Staffing- Unbelievable the Dr. was so out there. very young unprofessional and admitted she knew nothing about eye care. She looked some things up. OMG I was horrified. She said with a big smile on her face dis they tell you what happened. Clear fluid poured out of my dog while she was examine him. she didn't know where it came from. then she wrote in the notes it projectiles from his eye . But she looked at his eye it was deflated then reinflated. He can see and seems fine now. Crazy horror story. Went to specialist and the eye is fine. read more

We brought our Belgian Malinois because he had a deep gash under his eye. We arrived and were immediately greeted at the door. They took our dog back, and we had the privilege of meeting with Dr. Valentine. She was caring and professional as she presented a couple options to treat our dog. He had to be sedated and sutured, and even with recovery and everything, we were on the road home two hours later. Each person we dealt with was kind and caring. They provided a very fair and reasonable estimate, and the total bill was on the low end of the estimate. Didn't realize they were still curbside only. We had to bring our little Malshi in because she swallowed a peach pit. We were there for about 4 and 1/2 hours as there were other more serious pet emergencies. Thankfully they were finally able to induce vomiting to extract the peach pit. The vet on duty said the dog would have never been able to pass the pit. We thankfully avoided a very serious and expensive surgery. Just so you all are aware, all stone fruit pits contain cyanide which can kill a dog or child. So if it ever happens to you seek emergency care immediately! Our 12 year old Golden Boy took a turn for the worse, and since it was over Memorial Day weekend, we decided to take him to Pet's ER to have him euthanized. We were greeted at the door by a very compassionate worker who led us to a nice room with a couch and chair. After placing a catheter on our dog, they brought him in and told us to take as much time as needed. Once we were ready, the dr. came in and explained exactly what she was going to do. We were permitted to stay as long as we wanted afterwards with our sweet boy. They have a very nice basket in the room filled with "dog comfort treats" like cheese, peanut butter, water, and beef sticks. It was nice to be able to give our boy a special treat before we said goodbye. We were very happy with the compassion and care given by everyone we encountered there, and we appreciated their professionalism while dealing with our sad situation. read more

Have heard a number of horror stories about Pets ER. Unfortunately had no other options on Christmas Eve night to take our 12 year old hound mix who was suffering from pancreatic cancer. Although the final outcome was to put her down, the doctors spent an incredible amount of time on the exam, explaining then bloodwork and working out option. I received a call from the Dr every 4 hours that she was hospitalized to discuss her status and next steps. The techs that do the intake could use some Customer service skills, but once you get in to see the doctor the care is excellent. I definitely recommend. read more

Literally made an account just to rate this. Not only is the wait time abysmal, but they did not care when I called about my animal who was attacking family out of the blue. They said they don't do euthanasia on behavioral problems. I get most people have a specific reason for their animals lashing out, but she has been doing this for a month and had attacked my elderly grandmother. They basically said "sucks to suck" and went on their way. It's not like I'm excited to put my animal down or looking forward to it, I'm devastated. They genuinely just refused to help in any capacity. The content for my animals behavior is beyond me. She has been getting worse and worse behaviorally recently and my normal vet hasn't been taking appointments. There needs to be better help here. Even some advice on what to do, if there were other options, anything would've been helpful. But no. Acted like I was trying to just get rid of my animal like a bag of trash. read more

On 9/7 around midnight we rushed our Great Dane for seizures. We called ahead and also from the parking lot. Two techs were sent out with a gurney...they almost dropped him until my husband assisted...the female tech seemed scared of him even though he was laying on his side in a comforter and not even trying to move. They told me I couldn't go in with him until we filled out paperwork and then they would come back. My last view of him was his sweet face looking for me to be behind him as they closed the locked door. We filled out the paperwork as fast as we could and then were escorted into a room. We had no idea what was going on .... this was my baby that I had never been without for almost 10 years since we got him at 8 weeks. We did everything together and now we were apart at the most horrific time of his life. A vet came in and explained that her recommendation was euthanasia. They brought him in on a gurney..his head was hanging down off the side...they didn't even bother to straighten him...my husband had to do that. While they had him away from us they decided, without permission, to sedate him. So he was not even aware....his last thoughts were of being ripped away from us with strangers to a sterile room and given an IV and sedated. I was so upset that we couldn't be with him!! It's a barbaric and inhumane way they treat pet owners!! I understood during COVID but not now. What vet doesn't allow you to go in with your pet!!!! We never really got to say goodbye to my beloved Velcro dog because he was already sedated before euthanasia. I will never forget the sweet and scared look on his face looking right at me as they told us we couldn't go in with him....it still haunts me to this day...we had to call Heavenly Gates at 1 a.m. to pick him up for cremation. They were wonderful letting us know they were on their way, when they got him, and when they returned. All of this was caused by a vet that we trusted ....we took Kingston in because he was pooping sometimes in his sleep. They told us he had arthritis in his back...the only thing wrong...he was a normal, healthy, playful dog. Two weeks after the shot he started having seizures, anorexia, constant pacing and panting and lost interest in everything. The vet said the panting and pacing was due to pain. I was never given the possible side effects of Librela before the shot but when I researched he displayed every single one. Took him back to the vet and they insisted it wasn't from Librela. Six week later he was gone...Please NEVER give your pets Librela or Solensia by Zoetis and if you want to have your pet taken from you and you have to wait in the stupid car NEVER go to Pet ER in Salisbury, MD!! read more

Yesterday my mom had to make a hard decision for our family cat and took her to Pet's ER. The staff there was clear, concise, respectful, and kind. I can't say how they actually treated my cat, but they sure don't respect that you are having a heart ache. The door is locked so you can't go in the building upon arrival thay come to the door take your pet and tell you that you can't be with her. You are given a clip board and a form to fill out and drop in the black box. Understanding ly it took 3 1/2 hours before we were told they were going to treat my cat, in the mean time we are sitting in our car waiting with no updates. My cat was not in critical condition, but even people that came in with bloody dogs and in critical condition could not go in with their pet. There is a waiting room, when I asked why we couldn't be in the waiting room I was told it is a mater of control and flow, in other words they don't want to deal with the humans. There aren't many options in this area on a holiday weekend. We chose to have them stablize our cat until we could take her to our vet for the surgery they said she needed. read more

The customer service is horrible and they don't mind wasting your time. First, we called right before coming over and they said nothing about a several hour wait to be seen. But once we were there we decided to wait. Only after they had admitted our pup were we told that their X-Ray machine was down. I get it, things break, so we found another vet and they wanted a referral to do the X-Ray. We were then told by Pet's ER that their machine was now fixed. Great, so we stuck with them. But then the waiting started. Eventually, I called and was told our pup would be ready in 20-30 min. An hour later I called again. They were rude but said it would be another 20-30 min. At this point we had to leave their parking lot to use the restroom (they don't allow people in the building). Big mistake. We returned in time and waited again. After an hour, we just wanted to get our dog back so I went to the door and called them. The lady said our dog had been ready but since we left she didn't bother to bring him out to us and couldn't be bothered to call us. It takes 30 seconds to call especially since they don't let anyone in the building. She also insisted that we had just gotten there when we had been waiting in the parking lot for the last 40 minutes. The vet seemed nice but the staff is beyond atrocious, something noted in the majority of Pet's ER's reviews. I'm sure they think their customer base is easily irritated and it doesn't cross their minds that their behavior is what triggers it all. TLDR; you leaving their parking lot during a 6 hr wait is grounds in their mind to not to let you know when your dog is ready to go. They also suck at estimating how long something will take and are quite rude when you try calling them. Ugh. read more

If you have an animal that will require longer term 24 hour care DO NOT go here. They are closed during the day and will tell you to bring your critically sick animal to your regular vet regardless of whether your vet can accomodate your pet. And if your vet doesnt have after normal business hours facilities then you must transport your pet back to Pets ER at night. It is dangerous, stressful, and detrimental to the pets health to transport a pet that is extremely sick to another office that has NO idea you are coming and no accommodations to handle them. This is the most asinine and unethical way of managing long term emergencies I have ever seen in my lifetime. The initial discussion with the Doctor was good. Bloodwork was taken, IV fluids, X-rays were done. But her supporting staff including office manager was rude, condescending and it felt like I was inconveniencing the staff by calling and asking for an update. You pay a lot of money here to be treated poorly as a pet owner from the supporting staff. They treat you like part of the daily grind from the ivory tower and its obvious when you literally hear the annoyance in their voice and the eye roll, when you ask questions, or request to please speak to the actual doctor. My impression was that by end of weekend they were just running the clock out until I picked him up in the morning. The office manager made it quite clear that I could go somewhere else if I didn't like how I was being treated after my husband unleashed on the staff after days of being ignored. We were told the vets were too busy with other patients to be able to call you and that isn't how we do it here. GO STRAIGHT TO ANNAPOLIS INSTEAD. CHESAPEAKE VETERINARY REFERALL CENTER. 410-224-0121 They are professional about communication and its done in a methodical predictable manner. They have all the specialty doctors in the building to do whatever necessary to address your pets needs. I still dont know if my animal is going to make it. The hours of driving him all around after leaving Pets ER caused him a setback by the time he was received in Annapolis however, they were quick to react, and has a brand new game plan in place to save him. I have received 3 phone calls from the doctor in less than 24 hours. Thats all I had ever asked Pets ER to do. Please have the doctor call me, and that wasnt an option. I wont ever go here again. I'm not one for public bashing however this situation doesn't work for anything except short term MINOR emergencies and people really need to know that. read more

I have been here for two hours and Sophie is going to be okay she has a UTI. Because of corona I've had to sit in parking lot with mask and can't be in Pets ER with Sophie, thankful to Dr for calling me, and putting her on gabapentine and antibiotic. I wish corona would just go away ! My girl is going to be okay. My only contention would be more communication with the receptionist in the clinic (Angel) with giving me an update on what's going on with Sophie, while we sat in limbo in the car for two hours not knowing what was going on, and we had to take the initiative to call the ER and I was met with not a compassionate tone. I'm giving 1 star because it won't allow me to post without a star...I would give zero if I could.. Just moved to the area and my dog was not feeling well. He was having issues breathing, bloody vomit and diarrhea. Pulled in the parking lot around 10:30pm and was told the wait was 4-6 hours. We couldn't wait in the parking lot because we had kids at home. Called back around 2am to let them know he was getting worse and to check the status and to and was told the wait is still 4-6 hours and they were now at max capacity and couldn't see any more patients. It's now 5am and my dog is practically passing away in my husbands arms. I called again and told them he was literally dying and their response was to drive him Dover, DE which is an hour away. We only made it 15 min into the drive before he passed in my husbands arms. Everything that I told them was wrong with my dog, they have a whole article on THEIR website saying it could potentially be life threatening! And you're telling me you can't see my dog?!?! They need more professional people who CARE about helping the animals. Maybe another vet on staff as well, because a 4-6 hour wait is RIDICULOUS. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND!!! read more

She was super nice. 10 mins later took my dog for exam and radiographs. 30 mins later Dr Kroken called and she was absolutely amazing. Took longer for notes/checkout/filling medications than anything. Time is always an issue in vet med but the nurse and vet we had made us forget all about it. We took our Cat to Pet ER because she was constipated. We waited 3 and a half hours sitting in the parking lot. When they called us we were taken to a room where a Vet showed us an X- Ray, did not explain or point out one thing on the X-ray when we ask what the X-ray showed, just said she is Constipated. Was told that she would have to spend the night or possibly 2 nights. Said they were going to give her fluids an enema and a stool softener over night to help her pass the stool. Called us the next morning and told us to come get her because she Miss Kitty would not let them do anything to her. They said, they blew out one of her veins in her leg trying to get an IV in her to hydrate her, so they didn't hydrate her, but they did give her an Enema, said they were going to refund us the $1,150.00 dollars we paid for staying overnight. When we got there they explained how to give her Miralax in her food and gave us 4ml of Lactulose to give her 2, 2ml doses every 12 hours by a syringe in her mouth and said she will be fine. They never gave us that option when we came in and talked with them about her condition! When we asked about our refund, they said we are refunding you $44.50. These people are deceptive, not nice at all. I would Highly suggest finding some other places to take your Pet. I am considering taking them to court to get them to refund our money! $1,150.00 spent for them to give Miss Kitty an Enema! read more

Very frustrating... took my dog at 4 am...left with medicine and after paying over $700. Started my dog on her medicine and realized they never gave me enough for the 7 days. Never returned my calls....so now I had to ask my local vet for the medicine and pay for it again. Days have gone by at this point. I trusted pets er in helping my dog.....they let me down. Don't even seem bothered by it. Really ashame....plus the fact of the distance I had to drive to get there. read more

Yes, I was surprised that we could not go in at all with our dog and I am not sure of the reasoning, however that issue aside, our dog received good care and the vet explained everything fully. Most of the bad reviews are related to having to wait or there being no appointments available, but they can't magically make availability when there is none. My dog is there inpatient right now. They have been very kind and kept in close touch to provide updates. It is expensive but you have to expect due to type of facility. Also they don't allow owners in the building due to COVID restrictions so you have to wait in the car. Additionally waits can be long. At 2 AM on a Saturday morning my Dog declined very rapidly from Renal Failure at home and the decision was made to go to Pets ER for end of life. Upon arrival there were several cars in the parking lot and when approaching the front door, the sign read to call from the car and a sign that read, if you can't be nice, you will be asked to leave, not a very welcoming sign when everyone there is probably experiencing an emergency situation with their pet. We called and soon a receptionist came to our car with a clipboard to fill out information indicating this was an end-of-life visit. We placed the clipboard in a box at the front door as directed and continued to provide our dog comfort in our car which honestly was better than in a waiting room full of people. Within about 20 minutes the receptionist returned to the car to take our dog, telling us they were going to put in an IV and we would be called to come into the building in about 30 minutes. over 50 minutes went by, and my wife started to become very concerned and called the receptionist to pleaded with her to allow us to be with our dog. Knowing that if we were not nice, we would be asked to leave. Within about 10 minutes we were permitted to enter the building and escorted to a comfort room where our dog was wheeled in on a small gurney covered with a blanket and strapped down, I am sure for his safety. The Tech said "he has been looking for you" which was very sad since we were not with him for now over an hour and he did lift his head for a second and saw us. When the blanket was removed, we were startled by all 4 of his legs were bandaged because they were not able to find a vein in his leg due to dehydration. We were permitted to hold him in our laps on a small couch in the room which was awesome and we comforted him and I am sure he knew we were there which was very comforting to him and us. Another Tech came into the room with a sedative to inject into his muscle to relax him. He was breathing heavily but he we continued to comfort him. The Tech explained to us that the only option was to inject into his jugular vein in his neck and that she would return in about 10 minutes. After about 20 minutes she came back, and my wife asked if he could get more sedative because of his heavy breathing thinking he may have been in pain. The Tech left and returned with a syringe and before she could inject, our sweet 14-year-old dog took his last breath in our arms. My only negative feedback is that their end-of-life process should be reconsidered. Owners should be able spend as much time as possible with their scared, hurting and confused pet. Communication should be improved and remove that sign on the door regarding "be nice or you will be asked to leave". That simply does not invite a felling of love and concern for pet owners who a worried and concerned. read more

Good luck going to the place. You will wait for hours and unnecessary tests are performed to diagnose your animal. We brought our dog here for extensive blood in her urine - which is not considered an emergency by this clinic - really! That took 4 hours and a sonogram, blood work, urine work up and more. We left 7 hundred dollars later with an antibiotic for a UTI. One year later the same thing but even worse! Better off waiting for your own vet Monday morning if you have a weekend emergency. Be wary of any place that has a sign in the window to be nice and kind or leave. read more

I am really disappointed. I brought my cat in on Saturday afternoon, He was not using the litter box as he usually does, after running their tests, they said he wasn't blocked but had crystals in his bladder etc. The gave me pain meds and a different diet to put him on. On Monday morning my cat was admitted in a different hospital for being critically blocked. How could this happen after taking my baby in to an ER.. Why didn't they see this and help him. Yet i was charged $700. To be honest they deserve zero starts because i almost lost my baby. :( read more

My husband and I had to take our dog Baxter there 2 weeks ago due to his heart condition, they were very helpful in the treatment they gave him that night (which helped him a lot and help him feel better) They were very kind and caring to him while he was there, however knowing his condition could get worse we found ourselves back in there last night with Baxter who was having an extremely difficult time breathing, didn't think we'd be back so soon but there we were, they were honest in telling us that even though they could do another x-ray and tried the oxygen our Baxter was just too sick and no matter what they might have tried we would probably end up there in another few days and we didn't want that for him so we made the difficult decision to let him go. They gave us as much time with him as we needed and when the time was right we had the vet come in with us, she explained everything that she was doing as she helped him cross over the rainbow bridge. When our Baxter took is last breath and she told us his heart had stopped they gave us again as much time as we needed to say our final goodbyes. We had a scare last evening with our Sharpei pup, after calling around locally there was no one available to see us or to talk so I searched and found Pets Er. Although we had to call upon arrival and wait in our vehicle overall We would use them again. The staff was friendly and so was the vet they called us twice to keep us informed about our baby and after about three hours we were on our way with our baby girl!
