I've been to PetPort a number of times and have had the same experience every time. The employees are friendly and personable. They are open late and in my case they carry a very popular brand of cat toy. The "yeow" brand of catnip cat toys are some of the best catnip toys on the market. They are hard to find at chain pet stores like PetSmart and petco, but PetPort always has them. Shopping was quick and easy. Give them a visit you will not be disappointed. read more

The best pet store and groomer on LI! I take my service dog here (toy poodle named Sydney for PTSD) and every time they do an amazing job. Holly, the owner, is absolutely wonderful. Kristi (I hope I'm spelling her name right) is such an amazing and attentive groomer. Holly and Kristi go above and beyond for us. I need Sydney back to me ASAP, because I'm never away from her. They block off some time for us when we come in so they can get Sydney back to me quickly. Sydney adores Kristi and vice versa. They truly are such a wonderful store with talented groomers. My rat terrier, KT Bopp, needed a new harness while we were in port, so I thought I'd check out PetPort. I immediately found the Puppia harnesses (two styles!) and decided to come back with KT Bopp the next day. The shop assistant was very helpful and friendly. Being on a boat I wanted it to be highly visible for safety reasons so I chose a pastel pink. I highly recommend this shop. I know the employee really cares about animal welfare because I overheard a conversation he was having with a friend or coworker the first time I visited. read more

Took my dog for a specific grooming today. Without asking they gave him a bath. When inquiring about the price being so high, the owner gave me an attitude and was reluctant to do anything about the price. She made it seem like the miscommunication was on my end when I called the day before & made it very clear to the groomer in person my request. Finally she gave me $20 off for the service I didn't ask for. I'm a very loyal customer who shops in PetPort weekly for my dog and cat. From food to accessories. I'm very disappointed with the customer service I received today and will be looking for a new pet store to take my business. In reply ... This is now the second time you have reached out to me to tell me that I was wrong. Customer service 101 ... that is the exact opposite of what you are supposed to do. Your voicemail to me was aggressive and that was the reason I did not take down the review as you requested. Who are you to tell me what my dog needs? I tell you. I asked for the hair to be trimmed by his eyes , his teeth to be brushed and his nails to be clipped. Never once did I ask for him to be bathed or a full face hair cut. And if you could not do what I asked, I wouldn't have brought him in. That simple. I called the day before and spoke to one of your employees about the exact services that I wanted and he had to hang up and call you to make sure it was okay. He then Called me back and told me that you could do it and to bring him in the next day. And on top of that I confirmed it with your groomer day of. So the miscommunication is with you and your staff not on my end because I did my part by calling the day before to confirm you could do the basic service I requested. And then you took it upon yourself to disregard what I asked for and groom him however you like. My dog now has an eye infection he is being treated for. Both my vet and myself highly suspect it being from his grooming experience at pet port. Please do not contact me to take down this review because I will not. read more

Our favorite pet store ever!!! Holly is such an incredible person, so friendly and knowledgable and always a pleasure to see. We seek her out every time we are here and she's always willing to help and answer any questions we have. They have a great selection of high quality foods and treats that you can tell they have done their research on. You will not find anything here that is not of the highest quality. All of the staff is great and we always stop in to get our puppy some sort of food, treat, or chew toy. It's no Pet Smart but I found what I was looking for and for about the same price. Service is something you will get here; friendly and very helpful. My friends and I found a stray cat and decided to take her in. We needed supplies and this store was the closest one, so we stopped in. Mike (I believe his name was) was extremely helpful with picking out our supplies. He was very nice. The store itself was wonderful, very neat layout and great products to choose from. We paid for a VERY expensive pet carrier that we didn't end up using, so we decided to take it back for a refund. He offered us store credit, and then took his offer back, saying "I cant take it." I thought it was a little unfair to take that offer back after telling us we could collect store credit. If that was policy, I understand; However, we shouldn't have been told we were receiving store credit if that was the case. The store was great, however, the customer service could use some improvement. As someone who has worked in customer service for almost four years, I would've apologized for not being able take the return - which he didn't. Otherwise, great store! read more

I'm not a pet person, but I do have tons of friends & family who are. I love going to PetPort for gifts & treats to bring to them when I visit - I don't think there is a pet owner in the world who isn't over-over-the-moon when given a gift for their baby. PetPort has a fabulous selection of fun pet clothes, play toys & colorful leashes to choose from; I especially love the pet life jackets since we are a boating town! PetPort also has a huge array of nutritious food items & pet treats to choose from, including snacks that almost look good enough to be people food! Being a non-pet owner & definitely needing help, I love it that Holly & her staff are always so helpful & friendly. Holly's extensive knowledge of animals & their their health is amazing; it's so obvious that this is her passion & that she has truly found her calling. They are extremely rude and lied about the return policy. Was verbally abused by man and women who worked there when I was simply trying to return a dog carrier I never used and bought a week prior. I was told I can do an even exchange and then was told by a women that I could not. read more

This store has many fine qualities - it is attractively laid-out, well-stocked with high-end products, and provides grooming services as well as goods. The staff are nice, knowledgeable and pleasant to work with. It is geared toward dogs more than cats. The owner, on the other hand, is condescending and violently rude. She condescended to me about my choice of product in her store and even talked down her own stock. After I gave the shop a one-star rating on Facebook, she had it taken down. I posted another, shorter one-star review, and the next night SHE CALLED ME AT MY HOME ON MY UNLISTED, OUT-OF-STATE NUMBER. I DO NOT KNOW HOW SHE FOUND IT. She proceeded to argue, then talk over me, and finally just scream at me. She called my review "slander," threatened me with legal action if I posted anything further on Facebook, shouted that I should never set foot in her store again and slammed down the phone. There are similar reviews on PetPort's Facebook page, one showing a reviewer's response to an apparently removed post made by the owner. Again, the owner threatened to "send it to her legal team" because the review was negative. This is how it works at PetPort. If the owner had called me, honestly asked why I was offended, and apologized for her tone and whatever misunderstanding might have arisen therefrom, I would have accepted it gladly, taken down my review and that would have been that. But, as you can see on S.M.'s review, that's not this woman's style. She doesn't value her customers. I expect a similar attack here as soon as she sees this review. read more

Well, we've been taking our dog Leo for years for grooming which worked out beautifully. Today I called and was told they no longer offer this service. Why? Just decided not to. This is really a big drag and I guess the money wasn't enough although it wasn't inexpensive. Very sorry to lose this. Cute shop with lots of pet supplies. I buy my cats Blue Buffalo food here (they're so spoiled) because it is actually cheaper than the chain stores. They have lots of natural food and treat options. Primarily cater to dogs and cats (dogs more so then cats) with very little for small pets or exotics. read more

As a small business owner I am horrified by the owner of this shop! She harassed me on why I have a prong collar on my puppy and would not let it go 1. It's none her business 2. I'm a customer in her shop spending tons of money on over priced items 3. She's a store owner not a professional dog trainer, mind you I was in the middle of purchasing an item and that didn't stop her. went in with my GSD puppy, shopped around and spoke with really nice girl who worked in shop. she was friendly with my puppy. Went to counter to pay and store owner took my money. She then proceeded to pontificate on being a pet lover all her life, (I have rescued 6 cats and dogs, so I believe I fall into that category), and stopped just short of calling me an animal abuser for the collar (not choke or shock or anything out of the ordinary) my dog was wearing. The collar was recommended by the trainer at Suffolk Obedience Training, clearly an expert and professional, as well as my private trainer. I explained this and the fact that I had also researched and discussed options with my vet for training a large breed dog. I adore this pup and spoil her rotten, so her insinuation was rude and not based on fact. Add that to the fact that the toy I paid about $20 for fell apart in a day and I won't be back. read more

My only problem with PetPort is that I could feasibly spend ALL of my money there if I didn't have such superhuman self control :) I walk my dog daily in Npt park, and it is beyond tempting to stop in for a new toy or treat on a regular basis... but I try to limit myself to just once a week ;) The owner and staff are all incredibly friendly and helpful, and my bully loves the complementary water and "cookies." Large active dogs should be groomed elsewhere. Not a good environment if your dog is sensitive and scares easily.

I go to Pet Port about 2 times a week. Once for my food and toy needs and the other to just say hi to Holly. I am a Dog walker in the area and have found that her prices are as good as the other bigger stores and I can find the best in Dog and Cat food. She carries all the top brands like Blue Buffalo, and Halo, and Wellness, just to name a few. She allows you to bring in your new puppy or dog too! If you find yourself visiting Northport, NY for the day and you have your little friend with you, stop by for a fresh drink of water and a biscuit. read more

Petport is a great shop and I LOVE to support local businesses. We have 2 dogs and 2 cats and I get all of my pet food, accessories etc. here. Whether I am having health issues with one of my pets, or flea problems, the staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. I also have my Multi-Poo groomed here. Brought my rescue dog in for a bath and to have his nails cut for the first time yesterday at PetPort. He is very scared of the groomers so I unfortunately don't take him as often as I would like to. PetPort came highly recommended from a friend so I thought I would try it. As I expected Myles got very nervous once he realized that we weren't just there to stroll through the town. Holly was amazing from the second we walked in. She could sense that Myles was nervous and rather than drag him to the back and send me on my way she took the time to make him comfortable with her. Because it was a busy Saturday and she didn't want him to be any more stressed than he was sitting in the back waiting his turn she went completely above and beyond and groomed him herself. I cannot say enough about the treatment we received there and would highly recommend this place to anyone that loves their pets. read more

The shop is ostensibly adorable from the outside. However, pet lovers beware. The shop owner is irritable and unreasonable. I walked in with my small cavapoo to look around. I showed my dog a chew toy to see if she would take an interest because she's very particular. Well because my dog smelled the toy and there after walked away, the shop owner began yelling at me and my dog that the dog touched the toy and now I must purchase it. She was so irate and irrational; I was so confused and upset with her intense reaction. I go into dog stores all time and I have never experienced such a lunatic. Perhaps her blood sugar was down or her lithium levels low, but the interaction with her was nothing short of insane! What an awful experience. So unlike dog store owners. Stay a way! I purchased the toy just to appease her because I was in complete shock and a bit overwhelmed from the interaction and wanted to calm her down. My dog is not the least bit interested in her over priced junk! read more
