We took in our senior cat because he was having something wrong with his stomach and he was diagnosed with hypothyroidism, which he started treatment for. A year goes by and he's only gotten worse with tons of vet visits with her and bloodwork but apparently they could never find an issue. Last night we had to rush my cat to the emergency vet because he couldn't move to find out he had a tumor in his abdomen which had caused internal bleeding and swelling. He also had virtually no bone marrow, red blood cells, or white blood cells and was basically at deaths door. The emergency vet said he had been in pain for probably more than a YEAR and not once did Dr. Gail Newcomb do anything to actually find the issue or do any screening or anything!! She's also very condescending and told my stepfather at a vet appointment that if you have to take your animal to the vet you're not a good owner. Again, DO NOT GO TO HER IF YOU CAN HELP IT!

However, when the time came that I had two very sick pets, I had a horrible experience with the care, diagnosis and customer service at this office. I will never recommend somebody go there again. I took my dog, Sherman, in Monday morning, as I knew something was seriously wrong. Sadly, they misdiagnosed him and sent Sherman home with Pepcid; but offered to keep him for observation. Given that they had just evaluated Sherman, I didn't feel it was in his best interest because he would not be able to get decent rest while they "observe" him in between appointments. They already knew he had been vomiting and not eating. Two days later, Wednesday, nothing had changed, and Sherman was considerably more ill and with a fever. I brought him in, they took his temperature, did a blood draw and offered to keep him to "observe" again. They had no explanation of what they would do differently other than wait for the blood panel to come back. I knew lying in a cage at the vet office would only cause him additional anxiety when he was already very sick. By Thursday, my other dog, Maisie, started falling ill. The Clayton vet could not fit me in until Friday later in the morning. I called earlier that Friday and spoke with a technician, to try and understand what they were going to do differently. Suddenly, Dr Anne Clayton came on the phone and started berating me. After remaining silent while she went on a rant for 2 1/2 minutes, she ended the call by telling me to go to another vet. There I was on a Friday morning, now with two very sick dogs, looking for a new vet. Thank God for All Star Veterinary in Westfield! Absolutely amazing! They fit us in immediately, repeated the appropriate bloodwork and started my dogs on the antibiotics they needed. It was dicey over over the weekend as I had to hydrate both dogs with a syringe until the antibiotics kicked in. My first dog had a much longer road of recovery given that he had gone so long before receiving proper care and medicine. After the weekend, I texted Clayton Vet to see if they would bare any responsibility for what had taken place. I understand that sometimes we have bad days or mistakes happen. Instead, he responded defensively, stating he listened to the recordings and that he was inactivating my account. I understand his desire to back the other veterinarians at that office. But he could've responded simply with, "We had a lot going on at the time. Sorry if things slipped... how are the dogs doing now?" After years of a business relationship, and sending them many new clients, it is disappointing to say the least. My dogs almost died as a result. Dr. Clayton told me that he had a recording of the call - I strongly encourage him to post that recording for others to decide for themselves. What's a shows an additional testament to their ignorance and customer service is how they continue to advertise on their Yelp page. They're actually using a picture of MY dogs, standing in MY front door to promote their business. See below.

Have taken my dog here since I adopted him in 2020. His very first visit for a checkup and vaccines was fine. But soon I had to take him about every 6 months to get his nails trimmed because he absolutely hated having his paws touched. They prescribed him trazadone which they realized wasn't enough. They added other medications and despite my saying none of it was helping they persisted till I said he probably needs to be fully sedated. After about 1.5-2 years of this crap I was finally able to trim his nails enough on my own so I wouldn't have to take him to the vet which he was now completely fearful of. 2 years ago I scheduled just an annual checkup, I hadn't had his nails cut there for about a year. They started telling me about his medication protocol. I told them he didn't need medications or sedation, that was for the nail cuts. After a bit I finally got them to drop it and I went to the appointment. My dog was scared and yes a bit reactive (as in turning to see what was happening) when they gave him shots, no snapping or biting not even any contact of his mouth to any part of the vet/tech. They had me muzzle him then wrap his head in a towel. Great, that's not gonna frighten an already scared dog. Afterwards I told them he'd do better without any of that. Last year I scheduled another annual. Same bs about medication protocol. I said no. The vet came into the room already scared of my dog who they'd never seen before. Throughout the physical exam they were afraid (jumpy and quick to run/ backoff at any movement) despite my dog not growling, snarling, biting, snapping, or making any aggressive movements. I let them know he's sensitive about his paws and being grabbed under his pits. No incident for the physical exam, he didn't react at all as they stuck an otoscope in his ear. The first vaccine was administered orally. The vet was obviously fearful and asked if I wanted to do it. I opened his mouth and they squirted it in his mouth. Again no reaction besides the usual yuck reaction dogs do. Since I know they're fearing my dog is going to maul them I held his head while they give the first shot near his pit. He reacted as any dog (or human) not expecting being poked would by turning to see what's happening. They immediately run out the door to get help restraining him. The rest of the shots go in his back half. He's doing a low growl but I'm holding his head, he's not even moving at this point as they give the shots and take blood. I get that a scared dog is just as dangerous as an aggressive one but if a vet can't tell the difference between a normal "I'm scared" and a "I'm scared and I'm going to bite you" wth! My dog has never snapped at anyone, I honestly wonder what they have in his record or if the vets are so inexperienced with dogs that they can't read behaviors. I don't think I've ever had the same vet twice here, seems like they just do their time and move on. The last straw was at the end of the exam the vet suggesting my dog is reactive and should be sedated for future visits cause he'll escalate. He's actually gotten better about visits, less jumpy and less reactive. They never listen to me and repeatedly do things to make him more fearful.

Despite these symptoms Herrmann would not see our cat for two weeks. When we reiterated that our cat was in distress Herrmann told us to try a different veterinarian. The other veterinarian saw our cat the following morning even though we were new patients. Our cat died that day. The outcome likely would have been the same but it was unacceptable that Herrmann would not fit their patient in for appropriate care. When we really needed them, they sent us elsewhere. Highly recommend All Star (suggested by Herrmann) however; we have moved our other 4 pets there!

I had to demand antibiotics and refuse to put him down, and she even demanded I scheduled an appointment to euthanize because "the antibiotics aren't going to work" I did not and 6 months later our boy is doing Amazing with his cage mates and my normal Exotic vet was appalled by her behavior and treatment options I was given. I chalked it up to she doesn't really know exotics and should stick to cats and dogs. except I brought my dog in for a rather large lump on his side. (He is a patient of dr smith and has bad back leg issues, you'll see why this is important in a minute) they had me drop him off to be looked at since they were really full that day; and unfortunately dr smith wasn't the vet that saw him. She called me and said nothing is wrong with his legs I said great I didn't bring him in for his legs it's the lump on his side, she got very upset and wanted to know why I didnt tell them that... well I did that's why I even brought him in? And then got huffy and said well I'll have to examine him again and call you back. 15 minutes later she calls and says well yea there is a lump there, what do you want me to do about it? Uhm??? Blood work? X-rays? I don't really know what should we do for this. "Well it's all gonna be expensive so I don't know what to do here...." I want you to treat my dog. You know what I'll just be there to get him. she Did end up running blood work but that was ALL. she tried to have me bring him back in but I'm pretty well done and we are schedule for a second opinion with care animal hospital. Thankfully they did prescribe some pain meds so he's at least been comfortable until I can figure him out. While explaining all this to my grandma she informed me she no longer uses this vet because this lady also refused to treat her cat. He had a wound that wouldn't quit bleeding and she just told her she couldn't help and he would die. That was 2 years ago and care prescribed him meds and took care of him and he is fine now. this Hitchcock woman is not out for your animals best interest, she just wants to euthanize, not treat, and take your money when she can. If you go to this location you should ONLY see dr smith, this woman in my opinion should not even be practicing with animals.
