasoning, no flavoring, nothing. The twice baked potato was bland the only flavoring it had was the bacon and cheese. How about add some sour cream to the mix. The fettuccine noodles tasted like butter and the alfredo sauce was runny and didnt taste good. Needless to say my daughter got sick from it. She couldnt go back to the competition. She laid in the back of our vehicle trying not to vomit. Our other daughter on the other hand was smart not to touch it. She left it in the bag and we took her to Dairy Queen. But save your money. Its not worth it. They dont show any prices on the menu. read more

Extremely Slow service, not acknowledging you as you entered, leaving you to stand ask to sit after a lengthy time. isn't bring us silverware, salt, pepper or ketchup. Asked REPEATEDLY for refills. Gentleman tild us his servers " gave him the shaft" I said but that's not our fault. Food was cold. We finally became tired of waiting for our check And got up to pay. If I could give this zero I would. My husband and I were in this quaint small town and thought we would like to eat in a local place, I got the chicken and he got a burger. The place was really warm though, when it's 90-100 degrees outside you like to have some relief while you eat, but it was very humid and warm inside. Also the smoke from the kitchen became overwhelming at one point but it eventually got better. I'd go back but not often. read more

This is a quaint little place. Wide array of items on the menu. Odd little salad bar. An 11-year-old boy sat us at our table and then checked back frequently with us. I had a burger and fries. Both of which could have been a lot warmer. My coworkers' food looked good, but I think that the surroundings didn't help it be better. Overall, I found the experience to be a little strange. My wife & I went to Atchison to visit our 2 grandsons who are both students at Benedictine College. We decided to take them out for dinner. We looked online and Pete's looked & sounded good. We entered and went to the station to be seated. An older man came up to us and kind of growled at us to pick our own seat. We sat and he put menus in front of us. It appeared that there was only one food server handling all the tables. We got water within about 10 minutes. The server took our orders about 15 minutes later. I got chicken fried chicken, my wife got salmon, grandson 1 got chicken fried steak and grandson 2 got surf & turf. My food was small. That was the smallest chicken fried chicken I've ever seen, must of been the runt of the flock. Very little gravy for it either. Mashed potatoes needed work. The corn was yuck. The greek salad was good. Grandson 1 had a tiny chicken fried steak also. Everyone said the food was ok. Will not go back. read more

Will not go back ever. The owner tested positive for Covid but went to the restaurant anyway sitting talking with customers and employees. Once the employees found out some got tested. If the employees asked if everyone had been tested negative before returning they were fired for asking. Bad business management. Too bad they decided to be irresponsible and not care about lives but only about himself. No reason he couldn't quarantine and act responsible. After 25 yrs working in the restaurant industry I have finally found a restaurant that is so bad and poorly run that it scares me to think that others have to eat there. Especially after pointing out the flaws only to be verbally attacked by the owner who apparently is oblivious or doesn't care about quality food. These people can't even cook french fries correctly. 2nd day cooks can cook fries. We must of gotten a first day cook. No offer to cook new fries after it was brought to their attention. I ordered the two piece chicken special and received a piece of chicken that a half dollar coin could covered it was so small. Again, the response from the wait staff was again unexceptable. I guess the typically approach to a guest concern is to laugh it off. This place will not get a second chance. These people are all about taking money, not the guest experience. read more

I've been going to Pete's for the better part of 20 years. First as a student and now as a professional. The food has always been good. Not fine dining, not greasy spoon...just good. The owner's son is working the kitchen and creating new specials regularly. They have also added a cocktail program. It is the only spot in our little down that is exercising creatively in their menu. Give them a try. Excellent services. Make sure to get a trip to the salad bar for the cold carrot salad. read more

Two friends and I tried Pete's out last night and while the Entrees were great the side dishes suffered. The prices were pretty good. We tried the Ribeye, Liver and Chicken. As I stated they were all very good, the wait staff and everyone that worked there were very friendly. Even the Kitchen staff told us to have a good night when we left, very friendly. I would have given them a higher ranking were it not for the sides. The salads were good but we had two mashed potatoes and a baked potato that were luke warm at best. Even with that though if I get back to Atchison I'll give it another go. read more

This restaurants food and service were good. There were about three tables full when we arrived. Three different parties of six arrived shortly after us. Our orders were taken promptly and served in a timely manner. I had lasagna and my husband had the chopped steak. My lasagna was very cheesy and was heavy on the meat sauce. My husband's steak was well seasoned and tasted like a steak, not a burger with lots of fillers. Both meals came with the salad bar. The salad bar raw side was only lettece and carrot sticks but it had 6-8 prepared salads like macaroni, pea and potato salads. It is next to the health dept so don't worry about cleanliness. Honestly the food was no frills home style cooking with your condiments still in their packaging. They serve beer but no liquor and seeing as I'm a whiskey drinker that was a bummer. Always enjoy eating at Pete's. It's owners, George and Rebecca, are very friendly and always there, working hard. They have a very nice salad bar, always fresh. I've never eaten anything here I haven't enjoyed immensely, but my family is obsessed first and foremost with their pizza. It's obviously hand thrown crust, made with care, baked in a real pizza oven...It's superb. We regularly visited Petes when we live in Atchison. By far the best food in Atchison. We loved the Prime Rib on Saturday nights and would also do their Sunday Buffet. Rebekah was always very welcoming and made us feel like family. Honestly, we never had a single thing here that we didn't love. Great with kids. Service is always wonderful. Wow! I had one of the best dine in experiences at Pete's Steak House...the staff were all very friendly and made me feel very at home.
