I used this company a year ago. These people are really nice and their trucks are clean. The driver my kitties had was nice and professional. I saw no garbage strewn around the driver's area (as with the other company I once used). The entire van was well organized and clean. Just make sure when you schedule that you know how many days it will take to get your pet. My 2 cats had a long 10 day journey from upstate NY to Seattle. By the time they got to Seattle they had become aggressive. Sitting in a cage for that long apparently is not fun! It might be worth it to pay a bit more for a more direct route. Update- STAY AWAY! The owner keeps commenting/editing their comments in regards to my post. You would think someone running a company that is transporting the animals you LOVE across the country would have bigger concerns than continuing to alter her response on yelp all day, right? Her responses to this review went from bitter, to angry, to condescending, to flat out lying. Wow, haha how low people will go. Are these the people you want dealing with your pets? This is my experience with the company and based on that I would NEVER recommend them. I would suggest looking elsewhere when you are trying to move your pet to a new state, or just do it yourself. In my case it would have been better and I never would have had to deal with any of the previous owners or the new ones. My dog almost died with Pets on Board. the previous owner was a crook, she kept promising me a refund over and over again but not after having to fight her for it. She sold the company shortly after my failed transport and guess what?? Never got a dime from her! During our conversation on the phone the new owner told me they still use the previous owner for help with the company. There's a red flag for you!! The old owner was a crook when I dealt with her, so you should probably stay away from anyone getting advice from a person like that! I had paid them 1,157 dollars to move my dog from NH to CA. 2 days into the trip my dog ended up having problems breathing and was left at a vet in South Carolina. Basically my dog was getting so worked up and stressed out his throat was closing. I was called by the owner at the time Patty, who immediately blamed me for this situation. If the 17 hour drive wasn't already stressful enough, this woman was the icing on the cake. After listening to her rant I told her I wanted a refund for the failed transport. Eventually she agreed. Months went by emails and returned calls eventually stopped from this company. Until recently when I emailed them last month. I had told them I had never received my refund, and I was unhappy and felt betrayed by trusting them. Shortly after I posted a review on here, the new business owners started to call me. They told me that if I removed my review from yelp they would help me get my refund, which they agreed that I deserved. So I did, then their solution was to have me talk to the previous owner. They ignored all responsibility their company had even though they had records of my failed transport, and acknowledged I deserve a refund. Today they told me my complaint was invalid. Invalid? My dog was dropped off 17 hours away from me because he was having problems breathing. So my dogs life risking transport to them was invalid and my loss of money was invalid?? They couldn't care less about my issues with their company. They do a lot of talking, and they will give you a good run around, but new owners seem the same as the old. I contacted Brian on a Wednesday afternoon and explained that I had a quick turnaround situation. He worked quickly and managed to pull off a pick up for the following day. The driver went out of his way to contact me and give me updates on my dog. He also brought my dog to me in 3 days. Which is pretty good considering the Air Force allotted me 7 travel days to get here from my previous location. These guys are awesome and professional. My dog is in great condition and I'm happy to have my family reunited. Update: It's been over a week since my dog has been home and he's still in great shape! Shockingly expensive. Impossible to contact. They never answer their phone. Brian is disorganized. I called a dozen times and emailed. No one replied to my email. This company is in no way professional. The Angie's listing says this company is based in Newport, WA. The Yelp says it's in Oldtown, Id and the website says its in Elkins, WV. This company is just shady. One star is one too many. read more

Before I get into my review, I would like to say that Snooky's mother didn't happen to mention that POB transported 3 other dogs for her, and all of them arrived safe and sound. POB has been transporting my dog between Tucson, AZ and Cape Cod, MA for 3+ years. Boomer will soon take his 7th trip with them. I had utmost confidence in them when Patty owned the business and now with the new owners. There have been several different drivers, all of whom have been professional and caring. I never understood that I was going to hear from them everyday, but rather that I should call to check in if I wanted to. If the driver was not available to take my call, I always received a return call promptly. One driver did send me daily pictures via email. Boomer was always in great shape when he arrived at his destination and I was grateful to the drivers for taking such good care of him. I am a nervous dog mother and my guy means everything to me, so it takes a lot to make me comfortable, but POB has always allayed my fears and delivered a happy, healthy Boomer to me. I would also like to add that I used another service once- and only once, because I was very dissatisfied with their service. read more

This is a response to Pets-on-Board Transportation. This is an inaccurate summary of my experience. Snooky was NEVER diagnosed with diabetes insipidous. I would never have allowed her to be transported if I had known this. My Veterinarian never diagnosed this. My vet. gave written permission for my 3 dogs to be transported citing no medical problems. I spoke with the owners and drivers every day. They assured me that all was well with all my dogs. No one ever told me there was a problem until I had to meet them at the emergency Vets office in the middle of the night. By then sweet Snooky was unresponsive and died shortly thereafter. My lawyer is writing a letter to the company. My Vet. is also involved with this complaint . I am trying to come to terms with this tragedy. There should be oversight from an independent agency for these companies. I hope to start this action so it never happens again. read more

Pets on Board was really incredible with my two dogs Tilo and Drala whom they transported from NC to NM in May 2013. My dogs have spent a lot of time in vehicles but I was worried about how they would make it on such a long sojourn. I was called and the driver checked in with me every couple of days. He was able to accommodate my somewhat fussy pets, especially as they both view cats as prey and there were cats in the transport. They got to me happy, healthy, and fully in love with the driver. I plan to use them again as I move back home to NYC. They are also really well-priced compared to other services, including flying pets. read more

I don't quite know how to begin and relive this but 2 weeks ago the dog I took care of- Snooky- left Del Mar, California on a "Pets on Board" van and died enroute at the end of the trip to her new home in Cape Cod . I was Snookys' dog walker and sitter and helped their owner with her 3 dogs while she packed and sold her house and made relocation plans. Snooky died of dehydration and was carried off the "Pets on Board" truck and delivered to her owners arms where she died at a vets office. From the beginning "Pets on Board" has been a nighmare experience and I cannot keep thinking about what the 3 dogs endured (and the many other dogs they pick up all over the US) - especially Snookys ' last terrifying days of her life in a cage. The company caused the owner tons of stress when they did not pick up her dogs on the Wednesday before she left on a flight on that Friday. Their truck broke down which seems to be a common excuse of theirs. So the owner had to hire me to stay in her empty house on a blowup mattress and stay with the dogs until the van finally picked them up on that Sunday. I had a bad feeling and when I got the call the driver had arrived I was filled with dread. I was at dog beach with Snooky and the other 2 dogs for the last time and had to go back to their house and I barely had time to feed them-give them water- before the impatient driver manhandled the terrified dogs onto the truck- I could not even give them a toy or comfort them the driver was in such a hurry. I was sobbing when they drove off down the street- wishing now I had run after them and saved them from the awful journey that awaited them. "Pets on Board" is basically a trucking company transporting beloved pets as cargo. They claim the drivers are all available if you call to check up on your pet- but you can barely hear or understand them if you do call- and they definitely do not call you. They hire drivers that look and act like ex-truckers and they do not call or send text photos of your pets or an accounting of their daily (or every 3 days?) journey -nothing to give you peace of mind. The first driver had 7 dogs (including Snooky ) and I know he picked up more and transferred them to a second bigger truck in Arizona where they continued driving back East. There is no way having that many dogs on board for 7 days travelling 500 miles a day can be a safe and healthy. Imagine the driver has to drive 500 miles and stop and supposedly walk 7+ dogs individually or in pairs -put them back in their cages- make sure all 7+ dogs have fresh water- and feed them all 2x a day and drive the distance the company claims. It is horribly depressing that the driver sleeps in the truck at night with the dogs in Walmart parking lots and at truck stops. The owner had to pay "up front" and she said she paid close to 4,000.00 for her 3 dogs to be transported across the U.S. This experience will haunt me for the rest of my life since I put Snooky on that truck and that is the last time I saw her. I am trying to remember the fun times I had with her and keep her in my heart forever. Note: To prevent suspected dehydration in dogs without a vet / use a turkey baster and inject electrolyte water or gatorade water 4+ times per day / or cook a meat patty and put at the bottom of a medium bowl of water. read more

I used Pets on Board for my recent move from VA to NV. They transported my 2 shih tzus who my family considered too spoiled and pampered. They are divas. In some instances, one or both suffers from stress colitis on unfamiliar surroundings. I talked to both Brian and Sheela and they went through the services with patience and answered all my questions. After almost a 30-minute call, I decided to use them utilizing the private transport option so my pick up date and delivery date are guaranteed and there will be less stress on the pups. I can say the dogs enjoyed their cross country trip! I don't think they ever missed me at all. Sheela and her assistant Amber did the transport and my pups fell in love with them. They sent pictures throughout the trip and called me to let me know how they spent the day and an update on when they will arrive. I got 2 happy pups on arrival. One thing I would advise pet parents is always ASK questions. Sheela and Brian never made me feel rushed on our calls and they explained everything well. As a pet parent you are ultimately responsible for your pets' care. I was upfront with them and they were with me. They were open in discussing the pros and cons of group transport and private transport. They never made me lean towards a service. At the end of the day, my fur babies comfort is more important to me than mine (I have to cut down on some move expenses to afford the private; so I ended up on Southwest - lol). If your pet kids have even a slight hint of medical issue, no matter how trivial, spring for a private transport. Be honest. I discussed this move also with my vet and she knows my fur kids well and also recommended private transport. Just asking your vet "is my pet good for transport?" is not good enough. I discussed with mine all the options. An AWESOME vet will help in the decision making, not just say "they are good for transport" and hand you the paperwork. In the end, my pets had a tremendous time during the travel and all the pictures showed a hint of a smile. They never had an episode of stress colitis at all and when they arrived, they just jumped back into our normal routine (which would not happen if they had a bad time). And they also smell good (Amber said they puppy wipe them every night before bed)! I would HIGHLY recommend Pets on Board to everyone. It was a great experience for the pups and me. I will not hesitate to use them again in the future. read more

We have used Pets On Board for several of our moves. We travel often between Maryland and San Francisco throughout the year. When they were unable to accommodate one of our moves due to timing they referred us to another transporting company and took the time to conference with me the initial phone call and to introduce us one to another. We have only personally met the drivers Dave and Jim but have spoken often with Brian and other office staffing and would not hesitate to refer them to anyone for all their pet moving needs.
