This place is horrible!! We are in a pandemic and we all should be doing our part, by wearing a mask!!! I guess the people who work in this store are the exception. How in this day and age, does a store get away with selling dozens of young puppies of many different breeds??? These puppies were in their own poop, drinking like rodents, caged with at least 2 other puppies, and a few were almost $8,000!!! My daughters and I watched as one of the employees "cleaned" the cages. She was so rough, grabbing them by the skin of their backs, not their necks, and tossing them out of her way. She did this every time. Please do not purchase puppies or anything from this store. Oh yes, they also rent Uhauls. Puppies & Uhauls- uhm... It's is obvious they work with puppy mills!! i read all the reviews about this store online before deciding to stop in. I also researched and contacted breeders about the specific puppy we were looking to buy. There are a lot of dishonest people out there trying to sell dogs. But, there are also a lot of activists online trying to discourage and shame you not to get a puppy from a breeder or a pet store. My advice is to do your homework, research the specific breed your looking for, and what problems are specific to that breed. Take your time, whether buying from a breeder or a store. Also buying and owning a dog is expensive, especially toy breeds. Definitely interact with the puppy for a while before you make a decision to buy. With all that being said, my experience with Pets Plus in Stafford Va. was very positive. The owner, Bonnie answered all my questions and concerns and let my wife and I spend hours with the puppy in the play room. The staff was also very helpful in choosing the right food and supplies for her. Our biggest concern of course was the health of the dog. That should be your biggest concern too. We were able to take her to our own veterinarian, who gave her a clean bill of health. if you do have a problem with the health of the dog after buying from Pets Plus, Miss Bonnie assured us that she would work with us to rectify any problems. Our little one is now 12 weeks old and we still keep in touch with Miss Bonnie. Give Pets Plus a try. read more

I recently adopted my puppy Wolfie there. (He was a year old.) I found the staff friendly, the store clean, the pets healthy and well-cared for. The staff is dedicated to making sure these pets end up with good homes and that you are a good fit with the pet you are interested in. Every staff member knew the story of my puppy and personally cared about him. They told me his complete history when I adopted him. Their follow up is excellent and they make sure to have an excellent adoption package. (My puppy had all shots and microchip as well as a pending AKC membership.) The adoption fee is more than reasonable considering all of the extra things that came with my puppy. He is a bundle of joy and very sociable and I love him. I'm thankful for this place because they put me together with my best friend Wolfie. No other pet store I've been in takes such a personal interest in caring for their pets or customers. I like this place and hope to one day become a millionaire so I can afford one of their puppies lol. They seem to be doing okay though because I always see tons of people coming in and out, checking out puppies. The animals seem to be well cared for and in decent health. I have no problem with the ID policy...I've seen the Dateline special episode on puppy store thefts-its real. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that their pet supplies are pretty much the same price as the major retailers. If you have a grand or more to drop on a puppy, this is a great place to start looking. read more

All I can say is-be careful. They do offer financing-at 140% interest. I have no issues with the business itself-other than the fact that puppies have gone up by about 200% due to COVID and the ridiculous interest rate on their loans. My advice is to get a loan by other means or that $3500 puppy will cost you upwards of $7,000. Hence the 3 star rating. read more

If I could I'd give it a zero. Everything is way overpriced. I bought a tarantula which would typically cost $25, for $80. This was a purchase I had been thinking about, but couldn't find a tarantula anywhere nearby. The woman getting the tarantula for me straight up grabbed the spider, and threw it in a flimsy cardstock box. I don't know how to say this politely, but this business is garbage, not recycling. This is my second puppy from Pet's plus (Male Rottie - purchased three years ago, and Female Husky - purchased last month). The staff was welcoming and helpful. Both pups were diagnosed by vet to have Giardia (an intestinal parasite infection). Pets Plus picked up the tab for the meds on both and after a couple of weeks they were cured. They are overpriced but convenient. Both dogs are doing well now and are great companions. My recommendation is do your homework on the breed and get them to a vet ASAP if purchased to discover any non-visible problems. Anytime you have multiple puppies from multiple breeders in a small pet store, the chances of the puppies health being impacted significantly increases. Good luck and happy hunting! read more

I've gone to this place MANY times. Its close to my home so it's pretty convenient. Ive also used a U-haul from them once. I go mainly for the grooming. I've taken my yorkies to 2 different groomers here in Stafford & honestly both places didn't give great cuts. So I tried this place. Its about 50$ a dog but they have this nice rewards program where I think it's if you spend 150$ You get 10$ coupon. The haircuts are always awesome which is what kept me coming back. But, the reason I'm gonna have to look for another groomer. A few months ago my dog got fleas for the 1st time from there. My house was infested. I tried everything from carpet cleaners, shampoos, topical treatments, flea collars. It took forever. I decided give them another chance. Unfortunately after coming home again my dog started itching like crazy. Top it off they cut her. Not just a nick but they seriously cut her on one of her nipples. It scared and everything. They never mentioned it so I was angry. I called upset & spoke to someone who was nice & said if she needs to go to the vet they'll pay. Luckily she healed but I can't go back there. 1st time shame on you. 2nd time shame on me. read more

This review is only for their GROOMING services. My boyfriend and I have used them for their grooming services for our long-haired and medium-haired cats. You drop the animals off between 9 and 10 am for grooming and they call you when they're done. Every time it takes them at least 4-5 hours before the cat is ready to be picked up. Other places I've been to get the cats done first so they don't have to stay there with all the barking dogs any longer than necessary (there were 15 or 18 dogs -- I forget how many they said -- and my one cat there yesterday). They get the job done, but they're by no means great. Our one medium-haired cat gets badly matted and, I'll admit we wait too long between grooming sessions, but there are quite a few nicks on him from where they CUT his skin shaving off the mattes. And, come to think of it, when my veterinarian friend has helped us shave off mattes, she hasn't nicked him once... I had my medium-haired cat groomed recently and I explained to them what I wanted (shaved back, round off the cheeks a bit, trim the tail a little shorter, etc) and they said "well, what we do is...," meaning they weren't going to do as I asked, they were going to do their norm (which is what I received -- their norm). They also asked if I wanted his whiskers shaved off... WHAT?? They admitted it disorients the cats, but it's what some people ask for. So, they'll shave off a cat's whiskers, but won't tighten up the tail? I've actually decreased the rating of this review while writing it. And now after writing it, I think I've decided we'll be trying somewhere else next time. I've been to 3 other groomers up in Fairfax County (when I lived there) and they were all much better. DON'T BUY A DOG FROM THIS STORE!!! We have bought two puppies from this place and both dogs have had significant health issues. Our first dog that we bought from this store had to be treated for mange a few weeks after we bought him. After working with our vet for 2 months, we go the condition under control. After he passed away, we made the mistake of returning and buying another pup from them. This time, we looked at his papers in order to verify his pedigree prior to paying for him. Everything looked great, Champion Bloodlines on both sides of his parents, etc. So we decided with our hearts (not heads) and bought our second pup (same breed) from them. Surprise to me about week later the dog was lethargic and we had to put him on atibiotics. 6 months later out vet diagnosed him with K-9 Black Skin Disease (Alopecia X) and it has been a horror story of health issues for the past 3 years. You would think that an owner of a pet store selling this many pets to the public would get in with some reputable breeders whom breed their dogs from there betterment of the breed... not just to turn a profit. NOT THIS PLACE... I have now met several people that have bought dogs from this place and most have experienced the same issues as me. Do you self a favor and drive right by this store if you're looking from a new family member. They are not a responsible seller and are all about making money fast, not finding quality / health pets for families. read more

Bought a dog from here back in 2012. Sick from the first day. Had to keep him separate from my other dog for 3 weeks on vets orders and he almost died. Friend bought a mastiff years later...sick from the start. Not sure what the problem is, but e is given special meds daily now. All I'm seeing is horror stories of others who's pets were worse off than ours. Hopefully this puppy mill "distributor" closes soon. read more

Bought a dachshund puppy from here 3 years ago. Around the same time, bought two other dashchund puppies from a private breeder. My family has a total of three dogs now. However, the one we got from this store has anxiety/mental issues. He constantly causes himself severe distress over minor things like chasing a tennis ball (whining and frantic pacing). He intentionally wedges himself under furniture until he gets stuck... He is a nuisance to neighbors and generally slower to learn than the other two dogs we have. Very skeptical about the overall genuineness and credibility of this store after my experience and reading the rest of the reviews here. Flash forward 2 years later: He has SEVERE back issues. One of his disks has slipped and it hasn't healed all the way. Safe to say he's in a lot of pain. He walks abnormally now and we had to pay incredibly high vet bills. PLEASE DO NOT go to this place! They sold me a puppy who had Parvo and died a couple days later. The puppy also gave my friends dog kennel cough. I can honestly say that these people do not give a damn about the dogs there. I paid 2 grand for the puppy because I fell in love with him and truly wanted him in my home. You would think that these expensive dogs would be taken care of but I'm 99% sure they're all sick. When I went back to the store to confront them about it I saw a puppy that had been in the same cage as my puppy and he was showing the same symptoms as my puppy. I immediately told them that they needed to check the dogs and they pretty much ignored me. I was left heartbroken with all the puppy things I had bought for the dog. I know that a lot of people have bad thoughts about this place. But we purchased our puppy from here in June and he has been a delight! There have been no major health issues and no behavioral problems. His purchased included a visit to a vet and any medications he would have to have or shots he needed to get. He had papers and a legit blood line. The employees are busy (it is both a pet shop and a UHaul business) but they are polite. A lot of people talk about rumors of parvo, but I have yet to hear of anyone saying that they themselves have had their dog diagnosed with parvo (it has always been "I heard of someone" or "a friend of a friend.)" read more

I DESPISE THIS PLACE! I've been in twice because my husband insisted on looking at fish. It is dirty, unsanitary and smells gross. Customer service is non-existent. (In my opinion) Animals are EXTREMELY OVERPRICED. $200 for a kitten?? haha What a joke! This is concerning their grooming service. I have a shiatsu that I have taken there for grooming three times and they do a decent job. However, their customer service is severely lacking. Each time I have been there they are unkind, inconsiderate of other peoples time, and they have an attitude of pay me money and get out. Not exactly sure what goes on behind the pet staging door, but my dog is always scared when we drop her off and nervously shaking when we pick her up. Also, for some reason it usually takes them 4-5 hours...why? Like I said, they do not possess customer service skills in their treatment or attitude with customers. For 9 years, we gave our business to this establishment. We never had one complaint. We trusted the staff with our fur babies. Last week, our miniature schnauzer came home after a grooming and would not eat, she was not playful anymore and she would yelp every time someone picked her up. When my sister picked her up, the groomer told her that she thinks she has an ear infection because she yelped every time they tried cleaning her ears out. We discovered severe burn marks under her legs and on her tummy. Some were so severe that they are scabbed over. Her eyebrows which is very important in the look of a schnauzer were uneven and her left one was choppy and completely gone. They even cut her long eyelashes off. One of her ears had a small cut on the thin skin area and one of the pads on her front paw was raw. I called the owner to talk about our experience even telling her that we have always been satisfied in the past but were wondering if maybe she had a new groomer that may not have been familiar with Our dog or her preferred cut. We did not ask for money back or say we would take our business elsewhere. We just simply needed to know how and why our fur baby looked like this and I wanted to know what she endured while there. She came back a different dog. However, instead of a professional and courteous response, I received a very cold and defensive response on the phone. I was questioned as to where I took her to the vet because I informed her that our vet said she did not have an ear infection. The owner said she has the same groomer and nobody new yet we have seen different groomers often and never questioned them. We trusted them because we trusted the owner's judgement. The owner demanded I bring her to the shop because she would like to see these cuts and burn marks. She appeared to be calling me a liar. Her tone was rude and she kept interrupting me. Why after 9 years would I want to lie about service we received? We have spent thousands at Pets Plus and referred so many friends to their services. I only wanted answers and all I got were excuses. We are very sad that we now have to find a new groomer and begin to try and heal from this negative experience and trust another stranger with our pet. I went into this pet store to look at all the cute puppies that they had for sell. I have always adopted - all my animals are rescue - except for the puppy my husband and I bought from here. My husband had wanted a French Bulldog for some time and I am an avid lover of hounds - particularly beagles. A friend of mine and I walked into the store and I fell in love with a Frengle (French Bulldog/Beagle mix) male puppy. It didn't take long for me to return home and ask my husband to go back with me to look at him. The pet store requires a deposit to put the pup you are interested in on hold. We called and explained we would be there in 45 minutes and they were very understanding and held our puppy for a hour - no charge. My husband fell in love instantly too. I asked one of the workers about puppy mill breeding and if our dog was from one. She informed us that they only use breeders that breed a pair of dogs every few years. I thought that was reasonable. The reason I am giving the store 4 stars is because of the breeder situation. When I received our dog's pedigree I decided to look up the breeder. Turns out this breeder does indeed run a puppy mill and it doesn't take more than an internet search to find that and dig further into researching them. However, you need to be realistic when purchasing a store puppy. I should have known the minute I asked the question that he was from a puppy mill. So now, here are the few important things to consider: 1. Expect a sick puppy. Any animals - especially puppies - even from a rescue or SPCA will more than likely have a cold. Its easy to contract. Our puppy did. The nice thing however was that his first visit medications are covered by the store. This was appreciated. 2. Expect a store bought puppy to be a little more scared of things in their environment you wouldn't normally expect them to be afraid of. Our (now dog) puppy was afraid of trash cans and fire hydrants on walks. No big deal it just takes time. 3. Pet store pups can be hyper. This has a lot to do with their weening period - keep in mind all dogs are different too - but long story short their development is different and may need some extra patience. We do LOVE our dog - absolutely adore him. He's been a handful but is the sweetest, funniest, spunkiest little dog I've ever been around. I wouldn't trade him for the world. read more

Best specialty pet store around. High quality dog food - even kinds for allergies. They can order just about any kind you need. Treats gallore. Staff is knowledgable and helpful. Always willing to go the extra mile. They have an awesome fish selection & an abundance of accessories. I haven't used them for boarding but I see people all the time picking up and dropping off their pets. They have tons of pets for purchase too - cutest little things. Coming from a veterinary technicians point of view: I've been in this store one time a long time ago. There were dead fish floating in the aquariums and too many puppies crammed in small spaces walking on and sitting in their own feces. It smelled terrible near the kennel area. I saw kittens with runny noses and eyes and there were clearly health issues with these animals. It was just sad and gross. I never went back. Then I started working as a vet tech in the area and that's when I started hearing and seeing the real horror stories. Never did I once have an owner bring in a new pet that was mysteriously ill and dying from PetSmart, or the Shelter, or a Rescue. However, that was the story that I heard over and over from owners that had gotten their pets from Pets Plus. So many animals died or had to be put down from that establishment that we dreaded every new patient appointment that we had where Pets Plus was listed as the place of origin for this animal. Oftentimes it meant that we were about to see a really sick puppy or kitten and have to impart devastating news to the owner or send them home with a lot of meds and a big bill from all of the diagnostics that were needed. Pets Plus is the dirty word at vet clinics in this area. It's the name that we fear and hate. I just don't understand how they're still able to be in business after all of the lawsuits and investigations. Honestly, I'm convinced it's their poor customer service and inhumane practices that have made them reach out and sign on with U-Haul to bring in extra money as a U-Haul dealer. But this place needs to close down and never have anything to do with animals again. Please do not support this business. Don't buy the animals, or the pet supplies, or the grooming services, and don't even rent the U-Hauls. Cut off all of their cash flow and make them have no choice but to stop this 'little shop of horrors'. Every dollar you give them goes towards fueling all of the pain and suffering of the animals and families that you see on these reviews. And I guarantee you that there's more that we don't see. There more families out there that had to put down a pet from this place and there's more sick and dying animals stashed in that place. And don't get me started on all of the animals that are sick and dying at the puppy mills that fuel this place. They don't even try and hide the fact that they are supplied by puppy mills. I just moved to the area from New Jersey and wanted to drop my uHaul truck at a closer location other than Washington, DC which was a distance from where I currently am. David was the gentleman that took care of both my transactions. Very friendly guy and seemed to be extremely knowledgable in every thing he was doing whether it was handling my UHaul truck or handling guest with their pet needs. Greeted me with a smile both times I entered the store and seemed so calm and collected when I know he was busy. Very great at multitasking. Sparked conversation as if we've known eachother for years and made me feel very comfortable. He is a wonder asset to this company and you guys are very lucky to have him working there. My family and I always stop by to see the puppies but today ensured we will not only stop by but never support this local business. While looking at puppies, I went to take a photo of a potential pet and the woman with straight hair and glasses working behind the dogs screamed at me that I couldn't take a photo and then continued to yell at her coworkers that the customers were idiots. She continued to scream despite the fact that the whole store could hear her behind the cages. I was not the only one who was yelled at and called names by this woman but the other customers also said they will NOT come back or purchase a dog. You would think a local business would be politer to their customers especially since they lost a family of five and another family's business. Pretty sad I can no longer support. read more

My boyfriend and I had been wanting to add a FurBaby to our family for awhile and when we saw our little Cleopatra (Cleo) at Pets Plus Inc we knew she was the one for us. She's a Pomapoo/Pooranian and she's our little, fluffy ball of happiness. Pets Plus Inc was able to help us out with financing her and their employee Devan was great at her job and assisted us through the entire process. It was a Saturday and it was a very busy day at the store, but Devan did a wonderful job at maintaining the rest of the store while making sure we were on our way home soon with our little girl. We've now had her for a week and just adore her. Will definitely be recommending this place to anyone who is looking at add to their family! read more

We found our first family boston terrier here 15 years ago. He was the best family dog you could ask for. Max died last year and we just got another pup here ( a bug- part boston part pug ) who is so adorable. She is sweet and smart and already learning to do her business outside! Yes! Love the owner who is so helpful. The gals who work here love what they do and the pets. This place is what the end of the puppy mill chain looks like... These "designer dog" being sold for hundreds and hundreds of dollars are unhealthy and poorly taken care of from birth until the are sold. There's a reason you can't take pictures or video in this place. This place needs to be shut down! So many dogs are being hurt.
