I wish there were an option to give less than one star. I left this establishment disgusted and deeply disappointed. It was immediately apparent that the staff at this location seemed far more concerned with making money than with the well-being of the animals or the families who come in looking for a pet. From what I was told by this attitude appears to start with the owner, Steve Gregory. I was shocked to learn that a deceased animal had allegedly been placed in an employee food refrigerator in what employees described as an attempt to conceal issues within the store. If true, that alone should alarm anyone considering doing business here. The employee turnover rate appears extremely high, and several people indicated it was due to concerns about an unsafe and unhealthy work environment. What concerned my family most, however, was what we discovered while considering purchasing a dog. After researching the dog's pedigree, we found evidence suggesting the dog was inbred. Further investigation led us to discover several other dogs with similar issues, as well as concerns about animals allegedly originating from puppy mill operations. The conditions of some of the animals in the back area were heartbreaking. Several dogs appeared to be sitting in their own waste, with feces visibly caked on them. It was incredibly upsetting to witness. We wanted to believe the negative stories we had heard about Petland were exaggerated, but what we saw firsthand only reinforced those concerns. Even the employee assisting us--Jenna, if I remember correctly--indicated that many of the concerns we had heard about the store and its management were accurate. My family ultimately walked away saddened for the animals and disappointed by the overall experience. I strongly encourage anyone considering purchasing a pet here to do extensive research beforehand. In my opinion, this is not a business that deserves your time, trust, or money. read more

The staff are super nice and helpful (Bubbles had an accident and Justin and Robin were very kind and understanding). Went in this week after coming from the nearby Golden Corral. My daughter and I always like to stop in and view the puppies. Well the store was so filthy, I was soooooooo shocked. We have NEVER seen if look like that. The smell was like walking into a bathroom that had stopped up toilets, the glass was all smeared with stains and finger prints. The entry carpet was covered in fur like the place had not been cleaned in decades. Omg! I can't believe the downfall of this location. Management must have recently changed. My husband and I were in the shopping center on a Sunday waiting for our to go food. Petland Puppies was the only store open, so we figured we would check out the pups and look at their dog toys for our little Schnauzer Coco. When we walked in, there was a sign in desk for people with reservations, I informed the young lady at the desk that we were only there to browse and we did not intend on purchasing a puppy. The amicable hostess told us it was totally fine to look around and to let her know if we wanted to play with any of the dogs. They had a small selection of toys and grooming items, nothing impressive. I'm a dog lover and knew if I held any of the pups I would want to take one home , so we just observed through the window. While we were observing, I noticed 1 dog in a cage with 3 others being attacked. Everyone said they were playing but they kept going for his neck, and he wasn't even defending himself... it broke my heart to not be able to help and put him in a different cage. We also saw a cute min Schnauzer with tons of energy in a cage with another breed who was either very tired or very sick. All the dogs looked like they could use a bath and none looked happy. Prices were not listed and I didn't bother to ask since pet store prices are historically high. If I was in the market for a puppy and wanted to know the lineage I would go to a breeder. It is not clear where these random dogs come from and even what they are mixed with. In my opinion, these dogs are not much different than the ones you would find at the Humane Society, other than the price. We came into Petland Kennesaw "blind," not knowing anything about it. I hadn't read any reviews (I didn't realize at least two of my friends had negative pet-buying experiences here) nor was I aware of the Humane Society of the United States' undercover operation at this store. I always leave the Atlanta Humane Society feeling happy and fuzzy, but I left Petland Kennesaw feeling a bit gross/grossed out. We were in the shopping center and I was attracted to this store because the storefront sign simply said "Petland Puppies" (not Petland Kennesaw). Who doesn't love puppies? There were lots of people inside; several families with small children. The puppies were cute. Some looked happy, some looked sad. Some were playing while others while some were sleeping. Several of the puppies looked "dirty" and/or sick with wet faces, mucus, and dried-up crud, mostly around their eyes and noses. I know some of that stuff is normal, but the amount here seemed excessive to me. The puppies at the Atlanta Humane Society have always looked cleaner, happier, and healthier to me based on my non-expert and perhaps biased opinion. Went to petland yesterday to look at puppies. We were excited to hold a chocolate mini hippo puppy. She was so sweet, but after a few minutes of holding here, I realized she had large aural hematoma in BOTH ears. I know this is very painful for the puppy. My travel time from home was an hour drive. I get there 4 minutes prior to the store opening. I have had the worst experience. I purchased the dog of our dreams here only to get home that night and find out he is sick. By day 13 I had spent $1500 on vet bills that their warranty claims they will refund me on. 22 days later after making a claim with them on the illness and amount of money I have spent they still have not refunded me my money and claim the check must have gotten "lost in the mail". This place needs to be shut down!! Every time I've been in it it is so gross and dirty. The cages are always full of feces and urine. The animals reek of it. Their fur is always wet and covered in it. I bought my cockapoo at PetLand 10 years ago. He was the most "expensive rescue" I've ever had. He was hours from death when I picked him up I immediately took him to the vet. He was so dehydrated that the vet said he would have died if I had waited even a few hours to bring him in. The second star is only because my dog was thankfully healthy and adjusted so well (we were told he had already been returned because the first family had a little boy who ended up being terribly allergic. We bought a puppy here about 4 1/2 years ago and have been back frequently since we live nearby and even though we spent over $3000 here we have experienced the worst customer service every time we visit! Just a few days ago we came in when it was completely empty because my 9 year old wanted to see if she could guess the breeds and my 4 year old loves animals. Unfortunately, the employees were so rude we cut our whole visit short. I love my dog so much I wasn't going to write a review solely on the fact that these puppies (and the up sells like the accessories and supplements and insurance) are horribly overpriced- we were willing to pay for a particular breed because we had a very unique lifestyle and small children so we decided the price was worth knowing the exact breed to be sure we could give our dog the space/exercise/training he needed to be safe and happy since we owned a condo in downtown Atlanta and for us, size/training (esp. potty training in a building with elevators) were big factors. When we visited this week with our kids and my husband asked one question about a puppy and got such attitude that we left saying once again we bought our dog because he was just perfect (and definitely not due to the experience we had here then...or ever). Actually, they tried to talk us out of buying him and buying a "better" smaller, younger, and not previously returned dog of the same breed which was also another thousand $ or more but we did not want a very small dog (and he grew to be the perfect medium sized 25lb dog who was happy in our condo but also not too small to be around our toddler who loves animals). It was almost like selling us a more expensive dog was more important than the wellbeing of the dog which really still bothers me. While we were checking out, we were pushed for financing but we just wanted to pay. We were pushed to spend so much money on all kinds of things and they threw in a free leash like it was a huge deal. I've worked in a kennel, vets office, and as a dog trainer. I never intended to use the Petland affiliated vet so I'm aware they're not liable, but this was such a ridiculous situation I had to mention it. Since we had a neuter certificate in hand, we noticed something out of nowhere and we took him to the vet terrified he had a tumor or something only to find out he needed to be neutered (again!?). I told my husband when we bought him that if anything was wrong health wise they would be the last place I'd want to bring him to for treatment but I never thought we'd run into something like this. Horrid place. PLEASE don't ever buy a pet from here. My friend and I found a guinea pig with a huge gash in his back that was bleeding and several other wounds. How they are placing their animals is terrible and they are aggressive toward each other because of how terrible their living conditions are. I don't blame them. The worker looked at him and took him back to "treat him" and grabbed the other guinea pig that was in the same cage roughly and squeezed him and was telling us how he's aggressive and that's why he's chattering his teeth. The guinea pig is behaving this way because of all the kids who come in and bounce him around and the stressful and poorly kept environment. The store and company are the problem. I also noticed NONE of the water bowls were clean enough to even drink from and when I asked if they could change them so they could drink they refused because "they'd get cleaned in an hour." They were doing nothing of importance at the moment so I don't see why they couldn't have done it then. The workers I was met with could not have cared less about working and were simply hanging out. There was one girl who didn't even work there who was hanging out with her friends, not in any sort of uniform, trying to tell us about the guinea pigs. The workers were frankly rude and unhelpful in every way. We asked if we could buy the guinea pig and they refused to let us no matter how much we offered. I went with my boyfriend to see a couple puppies to possibly adopt. The employee on the phone to make the reservation was very rude, and when we got there, we were barely greeted. We then went into the little station to hang out with our puppies. We noticed feces all over the cage and politely asked if there were any wipes or something just to clean the puppy's paws and were ignored by the same girl. Luckily one employee gave us some wipes and she was kind but she was the only good thing about this day . I looked at an adorable Cavalier. A breed that--thoroughbred, with great pedigree and from a reputable breeder, with 2-10 year health warranties and a going home care package, plus initial training and multiple vet checks and vaccines (all the things Petland claims makes them unique)--should be $3000 MAX... Petland wanted $6,150. And they don't even come close to some better offerings, services, and guarantees, like you can find at Georgia Dog Club. You wanna watch an animal die! I just got a dog a month ago and the puppy is dying! These people sell sick puppies to people with children with no care. My first visit I was told dog was in good health, consistently checked on by vets, and comes from good breeders. I was lied to from day one. I've been to multiple Petlands in GA and this one is the only one that's so pushy! I couldn't even enjoy trying to bond with and pick a puppy because the blonde hair girl kept trying to make a sale! But since you replied, I'd like to ask a few questions: 1) On the day of this incident I was told BY STORE EMPLOYEES that the customer who bought the dog over the phone had never been in your store. They called Friday and made an appointment to see the pup on Saturday morning, but never showed up. The same employees stated that YOUR store policy does not allow for over the phone sales. So how did this happen to us if profit was not a factor? 2) We were in the store for over 2 hours, primarily because our sales associate Nia kept us hostage! Every time we stood to leave she insisted on bringing a different puppy. She could smell our excitement once she brought us the Pomsky (6 puppies later), but each time we rejected the price she went back to the manager to attempt a better one. You should be proud, she definitely doesn't take NO for an answer. I totally understand why some reviews talk about high pressure tactics, because Nia did not let up. That being said, if you posted these insane prices online, we would have never made the trip to your store... but that's part of the game, right?! We were tired and getting hungry so YOUR TEAM agreed to let us go to lunch to think about the final offer while placing the dog "on rest." To our knowledge that meant the puppy was no longer for sale pending our final decision. Is this not what "on rest" means? 3) We'd only been gone for about 35 minutes when everything went to poop town! Nia was as shocked (or so it seemed) as we were that the puppy had been sold in the short time we ate. She assured us she had placed a card on the puppy's pen placing him "on rest". You say you are not concerned about profit *(chuckle)*, but even ethically, were we not the right choice? We'd been there all morning when the other family never bothered to show up. We asked the female manager on duty how it was possible to sell him over the phone when store policy does not allowed over the phone sales. She flat out told me the other family wanted to purchase the puppy at full price, which made it far less of a "tough decision" than your reply states. Even if this were all a miscue, it is still no less SCUMBAGGY since WE were the family in the store and YOU essentially told us he was on hold while we discussed the purchase at a café a few feet away. As far as your main concern being about your animals, I think your long list of negative reviews says otherwise. BESIDES ALL THIS, our prospective puppy was sick. He had a pink medical collar around his neck and we were told even if we had been allowed to purchase him, we would not have been able to take him home for several days until his "treatments" were complete. In the end, they called with an approval prior to your deposit, which is what makes that decision so tough. The puppy was being looked at by two wonderful families, and the first family had a set decision prior than yours. We're so sorry that this came off as "scum bag behavior." It's not our intention to take the highest bid in any way. It is our intention to get these puppies to the right family, and sometimes there may be a few at the same time. It is only after you and your family have fallen in love with the puppy and the puppy is licking your face do you find out the ridiculous price of the puppy.
