Nobody likes losing a best friend, or a family member. It's hard. I lost my best friend. JAK BLAK over 5 years ago. This was after he had been in a fight and had been bitten by something that left a couple of deep puncture wounds on his thigh. He was delirious and I rushed him to evans to the pet emergency. The staff was nice, and got him in right away. They said the wound was severely infected and he needed medications for this as well as painkillers to calm him down. They were able to provide me with those on the spot. I felt so relieved as I took him back home covered with his blanket in a basket. He looked out of it, but definitely more relaxed and sleepy.
From there it was a horrible game of thinking he was slowly getting better, but not convinced. What happened was a very cruel and slow death for him, and me thinking g because he was moving around and drinking some water he was going to pull through. He was delirious from infection, and so dehydrated. He was moving in order to try to find a place that was quiet and dark so he could die in peace. It had been 4 or 5 days and I had been making sure to give him his meds just painkillers it turns out. I rushed him back in to them but I watched him die in the parking lot before I could get him inside. It was horrible, and not peaceful at all. I carried him in to see if they could take care of the cremation arrangements and his box for the ashes. I was in bad shape and losing it in a bad way. I let him down and he was always there for me. The staff was OK. Same girl that originally admitted him and spoke so nicely to him. Told him how handsome he was and how tough he was. Yeah that girl. Only she just acted very uncomfortable this time with a 250# grown man with a beard and a ponytail holding a very dead black cat and sobbing uncontrollably with snot running out of my nose. She needed to know if the deceased cat was male or female, and had they ever treated him before. I just felt absolutely sick realizing I was the only one there that night that cared about my buddy at all and that was my fault not hers. I'm sure she sees many pets and people and has a very busy life outside the office. Just kind of hit me that she didn't really seem like any other VET I had seen before. Maybe because she wasn't a vet. Just someone paid to answer the phones help with the diagnosis of your pet by giving an accurate description of your animal and their condition so at sometime a VET could hear the message, or view the chart and make a call if there was time and not a busy night. The words "take him to see his VET tomorrow and give him his meds as prescribed". !!???!! That means you still need to take your animal to a real vet because chances that your companion was inspected, diagnosed, or treated by an actual vet are pretty slim in my opinion.
All I'm saying is if you want to throw away your money you could have used when you had to take your pet to a veterinarian that can help them, then pet emergency is your place. Unfortunately from what I see in reviews and hear from people I've talked to your best bet when it comes to someone you love more than most people you've ever met
... take them to a real veterinary clinic where the news might not be good and won't be cheap, but you will get the truth and some options and usually some genuine compassion from people that truly care.
I'm just saying... I would not recommend this place for most emergencies other than a minor cold, or a couple stitches. read more
