Our teacher was fantastic -- informative, patient, encouraging, and always so helpful. We learned essential cooking techniques, kitchen basics, and so many delicious recipes that I'll continue making at home. The class itself was equally special because we had such a great group of students and truly enjoyed learning and cooking together each week. I will genuinely miss this class and look forward to taking more classes at LA Cooking School in the future. I highly recommend it to anyone wanting to improve their cooking skills in a fun and welcoming environment!

Five days later and no contact from Pam. I was so excited to take my mister to their Father's Day class. We're empty nesters and this was meant to be a special treat for both of us. He's not big on cooking classes but the posted menu was appealing and I promised to do all the heavy lifting. Ribeye Steak -- thought we'd learn some new techniques to elevate our steak prep game. Mexican Street Corn Dip and Homemade Tater Tots -- summer corn is a family favorite and the thought of making homemade tater tots was intriguing. Smash Burger Sliders -- wanted to learn to consistently nail that crispy exterior. Inexplicably, we were paired with another pair -- a single dad with an 8 yo kid. Neither the mister nor I wanted this but we didn't want to make a scene or hurt anyone's feelings. We didn't even realize we were paired with them until the chef pointed out that our mise en place tray was setup for four. Why?? 1. The Mexican Street Corn Dip which I think was supposed to be an appetizer, was completely omitted. However, we did make a grilled corn salad as part of the meal. There was no appetizer served when we arrived. 2. Instead of homemade tater tots we made potato wedges. 3. The team we were paired with was lovely. However the class was well beyond their skill level. So instead of taking on the bulk of the work for 2 people, I did the bulk of the prep for 4 people. The course description says there may be seasonal substitutions but these substitutions utilized the same core ingredients. This was more work than I anticipated and left me feeling a bit overwhelmed and behind schedule. This threw the timing off and my mister enjoyed his steak alone while I was still standing at a hot stove prepping food for 4 people. Not the fun afternoon of "us" time I'd envisioned. Overall this was a subpar experience in so many areas that mattered to us. Left me personally disappointed and apologizing to my mister for the poor planning and execution. Could have spent the same amount of money without the hour+ drive and had a better experience.

This year our company contacted LA Food Works and did a team building event. LA Food Works…read morespecializes in group cooking classes and the entire event lasted about 3~4 hours. Rose is the event organizer and everyone met at her house at 10 AM. After a warm reception and a quick introduction, we quickly split into different teams and I was assigned to the Creamy White Bean and Fennel Casserole station. The staff was very helpful and I just simply followed staff's instructions. Everyone pretty much finished the cooking by 12 PM and we were able to enjoy fruits of our labor! *** Menu *** * Roasted Beef Tenderloin and Chicken Stuffed with Mixed Herb Pesto * Arugula Salad with Candied Pine Nuts and Parmesan Dressing * Roasted Broccoli with Pumpkin Seeds, Pecorino and Gremolata * Creamy White Bean and Fennel Casserole * Lemon Souffle Cake with Macerated Mixed Berries Personally I liked arugula salad the best and my least favorite dish was lemon souffle cake (too sweet). Rose even emailed a digital copy of the recipe to everyone the following week! Overall it was a great team building experience and we also did a murder mystery right after our lunch (different company - not related to LA Food Works).

Marc was a great instructor and did an amazing job at teaching techniques in addition toto the recipe and pivoted smoothly if things weren't exactly on track. I really enjoyed that you make a meal with other people then get the opportunity to sit down and eat the meal you prepared with them. It was a great bonding experience for me and my sister's who all have busy schedules. Although it was almost 2 hours from my home we will defintely be going back

My husband and I just took a private cooking class with a chef and made a four course French fare…read more First off, it was way too expensive for what it was. We merely went to someone's private house, cooked in her kitchen with her, and ate the meal. I was disappointed that it wasn't in a professional kitchen with other students. We were the only students tonight which was kind of nice, but also not so, because after we ate, we felt rushed to leave the house. The food we made was good though for the most part. The appetizer was okay, but not something I would make on my own as it consisted of baking a whole wheel of camembert cheese and topping it with apples sauteed in butter and sugar. It was good though, but not something we would make. Also, the dessert was not something we would make on our own either. We peeled two pears and soaked them in a whole bottle of red wine. My husband and I both felt that it was a waste of a bottle of wine as when you finish cooking it, you just throw away the rest of the wine. The main meal was chicken sauteed in butter and olive oil first then baked in a caste iron skillet. The chicken could have been cooked longer as it wasn't well cooked and kind of raw in my opinion. My husband who is a very picky eater actually liked it and said it was good, but I didn't think it was cooked well enough for my tastes. The leek sauce was nice and the ratatouille was okay, but I also felt the eggplant could have been cooked longer. Again, this was a very expensive experience for what it was. I think I paid about $270 for the both of us together, almost $300. I feel we could have just sat down at a really nice restaurant and ordered top of the notch steak and have had money left over. In any case, we've been wanting to take a cooking class together for a while, so we have that checked off our list. I just would not do this again with this company, with that chef, or recommend anyone else to waste their money doing it either.

It was an interesting event and I'm glad to be part of it - thx to groupon…read more Too bad it sprinkled thru out the day and it forced a lot of people to be inside the covered bungalow at the Ecole de Cuisine Pasadena (Housed in Chefs Center). I somehow expected this to be an indoor event, so staying "inside" was fine with me. We tried our first plate of couscous served with your choice of vegetable, chicken and/or beef (cheek?). Each item came with its own broth over the couscous. Vegetable was my favorite one. Besides from couscous, there were other items that Chef Farid Zadi and his team served that consisted of goat and rabbit meat. But the MUST have was the BRIK. It was the best thing I ate from this festival. It was OMG good~ I regretted not getting 2 the first time I ordered because by the time I wanted another one, the line was just too long. Each brik was prepared carefully in front of us (that's why it took a long time to order). It was prepared with a thin flour sheet called warka then the chef added shrimps (marinated with lemon/lime juice) + cilantro/parsley + harissa (a chili paste) + a whole egg (each cracked right in front of us). The chef then wrapped it loosely and then fried it... the end result = a crispy + fluffy layered of some darn good stuff called the BRIK.

Our experience exceeded our highest expectations. Our 2.5 year old was immediately treated with respect and kindness, and she jumped into the brand new environment with minimal disruption to her system. In 5 days, she was going to the potty (like the other kids) and eating foods she refuses to at home. We loved receiving updates every couple of hours with photos, showing us in real time how she was being cared for and stimulated - a huge comfort to us. Ms. Miranda's energy and passion for her work is truly reflected in the kiddos wellbeing and growth! If we lived in LA, our daughter would be there everyday. Thank you Bilingual Butterfly!

You can tell the staff care deeply about the kids and encourage them to explore and grow. As a first-time mom, they were incredibly supportive through every milestone. They helped my child transition from from crib to cot, from bottles to cups, and even to falling asleep on his own. He learned how to walk, talk, started potty training there... they've really been part of every milestone with us. They provide an option to pay for meals, and it's worth every penny. The home cooked meals for the kids are healthy, balanced, and way better than anything I could make :) I tried to think of a critique, and the only thing is I wish they had more locations because friends in other cities keep asking where we send our kid! Highly recommend!
