Unfortunately, they put way too much pepperoni on it. They put so much it was more like eating a pepperoni sandwich (if such a thing exists) than a pizza. The cheese was very low quality mozzarella. I came here because I had a hankering for the type of pizza I had as a child, where the crust had some nice chew to it. I'm suffering from Pizza Hut and Papa John fatigue, because I grow increasingly intolerant for their style of pizza and its ilk. Petrilli's definitely did not disappoint. Glad we came here to satisfy our pasta craving this past Sunday. Their family-size spaghetti and meatballs was not at all what I expected. I expected a sad-looking mound of under-sauced noodles with 1 or 2 greasy-looking, tough meatballs, with a side of flattened-out garlic salt garlic bread. Nope. We got a tin of deliciously-sauced spaghetti with 8 tender meatballs, and garlic bread dusted with sesame and poppy seeds that resembled a cake more so than garlic bread. Everything was delicious. We ordered Petrilli's for the first time today based on the reviews it had. I have been craving mozzarella sticks for some time and was excited to see them on the menu. We orders a small pepperoni pizza and Mozzarella sticks. First thing I grab when we get home is the mozzarella sticks and take a big bite only to be disappointed with a flavorless unmelted chunk of cheese. Overall, I thought this place is quite good. Definitely worth a return visit!! I ordered two (2) small pizzas for 4 people. One thick crust, one thin crust (different toppings on each to suit variance in tastes. COMMENTS: 1. The toppings are very fresh and PLENTIFUL!! No "scrimping" here!! 2. The tomato sauce is a little on the spicy side, but excellent. 3. The sausage is WONDERFUL!! 4. The cheese is high quality / more cheese would have been appreciated as a standard item 5. The thin crust was a little "tough" or chewy. It very well could have been that ball of dough. 6. The thick crust was PERFECT in my eyes/taste. I do prefer thick over thin, but it was great! The location is a little tricky to find...tucked in a strip mall at the NE corner of the complex. The furnishings are sparse, but this place is primarily "to go" as opposed to "eat in" so no real worries here. The staff is very friendly and efficient. It is obvious that they know their pizza. Disastrous. I am not sure where the 4.5 star rating came from. But it needs to be evened out somehow. Our first surprise was the dining area. Or lack of it. This is obviously a to-go kind of place. There are two 4-tops, zero ambiance, with the exception of a tv mounted on the wall with a sport event playing. But this is not the reason I rated Petrilli's so low. This is an FYI only. The glowing reports about the deliciousness is an overhype. Yes, they are quite generous with their toppings. This is true. We did a half pineapple and ham, half Italian sausage. The toppings were just ok, and frankly I am not a big fan of hot Italian sausage, which it definitely was. Had I known this, I definitely would not have tried to feed it to my little two year old companion who refused to eat it, period. The pineapple was canned, the thinly sliced ham was ok but not as copius as the other toppings. The pizza sauce was lightly spread and was average tasting, the cheese was average to good but some cheesy parts were tough from being overdone and really not all that different in quantity than other places. The biggest fail for me was the crust. When we ordered, I saw balls of yeast dough on trays waiting in the wings to be used. This is good, I thought. But the actual finished product was not only *not* crusty, but tough as shoe leather, no yeasty rise at all. None of us could palate this so it was left blatantly on our plates for the pizza maker to see. On the up side? Less carbs. Can't say I loved the garlic cheese bread either. Poppy seeds on it? Strange, and not necessarily a taste that I liked. Nor was it buttery either, some other product was used and I found it tasteless. And the flavor of real garlic was awol as well. It came with a small container of pizza sauce for dipping, which seemed slightly bitter when juxtaposed with the poppy seeds. Some of my family thought this pizza was a bit too greasy but I thought it was perfect. We also got a few sides of pepperchini's and they were some of the freshest, most flavorful I've had. In my opinion, the prices here are great. Our HUGE, 24 slice pizza, a few sides of pepperchini's and a few sides of ranch dressing set us back almost $30 bucks. Since we split that 4 ways it only set each person back about $7 bucks. Not bad for an amazing dinner. It only took them 20 minutes to make our pizza which I thought was really fast. Got the medium with italian sausages, green peppers, and mushrooms. For the appetizer, we tried the buffalo chicken wings. Sweet deal! Right before we left, they show you how the pizza comes out... OH-EM-GEE! The sausages were HUGE! (Check out my photos) They seriously pack your pizza with fresh toppings. It looked, smelled, and tasted delicious!! The cheese and crust was perfect too! THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT PIZZA SHOULD TASTE LIKE. I am a pizza snob and it's very hard for me to find the perfect pizza, especially near me in the South Bay. I will travel for good pie; I just hate to do it. I'm proud (and sorry) to say that Petrilli's has overthrown Pizza Port (San Diego peeps) as my current absolute favorite pizza place on the planet. Admittedly, part of my love for Pizza Port is their housemade beer but I really do find the pizza to be excellent. I don't care if you're a NY pizza lover, a Chicago pizza lover, an Italian-style thin crust pizza lover or a fancy flax, hempseed and chia flatbread pizza lover. This is EXACTLY what pizza should taste like. Nice, tasty, doughy, well, dough....good thickness, good chew with a perfectly crispy, crunchy bottom (no clue how they get this combo perfectly). Great, fresh ingredients; the sausage was particularly delicious. For 6 adults and 4 kids, we ordered two medium pizzas (a Petrilli's Specialty with Italian sausage, mushrooms, pepperoni, salami, onions, green peppers for us and a 1/2 & 1/2 cheese/pepperoni for the kiddos) and an order of Buffalo Chicken Wings. The tab came to about $50 or so which seemed steep to me for a couple of pies. At first. It's not 8am the next day and I still want this pizza and I'm kicking myself for abandoning the leftovers with the inlaws in Ontario. With a pie this good and so many to feed, it's surprising we had leftovers at all so make sure to order conservatively (which helps with the price, of course). And speaking of the price, yeah, it's more than Domino's, Little Caesar's and the like but for good reason. It is so, so, so VERY much better. And I do resort to Domino's occasionally (if I must) and find it the best of the big chains and actually tolerable. The wings were decent...not the crispy wings I crave all the time these days but they had a good, unique buffalo flavor with a decent bite. Everyone agreed that this pizza was absolutely fantastic and I literally can't wait to go back to [visit the inlaws] Petrilli's and try some of their other offerings. I just wish they were closer! And delivery might be nice but I drove 61 miles to get out there from home so what's another mile, especially if it gets me away from the inlaws for a few minutes! Despite reading a review about someone finding a cockroach in their pizza, I thought I'd give Petrilli's the benefit of the doubt and try their pizzas anyway. Upon arrival, this place doesn't have anywhere to sit. It's take-out only. Not a problem, since I live pretty close. They only have one specialty pizza (apart from their Bianca Pizza.. which is a tomato-sauce-less pizza) which has pepperoni, salami, onions, mushrooms, bell pepper, and sausage. The lady at the counter takes our order (a small specialty pizza) and waited. I noticed that they have a large shoji screen (one of those japanese folding room dividers) right behind the counter, so you can't even see the kitchen. A little unsettling.. My boyfriend and I joked amongst ourselves, wondering if we should ask the place to be careful not to include any rodents but instead, we just hoped for the best. The pizza was done pretty fast and I was happily anticipating eating this DELICIOUS pizza. We get home, open the box and give it a quick once over to make sure that everything on the pizza is what belongs on a pizza. Aaaand we dive in. Yummy! It's SO good! It's very fresh, toppings are overflowing! Their sausage is no ordinary sausage. It's very flavorful with spices and fennel seeds! The pizza isn't greasy.. sure it has some oils from the cheese, but it's not the usual greasy pizza. Happily munching away at slice number two... when my boyfriend screams in disgust. A hair. A hair wrapped around in cheesy tomato and crust. I honestly understand how hard it is to open up your own business. I understand that we all have hair and sometimes they fall in unfortunate locations. It's happened to everyone, I'm sure. I understand that this place really does indeed have delicious pizzas. Therefore, I am not giving this place a "slap in the face" one star. Let me defend my two star rating. The service wasn't bad, they did what they do best. This family owned business can hardly afford to print professional photos of their pizzas for their menu, yet they pile on expensive, fresh ingredients for their patrons. Because it was never worth buying. Most pizza joints have this item as a cheap way to make a few extra bucks. Not Petrilli's. This is amazing here! If you have never tried it, you should on your next visit. Crispy, crunchy, buttery, cheesy, garlic goodness toasted to perfection. I love how they toast it to near burnt, but that's what you want! So amazing good! It so crispy and crunchy, you can't stop eating it! The bread is light and soft, but still has that thick, chewy texture like their amazing pizza crust. Don't pass this one up because Garlic Cheese Bread is now worth buying! Take-out mostly, but there is seating for in dinning. Handicap parking right out front, too. They make more than just pizza, but the pizza is so good, it's hard to come here for anything else. Located in the North-East corner of 8th Street and Mountain Avenue a few doors down where Togo's used to be. Just a great pizza pie! It costs more than other places in town, but is still a bargain. By far one of the best pizza's I have had in SoCal. I have gone twice with 2 other friends, both times ordering the "Petrilli's Special". It includes VERY generous portions of meat (sausage, pepperoni, salami), mushrooms, peppers, and onions. A small ($14.40) was enough to feed more than 3 people... it is very dense pizza, you can tell just by how heavy the box is... We were in the area after our recent vacation and decided to look up some local pizza favorites. Yes, we were suckered in by the 4.5 star ratings and the pictures did look good. We ordered 2 small pizzas (small=8 slices) and went home-the pizzas sat on my lap the entire drive, but I did not get any appealing aromas that would usually make my mouth water when in the presence of good pizza. The pizzas were a bit of a disappointment. Sure, the toppings were piled on high, but there needs to be a balance of good red sauce, garlic, and cheese as well especially if the crust is going to be so dense and hard. Piles of toppings are of no use to us if there is nothing tying it all together. And for the amount we paid, yes we expected gourmet quality. The service was matter-of-fact, I saw that they had large and extra large pizzas and just made small talk and asked if they did catering since it was my first time there. The guy shook his head and told me just to order a bunch of large pizzas and pick it up. Not sure if we will be back because the pizza was underwhelming, but it could have been a bad day as well so we will always leave room for the benefit of a doubt.
