This place is an absolute joke!!! Our family had been in the market for a chocolate lab and have struggled to find any at all. With much regret we decided to call about this cute pup we found on their website. It seemed very weird that they wouldn't give a price so we thought the puppies would be quite expensive. Anyways, we decided to take the hour drive to check her out. The workers were near impossible to find and we waited for a decent amount of time. When we finally got to meet the pup she was awesome and the staff did seem nice. After we played with her for a bit we decided to ask about getting her and a staff member came over with an iPad slideshow with a bunch of bs about how they hand pick from the top 2% of breeders. Now the elephant in the room- the price. We would have been totally ok with spending 2k for the right dog but 6,000!!!! And it's not even AKC Registered. Totally a joke! The nice staff member from earlier then became very unprofessional when we decided that there is no way we should spend 6k when a good breeder would sell dogs for around 1-3k. She said (and just to quote a few) "I got my golden here so I'm not surprised", and "It's just value". Well thanks Petland I'm never going to step foot in your store EVER again. read more

This place sold us a yellow lab puppy. The first day 01/12/18 the puppy was doing fine. The next day the puppy started to get sick vomiting / diarrhea so we brought him to there vet. They gave us some medicine to give him for his stomach. The next day he was still vomiting so we brought him back to the vet and he was diagnosed with parvo. The vet said there's a good chance that the puppy will not make it. We brought him back to petland and they put him in a SMALL cage and said do you want us to call you if he makes it. She left thinking financing would be $50/ month but in actuality it is almost $800.00/month. They financed the dog using 2 separate companies at ridiculously high interest rates. I understand she should have known better but who sells a $ 1,500 dog for over $5,000 and who uses 2 separate companies to finance any single purchase, especially on a dog. Okay. So this is how this went. I went to petland largo this past Friday to look at some puppies for the kids. We did not intend on buying a dog at that moment but just wanted to go somewhere that had several different breeds. We wanted to find what best fit our family. Several issues. Puppy prices between 5000.00 and 15,000. Crazy right. Well the puppy we chose was a four month Bernedoodle. I asked how much was was in shock when she came back with a price of 5999.99; however, she was on sale for 4999.99. To me that is just crazy. We stood out ground and Negotiated the dog down to 1999.99 plus tax and there fees which totaled around 2700. We felt we had a great dog; however, this was just the beginning. We did not realize the crate training is almost impossible due to the dogs living in a crate it's whole life until rescued. While there, the dogs are pooping and pee in the cage, all over one another (several dogs in the cage) and then being fed in the same cage. The dog we had was amazing; however, we had to have the dog Examined by a licensed veterinarian. The dog had Raging diarrhea, in fact all the dogs there did. The vet came back and said the dog should have not been sold in the condition it was as it has worms and other health conditions which require medication. This may not sound like a lot but it is almost Impossible to Quarantine a dog for six weeks with little ones in the house. Plus we had to chase the dog around and spray Everything with bleach to kill the worms. Okay at this point we had two options. We could file a claim with a third party... that right a third party... oh but it gets better the third party will submit it to corporate for a answer. petland will only sell u the dog and will not handle any issues with the dog after you give them a small Fortune. So I began my claim process and it has been six days later and just received a response. I was asking for the fees 300.00 to be Reimbursed and for them to cover the vet bills of $200.00 plus allow me to return the food and toys (200.00) we purchased. I was not asking for money back for the dog nor would I give the dog back to that puppy mill. We Donated the dog to a nice couple out in ocala who was able to handle the Veterinarian requirements. We Forfeited 2000.00 just cause we could not bear to send her back to the horrible living conditions at petland largo, leaving my family heart broken. Please Do your diligence and do not buy from them. The total the are refunding is 49.00 out of a 2700+ 200 for vet expenses. I would never recommend this company to anyone and the Animals deserve better. This place needs to be Inspected and shut down! A few days before this post you will see my wife's post giving a 5 star Review. This was before petland largo left us heart broken and before we even left the store. That beautiful puppy deserved much better then the last three month It had to endure at this place!!!!!!!! Lastly. Wish I had looked as some of these reviews first. We picked out a pup on their website to go take a look at. I tried to do my due diligence by calling for additional information on pricing and whatnot. As others have stated, they do not give the price out before you arrive. I am sure they are hoping you and your family will immediately fall in love and feel pressured into buying the pup after you've played with it. Anyway, they simply said they could give $100 off. I'll be honest, I bought my last dog there almost 4 years ago and am really happy with the purchase but this time...after we played with the pup for a few minutes, the worker actually said with a straight face $4999. I told them that was WAY TOO HIGH. You really can go to a specialty breader and pick from the litter for less than that. They really try to make it seem as though you will get all kinds of extras like free vet checks every year(at their vet, which is nowhere near us). Ultimately, we walked away and my two kids were crying in the car on the way home. I just feel terrible. My last dog from here was nothing like this. She did say their was a new owner. When I came in i was greeted in a friendly way and offered help and left be for a little bit to see if anything drew me. I did not feel pressured and was given ample time inside one of the playrooms with several different dogs from a young person who was clearly well educated. And facts are facts because all of the information that I was left to consider, everything they told me about the dogs and the history of the dogs was easily proven true with some simple research. I've had my puppy for two weeks, today was the first day i took him to the included 6 week puppy training that we were promised. I had at 12:15 appointment with William Hartwell. Upon arriving there was no one to greet or guide us to where we were supposed to be. I flagged down an employee and asked where I should go and she kindly directed me to Mr Hartwell. When I introduced myself to him& explained I was here for my 12:15 appointment , he told me to "have a seat I'm finishing up with a client and I'll be with you shortly". "Shortly" seemed to be an understatement because I was sitting there for 45 mins as he continued his conversation with a girl about things other than training. When he finally directed his attention towards me he introduced himself and proceeded to go "what's wrong with your dog". There's nothing "wrong" with my dog, he's a 3 month old puppy and I'm a first time owner, we're here for some guidance. I let it go& proceeded to share my questions and concerns about my boy. I explained to him that for majority of the time our pup stays with me & my boyfriend at his place, but when my boyfriend is away for work on the weekends I take our pup with me to my parents house where I spend my weekends. When our pup is at home he does not potty outside very well, it's loud and he gets distracted so we have resulted to puppy pads at home to prevent accidents. When he is at my parents house with me, in a quieter neighborhood, it's not a problem. I was seeking guidance he however took this as an opportunity to judge me & share his opinions on my personal life. He started off with "I thought it was kinda common sense to know not to take your puppy to different places because you're confusing him". Sorry I didn't know but that's why I'm here and asking you? He also proceeded to share his input that my boyfriend was "probably some guy who lives with his parents & throws puppy pads down because he's too lazy to take your puppy out." & "I wish he was here right now so I can talk to him. But it looks like you're the one doing the training and doing everything." also sharing " I think it's nasty that he even uses puppy pads. I think it's gross how could you guys even be in that room." Extremely inappropriate behavior. We came to you for guidance , not to be judged. We're there trying to learn how to wean him off the puppy pads, maybe we shouldn't have resulted to that in the first place (the puppy pads were part of the welcome home kit PetLand gave us when we got our pup BTW) but that's why I'm here today, to correct the behavior. I didn't feel the need to explain to this moron the details of why I was there by myself but if you must know, In the email I attached to this post , rule number 2 states that it's only one human per puppy. In no way are we skipping out on taking out our puppy every few hours either because we are reliant on the pads, we are only resulting to them because we didn't want messes in the house and now are seeking guidance , not judgment. After a few more times of him asking "what else is wrong with your dog? Really think about it ". I just just in hopes he would too. Our whole experience was wrapped up within 10mins, when we were told it would be about an 1hr. He ended the conversation with him saying he offers private lessons outside of PetLand but "i don't know if you'll be able to afford it because it will cost you. I don't do anything for free." We paid 8k for our healthy pup at PetLand, along with him we were promised 6 weeks of training along with other services. Money is not a problem , your attitude is. I'm not skimping out on what I think is best for my dog. Why would I want to pay you separately to do the job I was promised you would do when I got my puppy? This negative and douchey individual is not someone PetLand should want in there stores and representing them. I wouldn't recommend anyone to go to this stores training anymore if Mr. Hartwell has anything to do with it. If this is the kind of service PetLand Largo has to offer when getting your pup, I would think twice about spending that kind of money here. I really wish I could select "zero" stars. This place is your worse nightmare. Combine a "used car" and a "time share salesman", and you get the "Petland"experience. First of all what does "we only use the top 2% of dog breeders in the country" mean? How do you quantify that statement? Secondly, the price of the dogs are extremely high for a "pet" store. The prices are in line with what private breeder's offer. However, with a private breeder you can see where the dog's are bred and the care they receive. Buying from "Petland", none of this is knowable. Thirdly, the hidden charges of top of an already pricey pet. Finally, the "upsell", these add-on's could almost double the cost of the pet you have choosen. Charging for items like changing the "owner's" information on the dog's ID chip. A person could do that online for free or your vet could easily to do it for you at wellness check after you purchase the dog. So my son goes on line and locates beautiful dogs on this company site. Then I start receiving calls and text messages that the company scheduled me time to come and visit the dogs. I bought her from Petland and her breeder is Mark Steffensmeier from Iowa. Both Petland and the breeder have been cited for puppy mill practices/purchasing sick puppies. Carla Steffensmeier, listed under certificate No. 42-A-1368 or customer No. 312517, and Mark Steffensmeier, listed under certificate No. 42-B-0225 or customer No. 17017. An inspection report filed for Mark Steffensmeier on Feb. 23, 2012 by USDA inspector 4041, John J Lies, listed two accounts of direct noncompliant item (NCI) violations against Steffensmeier. The first violation, direct NCI violation 2.40, was for neglecting animals in need of medical attention to proper veterinary care and the second violation, direct NCI violation 3.1, was for unsafe and unsanitary animal housing conditions. It's not their issue it's the issue with the finance company who last minute changed their mind and for $300 they can try another finance company. I could have easily paid the cash price for the puppy but not the point right now Remind we had already been approved and paid check out approval paper from their finance all that. Then she goes. OR since the finance is closed you can pay a deposit to hole him here and you come back tomorrow No we are not doing that because this makes no sense to which the manger can tell I am ticked. I walk in and immediately noticed all of the puppies in the back of the store. What I saw was truly heartbreaking. The puppies were crammed into boxes, not even well ventilated kennels, two at a time. Some of them didn't even have the capability to turn around comfortably. Conversations prior to arrival via phone and email only solidified the good vibes I was told about. Once I arrived at store there at least 6 staff members standing around or sitting in chairs, no one greeted me or asked if I needed assistance I had to interrupt their conversation to get waited on. It took 3 people to find said puppy she was brought out and placed on the floor she was covered in old feces and had yellow urine stains on her coat. The place smelled awful. We purchase a dog from the Largo FL store. After having the dog for 24 hours I started having asthma and allergic reaction and went back to the store for the 48 hour return policy. Our understanding is that we had 48 hours to return the dog and we would get a full refund minus a %50 of purchase price "administration fee". When we got their they told us, the manager of the store, that we would only get %50 of the dog cost back AND we owed a %50 administration fee. We asked them twice to confirm that this was correct and they confirmed it. There is no way I am not getting and money back AND paying a $1800 Admin fee. This store is not following the return policy for PetLand and I will be notify Corporate of this stores unethical handling of returns. read more

I will start by saying that it is a large store and has a wide selection of products. Many pet toys and accessories to choose from. That being said, Petland is known to get their pups from puppy mills. Most of the puppies mothers are bred repeatedly until death. These animals are cute and adorable of course, but the more that are bought, the more that are sold. If you don't know this about big businesses like Petland do your research before you hand over your money and take on an animal that was not created or sold with care and love. While we agree with all of the comments regarding pricing and the sales practice around less than full disclosure up front (they are definitely expensive), the quality of our dogs are outstanding. Additionally, our search from breeders and other stores found us unable to procure miniature schnauzers (we ended up with 2 sisters) that were really available and ready to be adopted, or we had to pay for them in advance, sight unseen. Often the breeders were arrogant or never returned our communication. The store was clean, and the staff very nice and helpful, willing to spend whatever time it took to answer our questions and make sure we were informed. We were there for four hours and had all the time we needed to meet and greet and to make our decisions. In short, they were knowledgable and listened. Rare traits today. Thanks especially to Christian. Yes, our pups were VERY expensive, and we are thrilled with them. If you have to ask how much gas costs for a Lamborghini, you probably should not buy one. this place is so sad, the dogs are in horrible environments, the cages are as big as a guinea pig cage. i bought a hamster from here, she was so beautiful and i gave her a very good enclosure and she died from unknown reasons less then a week after i got her. one of my family friends bought a labordoodle and it died a month later from a sickness that they weren't aware of, please don't by any animal from these type of places, instead adopt or find a breeder that cares about the animals health. read more
